Jose Mourinho has revealed that the quality in the players at Tottenham is the reason why he accepted the job to manage the club

Mourinho was announced as Tottenham’s new manager following Tuesday night’s sacking of Mauricio Pochettino.

He has since resumed and had his first training with the team. His first game would be on Saturday against West Ham.

The Portuguese explained, “I am excited to be joining a club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters,” as quoted by Independent UK.

“The quality in both the squad and the academy excites me. Working with these players is what has attracted me.

“I couldn’t be happier and if I was not as happy as I am, I wouldn’t be here. What can I promise? Passion – for my job but also passion for my club.

“It’s a privilege when a manager goes to a club and feels that happiness in relation to the squad that he’s going to have.

“These are not words of the moment. They are not words of me being the Tottenham Head Coach, these are words that I’ve told and I’ve repeated in the last three, four, five years even as an opponent.

“To play against Tottenham at White Hart Lane was always hard but beautiful. It was one of these places where I used to go with passion but also with respect.

“I always told about the club’s potential. I always told about the qualities of the players. I always told the magnificent work the club was doing.

“I really like this squad and looking to the younger players there is not one manager in the world that doesn’t like to play young players and to help young players to develop. There is not one.

“The problem is that sometimes you get into clubs where the work that is below you is not good enough to produce these players so I look to our history and you see that the Academy is always giving the talents that the first team needs. Of course I look forward to work with that profile.”

18-year-old Nigerian boy named Peter Arotiba from Kogi State, has been awarded the National Distinction and Merit Award by the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) for emerging overall best student in the 2018 examinations.
Arotiba, who is currently studying Medicine and Surgery at the University of Ibadan, graduated from the Nigeria Air Force Secondary School, Ikeja, Lagos State.

He was recognised alongside two others at the 57th Annual Meeting of the Nigeria National Committee (NNC) of WAEC, in Abuja on Thursday.

Members of the council are drawn from the Federal Ministry of Education and stakeholders such as representatives of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPPS), Polytechnics, Universities, Colleges of Education, National Union of Teachers and JAMB.

NAN reports that Arotiba had obtained distinction in all the eight subjects offered in the 2018 West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).


Speaking with journalists after the awards presentation, Arotiba said that achieving success was a function of so many factors, the chief of which was God’s grace and hard work.

“A lot of heroes, who have participated in building me up to whom I am today, instilled the spirit of excellence in me – my parents, my teachers and personal hard work.

“I have a natural passion for reading, so studying was not an issue to me. When you work hard and depend on God’s grace, one will never be disappointed.

“The sacrifice made to achieve this feat was a high level of discipline during examinations as I let go of other programmes I enjoyed and concentrated fully.

“I study ahead by studying during the holidays. Lazying around during the holidays and playing around with friends during holidays were some of the things I refused doing,” he said..

Miss Oluwabukunmi Adeagbo, who is currently studying Medicine at the University of Debrecen, Hungary came second while Prince Abiamamela Obi-Obuoha, now studying Mechatronic Engineering at the Afe Babalola University, came third.

WAEC also named the three overall best schools from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the 2019 WASSCE to include Loyola Jesuit College, Louisville Girls’ Secondary School and Stella Maris College, Abuja.
