Career / Re: What Are Your Plans For Retirement? by kok(m): 2:35pm On Nov 05, 2009
Its about you deciding what you would want your future to be like and planning ahead now, start immediately if possible. It sum up to you having a source that would earn you income on regular bases. Heard the phrase "making your money work for you"? yea, thats the starting point. If you are able to understand what that phrase mean then you would think up something.

Its about investing your money on something that would earn you regular income while you are still working and earning salary. But it has to be something you know much about so you dont things complicated for yourself, better still you can have someone trustworthy to manage it for you.

With this, you have your monthly revenue going on the rise and you can afford to save much for the future.
Business / Re: CBN To Begin Investigating Any Bank Transactions From 250k?? by kok(m): 9:41am On Nov 05, 2009
mikeansy:

Fhemmy there is something more fundamental than the definition of suspicious. Its lack of identity system.
We live in a country where Aliko Dangote can decide to open a company and bank account using the names Ali Dangote. If the company goes bust Ali Dangote becomes a fictitious character that never existed anywhere and nobody can do much about it.

My problem with Sanusi is that he likes to talk tough without recognising the problems we have and how to deal with them. If Igwe Michael Obi decides to open an account as Mr Mike Obi, how will the computer be able to flag him as a royal father and as such a politically exposed person if Mr Mike Obi's account is used to transfer 250k?

What we need is for Sanusi to shut up, go behind the scene and liaise with the Internal Affairs Minister to create  a National Identity System that can withstand the challanges of the 21st century. So that if any individual approaches a Bank or CAC to open an account or company, they can only do so with idetifiable names they are known with in every other organisation and spheres of life.

This same issue is responsible for why James Ibori could successfully tell a court of law that he is not the James Obori that was once convicted. These are real problems that require cool and wise heads to set in motion strategies that can help us solve these problems not tough talk aimed aat self agrandisement.

Well said!

@texazzpete

I think you should read the quote above, that way you would understand why such system will not work in Nigeria.

IE6 is a hog. It uses 3 times the RAM of Chrome, and it sucks at rendering pages.

Here, I got an option. it is possible to block out users from your site using this simple PHP code:

<?php

// IE6 string from user_agent
$ie6 = "MSIE 6.0";

// detect browser
$browser = $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'];

// yank the version from the string
$browser = substr("$browser", 25, cool;

// if IE6 set the $alert
if($browser == $ie6){

$error = '
Hello!
<br>
oops!! sorry, this Site is not compatable with Internet Explorer 6.
<br>
Try upgrading or Using Firefox or Google Chrome!
<br> Sorry for the inconvenience!';

print "$error";

exit();
}

Politics / How Pdp Moved Akpabio, Attah Into Detente by kok(m): 6:06pm On Oct 23, 2009
DESPITE the intervention of the special committee set up by the national office of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the two-year face-offs within the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the party the dust is yet to settle. Three days after a supposed peace meeting, both Governor Godswill Obot Akpabio and his predecessor Obong Victor Bassey Attah were still holding separate meetings, according to some sources, with each insisting on earlier stand. The outcome of the meetings is not yet known.

Attah, an architect and respected immediate past two term governor of the state had made no secret of his preference for his son in-law, Dr Udoma Bob Ekarika as his successor. In a hotly contested primary in 2006, Akpabio had however overcome Ekarika and won the governorship election, evidently with little or no support from Attah. Since then, as they say, there has been no love lost between Attah and Akpabio, who incidentally, like Ekarika, was a commissioner under Attah. In 2007, the party in the state under the supervision of the national officers constituted a new executive led by Prince Uwem Ita Etuk. For two years, Attah and his supporters severally rejected Etuk as the chairman insisting that the executive committee should be dissolved or the position of chairman be allotted to him.

However Akpabio and his camp have stood their ground maintaining that the Etuk-led executive was legally put in place and there was no parallel congress when current executive was put in place. Thus, ensued a battle for the soul of the party in the state. Right now much of the fight is being linked with the 2011 governorship race. Incumbent governor Akpabio wants a second term in office. Attah and his group are hell-bent on recapturing power in the state come 2011. Perhaps, more than anything else, Akpabio is drawing his strength from his performance on ground doing several kilometer of roads across the state and a network of fly-over bridges in Uyo, completing the Airport project and Ibom Power plant which Attah started, introducing free and compulsory education in the state from primary to secondary school level, doing several school buildings and hospitals and others.

