New Project Win | Lagos, Nigeria
CCECC has won the bid for the 7MW floating solar power project at the Federal University of Lagos in Nigeria. The project is located in the lagoon waters surrounding the university campus. Upon completion, it is expected to become Nigeria's first floating solar power station, providing the Federal University of Lagos with a reliable supply of safe, stable, and clean energy.

I wonder what those Professors and eggheads in Unilag are doing... This floating solar project ought to have been handled by them.

Second, the use of mini-hydro and micro-hydro projects to generate power supply in an aquatic location like Lagos State which has has many islands would have made a LOT of sense as well.

Third, a modern desalination power plant to supply massive electricity and potable water from the Atlantic Ocean to homes and industries is another low-hanging fruit Lagos State Governments are NOT taking advantage of.

STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

President Tinubu approves posting of 4 ambassador-designates
*Isa Dakingari Suleiman for Turkey

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of four ambassador-designates, out of the 68 confirmed by the Senate last December.

President Tinubu confirmed the postings of Ambassador Ayodele Oke as the ambassador-designate to France, and Colonel Lateef Are as the ambassador-designate to the United States of America.

Also confirmed by the President is the posting of Ambassador Amin Dalhatu, former ambassador to South Korea, as the high commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom.

Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman, former governor of Kebbi, is the ambassador-designate to Turkey, where the President is scheduled to begin a state visit next week.

In a memo to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Tinubu urged the ministry to notify the governments of the four countries about the ambassador-designates, in accordance with diplomatic procedures.

At last.

A Colonel Lateef Are as the Ambassador goes to the United States while Ambassador Ayodele Oke goes to France. NOT bad because both men have high-quality intelligence and international knowledge that are required in these times of fast-paced global geopolitical events.

Something tells me that 'Femi Fani-Kayode with his UK-educated legal background might be posted to the United Kingdom because he's a British citizen as well and knows that place very well. We'll see how things pan out in the days ahead.

PoliticsRe: Shell Announces $20 Billion Investment In Bonga South West Oil Project by Konquest:
seunmsg:
Oil giant Shell Companies in Nigeria on Thursday announced plans to invest US$20 billion in the Bonga South West oil project.

NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer Bashir Bayo Ojulari disclosed this while speaking with State House correspondents after President Bola Tinubu received in audience Shell Companies CEO Wael Sawan at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The NNPCL boss said the US$20 billion investment would have a ripple effect on the economy, creating jobs and resuscitating moribund fabrication yards.

Chief Ojulari said the economic climate established by President Tinubu’s administration had restored investor confidence.

He added: “I think what this has shown is that we’re seeing more confidence in Nigeria’s economy from investors. Mr President has also committed to continuing to explore opportunities as they arise, ensuring Nigeria’s investment environment—particularly in the oil and gas industry—remains dynamic.”

He continued: “Shell also committed to the President to pursue another US$20 billion in opportunities over the next couple of years. They indicated that their ability to do this—and to attract global capital amid fierce competition—stems from the confidence they have in the leadership Mr President has demonstrated.

“Not just talked about, but in terms of what they can touch and feel, around transparency and commitment to Mr President’s agenda. To that extent, Shell also began discussing the next project they’re eyeing for FDI (Final Investment Decision) the Bonga South West project. That project involves capital investment of close to US$10 billion, plus operating expenses.

“When we talk about these big numbers, we need to clarify what they mean: more jobs from construction, giving Nigerians ample opportunities to participate. Most of our fabrication yards—closed for years due to a lack of projects—will come back to life. Nigerians have made huge investments in those yards, which have lain idle for far too long.

“Apart from the project phase, completing it means employment for the next 20 to 25 years over the field’s life. That’s where operating expenditure comes in—for suppliers of materials, manpower, and maintenance activities. It’s a huge undertaking, which is why Shell’s overall chairman came himself this time to make those commitments directly to Mr President.

“As NNPCL, as concession holder for the Nigerian PSCs with international investors like Shell, Chevron, ExxonMobil, and TotalEnergies, our role is to work with them and other parts of government to create solutions and proposals for approval.

