What does gele mean sef? It means 'cut extra' or extra-cut! The tradition of gele came with Yoruba from well-source at the East. At this place its fashionable or customary to have veil to protect oneself against windstorm and against sunburn, so gele started first as iborun (neck cover) or ibori (meaning headcover).

At home in Africa, the Yoruba men found fila, cap, and iborun became permanent women things that has survive as Gele. Ibori is for men, maybe its turban of Cheiks of old. Albeit, Yoruba priests still spot this, and they call it Saki. Sounds like Sheik or Sarkin. Sheik in Yoruba is known as Seriki. Though Beduine, it can still be comprehensive in Yoruba as se-ri-ki: can be reverence when seen. Of course, saki is like cloth with withish, intenstine- , brush- or towel-like surface. It makes us feel good that we have confidence than some other of our own folks. Nasalizing or mimicking, do you have it in the dictionary? Is it only peculiar to Nigerians? what does that change?

It is not who you imitate or how you imitate anyone that change a thing about you. Great people don't tell on others. Great people talk of content of character, not some impressionists idiosyncrasies. Know what those folks really want to do: "impress" their listener, the (your) white folks. I know say one day our history will echo our fine historical traditions, then we will meet all the Pot manufacturers whose terracotta glass and bead ceramic company west Africa, reg. 1000 B.C. shape west African history. Except the pots were old sacred objects brought from somewhere, or the artifacts were indeed our ancestors. even so, they left behind worthwhile info for us in different cryptic forms.

Bussy day. But then I think of this word: 'Aro' and its usage in Yoruba historiographical lexis. Observe: Ilaro, Ashero, Oro, Ijero, Iworo (ajidho), oworo(nshoki), etc. All these place names invoke the root word 'ro' which has to do with thinking, intellect or 'people skill' -ero.

But to whom does this term pertain in the annals of Yoruba liturgy? Yes, it pertains to Great Oshun, our matriarch. So it is said 'Osun Oshogbo Oroki (that's the word, oro-ki) Asala'. Fine. Here we go with shout-out to mama Africa: Oore Yeeye o!