In addition he is banking on the goodwill of several pressure groups and organizations like the Akwa Ibom Peoples front (AKPF), Akwa Ibom Democratic Voice (ADV), Utunikang Ibibio, Godswill Solidarity Movement (GSM) 1 For 8 Initiative, Progressive Akwa Ibom Peoples Assembly (PAPA), Continuity Advancement Group (CAG), Friends of Godswill Akpabio in Nigeria (FGAN), Iman Ibom Support for Good Governance, Ibiono Ibom Grand Alliance, Nsit Ibom for Godswill and many others. Several ethnic groups in the state have endorsed Akpabio for 2011 and three weeks ago, the Asan Ibibio in a colourful ceremony in Uyo described as "the endorsement of endorsement" formerly gave him the nod for 2011.

Politics / Oni’s Witness Watches Own Attack On Journalists – The Nation by kok(m): 6:02pm On Oct 23, 2009
People at the Ekiti State Election Petitions Tribunal were yesterday treated to a huge dose of drama when a loyalist of Governor Segun Oni, Femi Olanrewaju, was confronted with the video evidence of his alleged attack on journalists at the Government House on the eve of the last governorship rerun poll.

Olanrewaju, popularly known as “Ijakoko”, denied ever entering the Ado-Ekiti Government House.

It was at the continuation of the hearing of the petition filed by the Action Congress (AC) governorship candidate, Kayode Fayemi, against Oni’s declaration as winner of the April 22 election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The rigorous drilling of the witness during his cross-examination by counsel to AC and Fayemi, Anthony Adeniyi, saw him (Olanrewaju) asking for water to drink to cool off.

The witness had severally been described as “Oni’s chief thug” by witnesses from Ifaki-Ekiti, his hometown who had earlier given evidence before the tribunal.

He was also accused of being the mastermind of the violence that rocked the community and other places where the rerun was held in Ido’Osi Local Government Area.

Politics / Pdp Defends Choice Of Soludo As Governorship Candidate by kok(m): 5:50pm On Oct 23, 2009
The Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) says its decision to pick Chukwuma Soludo, the immediate past governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria as its Anambra governorship candidate in 2010 remains ''sacrosanct.''

The National Financial Secretary of the Party, Tukur Mani stated this on Thursday in Ilorin while speaking with newsmen shortly after attending the University of Ilorin's 25th convocation lecture.

According to him, the criticisms that trailed the emergence of Mr. Soludo as the governorship candidate of the Party were normal in politics.

Foreign Affairs / Nigerian Gov’t Must Arrest Al Bashir If: by kok(m): 5:46pm On Oct 23, 2009
Amnesty International has called on the Nigerian government to effect the immediate arrest of Sudanese President Omar al Bashir during an official visit to Nigeria scheduled to begin on Thursday, 29 October.

Kolawole Olaniyan, Amnesty International’s Africa Legal Adviser described Mr. Bashir as an “international fugitive from justice, charged with responsibility for crimes against humanity and war crimes against Africans. It would be shameful of Nigeria to offer him safe haven.”

President Umaru Yar’Adua has apparently given assurances that President Omar al Bashir will not be arrested if he comes to Nigeria.

Amnesty International claims they are aware that Nigerian President Umaru Yar’Adua has issued an invitation to Sudanese President Omar al Bashir to visit Nigeria, even though President al Bashir is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The invitation is for President Omar al Bashir to attend an African Union Peace and Security Council meeting in Abuja, scheduled to begin on Thursday, 29 October.

Amnesty International learned about the still-secret invitation from several reliable sources.

Former South African President Thabo Mbeki is expected to present a report on the situation in Darfur at the meeting.

But Amnesty International insist “the Nigerian government has an unconditional legal obligation to arrest President Omar al Bashir and hand him over to the ICC should he enter Nigerian territory. Any failure to do this is a failure to fulfil obligations under international law and may amount to obstruction of justice.”

An arrest warrant for President Omar al Bashir was issued by the ICC on 4 March 2009.