“Our responsibility is to be the conscience of the government and Nigerians—ensuring the assumptions and promises made are correct and authentic. We’ve been doing that, and we hope to complete it soon, securing Mr President’s support for the final investment decision.

“Today was about Shell expressing gratitude to Mr President for his administration’s transparency and personal commitment to the investment climate, while showing their own commitment to continued investment in Nigeria.”

He noted that in just one-and-a-half years, Shell had completed the transaction transferring its onshore Joint Venture assets to Renaissance, demonstrating to the world Tinubu’s commitment to enabling investor entry.

“That brought confidence to the international community, including Shell. Having completed that divestment, Shell took a final investment decision of US$5 billion for Bonga North development. Subsequently, they approved another US$2 billion for the shallow-water feed—’Hi’ for gas development. Overall, since Mr President announced incentives, Shell alone has invested over US$7 billion.”

CareerRe: The Hard Truth About Lawyer Pay In Lagos: Is The System Broken? by Konquest: 9:47pm On Jan 22
StrngT:
I want to share a simple perspective on what many young lawyers are silently dealing with in Lagos.

A lawyer earning ₦140,000 monthly and working in places like Ikeja while living around Ogudu will likely spend a good part of that salary before the month ends even take loan.

Transport alone can take about ₦45,000, especially for those who go to the office three days a week. Feeding at work and at home can easily take another ₦60,000–₦70,000.

When you put these together, more than ₦110,000 is already gone from a ₦140,000 salary, and this is before considering things like clothes, laundry, data, health needs, or unexpected issues.

In simple terms, what is left at the end of the month is usually around ₦20,000–₦25,000, and even that can disappear once something unplanned comes up.

Professional dressing is another pressure. A decent suit today costs around ₦200,000. For someone saving about ₦20k monthly, that means many months of saving just for one suit, assuming nothing else demands attention.

Yet, it is common knowledge that some law firms still pay between ₦80,000–₦100,000 monthly. At that level, basic expenses alone exceed the salary income, which means the lawyer is either depending on family support or cutting back on essentials.

This situation raises a simple question: how sustainable is this for the profession?

I also understand that many firms are under pressure from clients who delay payment or bargain legal fees down. At the same time, there are many young lawyers seeking experience, which makes it easier for firms to offer lower pay.

But we can't write off that when trained professionals consistently struggle to meet basic living needs, it affects morale, long-term commitment, and the overall quality of legal service.

This is not a discussion about anything else than to ask a sincere question whether current pay levels of Lagos lawyer realistically match the cost of living in Lagos.

I believe this is a conversation the profession needs to keep having, so that law practice can remain a respected career.

For lawyers in Lagos who were able to come out of this situation like a boss , what did you do differently? Because this is no longer funny at all.

Please mode, push to front page.
You should be thinking of increasing your streams of income (creating multiple streams of active and passive income) or ditch the job if you can't cope.

There are some male and female lawyers from around the world who have ditched their legal careers and moved to areas where they find more fulfilment.

Tinubu Approves Oil Drilling at Tongeji Island, Olokola Deep Seaport Gets Green Light

President @officialABAT has approved the commencement of commercial oil drilling at Tongeji Island, positioning Ogun State firmly on the path to becoming an oil-producing state.

Governor @DapoAbiodunCON also announced the immediate take-off of the long-awaited Olokola Deep Seaport in Ogun Waterside, to be known as the Blue Marine Economic Zone. The project will significantly decongest Lagos ports, unlock massive commercial and industrial opportunities, and fully harness Ogun State’s strategic coastal advantage.

Governor Abiodun noted that both projects are of special interest to Mr President and disclosed that engagements are already ongoing to fast-track implementation. He also commended the Nigerian Navy for upgrading its presence at Tongeji Island to a Forward Operations Base, strengthening border security and protecting emerging economic activities.

Whoa!

That's one giant leap for Ogun State, Nigeria, and the oil and gas ecosystem. This would provide more crude oil feedstock for the petrochemical refineries that would be built there. There's also offshore crude oil blocks and estimated oil and gas reserves off the coast of Ogun State, so, more value addition of crude oil is expected here.

