Kenyan activist and photojournalist, Boniface Mwangu shared disturbing videos of a pregnant woman being battered by her husband while neighbours watched helplessly. Below is what he wrote:


"She was assaulted by her husband in the presence of her neighbours. She was dragged in the house while bystanders watched without helping and the images that follow after she is dragged into the house are horrific, she is bleeding. The man beating is her husband and she is a silent domestic violence victim.
Her neighbours are silent too. This man would have killed her and the neighbours wouldn't have lifted a finger. The man was arrested but released after the victim refused to press charges. She is six months pregnant, afraid ,jobless and currently admitted at Langata Hospital. I'm sharing this video with permission from her and her dad"
According to Boniface, the victim who is currently admitted at the hospital, had lost a second pregnancy after a previous assault. The police said the man was arrested and later released on bail and will be arraigned in court on February 10.

The show which will hold at the Eko Convention Centre, Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos will also feature star performances from some of Nigeria’s finest artistes including Yemi Alade, Adekunle Gold, Iyanya, Sound Sultan, Zaina, Omawumi, Sammy, Olamide, Vector, Kaffy, Simi, Tolu, Blackky, Styl Plus, Jazzman Olofin, Weird MC, Kenny Black and many more.
 
It will be recalled that last year’s edition of the show was unable to hold owing to the shift in general election dates.

The Lagos state Court of Appeal has reserved judgement in the appeal filed by actress, Ibinabo Fiberesima-Egbuka, challenging the judgement of a Lagos High Court which sentenced her to five years imprisonment for the death of one Dr. Giwa Suraj.

Ibinabo was sentenced to five years imprisonment by Justice Deborah Oluwayemi of a Lagos state High Court for reckless driving which caused the death of Dr. Giwa Suraj in a car accident along the Lekki-Epe expressway, Lagos on February 26th 2006. Dissatisfied by the ruling of the High court, Ibinabo filed an appeal through her counsel, challenging the decision of the Lagos state high court to quash a N100, 000 fine without prison time, given to her by an Igbosere High Court. Not satisfied by the judgement of the Magistrate court, the Lagos state government then approached the High Court who quashed the verdict of the Magistrate court and sentenced Ibinabo to 5 years imprisonment. Ibinabo then appealed the judgement of the High court.

At the hearing of the appeal today January 28th, the appellate court presided over by Justice Ndukwe-Anyanwu, reserved judgement in the appeal after counsel adopted their written addresses. The court directed that Ibinabo who was not in court, should be present when judgement is to be delivered, adding that the date of judgment would be communicated to the parties.

The body of Mr. Dan Orogun, Managing Director of the Guaranty Trust Bank in Liberia was pulled out of a river a day after he was declared missing in a boating accident.

According to a statement released by GTBank Liberia, Orogun, a Nigerian, went missing after an unfortunate boating mishap that took place on Sunday, January 24, at the Barracuda Resort off the Robertsfied Highway in Monrovia.

Mr Orogun, a banker with more than 20 years experience was at the resort with friends when he reportedly fell into the water. Eyewitnesses said several attempts made to rescue him failed. He is credited with setting up GT Bank in Sierra Leone before moving to Liberia to set up another branch.

Sorry, we. would never support stripping and humiliating a child in this manner. Stealing from his mum was absolutely horrid but there are other ways to punish a child other than stripping him naked. Plus he's 9. Many of us stole from our parents when we were that age or a little older. Our brains don't function properly at that age...meaning we don't know better! Mum shouldn't have done that!

Earlier today, we posted a photo of a little boy whose eyes were plucked out. Here are more details. 4 year-old Naseerdeen's eyes were plucked out by ritualists in Zaria, Kaduna state. According to Aishat who shared this photo of Naseerdeen, on January 24, he was kidnapped along with his sister in Marafa (police college) Kaduna State, on their way to a mosque close to their home.

The kidnappers later dropped off the sister at sultan road Kaduna but took Naseerdeen to an unknown location. Naseerdeen was later found without his two eyes...
