Education / Is Global Warming Really Strange As They Say? by lacucaracha: 10:56pm On Sep 15, 2019
Global warming, green house effect or climate change, which ever term you choose to settle for, is no doubt a trending environmental issue.

It has find its way into modern day vocabularies, attracted the interest of scientist, business tycoons and many concern and rational human.

All this is but as a result of its influence on human sustainability and survival. The suvival of our species and life in general, on earth is on the line.

But you would be surprise, to hear that global warming is not really strange. The earth as experienced episodes of global temperature change.

Global cycle or glacier cycle is a phenomenon that occurs every 20,000 to 100,000 years, that's pretty long you know. During this cycle, the earth experience a drastic change in temperature were sea levels may either drop or rise, glacier may retreat or increase. This cycle often play a major role in evolution of lifeforms on earth.

So it's a really good thing, since evolution is the mother of biodiversity which translates to increase in the number of life on earth.

Currently, about 10 million species of animals has being discovered and documented by scientific thanks to this "glacier cycle".
The problem with this contemporary climate change is that, we (man) are fast forwarding this natural cycle.

The implications is that the biosphere ( the thin layer of the earth were live exist) has not gain full maturity to withstand and recover from any climate change event.

This is sad if you think of it, and that's the more reason we need to take drastic step and measures like reducing the use If fossil fuel, greening the earth, investing on renewable energy and perhaps this evil called climate change can be abated.

Let's help save our climate.

Religion / I Thought I Was Condemned To Hell by lacucaracha: 8:49am On Jul 04, 2019
My story of coming of age is one filled with many struggles. Several times I resulted to self-help, affirmations and iron discipline but all this did nothing to save me. It took years for me to finally see 'light' at the end of the dark tunnel. But I must admit that it is not a story one would fancy to share, but for the many lessons there in and perhaps some men may themselves be entangled in similar problem, one must share.
I was blessed with the gift of being born into a Christian family. However, it took a lengthy while to become one myself. It didn't take me a long while though to begin to figure out how to commit and carass sin. At a tender age, I had learn how to fond the reproduction organ of the opposite sex. In the darkness of the night as with most evil acts, was when this sinful activity of mine was mostly perpetrated. I could say I was a 'nocturnal sinner'. As I began to grow in age, I grew worse in my sinful attics. In secondary school I became master of pornography and masturbation which I struggled with for 10 years. It all started with a little peeping from the phone screens of classmates and then I graduated to the addiction level.
Many times I desired to be free but it ended up to be mere wish. A minute I will pray for God's pardon, the next minute I will be back to my vomit of sin. Depression, frustration, disappointment, sorrow and sadness were my regular experiences. Even though I was top of my class at University level, which is expected to make one happy and fulfilled, yet I wasn't. It didn't take long before nauseating thoughts like suicide, atheism and so on began to cloud my mind. The more I try to be loose, the firmer the sin seems to grip me. I thought I was condemned for hell.
It was on a Wednesday that I finally saw the 'light' after the long walk in the dark. It was a sinful day as always. Watched pornography and masturbated as usually. Then I decided to watch a film perhaps just to feed my eyes and take a shot break from pornography. It was in watching this film tittled "17 Miracles" that I began to cry for my sins. Tears flowed down my cheek. Watching the live of those good men and women who though in lack and passing through near death situations were firm to there Lord. There love for Christ broke me. I couldn't hold It and it didn't take long that I began to pray to the Lord to help me, to deliver me and forgive my sins. Before now I heard listen to zillions of sermons, attended several crusades and retreats but it will be a film not more than two hours that will bring me to Calvary. I got something that day. It was Salvation. I was delivered and now I'm free to do God's will. I now have the peace of God in my heart.
You may be in my shoe and about throwing the hatchet, It is for you this was written. Jesus wants to save you too. If you will hand over your sins to Him, Jesus will surely save you. Tomorrow may be too late.

Travel / Scarcity Of Commercial Vehicles; A Growing Concern In Eke, Enugu State by lacucaracha: 6:24pm On Sep 26, 2018
Scarcity, they say is the limited availability of a "commodity", which may be in demand in the market. In this case however the commodity of concern is "commercial vehicles". I must quickly bring to your notice that I'm not a transportation economist, I'm only a common road-user or commuter as you may call it. I live around Eke Obinagu in Enugu State. A well known resort for choiced green vegetables(Spinach, Water leaf, Ugwu, just name them), meat, fish and a whole lots of food stuffs. All thanks to the popular Eke Market located around the area, which is arguably one of the biggest market within Enugu metropolis.
Recently, I observed the scarcity or difficulty in boarding a vehicle to transit from point A to point B. I would want to discard the thought of hoarding or artificial scarcity as it is also being called as the possible reason though. In my curiosity and crave for possible or scientific reasons behind the scarcity, I came up with this mini-research and will be summarizing my findings in this piece.

