Workers at the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Lagos State, under the aegis of the Joint Forum of YABATECH Staff Unions Thursday declared an indefinite strike over what they described as illegal deductions in their salaries and non-payment of allowances.

The forum, which comprises the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), took the decision at a joint congress at the polytechnic’s sports centre, where more than 100 members took part.

This is even as the ASUP members at the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, Thursday disagreed on the implementation of CONTISS 15 salary scale, leading to chaos at the congress held on the campus.

Addressing the congress, the ASUP Chairman, Mr. Adeyemi Aromolaran said all the allowances accrued to the staff had been removed when they were paid July salary on Wednesday, August 3.

He recalled that management had called a meeting with the chairmen of the three unions about a month ago, to inform them of a directive from the Education Minister, Mallam Adamu Adamu, to stop paying allowances from the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), but that the Rector, Dr. Margaret Kudirat Ladipo could not provide proof when confronted.

According to information filtering in from Uganda, Nigerian Dance hall star Patoranking was yesterday held and detained by the immigration authorities at Entebbe Airport.

The Ugandan media is reporting that the “My Woman” singer chose to snub the check-in rules and also had no entry visa.

“I’m Patoranking for God’s sake,” the singer bragged.

“Patoranking thought he was too ‘big’ and would receive VVIP treatment upon his arrival,” sources near the singer revealed.

Authorities at the airport arrested and detained him for over five hours. However, he was later released and granted an entry visa.

Patoranking is in Uganda to market his new album titled “God Over Everything”, which features big names like Wizkid, Olamide and Elephant Man.

According to these screen-shots which have been trending on Kenyan social media, an unnamed man has exposed a Kenyan girl who was harassing him and desperately demanding for sex in exchange for financial favours.

The man, according to Kenyan media syndicating the news, boarded a plane in Doha, Qatar and had the misfortune of bumping into a wily, Kenyan seductress. She works for Qatar airways. It was not hard for her to get his information, including his phone number which was present in his travel documents that she was privy to. Immediately the plane landed, the girl, identified as Mercy, hatched a plan of milking the man dry – she was willing to give him an express trip to her cookie jar. According to the screen-shots, she had obviously made him the offer physically when they met along the journey, but when he wasn't interested Mercy took her method to Whatsapp not long after the man got to his destination... Members of CAC at Abule-Ijesha in Yaba local government, Lagos state yesterday Sunday July 24th, threw their pastor Micheal Oni out of the church during the service, over disagreements on the disbursement of church funds and his monthly salary.

According to a member of the church, the pastor who was recently transferred to their church from Ibadan, was demanding for a certain amount of salary which they refused to pay him. They accused him of insulting them and causing trouble in the church



"He has been giving the church problem, causing chaos in the church and fighting members, insulting and raising bad covenant between members"Badejo Adelu, a member of the church told TVC

According to the pastor, the church members refused to render accounts of the church to him

"I asked them that I want to see the account of the church which they failed to render. I told them they should not spend any money without approval by me, they refused".

According to a report on Fairfax Media/SMH, a Nigerian man who is facing execution in Indonesia within days tearfully told a court that police electrocuted his genitals to force him to confess to possessing heroin.

Michael Titus Igweh, a clothe importer is among several prisoners on death row whom lawyers and human rights groups are frantically lobbying to save from the firing squad amid claims they were tortured and their legal cases riddled with corruption, errors and miscarriages of justice.



"I was constantly beaten, and my genitals electrocuted until I was helpless," the clothes importer, who was sentenced to death in 2003 for possessing 5.8 kilograms of heroin, told the Tangerang District Court. "In fact, I was threatened to be shot."

The third wave of executions in Indonesia could be held within days. It is understood the Nigerian and Pakistani embassies have now been notified that their nationals are among those to be killed

Indonesian Attorney-General Muhammad Prasetyo reiterated on Friday, July 22, the executions would be "soon" and would include Indonesians and possibly a woman. Mr Prasetyo had earlier said prisoners from Nigeria and Zimbabwe would be among those targeted.

Indonesian human rights group Imparsial said an anti-death penalty coalition would present the staff of Indonesian President Joko Widodo with a list of about seven death row prisoners who had faced unfair trials and miscarriages of justice.

"It is very dangerous to carry out executions when the legal system is fragile and riddled with corruption, error, manipulation and collusion," Imparsial executive director Al Araf said.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court last week rejected an application for a case review into the case of Mr Igweh. His lawyer, Sitor Situmorang, told Fairfax Media that Supreme Court judges should try cases based on the law and not to achieve popularity or appear tough.

"We accepted Michael's case because we saw it had merit. Out of the many requests from prisoners on Nusakambangan, we only took this," Mr Sitor said.

He said Mr Igweh's conviction was based on the testimony of two alleged accomplices, Marlena and Izuchukwu Okoloaja, who died in police custody and could therefore not testify in court.

"We believe Marlena and Okoloaja gave Michael's name just so the police would stop torturing them," he said. "They were healthy when they were arrested, they had no history of illness, they all just suddenly died while in police custody. We all know what that means."

In a further ominous sign the executions could be just days away, prison visits have this week been suspended to the penal island of Nusakambangan, where the prisoners will be strapped to wooden posts and shot in a field.

Fourteen drug offenders were executed in Indonesia last year, including Australians Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, sparking an international backlash.
However the Indonesian government insists executions are necessary to combat a so-called drugs emergency.

"The public want it to be done soon," Attorney-General Prasetyo said on Friday. "We are getting more informed now and can see how drugs have affected our younger generation. We could just lose a generation."
