ojuu4u: Dignity of African ladies/women had been completely eroded. Nothing like virtuous woman again, ladies want to indulge in all sort of exscapades that rampart among male folks in the past, gone are days that one could hardly seen girls discuss about sex openly but now girls talk about sex & immorality even in the present of guys more than guys do. I imagine how marriages will look like in nearest future.
Societies with decent men generally produce decent women and the ones with indecent men produce indecent women.Unfortunately the Nigerian society is the latter.Blame the men of today for the negative actions of the women
oyetpel: There is even severe suffering surrounding the US, such as countries like Guatemala, Panama, e.t.c and even Mexico sef.
I don't know how Africa can change the narrative that we are primitive. Whites and foreigners are visit our continent know that Africa is not as depicted on foreign TVs, but the their general populace still think so
I think it suits the agenda of the Governments in those countries and even the NGOs for the continent to be depicted in such manner. As for the countries you listed, google the Brazilian oil producing company Petrobas or search youtube for the documentary "Malaysia:Power and corruption". Brace yourself for the corruption on steroids you'll see
mekaprime: Nobody is disputing primarily what the flick is about, its the secondary/supporting attribute that i was simply hinting at. And the fact still remains just as you stated, these ills are more predominant in the African continent than anywhere else
You are ill informed and seem to lack real world experience.A simple google search on the socio economic malaise in south east Asia, central and south america and the middle east will do you some good.Even the western states have their own dire issues
In Bangladesh, large swaths of India, Cambodia, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, the populace face far more socio-economic difficulties than most African countries do. The west just love to accentuate our inadequacies more because, it falls within their age long "africa is a poverty stricken continent" narrative.
Exactly. It's all about the narrative. For example,Arnold Swarznegger was recently attacked in south africa by a crazed man and some US analysts were discussing the issue and comparing the legal system in south africa to north Korea.I was like "WHHHAAATTT!!!"
pansophist: The natural, most effective way for a man to attract a woman is to improve himself and be the best he can be then pick from the pool of women who already finds him attractive. It is a myth that your ''toasting'' skills, or whatever the poster wrote will get you women. It will if you are a valuable man, but it will not if you have no value attached to your being. Even without saying a word, if a woman finds you attractive (valuable), coughing is enough to get her commitment. Let's take for example Davido the musician (or any made man), he will naturally attract women, and they will be loyal to him to an exaggerated degree even if he doesn't reciprocate. When you approach a woman, it is not your sweet mouth that will attract her, but in her mind, she is already calculating complex theories to know if you are worthy of her.
Just as you are strategising to impress her with your toasting game, and be in your best behaviour, women are also on the look-out for quality males (a good catch), and no amount of sweet mouth will get you the woman you desire if you are not valuable. Try to be a catch (the one she is actively searching for), then women will flock to you. As an analogy, it is easier for a farmer to pick the fruits that his bait can reach, than aiming to pluck the ones in untold feet above him. And if she refuses you, in most cases, then she probably considers you below her league, as you do not emerge victorious in the series of evaluation you have undergone in her mind. You didn't pass the'' I will think about it'' test .
@emboldened Improve himself and be the best he can be in what ways?
mekaprime: Spot on. The flick simply captured all the ills we face as Africans, living in a third world continent.
The film deals more with a boy's ingenuity through difficult times.I repeat, the continent of Africa is not the only place in the world that encounters the challenges depicted in the film.Africa's woes are just more highlighted than others
herakles: and from your response I know you are utterly Clueless about these things. imagine comparing Nigerian music video with outright animated porn smh
"and" is a conjunction.Never begin a sentence with it.The only animated porn category i know is Hentai. The witness is not
KoiceReloaded: Any music video that contains suggestive content is usually rated R, or "Parental Advice" as it's known in the music industry. It means that music video has pornographic content not suitable for kids under the age of 18.
