While in Kano State yesterday, for the continuation of his
presidential campaign, President Goodluck Jonathan visited sacked CBN
Governor, who is now the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, in his
palace seeking his blessing in his re-election bid.
Jonathan congratulated Sanusi on his installation and condoled with
him and the people of the emirate on Bayero's demise. He told the
monarch he was in his palace to formally introduce himself, Vice
President Namadi Sambo and other PDP candidates in the election.
"I am here to seek your royal blessing and to reassure the people of
Kano that the PDP is totally committed to developing the country," the

Last Monday evening, President Goodluck Jonathan finally had a
one-on-one meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in
Abeokuta, Ogun state.
In attendance were two prominent pastors – Enoch Adeboye of the
Redeemed Christian Church of God and David Oyedepo of the Living Faith
Ministry.
Nature abhors vacuum. In the absence of a post-meeting press briefing
or "communique", Nigerians were left wondering what the meeting was
about.Some reporters quickly guessed that Jonathan came to beg
Obasanjo to campaign for his re-election bid, after Obasanjo had
persistently attacked him in the media for two years.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) machinery, known for its
super-active presence on social media, quickly did its own
construction of what was discussed. In a matter of minutes, it started
trending on social media.

President Goodluck Jonathan says his administration has transformed
the railway system, adding that the people of Lagos now enjoy train
rides in air-conditioned coaches.
The President said this in a Facebook post on Sunday.
Jonathan, who described the feat as a 'silent revolution' promised
that his administration would do more in the coming years.
He said, "A silent revolution is taking place in Lagos. Every day,
thousands ofLagosiansare escaping the hustle and bustle of Lagos
traffic by traversing the mainland in the new air condition Diesel
Multiple Unit trains.
"These trains were introduced by my administration as a fore taste of
our plan to develop an inter-city and intra-city high speed train
network for Lagos. The Federal Government has already signed a $1.5bn
contract for the construction of the Lagos-Ibadan Express Train.
"This project, when completed, will make it possible to live in Ibadan
and work in Lagos. This is progressing simultaneously with the $12bn
Lagos-Calabar coastal rail project. This project is 1,402km long and
will link Lagos to Calabar with stops at cities along the route. We
have good plans for Lagos, plans that will ensure that Lagos continues

The woman pictured above put her newborn baby in the middle of the
road and set the child on fire in New Jersey, on friday night.
Residents in the vicinity called the cops after seeing an unusual fire
on the road. The Police responded swiftly to the night call, found the
baby in flames and put out the fire.
The child reportedly was alive and breathing at the time she was flown
to a hospital in Philadelphia. She died about two hours later.
However, An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
Authorities believe the mother doused her baby with an accelerant then
set her on fire, although They do not have a motive yet. The woman was
taken into custody Friday night.
Dave Joseph, 45, of Pemberton Township told The Burlington County
Times that he saw a young woman get out of her car and light something
on fire in the middle of Simontown Road. He said the woman told him
she was burning dog waste.
Joseph said the woman appeared calm and soon tried to flee the scene,
but residents stopped her.
Prosecutor Robert Bernardi said details of the baby's birth were still
being investigated. The baby's age has not been disclosed. Its not

A former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has begged
former President Olusegun Obasanjo not to abandon President Goodluck
Jonathan ahead of the February 14 presidential election.
Daniel's plea came less than 24 hours after Obasanjo openly declared
support for the re-election of Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun,
who is a member of the opposition All Progressives Congress.
Daniel, while addressing members of the Peoples Democratic Party at
the inauguration of the Goodluck/Sambo Independent Support Team in
Lagos on Saturday, said Obasanjo gave the people of the South-South
region a sense of belonging by ensuring that Jonathan emerged as
vice-president in 2007 and as President in 2011.
He, therefore, begged Obasanjo to finish what he started by ensuring
that Jonathan completes his second term as President.
Daniel said, "Obasanjo should finish the job he started in 2011
because a job that is half-done is not done at all. It is the height
of injustice for Jonathan and the South-South people not to be allowed
to do a second-term. We, the Yoruba people are saying that for the
reason of equity, Jonathan should be allowed for a second term and
after that, power can shift to the North."
Meanwhile, the Presidency on Saturday said President Goodluck Jonathan
was ready at all times to appease former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
It also agreed with the ex-President that candidates in the
forthcoming general elections should be judged by their performance.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr.
Doyin Okupe, said this in an interview withSUNDAY PUNCH.
Okupe was reacting to a statement credited to Obasanjo that
performance, as against party loyalty, should be the overriding factor
in voting for candidates in the February elections.
Okupe said Obasanjo was correct in his submission, which he described
as statesman-like.
He said, "Obasanjo is right. I want Nigerians to vote for the next
President based on performance. Let Buhari tell us his performance and
Goodluck Jonathan should tell us his performance.
"Obasanjo is correct; there is nothing wrong with that. That is very
statesman-like of him.
"I want my party's candidates to win but this election is about
performance. Luckily, Buhari has been a Head of State before, it does
not matter how long he was in government. He was in government for 20
months; Murtala Muhammed was in government for six months and he
became a hero.
"It is not an excuse that 20 months is not enough. In 20 months,
Buhari showed clear attributes of indolence and incompetence. He did
not add any value to the nation. He did not achieve anything. All he
did was to be hard and harsh on people. He was busy harassing
southerners like Awolowo and Ajasin.
"If you put that side-by-side with the performance of Jonathan, he has
touched everything he met. All 24 airports have been refurbished. He
has brought railway back to life. There is substantial achievement in
power. We can only go forward, we can't come back."
When asked whether the President was still ready to mend fence with
Obasanjo, the presidential aide said Jonathan had tremendous respect
for the ex-President.
"This President is a liberal-minded President and he has a lot of
respect for Obasanjo. He has never hidden that. He believes that
Obasanjo is his political father, no matter whether they have
disagreements or not.
"The President is ready at all times to make peace and appease the
elderly gentleman," Okupe said.
Similarly, the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has
said it will not join issues with Obasanjo.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Prof. Wale Oladipo, stated
this in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Abuja on
Saturday.
He said, "Baba (Obasanjo) remains our leader and therefore we won't
join issues with him. We will continue to work with him and other
leaders of our party in Ogun State and Nigeria to achieve success.
"I can however assure you that Gboyega Isiaka is poised to win the
governorship election in the state with the support of other members
of our party in the state like the Minister of Agriculture, Dr.

