Foreign AffairsRe: Dubai Is Finished, We're Not Coming Back: Expats Say As They Flee The Country by Konquest: 2:15am On Mar 16
WriterNig:
Dubai Is Finished, We're Not Coming Back: Expats Say As They Flee

Expats claim they will leave Dubai and never return as they fear for their lives and see their businesses destroyed while missiles continue to rain down over the United Arab Emirates.

Once a tax-free haven attracting influencers from across the globe and thousands of Brits seeking warm weather and crime free streets, Dubai's carefully crafted image has been shattered and residents believe it is 'finished'.

The emirate, home to around 240,000 British expats including Rio and Kate Ferdinand, Luisa Zissman and Petra Ecclestone, has been targeted by constant Iranian missile and drone attacks as the regime strikes US allies in the Middle East.

Dubai has been the target of two thirds of Iran's missiles and three massive explosions rocked the city on Wednesday morning, with the international airport sustaining damage.

Four people were injured as two drones hit the terminal, while a string of major airlines cancelled all flights to the region for weeks.

Even the world famous Fairmont hotel on Palm Jumeirah was struck by Iran, while employees at western banks including Standard Chartered and Citi evacuated their offices amid threats from the Islamic Republic that they were the next targets of their bombing onslaught.

Four people have been killed so far and tens of thousands of residents and tourists have now fled in the weeks since the conflict began.

And those who remain face prosecution if they post videos of missiles overhead, despite constant phone alerts warning them to stay away from windows and seek shelter.

Dubai does not have vast oil reserves and relies on its expat population, which makes up 90 per cent of the city.

It has launched a desperate public relations campaign, telling people the 'big booms' in the sky are 'the sound of us being safe' as the UAE air defence system takes action.

But it has done little to quell fears.

'The shine has definitely been taken off,' John Trudinger, a British Dubai resident of 16 years, told The Guardian.

The headteacher employs more than 100 teachers from the UK at his Emirati school and claims most are so 'deeply traumatised and really struggling to cope' with the war that they have fled and will never return.

Taxi driver Zain Anwar saw his car destroyed in a missile attack and said his family are begging him to return home to Pakistan.

He said: 'I don’t want to be in Dubai any more, there is no business, we are earning nothing since this war, and I don’t see the tourism coming back.

'A lot of taxi drivers like me, we are thinking to go to a different country now. Everybody knows that Dubai is finished.'

Iran has continued to pound the city, sending 1,700 projectiles in two weeks, although 90 per cent have been destroyed by air defence systems.

But on Saturday, a drone was caught on video sending up a huge pall of smoke near the airport.

Seun:
This thread is dedicated to tracking the ongoing military conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, which began on February 28, 2026. Please use this space to share the latest news updates, verified reports, and geopolitical analysis.

Key Developments (as of March 15, 2026):

Outbreak and Leadership: The war started with joint US and Israeli strikes on Iran, one of which killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He has since been succeeded by his son, Mojtaba Khamenei.

Military Escalation: The US and Israel have executed thousands of strikes across Iran, recently targeting military and air defense installations on Kharg Island, Iran's main oil export hub. Iran and its allied proxy groups in Lebanon and Iraq have launched waves of retaliatory ballistic missiles and drones at Israel and US bases throughout the region.

Regional Impact & Nigerian Casualties: Gulf states hosting US bases are caught in the crossfire. The UAE Ministry of Defence reported that 141 foreign nationals, including Nigerians residing in the UAE, have been injured by debris and Iranian strikes. Saudi Arabia and Bahrain have also had to intercept dozens of projectiles.

Global Economy: Iran has effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz to hostile nations. Over 500 oil tankers are currently trapped in the Persian Gulf, causing global oil and gas prices to spike sharply.

Casualties: More than 1,400 people have been killed in Iran, with thousands of residential buildings damaged. Israel and Lebanon have both sustained significant casualties and infrastructure damage. The US military has reported 13 service member fatalities, including six who died in a KC-135 plane crash in Iraq.

Diplomacy: US President Donald Trump has publicly rejected reaching a ceasefire deal, stating the terms are not yet good enough, and has urged allied nations to send warships to secure the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian officials have denied asking for negotiations.
A kick-ass mega thread.

I’m Almost 50 And Still Single, That Alone Is A Red Flag— Billionaire Keji Giwa

Nigerian billionaire businessman Keji Giwa has sparked conversations online after candidly describing himself as a “red flag” while discussing relationships, marriage, and perceptions surrounding older single men.

Speaking during a recent discussion, Giwa admitted that his relationship status at his age naturally raises questions, noting that many people may view him as a warning sign in the dating world.