Koice, let's not fool ourselves here. How many homes in Nigeria use the parental guidance button for the music channels? Many Nigerian music videos are well beyond softcore and slightly below hardcore
herakles: capability is not the issue, it's just because of time constraints. I am having an unusually busy day
there are actually R rated music videos, and there is really no Nigerian music video that I know of that reveals such level of nudity
Is porn simply about nudity or sexual content? The twerking dance isnt sexual to you?Women kissing women?Women wearing skimpy bikinis and jiggling their bum?Women squatting forward and men rubbing their crotches on them? These are very common scenes in Nigerian music videos
KoiceReloaded: If that's the only thing you can grasp from the episode, then I'm right; the nudity completely undermined the value of the subject matter.
It wasn't just about a man chasing a _naked woman, it's about two people switching places from getting chased and being the chaser as a result of been trapped in a temporal paradox
That is what i have been trying to concentrate on with my past posts. The fact that the amazing quality of the short is being ignored inorder to discuss the creative choice(nude chase scene) of the production team is what i find exasperating. The witness is much more than a nude chase and dance scene.Thesame way the shape of water is much more than a woman having sex with an amphibian. It was a very good short story.End of ____
herakles: thank you! I was about to give him a lecture on the subject
If you were capable of lecturing me on the issue, you would have and would not need koice to do it for you.Tell me herakles,do you consider many Nigerian music videos to be pornographic?
KoiceReloaded: The nudity thing diminished the whole story. Showing bare titties, pubic regions and derrieres of a young stripper ain't a stellar way of showing how temporal paradox works. It's edgy and pretentious, and completely detracts from the value of principal theme.
Koice, you are over analysing those scenes in the animated short. It was simply a young woman running naked from a man she was threatened by.No big deal.It was a great story and the animation was superb
Achilles100: Clearly you were looking at picture and not following the story. At the end it changed, twas now the girl chasing the guy hence the time loop theory.
You are rude.I never quoted you or asked for your opinion.Keep to your lane
KoiceReloaded: The best animation of the season IMO. Loved the temporal paradox too, but tbh, the concept was marred by the gratuitous display of nudity Sent mixed signals. Couldn't decide if I was watching a horror_porn or two people caught in a time loop.
What is the big deal?It was just a lady writhing out of her clothes and running from a man unclad
KoiceReloaded: The OA is the best show on the planet atm. First season was weird and a bit vague, but Season 2 embraced the weirdness without embarrassment, and even cranked it up a notch. A lot of questions from season 1 were answered and new ones were posed. It's a batshit insane season, and I had a blast watching it. Can't wait for season 3. Hope it won't take another 3 years to happen.
Love, Death & Robots is awesome. I love the brief episodes, the different animation styles, the CGI, the intelligent writing, the general weirdness, the creativity, the humor, and overall, the uniqueness. There's not a show quite like it atm. Black Mirror is a bit similar in theme, but a different show at the core.
"Good Hunting" is a poignant episode, but the "Helping Hand" episode appealed to me the most A person can do just about anything to stay alive, things you wouldn't even consider on normal circumstances.
My favorite is "The witness".The animation in that episode is a stunning.I also enjoyed the story and its loop concept
BetWinners: Your accusation amuses me.My experience is not strange but a very normal human feeling. It is so normal it has been explored in books and movies. This is a movies thread so I will list 2:'LOLITA' & 'The Crush'
Hello.I watched the crush yesternight and loved it.It is far from being a masterpiece. It tends more to titillate than showcase any real quality.Though i doubt a movie like that can be produced in the present climate
KoiceReloaded: Everyone has flaws, but there are flaws, and there are FLAWS.
There are flaws that are not easy to sweep under the carpet, and there are flaws that can easily be overlooked. For instance, it's fine to overlook Tom Cruise Scientology background for the fact that it doesn't step on any toes or break any laws, but not peachy to do the same on Kevin Spacey. He sexually abused a teenager, and that is not okay. Trying to watch his films knowing this things will weigh on anyone's conscience.