However, Ogun State falls within the Bitumen Belt of Nigeria (which has the second largest reserve of Bitumen in the world after Canada) and that has to be explored as well in addition to the construction of bitumen refineries in Ogun, Lagos, Ondo and Edo States. These 4 States constitute the Bitumen Belt of Nigeria and they hold Bitumen reserves which are far more than ALL the oil reserves Nigeria currently has.

Last but not least, I saw some highly uninformed posts right above from some obviously highly insidious and envious posters. The FACT that more oil and gas reserves are being discovered is a blessing as these would serve as feedstocks for the petrochemical industry in Nigeria. That's where the real money is as a result of value addition for foreign exchange earnings instead of simply exporting unprocessed crude oil in barrels. Period.
CelebritiesRe: Davido’s Twins Are Autistic, Focus On Them – Kemi Olunloyo Blasts Davido's Dad by Konquest:
Pakute:
Controversial media personality Kemi Olunloyo has reacted to a video by Davido’s father, Dr Adedeji Adeleke, about the paternity controversy involving his son.

Anuoluwa Adeleke, the musician's alleged daughter, had written a letter to him requesting a DNA test to confirm her paternity.

The case later became messy after Davido called out Anu’s mother, who also responded to his claims.

Davido’s father later held a press conference where he addressed the paternity issue, stating that Anu is not his granddaughter and sharing details of DNA tests that were allegedly conducted in the past.

Reacting to the video, Kemi Olunloyo blasted Dr Adeleke for allegedly dragging her autistic son into the matter.

According to her, she does not tolerate anyone involving her son in any controversy, claiming that she opened Anu’s Instagram account and later handed over the password to her mother before leaving Nigeria.

The businessman claimed she had a habit of telling lies and said members of her family had described her as mentally unstable and receiving psychiatric care.

He also stated that even her own family had distanced themselves from her and advised his son to ignore her.

Adeleke said in a video: “I’ve told David to ignore that woman. even her own son disowned her publicly. She has been lying and lying, using an account that does not belong to her, impersonating a child and the child’s mother.

She lies a lot. The family says she’s crazy. She’s receiving psychiatric help somewhere. Her own father said it. So I don’t care what she says.”

Following those remarks, Olunloyo fired back on Facebook.

She said the real reason she was being attacked was because she was exposing what she described as the truth about the case.

The journalist warned Adeleke to stop mentioning her son, whom she said is autistic, and accused him of turning attention away from what she alleged about Davido’s twins.

She wrote: “Deji told David to ignore me because my biological son has disowned me. Correction: because I’m exposing him and its the truth

“Deji Adeleke keep my autistic son off your mouth and focus on Davido’s autistic twins who cant talk.”
https://www.legit.ng/entertainment/music/1693538-kemi-olunloyo-blasts-davidos-dad-paternity-mess-i-gave-anus-mother-password/
This is just a distraction or an attempt to deflect attention from the REAL issue. The young man David Adeleke's former lawyer by the name Bobo Ajudua (Fred Ajudua's biological son) has already confirmed that ONLY 2 DNA tests were done NOT the FALSE claims made by Davido that 5 DNA tests were done.

Another round of paternity DNA tests are required from a certified and independent source ASAP so that this annoying paternity scandal which FIRST came into the public domain in 2014 can be settled once and for all.

Ayo Labinjo (Anu's biological mother) still insists till date (just like she did in 2014 in the presence of her mother and their now late lawyer as reported exclusively by Punch newspaper) that she NEVER SLEPT with any other male aside from that young guy called David Adeleke in Ibadan while she worked at a club after school. Ayo Labinjo's late father is a former Sociology lecturer of the University of Ibadan so she isn't a prostitute like Davido claims. Ifedayo "Freeze" Olarinde recently on his social media platforms also confirmed that Ayo Labinjo's father was his lecturer when he attended the University of Ibadan.

The new DNA test samples from David Adeleke and some of his cousins such as BRed (who were with him on that visit to Ibadan in 2013) MUST be properly done this time around and the DNA results MUST be made public as well to affirm that Davido is Anu's father OR NOT. Period.

