txswat:You seem to be missing the point and i am not sure how much you know about body shops and body work. When a body shop cost a part, it wouldn't be the same price as that of what you will buy it at the dealership. A body shop will always mark up the part. It might take about 30 days/more for the shop to get reimbursed by the insurance on the work done. Meanwhile, they must pay the dealership pending the insurance payment hence the markup. Back to the bumper, there are many parts that goes into a bumper. The cover plastic (which is most likely what you bought), the steel core and the shocks that it gets bolted inside the body of the car. Believe me, you cannot get all those things for $250. The body shop will be more inclined to change it all (they make more cos of mark up) if its an insurance work as opposed to a private entity. They may be more inclined to save some parts for you as opposed to insurance cos they have deep pockets. Now you know. |
bfire:Let me weigh in on the issue of how/why insurance companies arrive at their estimate. Its not totally true that a simple damage MAY have a bigger problem hidden. It CAN be a simple problem. However in the US, insurance companies CAN ONLY buy replacement parts from the dealer. They cannot utilize a used part, no matter how good of a condition it's in. In the case of the pathfinder, the bumper has to be purchased from Nissan dealership. NO EXCEPTION! Otherwise they are breaking the law. However, there are new aftermarket bumpers (or used ones) that will work just fine manufactured by independent companies and that can pass the Dept. of Transportation requirements. However, if its being repaired by the insurance, it has to come from Nissan. Anyone else can use an aftermarket or used part. With that in mind, a blue book value of a 1999/2000 pathfinder is about $3000-$4000 max. The bumper alone from Nissan dealer might be almost $1,000. Add labor and other stuff. Its adding up very fast. Mind you, they have to either reimburse you or provide a car rental while the repair of going on. Which can be 1-2weeks depending on the shop. If you see, its not worth it for the insurance company, hence they rather salvage the car and walk away. Do your independent inspection and don't be afraid to buy a salvage car. Awaye |

Is the engine overheating? You might have a possible burnt gasket. Check the engine oil and see if its foamy or milky. If so, the gasket is gone. |

Hi, What's wrong with your post? A lot if you ask me. So you wanna sell a N4.5m car without pics? Or do you think you are the only one that has a 2010 Camry for sale in Nigeria? Car market is uber competitive these days, you have to be creative. The least you can do is provide all the info and pics to start with. Are you planning to send the car in Dec. or sending it now? If a buyer is ready now, why should they wait till December until you come home? Or is it because you have the only 2010 Camry in existence? My advise is that if you are ready to sell the car (available for sale) post the ad, and see what happens. Since you have a long lead (December) you shouldn't be in a hurry to sell. Unless of course the vehicle is not ready now to sell. ![]() May be you might just be looking at a prospect of buying and making some $$$ which is fine. Join the club, i would say. But do it right in the first place before you start wondering why you are not getting results. Just my 2 cents |
Available |
You failed to mention the most critical part: The tanker capacity!!! |
It amazes me how people come unto Nairaland expecting the car to be free. I am sure that if you can find the vehicle you are looking for cheap in your area, there will be no reason to Nairaland. While some people may be asking outrageous prices (You are not forced to buy) it amazes me how some buyers negotiate for cars in these forum. A seller can have a 2010 Camry for N1m, someone will still come along and offer N500k ![]() People will continue to be duped as long as they are looking for unreasonable prices. |
femajokeho: femajokeho:Pathetically puzzled? You want a 2005 Accord for 800k? Really? You must be seriously high! Even though its Naija used. Why you no go thief am sef? |
The problem is not availability but your price. You are more likely to get a 1997-1998 Pathfinder in your price range but not sure if you can get an Xterra. Good luck in your search |
The last time i checked, its an open market and a free country. Its not compulsory that you buy a car on Nairaland. You can buy in your area if you are not happy with what you see here. There is no point of getting upset with anything you see here. Lots of dealers and lots of cars are all over Nigeria ![]() |
Sorry to hear. At least she is safe |

Hi, I understand your explanation but you seem to be missing the point. I am talking about if you bring it in with all expenses paid. The total cost of landing in Lagos is what i am after. Since there is no CTN, then there is a level playing field. The choice or availability of cars in Cotonou has little or nothing on this issue. There can be 1,000 Camry's out there, the client cars about HIS car. I am still steadfast: COTONOU CARS WILL BE HIGHER IN COST IF ALL DUTY IS PAID |
Shagati:Don't be too quick to jump into conclusion. May be its Minibags ![]() |
Do not be fooled about what anyone tell you. THERE IS NO WAY TO IMPORT A U.S SPEC CAR THRU COTONOU TO NIGERIA AND BE CHEAPER IF YOU PAY ALL DUTY!!!! NO WAY!!! NO HOW!!!! Lets say for instance 2 identical cars from New York bought for same price. One ships to Cotonou, the other to Nigeria. The cost of shipping will be about the same cos its the same ship that is coming from the USA stops at Cotonou, Ghana, Lagos etc Same as you are traveling from Ibadan to Lagos. Everybody pays the same from Ibadan regardless if you drop at Redeem, Mowe, Berger or Ojota. The vehicle dropped at Cotonou will pay Cotonou duty which is cheaper compared to that of Nigeria. If the owner wants it delivered to Lagos LEGITIMATELY it pays the Nigerian Duty as well. Which EFFECTIVELY amounts to 2 duties paid (Cotonou and Nigeria) The other car come straight to Lagos and pay Nigerian Duty alone and its done. THE ONLY WAY COTONOU CAR CAN BE CHEAPER IS IF THE NAIJA DUTY IS AVOIDED. COTONOU WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO GET AWAY WITH THAT!!! The seller in New York doesn't care where you ship it to, he sells the same price whether to Nigeria, Ghana, Libya, South Africa etc The only thing that attracts Nigerian Buyers to Cotonou is the lower price. DON'T BE FOOLED!!! YOUR RIDE WILL BE SEIZED IF YOU DON'T PAY CORRECT DUTY!!!! All these agents will tell you different. And i know that there are lots of Cotonou agents here and i am waiting for them to say that i am wrong. |
You also need to specify: R model (Trailer head or Tipper?) CAT 950 (B or E or F ?)Jackhammer (which make/model or capacity) Don't be too vague Good luck in your search |