The way i don't care if Mr Cruise is a Scientologist,is thesame way i dont care if Mr Spacey is a paedophile.Personally,I could careless about what they all did or who/what they are.I still enjoy all their works
pryme: Lol no wonder Josh Brolin found it very natural to hit a woman in Oldboy, i have now added him with Van Dam in the list of wive beaters.
Try not to be too harsh on him.Afterall,he has never encouraged men to slap their wives once or twice if they are being stubborn like Sean Connery aka James Bond did in a late 1980s interview with Barbara Walters. The duration of the video is 57seconds.
KoiceReloaded: It would be grievously unfair to lump celebrities like RDJ, Tom Cruise, and Ben Affleck with the likes of Kevin Spacey, Bill Cosby, Roman Polanski, and Mark Wahlberg.
Being an alcoholic or atheist is not the same as being a racist and a pedophile. It's two completely different worlds... apples and oranges. Alcoholism and not believing in god or gods are moralistically gray, and thus, not against the law. However, being racist and a child molester is the lowest of crime you can possibly imagine. They're moralistically black and thus, are utterly and completely against the law.
I only stated the flaws/crimes of those celebrities. My intention was not to lump all the flaws/crimes together
skitkid2: Korean actors have better looking faces.
The post of yours stated "Their men are very handsome" which gave the impression Korean men are generally handsome because their male soap opera actors are.I was merely disputing that claim.Personally,I think Korean actors and their male k-pop singers are androgynous looking.I carried out a research to find out why that was and discovered that Korean women desire feminine looking men than masculine looking ones
skitkid2: Their men are very handsome so there you go.
@bold text I vehemently disagree because judging the looks of the generality of Korean men based on korean soap opera actors is thesame as judging the looks of American men based on the looks of "The Young and the Restless" male actors. It is not viable
@BlackManta When the dark knight movie was released back in 2008,there was an overwhelming campaign by everyone for Ledger to win a major award because of his "earth shattering" performance as the Joker. The Oscar he won was a sentimental one because of his death and nothing else When Ledger was announced to play the Joker back in 2006,i remember how there was a vicious campaign by fans to get him removed because they believed he would not be able to portray the Joker as well as Jack Nicholson.Personally,i think to play the Joker,an actor has got to overact.Nicholson did it,Ledger did it,same as Leto even Mark Hamill in the batman animated show
BlackManta: Anyone who shits on The Dark Knight should be considered a troll.
How can someone say that The Dark Knight would have been unwatchable without Heath Ledger
TDK is hands down one of the greatest comic book movies ever made.
That your opinion was BLASPHEMY.
But let's agree to disagree.
Everyone is entitled to his opinion no matter how crazy it sounds.
I don't know how to troll. If the dark knight is such a good movie as many folks claim, why would they constantly ignore discussing the themes and plot of the movie and only concentrate on the performance of one of the actors?
BlackManta: And he won an Oscar for best supporting actor at the age of 29
Heath Ledger was busting with potentials after he blew everyone away with his Joker It's a pity he died young.
I wonder what his career would look like now if he didn't die
Heath Ledger is a fantastic actor
If anyone is overrated, it is Christian Bale as Batman Some people think he is the best batman but he was only buzzing off the glory of Heath Ledger and a great TDK trilogy.
@1st bolded It was a sentimental award because of his death @2nd bolded Personally,he blew me away in an understated role in brokeback. His overacting as the Joker was ridiculous @3rd bolded Thesame as it was when he was alive.Hit and miss.Heath is just another name in a long line of Hollywood James Deans @4th bolded He was a good actor."Fantastic" is too strong a word to use for him @5th bolded Bale was a good batman and a great actor.American Psycho? The Machinist?Rescue Dawn?
Beorn: You're a troll like Koice rightly pointed out. You mean I'd lying about seeing those movies? Because Heath is my father or what? You'll be ignored henceforth.
I have noticed on this forum if a monicker has a contrary opinion to others and if the other monicker is incapable of defending his stance on an issue,he automatically labels the other monicker a troll. How many times have you watched the slogfests Brokeback and The Patriot?Abeg go siddon for corner