“I am single, almost 50… I would be surprised if you don’t consider me a red flag,” he said, adding that he could even describe himself as a “walking red flag.”

The businessman explained that societal expectations particularly within Nigerian culture often place pressure on men to be married at a certain stage in life, making long-term bachelorhood appear unusual despite personal success.

He also shared his views on relationships involving older wealthy men, arguing that attraction is sometimes driven more by stability than genuine emotional connection.

“The attraction is not that he’s good-looking. The attraction is some level of security,” he said.

According to him, this reality can lead to misunderstandings in marriages, especially when intentions are not rooted in love.

He further noted that perceptions of wealth can sometimes create false impressions in relationships, stressing that appearances may not always reflect reality.

“Some women get to know me properly and realize that not all glitter is gold,” he added.

Giwa concluded by stating that one of the biggest red flags in modern dating is the illusion of wealth, saying, “One of the walking red flags is the illusion that he has money when he doesn’t.”

Foreign AffairsRe: World War III Could Kill Over 500 Million People – Peacepro by Konquest: 1:18am On Mar 16
experts:
World War III Could Kill Over 500 Million People – PeacePro

The Foundation for Peace Professionals (PeacePro) has issued a stark warning that a third global war could result in more than 500 million deaths, citing historical escalation patterns in warfare and the unprecedented destructive capacity of modern nuclear weapons.

The warning comes as tensions escalate in the Middle East following the ongoing military confrontation involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, a conflict analysts fear could expand into a wider regional or global crisis.

PeacePro made the warning in a new strategic report titled “Global Escalation of Warfare and Projected Human Cost of a Potential World War III,” authorized by the organization’s Executive Director, Abdulrazaq Hamzat.

According to the report by PeacePro, modern history shows a clear pattern of rising casualties in successive global wars.
The World War I, fought between 1914 and 1918, resulted in approximately 10–20 million deaths. Just 21 years later, the world descended into World War II, which lasted from 1939 to 1945 and claimed an estimated 50–70 million lives, representing a 400–500 percent increase in casualties.

PeacePro noted that this dramatic escalation was largely driven by advances in military technology and the expansion of warfare to civilian populations.

“The lesson from history is that each major global war has been far more destructive than the one before it,” Hamzat said.

The report emphasizes that modern warfare has entered a fundamentally different era due to the development of nuclear weapons.

The atomic bombs dropped in 1945 had explosive yields of about 15 kilotons, yet modern nuclear warheads are significantly more powerful, often ranging from hundreds of kilotons to several megatons.

PeacePro highlighted that the most powerful nuclear device ever tested, the Soviet Tsar Bomba, had a yield of about 50 megatons, making it more than 3,000 times stronger than the Hiroshima bomb.

In addition, modern missile systems are capable of carrying multiple nuclear warheads, enabling a single missile to strike several cities simultaneously.

The report warns that these technological advances mean a large scale nuclear exchange could devastate entire regions within minutes.

PeacePro’s warning comes as the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran continues to intensify.

The war has already involved airstrikes, missile attacks, and drone operations across multiple locations in the Middle East, raising fears that additional regional actors could be drawn into the conflict.

Analysts warn that if the war expands, particularly if major powers become directly involved, it could significantly increase the risk of a broader international confrontation.

The conflict also threatens critical global energy infrastructure and strategic shipping routes such as the Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly one fifth of the world’s oil supply passes.

Disruption in this corridor could trigger severe economic consequences worldwide and further destabilize global security.

PeacePro estimates that if a global war were to occur in the nuclear age, the human cost could reach more than 500 million deaths.

The organization said casualties would likely arise from multiple sources, including direct military strikes on cities and infrastructure, nuclear detonations and radiation exposure, collapse of global food and energy supply systems, economic and financial system breakdown and mass displacement and humanitarian crises etc.

In addition to immediate casualties, scientists notes that large scale nuclear warfare could trigger nuclear winter, a scenario in which massive amounts of smoke and debris block sunlight, potentially devastating global agriculture.

PeacePro is urging global leaders to prioritize diplomacy and international cooperation to prevent escalation.

The organization called for renewed efforts to strengthen nuclear arms control agreements, expand diplomatic engagement, and reduce geopolitical tensions between major powers.

“Humanity has already witnessed the devastation of two world wars,” Hamzat said. “But in the nuclear age, a third global war would not simply be another conflict between nations, it could become a civilization level catastrophe.”

PeacePro concluded that preventing a global war must remain one of the highest priorities of the international community, warning that failure to do so could result in the largest human tragedy in recorded history.

