Health / Re: Swollen (Expanding) Of The Testis Of Newly Born Baby. Pls Advise. by LadyWinona: 3:15am On Oct 01, 2011
These are d facts. The testis functions best in temp lower than that of the body hence its position in a scrotum situated outside d body. Most hernias which by the way is what your son has, is due to part of the intestine entering the scrotum. The intestine has a higher temp than what d testis is comfortable wit. Delay in making a quick decision can lead to sterility. There are of course other complications but the above is sure to get ur attention faster. The earlier, the better

I had posted a similar story in Chaircover's thread on wife battery. It.s time we women spoke up. We have to let our voices be heard. Like debrief said, you don't know what it.s like till you go thru it. I want to take an active role in seeing this curbed in our society and wouldn't mind donating some funds to see this project start off. Our generation should pls speak up and save our daughters, sisters, and many faceless women from this.

NRI PRIEST:

@winona,am deeply srry my sister, during PREGNANCY? Dont u have brothers ? this is very disturbing to say the least, even my neighbor will not get away wif such,
AM REALLY SRRY MA SISTER.
Thanks. I am up this late cos my son is having a fever and i'm tepid sponging. About your proposal on the woman's brothers beating the man up, u forget that not everyone has brothers and in my case, my brothers are too little to attempt such if ever they will. Ignorance they say can kill. I still don't know the law's stand on wife battery. I have asked and noone seems to ve a definite, clear cut answer. I am determined to partake in d change that will curb this ill in our society even if it means speaking out of my experience so that other women can be encouraged to stand against this. It can only start from somewhere.

This is one of the reasons i love Nairaland. It's a place where one can share and draw from one's experience. My husband started beating me when i was 5 months pregnant with our first child. I left him thinking he would come and apologise but he didn't. Worse, his mom and dad supported him and at a point my parents started singing along d same tune, all telling me it.s part of marriage and i should learn to forgive. I did just that. The second beating is one that I'll never forget, his hands on my neck strangling d life out of me, the slaps, kicking all wit my kids screaming at him to stop, which he didn't for well over an hour. I was kicked out to sleep by d staircase before phonecalls were made by my dad to forgive yet again presuming it's my fault i led my husband to such level of anger. The next day, i called a lawyer, telling him i wanted to know d law's stand on wife battery. I never got my answer, rather he went on to tell me how Jesus loves me and how i should endure and have patience cos he'll will change. Well, he didn't. I got beat up in the same gruesome pattern wit him taunting me that i can do nothing about it and that if i didn't like it, i can pack my things and leave to my parents' house where i will be forever scorned by my relatives n shamed for having a failed marriage. I called a different lawyer this time, one who didn't know me and was involved in abuse to women. She adviced me that my husband will never stop his abusive behaviour till i do something about it, encouraging me to report it to d police. It was when i was preparing my schedule to do just dt about 3 weeks ago, that my husband in his usual rage was about to hit me but this time, i had locked myself in one of the rooms wit d kids and refused to open d door. He told me that my option was to either open d door or pack my things and get out of his house d next day. I chose d later. It.s been 3 weeks now, i'm in my parents' house. I am in a state of trying to forge a life for myself and my kids. I know d future will be rocky but i'm determined to face it and conquer it for all it.s worth. If there's anything dt gives me any confidence at all, it is that i'm well educated and have a job that gives me about a quarter of a million naira a month which wit the coming years can only get higher. As 4 reconciliation, if it does happen, then there'll be some ground rules but for now, let's face each day at a time.
Celebrities / Re: Charlie Sheen: My Hero! by LadyWinona: 8:29am On Mar 11, 2011
Completely adore this guy and is it strange that i find his meltdown entertaining? By the way, had read this morn that he was fired from his hit show 'Two and a half men' and what does he do? He sued the b.a.s.t.a.r.d for $100 million dollars citing it's illegal for firing him while sick. That's my baby!!! It's only Charlie that will call drinking gazillion bottles of booze and Zap.i.n.g p.o.r.n stars as being sick.

Really can't believe this is all there is to making akara. What about the part where after grinding d beans, u turn in a mortar for a while before frying to allow air in it?
Family / Re: Creative Disaster! by LadyWinona: 5:49pm On Mar 07, 2011

Family / Creative Disaster! by LadyWinona: 4:24am On Mar 07, 2011
This happened yesterday and tot i should share. I had woken up with my day all planned. My family will go to church and i'll treat them to a rare dish: akara and plaintain with pap. While most of us will wonder how in d world is that food rare, well, in my family it is cos most mornings, we just eat bread and secondly, i have no idea of how to make akara. So, i started by washing the skins off my brown beans, grinded it and proceeded to turn it in d pestle(stil can't figure out y this is done). At that moment, i had a brilliant idea, since the bean balls rises on frying, i can aid in this simple process by adding baking powder, after all, everyone knows dt baking powder makes things bigger, and so i added the baking powder, and other ingredients. I was feeling pretty good with myself and had imagined my family at the dining table admiring my big, beautiful brown akaras. That thought was shattered when i started frying the bean cakes, all i can think of while staring at my pot of oil was that the law of diffusion was surely taking place here. The bean had scattered in d oil down to its last molecule and worse refused to turn brown. I refused to believe what i was seeing, and blaming it on the pot i had used, changed to a frying pan and the same thing happened. My husband on passing through the kitchen stopped for some seconds to stare into the frying pan and kept walking without uttering a word. I never attempted to fry anymore after that. I must confess that i forced my kids to eat the disaster i created because though it looks nothing like akara, it sure taste like it. I had called it scrambled beans, a delight known in asian countries and just like that, ordered them to start eating. A part of me felt bad but hey, i watch FOOD NETWORK and people invent new dishes there on an hourly basis. This is my new dish, my creative idea, and though whipped up by accident, is perfect when put inbetween two slices of bread and eaten with a hot tea. That my friends, is how u deal with a cooking disaster( PS: My husband refused to eat my creative genius, MEN!!)