CAUSES OF VEHICLE SCARCITY AND POSSIBLE SOLUTION

Fuel Scarcity
Fuel Scarcity is one the major reasons behind scarcity of vehicles and It is not a strange phenomenon in Nigeria. It is an untamed monster which as continue to raise it's ugly head in Nigeria dated far back as the early 1970s. Several efforts have been made to diagnose the causes of fuel scarcity. Factors such as lack of functional infrastructure, high taxes and duties, absence of refineries and depots, growing demand for oil, hoarding, excessive corruption and mismanagement, oil pipeline vandalism, and activities of oil cabals amongst others are the few reasons behind fuel scarcity. However, for the past few months, there as being no record case of fuel scarcity in Enugu and the pump price for motor spirit as remained relatively unchanged since it was increased from 86 naira to 145 naira nationwide.

Explosion of Exchange Rate
The abnormal fall of the naira to dollar as consequently affected the exchange rate of naira in the international market. Government refusal or reluctance to intervene in the dilemma as made matters worse. This will invariably lead to hike in fuel prices, hike in transport fares and scarcity of Commercial Vehicles as they are all mutually exclusive to the explosion of the exchange rate of naira in the capital market. However, despite the fall of naira, prices and cost of transportation has remain considerably unchanged. It is important that I bring to your notice that the upstream and downstream that as characterised our naira as reduced reasonably.

Profitability
This may come like a surprise. Profitability is the primary goal of all business ventures; transportation business inclusive. Without profitability, the business will not survive. Profitability is measured with income and expenses. Income is money that an individual or business receives in exchange for providing a good or service or through investing capital. Expense or expenditure on the other hand is the outflow of money to another person or group to pay for an item or service, or for a category of costs. If income is less than or sometimes equal to the expenses, chances are that, that the business will crumble or fold-up. In Enugu however, transportation business is very lucrative and profitable. It is no surprise in Enugu that commercial vehicles driver can make up to 15,000 naira profit a day, especially at night when the fares are always quadruple ( For instance, Holy Ghost to Eke will cost you 100 naira at day time, but you wait and let 10pm catch up with you, you will have to pay 1500 naira, but if you are lucky and you meet a driver with conscience, you can beat the price down to 1000 naira). It is then obvious, that Profitability isn't the reason behind the ongoing vehicle scarcity.

Population Increase
The Demographics population of Enugu State is 3,267,837 people at the census held in 2006 (estimated at over 3.8 million in 2012). Enugu is divided into 17 LGAs, three of which are the most developed and are often know as 'Enugu town' ( Enugu-East, Enugu-South and Enugu-North) that is not to say others are less developed. For instance, Nsukka( thanks to Nigeria's first indigenous university,University of Nigeria) Nkanu are few of the other developed LGAs. The population of Enugu town should be around 600,000 people. However, there as being recent influx of people from various parts of the country to this place. Recently I met a 'keke man' who told me he is from Kano. Enugu is a great, beautiful and cool place to be. It is no more news that Enugu State is in the hands of God courtesy of Rt. HON Ifeanyii Ugwuanyi a.k.a Gburugburu. The increase in population may be a reasonable explanation for the vehicle scarcity.
Lack of Alternative Mode of Transportation
In Enugu, although this is the case in virtually all parts of Nigeria, the only means of intra state transportation is road transport. Expansion and diversifying public transport systems will reduce the volume of vehicles on the road, reduce the consumption of automotive fuel and invariably reduce the difficulty faced with transportation. Train transportation has being deaden in most part of the country and it's revival and resuscitation is an elusive dream for many Nigerians. The railway lines should be rehabilitated and the trains should be back on track for transportation of people, goods and commodities which will reduce the burden on road transportation. It will surprise you to know that at least 55 countries in the world as railway networks, most of whom are developed countries, United Kingdom inclusive.

Farming Season
How do you juxtapose vehicle scarcity and agriculture? You may be asking. Wait let me explain this elusive relationship between the two. As you all know, about 70% of Nigerians are farmer's (subsistence farmer's) who rely heavily on human labour. Some of this drivers also venture into farming as a means to argument there income. Since the federal government is clamouring for diversification of economy. Every one is searching for a way of getting more than one stream of income. It's obvious this is farming season, thanks to the rain and weather conditions which is relatively ideal for crops to thrive. These growing trend may be one of the factors responsible for vehicle scarcity.

Bad Road
Nigeria has the status of a developing country where road facilities are grossly inadequate to carter for the teeming population of road users. There are many potholes and detours on most Nigerian roads and this means that vehicles keep breaking down so that on many of Nigeria's roads emergency mechanics have sprung up to assist stranded commuters sometimes with disastrous consequences. Apart from disrupting the smooth flow of traffic, the dug up roads in the city are also adding to the financial burden on citizens. A very good example is at Abapka junction, the road condition there is very bad, although the state government are doing there best but it's not enough. I remember boarding a vehicle to Naira triangle few kilometres before Abakpa junction. Once the driver knows that you are going to Abakpa junction or your destination is after the junction, he will quickly ignite his car and zoom off leaving the commuters startled. That's how bad the road is and to me it is the number one culprit or suspect behind the scarcity of Commercial Vehicle in Eke, Enugu. Some of the causes of these bad road conditions are Operation of heavy duty, Effects of weather conditions, unstable ground and poor drainage, Wrong construction activities, Construction materials and methods, poor workmanship and inadequate maintenance. These brings me to the end of my mini-research.