Foreign AffairsRe: Iran Threatens UAE's Ports And Docks, Warns People To Evacuate Busiest Port by Konquest: 1:04am On Mar 16
Pakute:
Iran on Saturday threatened for the first time to attack infrastructure of a neighboring country, urging people to evacuate three major ports in the United Arab Emirates that Tehran claimed were “legitimate targets” because the U.S. military used them for attacks.

The escalation sharpened global economic worries as tensions mount around the Strait of Hormuz, a route for about one-fifth of the world’s oil where shipping has effectively ground to a halt.

Some oil-loading operations have been suspended in the United Arab Emirates' Fujairah emirate, a major ‌bunkering hub and crude export terminal, after a drone attack and fire on Saturday, industry and trade sources said.

The suspension comes hours after the US attacked military targets on Iran's Kharg Island oil export terminal ‌and Iran's Revolutionary Guards responded by saying that US interests in the UAE - including ports, docks and military locations - were legitimate targets.

Iran has fired hundreds of missiles and drones at Gulf neighbors, saying it targets U.S. assets even as airports and oil facilities have been hit or threatened. America and Israel have struck thousands of targets across Iran during the war, now in its third week.

Iran says the US attacked from close to Dubai

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told MS NOW that the U.S. attacked Kharg Island and Abu Musa Island with low-range artillery from two locations in the UAE, Ras Al-Khaimah and a place “very close to Dubai,” calling that dangerous and saying Iran “will try to be careful not to attack any populated area” there.

Iran has fired hundreds of missiles and drones at Arab Gulf neighbors during the war, but it said it was targeting U.S. assets, even as hits or attempts were reported on civilian ones such as airports and oil fields.

On Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump said the U.S. “obliterated” military sites on Kharg Island, home to the main terminal handling Iran’s oil exports. He said oil infrastructure could be next if Tehran continues to interfere with ships’ passage through the Strait of Hormuz, where vessels are backed up and one-fifth of global oil supplies usually transit.

Iran’s parliamentary speaker has said strikes against the country’s oil infrastructure would provoke a new level of retaliation.

As global anxiety soars over oil prices and supplies, Trump said Saturday that he hopes China, France, Japan, South Korea, the U.K. and others send warships to keep the Strait of Hormuz “open and safe.” Britain in response said it was discussing with allies a “range of options” to secure shipping.

Iran repeats threat against US-linked oil assets

On Saturday, Iran’s joint military command reiterated its threat to attack U.S.-linked “oil, economic and energy infrastructures” in the region if the Islamic Republic’s oil infrastructure is hit.

Iran’s semiofficial Fars news agency said the Kharg Island strikes caused no damage to oil infrastructure. It said they targeted an air defense facility, a naval base, the airport control tower and an offshore oil company’s helicopter hangar.

U.S. Central Command said it destroyed naval mine storage facilities, missile storage bunkers and other military sites.

Israel earlier announced another wave of strikes in Iran targeting infrastructure, and said its air force had hit more than 200 targets in the last 24 hours, including missile launchers, defense systems and weapons production sites.

Foreign AffairsRe: Iran Is ‘Running Out Of Missiles’ - The Telegraph by Konquest: 1:49pm On Mar 05
BlackViper:
Number of rockets fired by Tehran over 24-hours has plummeted – possibly owing to its ground launchers being blown up in strikes

Iran appears to have lost its ability to fire massive missile salvos in retaliation against the United States and Israel.

Tehran has significantly curbed the number of ballistic missiles it is firing in a 24-hour period, according to analysis published by countries coming under attack from the Islamic Republic.

Experts suggest this could be the result of the Iranian armed forces losing ground-based missile launchers in US strikes, known as transporter erector launchers (TEL).

Iran is thought to have fired off hundreds more missiles in the initial days of this conflict than it did during the 12-day war with Israel in June last year.

Iran was believed to have vast stockpiles of short-range ballistic missiles before the conflict started, with conservative estimates putting the numbers at around 2,000 to 2,500.

Tehran has launched an estimated 500-750 ballistic missiles since Saturday, targeting mainly Israel and countries across the Gulf that host American military bases.

Countries such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Kuwait have been publishing a daily tally of Iranian missiles and drones launched in their direction.

In the first two days of the conflict, Iran fired an average of 58 ballistic missiles a day at the UAE, but this fell to only 10 on the fourth day.

This was the “preliminary evidence that Iran is running out of ballistic missiles”, according to Colby Badhwar, a defence analyst.

Bahrain claimed to have successfully intercepted a total of 70 missiles on Tuesday. A day later, it said the total number had risen to 74.

