THE PRESIDENT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
1. The aspirant has no godfather or election investor behind him or her
2. Must tell us his/her source of income and prepare to declare his/her assets.
3. Must promise that he/she will re-structure Nigeria
4. Must promise to fight corruption from the Babaginda years till date. This will include a continuous publication of recovered loot, the looter and how the recovered loot is re-channeled into the economy.
5. Give Nigerians stable supply of electricity within 3 years.
6. Must promise to review the salaries and emolument of federal legislators and executives in accordance with the law of Nigeria.
7. Must be ready to scrap the Senate and preserve only the House of Representatives.
8. Must not have held more than one political office in the past. We must do away with re-cycled office holders.
9. Must promise to ban health tourism abroad
10. Must promise to ban education abroad for the children of serving public office holders.
11. Declare all armed groups as terrorist groups (e.g the murderous herdsmen) and unban IPOB as a terrorist group. IPOB is not a terrorist group but we do not support that Nigeria should break.

Americans are drinking less soda, forcing beverage giants to diversify into healthier beverages and snacks.

With the report that Coca-Cola could be eyeing a deal with marijuana producer Aurora Cannabis, it seems legalized weed could be the boost beverage giants are looking for.

Americans have been consuming less soda in recent years as sugary drinks are increasingly demonized.

In 2006, soda sales by volume declined in the United States for the first time in 20 years. Every year since then, the decline has continued, with Coke and Pepsi brands falling 2% and 4.5%, respectively, by volume in the US in 2017, according to Beverage Digest.

As a result, beverage giants have been forced to diversify outside of soda.

Under the leadership of Indra Nooyi, PepsiCo has spent the last 12 years expanding into the snack and wellness space. By 2016, less than 25% of PepsiCo's sales were from soda, equal to sales from "naturally nutritious" brands like bottled water and unsweetened drinks. That was thanks in part to health-centric acquisitions such as German dairy company Theo Muller Group and lower-calorie soft drink Izze.

Coca-Cola has more recently made a number of deals the signal a growing interest in health-centric categories. Earlier this week, Coca-Cola announced it had acquired Australian kombucha maker Organic & Raw Trading Co. Other investments include sports-drink brand BODYARMOR, sparkling-water brand Topo Chico, and coconut-water brand Zico.

Now, the next step could be investing in legal marijuana.

As Business Insider's Jeremy Berke reports, legal marijuana is on track to become as big — or bigger — than the soda industry.

If marijuana is made legal nationwide in the US by 2030, the legal weed industry could generate $75 billion in sales by that year. In 2017, the soda industry brought in $76.4 billion in sales, Bloomberg reports.

Notably, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo aren't interested in marijuana as a way to get people high. Instead, they're interested in CBD, an ingredient in marijuana that could offer benefits such as reducing inflammation and promoting relaxation.

A deal between Coca-Cola and Aurora Cannabis could "broaden the reach of cannabis-­infused beverages into functional wellness categories," Wells Fargo analyst Bonnie Herzog wrote in a note to investors. CBD investments are in line with both Coca-Cola and PepsiCo's increasing interest in up-and-coming wellness beverages, like sparkling water and kombucha.

"The question is: Is it going to be something akin to energy drinks — a new category that is trendy at first, that actually grows into a meaningful long-term business? Or is it going to be sort of a fad?" Duane Stanford, the executive editor of industry publication Beverage Digest, told Business Insider.

If CBD-infused beverages are more than a fad, then they could be a way to boost sales as people continue to ditch soda. So, analysts say that Coca-Cola and PepsiCo are very likely to at least consider making deals with marijuana producers.

"Nobody wants to get left behind on the next big thing," Stanford said.

sri Lanka’s Hambantota Port was signed over to China on a 99-year lease because Sri Lanka could not repay Chinese loans it took out to build the port

Palpable fears heightened across Africa, last week, following a report of impending takeover of Zambia’s national power company by China after the Southern African country defaulted loan repayment.

While many saw the report as ominous event that could spread to other African nations whose leaders had approached China for aids and loans, some saw the report as a hoax.

For those who still need further evidence on China’s debt trap camouflaged as “harmless loans”, the manner in which Sri Lanka, a poor country in the South Asia, was robbed of its prized national asset by China would probably make Doubting Thomases have a change of thought about the Chinese unscrupulous economic ambition in Africa.

Last year September, Sri Lanka formally handed control of a strategic port on its southern coast of Hambantota to China as part of a 99-year lease agreement.

The agreement was struck under a $1.1 billion deal which the Sri Lankan political opposition and trade unions called a “sell-out” move, Chinese firms now hold a 70 per cent stake in Hambantota Port.

The $1.3 billion port was built with loans from a Chinese state-owned bank and opened in 2010. But, the Sri Lankan government struggled to repay the debt, with the project incurring heavy losses. Along with loans taken out for other infrastructure development projects, Sri Lanka’s debt to China was put at $8 billion.

“With the Hambantota port agreement, we have started to pay back the loans,” Sri Lankan Prime Minster, Ranil Wickremesinghe, said during a handing-over ceremony in parliament.

He added: “Hambantota will be converted to a major port in the Indian Ocean”.

Chinese firms, under the state-controlled China Merchants Port Holdings company, now hold a majority stake in the port as part of a joint venture with the state-run Sri Lanka Port Authority.

The lease agreement, which was signed in July, last year, also included wide-ranging tax concessions for the port and a 32-year tax break for the Chinese firms.

For its part, China has paid Sri Lanka an initial sum of $300 million, with further payments to come; though exact time to pay the balance remains unclear.

International reaction to the port handover focused on China’s increasing geopolitical ambitions, while locals have voiced fears of a loss of Sri Lankan sovereignty. When the agreement was signed, local MP Namal Rajapaksa, tweeted: “Government is playing geopolitics with national assets? #stopselling SL”

Also on Twitter, Brahma Chellaney, an Indian author and political analyst, described the deal as “debt-trap diplomacy”, saying Chinese loans are often given in exchange for strategically important physical assets which can be “collateralized”.

For China, acquisition of Hambantota is part of its longer-term ‘One Belt, One Road’ (OBOR) project. Other OBOR projects include a $10.7 billion plan to develop the Omani town of Duqm into an industrial city, which will transform the dusty port into a major transit hub.

Closer to Hambantota will be Pakistan’s Gwadar port, which Beijing is developing as a key part of the $55bn China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Along with Sri Lanka, China has added the Maldives in the Indian Ocean to its growing sphere of influence, completing a free-trade agreement at the end of November.

Hosting Maldivian president Abdulla Yameen in Beijing, China’s leader Xi Jinping said: “China deems the Maldives as an important partner to building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road”.