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has said recent economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu are yielding positive results, arguing that food prices across the country are beginning to decline.

Oshiomhole made the assertion while responding to questions about what the President would present as key achievements ahead of a possible re-election bid. According to him, the impact of the reforms is already evident in the food market, where prices are reportedly easing after months of sharp increases.

“There are Nigerians now who are saying food is becoming too cheap,” Oshiomhole stated, noting that the development itself has generated fresh political arguments.

He added that some opposition figures have accused the federal government of deliberately manipulating food prices to force them down, a claim he described as proof that the reforms are working. “I even heard some opposition members saying the President is manipulating food prices to crash. So they are angry that the food prices are down,” he said.

The former Edo State governor maintained that the Tinubu administration’s policies, though initially difficult, were designed to stabilise the economy and improve living conditions for Nigerians in the long term.

Oshiomhole’s comments have sparked renewed debate, with supporters of the government citing improved market trends as evidence of progress, while critics argue that food affordability remains a challenge for many households.

— As a result of its lack of taste, I decided to buy the milk beans. Believe me I hadn't heard of these names(Honey and milk beans) until Monday last week.
— While I was picking and winnowing the Milk Beans yesterday, there was no smell. But as soon as I began to cook it, the smell began to erupt. I washed it with cold water four times before parboiling. After Parboiling, i still washed it like five times, still the smell didn't go away..
— I ran to a male neighbour of mine and ask him if he had had such experience with beans, he said no. He advised I threw them away.
I ran to an old woman within the neighbourhood, she said I could eat it. She even tested it. But I said I won't eat.
I threw the parboiled ones away.
I returned the remaining ones to the woman who sold to me. She didn't give me back my money and I didn't want to start dragging with her. Though she promised to do so later.

PhonesRe: Nigeria Grants Landing Permit To Amazon LEO by Konquest: 12:01am On Jan 20
DaddyJapan:
Nigeria grants landing permit to Amazon LEO

Amazon’s Project Kuiper constellation will deliver broadband and mobile satellite connectivity across Nigeria.

Nigeria has taken a significant step in expanding its satellite broadband sector by granting seven-year operating permits to Amazon’s low-Earth-orbit satellite business, alongside providers from Israel and Germany, opening the market to increased competition and new connectivity options.

The approvals position Amazon as a direct competitor to Starlink, the satellite internet service operated by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, which has rapidly grown its presence in Nigeria. The move signals a new phase in the country’s digital development and reflects broader efforts to improve broadband access and attract international investment.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) confirmed it has issued commercial satellite licences to Amazon LEO, formerly known as Project Kuiper, Israel-based NSLComm for its BeetleSat network, and Germany’s Satelio IoT Services. The permits allow the companies to deploy non-geostationary satellite systems over Nigeria starting in 2026.

Amazon was granted a seven-year landing permit covering the operation of its planned 3,236-satellite Ka-band constellation between February 2026 and February 2033. Under the licence, Amazon LEO will be able to offer fixed broadband services, mobile satellite connectivity, and links for moving platforms including aircraft and maritime vessels.

NSLComm received clearance to roll out its 264-satellite BeetleSat-1 constellation, while Satelio IoT Services was approved to deploy a planned 491-satellite Internet-of-Things network, although only one satellite from its system is currently in orbit.

The NCC said opening Nigeria’s market to multiple satellite providers is expected to speed up broadband expansion, particularly in remote and underserved regions where fibre and mobile networks have struggled to provide consistent coverage. The move also aligns with the government’s efforts to modernise its regulatory framework in line with global best practices.

Amazon’s entry comes as Starlink continues to reshape Nigeria’s internet landscape. By the end of Q2 2025, Starlink had reached more than 66,500 subscribers, making it the country’s second-largest internet service provider despite its relatively high prices, according to industry data. The rapid uptake highlighted strong unmet demand for reliable, high-speed internet in Africa’s most populous nation.

However, Starlink’s pricing has fluctuated amid currency volatility and rising import costs. Monthly subscription fees have climbed to about $38 from roughly $25 earlier in 2024, following regulatory action that prevented steeper increases. While coverage has expanded, affordability remains a concern for many households.