Kuwait claimed to have engaged a total of 97 ballistic missiles in the first 24 hours of the war, but has not provided new figures in the days since.

Qatar’s defence ministry on Wednesday said it had been targeted by two ballistic missiles, with one of them hitting the Al-Udeid base without causing casualties.

This figure was down from seven ballistic missiles launched against the Gulf state on Monday.

In total, Qatar claims to have been targeted with at least 101 ballistic missiles, with the vast majority coming in the first and second days of the war.

American tactics have focused on destroying Iran’s offensive capabilities, wiping out many of the TELs.

“We’re focused on shooting everything that can shoot at us,” Brad Cooper, who heads up US central command, said in a briefing

Satellite images have shown damage to missile facilities across Iran, including one ballistic missile site in the central city of Isfahan. The site, which was partially rebuilt after American attacks in June during the 12-day war, was struck again between Feb 27 and March 1, according to before-and-after satellite images.
Satellite imagery shows damage to a ballistic missile facility at Isfahan, around 270 miles south of Tehran.

Fabian Hoffmann, a missile technology expert based in Oslo, wrote on social media: “Given that the present conflict is far more existential from a regime perspective and that short-range ballistic missiles are viable, one would expect significantly greater ballistic missile use unless Iran’s missile and launcher capabilities have been heavily degraded – which evidently they are.

“Interceptor stockpile shortages were, and arguably remain, a valid concern, but only if Iran had been able to sustain the intensity observed during the first two nights, which it clearly has not. At present, with the possible exception of Bahrain, no Gulf state appears to be in a particularly alarming position.”

The US is also depleting its stocks of precision weapons, leaving it “days away” from being forced to prioritise which targets to intercept, sources told the Wall Street Journal.

treesun:
Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council, FEC, has approved the demolition and complete reconstruction of the Carter Bridge in Lagos, the government confirmed on Wednesday.

Announcing the decision after a cabinet meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, Minister of Works, David Umahi, said the council also approved N5.6 billion to hire specialized engineering consultants for the design and cost assessment of the new bridge.

“Carter Bridge can no longer be rehabilitated; it must be taken down and rebuilt entirely,” Umahi stated, adding that the decision follows extensive consultations with stakeholders and had previously received backing from FEC in an earlier session.

The Carter Bridge is one of Lagos’s busiest roadways, connecting Lagos Island with the mainland and serving as a key route for daily commuters and commercial traffic.

Umahi also revealed that the FEC approved six additional large-scale infrastructure projects during Wednesday’s meeting, including major highway upgrades and reconstructions across multiple geopolitical zones.

The minister said the administration aims to complete and commission at least four projects per zone by 15 May.

“These are substantial infrastructure initiatives, not mere stopgap measures,” he emphasized.

Ground invasion launched against Iran as thousands of US-backed Kurdish fighters storm border

Thousands of Kurdish fighters have a launched a ground invasion in Iran, according to a US official.

The Kurdish militias, based across the border in Iraq, began the offensive in northwestern Iran on Wednesday.

President Donald Trump on Sunday night spoke with the heads of Kurdish militant groups in Iraq to discuss the situation in Iran.

The CIA was exploring plans to arm the Kurdish forces with the aim of sparking a popular uprising, CNN reported Tuesday.

The Kurdish groups are widely seen as the most well-organized faction of the fragmented Iranian opposition and are believed to have thousands of battle-hardened fighters.

Their entry into the war could pose a significant challenge to the besieged authorities in Tehran and could also risk pulling Iraq further into the conflict.

Asked about Kurdish involvement, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told reporters: 'None of our objectives are premised on the support or the arming of any particular force.

'So, what other entities may be doing, we're aware of, but our objectives aren't centered on that.'

Cooking Gas Prices Rise As Petrol Hike Bites Harder by Islie: 11:45am
Residents across Nigerian cities are grappling with sharp increases in cooking gas prices, and the impact of the hike in Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) pump prices continues to ripple through household budgets and supply chains.

The surge in cooking gas prices in Nigeria is being linked to the ongoing US–Israel–Iran conflict, which has disrupted global oil and gas markets and pushed up benchmark prices that feed into local LPG costs

Residents of Lagos communities are grappling with fresh increases in cooking gas prices, as the ripple effects of the recent PMS (petrol) hike continue to impact household budgets.

Findings by LEADERSHIP around Onike, Iwaya and Yaba on Wednesday revealed that one kilogramme of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) now sells between N1,250 and N1,300, depending on the retailer, from about N900 per litre, last week

The price of a 5kg cylinder ranges from N7, 500 to N8,167, while 12.5kg refills cost between N13,750 and N19,200 along Iwaya and Onike.

