gabng:The vehicle is obviously salvaged. On a bright note it doesn't look like the salvage was from accident (Looks to me like it was a theft recovered vehicle). The dealer may not necessarily know. The odometer on the vehicle has also been rolled back. I don't think the seller is aware of it either. Looks to have happened long before it got to Nigeria. Can't blame it on the dealer either. That still doesn't negate the facts that it has odometer rolled back and salvage title either. Facts are facts. With all that, i am estimating that the car will have done almost 200,000 miles!!! I am not particularly crazy about a Galant with almost 200,000 miles on the mileage. Nor will i lose a moment of sleep if i didn't buy one. For my money, i would rather get a neatly Naija registered Camry before i get this particular car in question. That is just me. Happy Motoring. Good luck out there. |

[b]Don't hold your breath. The difference with changing the allowable year will make is not going to be much. You still buy the car the same as before. You ship the same as before. The only difference now is that it IS LEGAL to drive them in Lagos without the fear of police or customs. Its not as if the old cars are not being sold before in Nigeria. People bring them in all the time. The clearing cost is cheaper in Cotonue but you have to factor in the additional cost of crossing to Naija and plus bribe everyone which can sometime evaporate the "savings" I am watching with keen interest. Unless the clearing cost is drastically reduced, the prices will not be that much different. A typical 1996 Camry before sells for like N800-N850. Don't expect to all of a sudden be buying for N600. The seller here in the US don't really care about the rule change in Naija. He will sell for what he will sell for today or 4 months ago. Shipping company the same. As a matter of fact it cost about $150 more to ship to Lagos compared to Cotonue. Any way, i'm watching with keen interest. Good Luck[/b] |

If the fluid is not contaminated or dirty, i would see any reason not to top it. The fluid goes thru the system at a very high rate of pressure generated by the power steering pump. I would rather see you top it off and keep your peace of mind. My fear is that if the flush was done my someone incompetent, you will start having problems. But if you are sure your mechanic knows what he is doing, then flush it. Happy Motoring. |

jideyeye:I wouldn't mind buying the car AFTER A THOROUGH INSPECTION. The vehicle was repaired, registered and driven here for 3 years after the incident. I wouldn't be fazed about the accident. That is not to say that you shouldn't inspect the overall car as you would in any purchase. Just keep the accident at the back of your mind. It might even be a bargaining chip in your favor.