A national Ijaw leader and elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark, has
called on the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party to
sack former President Olusegun Obasanjo from the party.
Clark, who spoke with journalists at his residence in Abuja on Friday,
accused the former Chairman of the party's Board of Trustees of
working with the opposition against President Goodluck Jonathan.
He said it was wrong for Obasanjo to be working for the candidate of
the All Progressives Congress, Maj.Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).
He alleged that Obasanjo was defending Buhari over the N25bn allegedly
unaccounted for by the Petroleum Trust Fund, which was headed by
Buhari during the military government of the late Gen. Sanni Abacha.
Clark said Obasanjo wants Jonathan to lose the presidential election
slated for February 2015.
He said, "Obasanjo is defending him (Buhari) because he wants APC to
win. How much corruption have you found in Jonathan that you are
calling him corrupt?"
Clark observed that Muslims and Christians must live together in the
country to hasten its development.
He said, "What is wrong with PDP? That man (Obasanjo) should not be
allowed to be in the party. You beg him all the time, (but) he has
made up his mind. He gathered APC women to abuse President Jonathan.
"If you're saying that a man you dissolved his committee (PTF) and
could not account for N25bn is not corrupt, (then) Buhari and Obasanjo
are the same. They are in a marriage of convenience just to remove
Jonathan (from office).
"Because Obasanjo is corrupt, he doesn't know what the definition of
corruption is. There is big trouble in this country when corrupt
people call others corrupt."
Clark said he had no confidence in the Independent National Electoral
Commission, alleging that its Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, was
biased against the return of President Jonathan to office.
"I have lost confidence in INEC. How can a university professor be so
biased and not want Jonathan to return for second term? It is so
disgraceful that he has allowed ethnicity and religion to take control

A furious fisherman tracked down and killed the 20ft crocodile that
ate his pregnant wife.
Demeteriya Nabwire went to search for firewood on the shores of
Nawaikoke in Uganda but villagers became worried when she didn't
return after several hours.
A search party was set up and they were horrified to find the pregnant
woman's slippers, bloody toes, fingers and a mobile phone at the spot
where she went missing.
It soon became apparent she had been eaten by a giant beast surfacing
from the river - the same 1,000kg creature had been blamed for the
deaths of six women and children who had disappeared in the past year.
So devastated husband Mubarak Batambuze of Kibuye village, went to the
local blacksmith and spent his savings on the sharpest spear possible.
He told Uganda daily newspaper New Vision: "I went to a blacksmith and
paid him sh20,000 (£4.65) so that he could make me a very sharp
spear."
Batambuze took his trusty new weapon down to the riverbank and managed
to find the 20ft beast near to where her remains were found last
Sunday.
The 56-year-old took his bloody revenge and hauled his catch up to the
shore with the help of five other fishermen.
He is now being hailed a hero by villagers for slaughtering the killer
croc, which has terrorised families for over a year.
A village spokesperson was also said to demand compensation from the
Ugandan Wildlife Authority for Batambuze's lost wife.
But officials said it's not part of their policy to pay out for people
killed by crocodiles and added they are currently capturing reptiles

boiling oil. The incident occurred while she was helping her Aunt,
living in the Ejigbo area of Lagoe State, to fry some pieces of meat
when she suddenly had an epileptic convulsion and fell into the
smoking oil. From that day onwards her life has become like hell,

at home that day and I didn't know when I felt dizzy and unconsciously

" I was later rushed to a nearby hospital, where I spent four months
before being transferred to the Burns Unit of the Lagos State
University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.While the hospital doctors were
battling to restore my health, my baby, Fatai, died."
"My child died because I could not breastfeed him. After his death, my
husband was no longer coming to the hospital to check on me and that
gave me some concerns. After several months, we decided to look for
him at their family house. I was told that he had died and his family
did not want to compound my woes, which was why they left me in the
dark."
"Right now, I also don't know where my mother is. She has left me for
years and I have lost all contacts with her. The only person I have
around me now is my uncle and my old father who visits once in a
while.
''I was selling ready-made clothes, but people were afraid of
patronising me because of my looks. This was why I started begging to
complement the little my uncle provides.''

Two Sheriff's deputies in Savannah, Georgia have been placed on
administrative leave with pay for "inappropriate actions" due to the
death of 22-year-old Nigerian student,Matthew Ajibade, who died in
their custody.
According to Savannah Morning News,Ajibade who suffered from bipolar
disorder, died in the isolation cell of a Savannah county jail.
He had been arrested for battery after the police were called over a
domestic incident.
Local news reports state that it was Ajibade's girlfriend who called
the police, and when they arrived; she told them he needed to go to
the hospital. However, a preliminary incident report on the arrest

One major song that has been getting a lot of airplay in 2014 and 2015
is Lil Kesh's 'Shoki' featuring Davido and Olamide.
It however looks like the airplay for the song on radio stations will
have to be reduced.
According to a memo to all radio stations by NBC, the song can only be
played between 10PM and 5AM due to the high number of foul impressions
and obscene representations.