However, the sharp price fluctuations, even over a short period, have left many residents confused and frustrated, with some accusing retailers of exploiting the situation created by the recent petrol price hike.

A resident of the Berger area of Lagos, who identified herself simply as Amaka said the rising cost of both petrol and cooking gas has worsened the cost-of-living crisis.

“Everything is going up at the same time. Transport fares have increased due to petrol, and cooking gas is also high. We don’t even know which one to complain about first,” she lamented.

She added that she was shocked to be quoted N19,200 for a 12.5kg refill at a neighbourhood outlet. “Last time I refilled, it was far less than this. How did we get to almost N20,000? It is becoming difficult for an average family to cope,” she said.

Retailers who spoke to our correspondent attributed the increase to higher transportation costs following the PMS hike and to supply chain pressures.

While one dealer explained that distributors now charge more to move products from depots to retail points.

“Some of those stations that we get the gas have jacked up there prices. When petrol goes up, everything goes up. We use vehicles to transport the gas cylinders. The cost is transferred to us, and we have no choice but to adjust,” he said.

In Wawa, a border community along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, residents shared similar concerns.

Mama Chisom, mother of three, said she has begun rationing gas usage to make ends meet. “With what’s going on now, we are managing it carefully. I tell my children not to waste gas. Sometimes, I cook once and warm the food later to save cost,” she said.

She added that the combined effect of high transport fares and rising food prices has placed additional strain on families in border communities. “We depend on the city for many things. If fuel prices increase, transport costs increase, and now gas prices are high too. It is too much for us,” she said.

In Abuja, LEADERSHIP checks also showed that cooking gas prices spiked up yesterday amid the US-Israel/Iran conflict’s oil market volatility.

A 12.5kg cylinder now costs between N17,000 to N19,500 in areas like Garki and Wuse, up 25 per cent from last week, per market surveys. Vendors linked it to imported LPG cost surges—exacerbated by war-driven shipping delays and Brent crude jumps—plus local trucking expenses from the PMS hike. Civil servant Ibrahim Musa lamented: “Fuel scarcity fears from the war are hitting us here. Gas was our affordable alternative; now it’s pricier than kerosene.”

In the gas-rich Niger Delta, Port Harcourt residents faced the steepest climbs. Refills for 12.5kg cylinders ranged from N18,500 to N21,000 in Diobu and Trans-Amadi, as local production failed to offset global LNG disruptions caused by Iranian threats. Dealers say PMS hikes doubled delivery costs from riverside plants.Trader Ebere Okoro said: “Ironically, in the gas capital, we’re worst off. The Middle East war blocks cheap imports, and petrol woes inflate everything.”

Kano’s markets mirror the crisis, with 6kg cylinders at N9,000 to N10,500 in Sabon Gari and Kwari. Long-haul transport from southern depots, now costlier due to PMS, compounds war-induced increases in feedstock prices. Housewife Fatima Yusuf shared: “We’re returning to firewood. Gas was a relief, but this Iran-US-Israel escalation makes it luxury.”

Market analyses indicate that the US–Israel strikes on Iranian targets and Iran’s retaliatory actions have unsettled crude oil flows in the Persian Gulf, causing international crude and LPG benchmarks to rise.

Because Nigeria’s fuel and LPG pricing is tied to international benchmarks and foreign-exchange costs, local pump and cylinder prices have risen even though the country is not directly in the conflict zone.

Depot owners across Nigeria have reportedly increased the price of cooking gas by an average of about N100 per kilogramme, with major distributors such as NIPCO, Navgas, and Techno Oil quoting roughly N885–N950 per kg, compared with an earlier average of about N800 per kg. Industry sources say these adjustments followed a spike in Nigeria’s benchmark crude and global LPG rates, which they attribute to the Iran-related supply disruptions and heightened geopolitical risk.

Analysts warn that the same global oil‑price surge that benefits Nigeria’s export revenues can squeeze consumers, because higher benchmarks translate into more expensive petrol and cooking gas, which in turn push up transport and food costs.

They add that if the US–Israel–Iran tensions persist or worsen, particularly around key chokepoints such as the Strait of Hormuz, domestic fuel and gas prices could face further upward pressure.

Nigeria is filled with a lot of greedy wholesalers and retailers who increase the prices of goods and services at random.

That's what is going on right now with random spikes in prices. They will use any slight excuse to immediately increase prices and I have emphasized that price regulatory agencies are urgently needed to tame these middle men and retailers to prevent "artificial inflation." Period.
