It's sad a lot of you 2d guys are based in Abuja coz mehn, you sure would've been very handy for a project I'm about to commence. If only the delivery time wasn't so short! |
[b]@Adamu:[/b]Bros, I dey o. Actually, I've been 'cooking-up' some new stuff that I'll be unveiling soon, so be on the look-out. I'm quite inspired by your persistent doggedness in pushing your work and putting it out there, that's the kind of spirit the industry needs to grow. Keep the fire burning. |
@xothermik: Happy to be back my brother. Yes o, like I said earlier, the Cintiq is definitely the FUTURE for Classical animators like myself and digital illustrators alike; that badboy literally does WONDERS! You can never go wrong with WACOM products, quality-wise -- that's for sure. Now as per the cost, I believe it's $2000usd (or roughly =N=320k naira). So there you have it, start saving up! ![]() |
@AdamuW: Congrats on the milestone, bro. Keep making us proud! |
Great to know you guys are still holding it down for 2d-animation, keep the fire burning guys. Btw, I just ordered a Wacom Cintiq 21ux, and I expect it'll arrive from the U.S in less than a week. I believe that BEAST will be a game-changer for me coz, it's the FUTURE of Tra-digital animation (especially for 'Traditional/Classical' animators like myself)-- and boy is it e-x-p-e-n-s-i-v-e! Can't wait for it to arrive soon enoff for my next commercial project. You can check out the Cintiq in action on youtube and the following links: http://www.youtube.com/embed/oE2APo_EORQ http://inklingstudio.typepad.com/chronicles/2006/07/21st_century_an.html http://www.wacom-asia.com/casestudy/case/animated-film-dayo-made-cintiq-powered-animation-studio |
Thanx a lot, bro. |
@Ibaku: Bro, pls where in Lagos did you purchase your smartcard? Won't mind the dealer's phone number, if possible. And does the dealer have smartcards that can unlock/unscramble Showtime/OSN stations on a strong srt4663x decoder, and also, like how much do these cards cost? Your response will be greatly appreciated, thanx. |
I once fell a victim of those fraudsters too, back in 2009 (the pain's still fresh in my mind). Was duped to the tune of =N=80k after changing $1000 usd -- I almost cried that fateful day. Mine happened right infront of the Tantalizers fast-food restaurant at Allen junction. Didn't realize I'd been duped till I got into the bank to deposit the naira notes; at first I thot they used 'jazz' on me. The fraudsters had disappeared by the time I went back there, but right there and then I predicted that those boyz would one day mess with the wrong folks and be seriously dealt with. |
@George_D: Many thanx, chief. My only problem now is the implementation of your suggestions. My dish-installer lives in Ogun state and seems way too busy to find time to come 'service' my dish/fta. Are you aware of any competent person (preferably in Lagos) that could help me in this respect? Thanx in advance. |
@GEORGE-D: Chief, I'm new here but I've learned enoff from your posts to understand that you're well-versed on FTA matters, therefore I'd like to think you can be of help to me. I have a 3m fibre dish (I'm located at Ikeja, Lagos) pointed at NILESAT. About 2-months ago, my Dubai-One, Mtv-Arabia, Bloomberg tv, City7 tv, and all other channels on that tp suddenly disappeared! At first I thot the tp's had perhaps migrated to the new Nilesat 201 sat, however, I noticed that you mentioned in an earlier post that you receive those channels on your 3m dish, so here I am asking myself -- how come? Is it that I need to upgrade to a more powerful/better lnbf, or something? Also, I'm considering ordering the Technosat HD decoders (from Dubai) advertised on MBC stations in order to receive the MBC HD channels, but someone advised me not to bother coz HD signals/frequencies are generally weak down here in Southern Nigeria, please what's your take on that submission? I currently use a Strong 4663x decoder. I'd really appreciate your response. My email addy is lafemanimation@yahoo.com. |
Osun set to provide 127,000 jobs •Signs N60b pact with Korean investors By Gbenga Faturoti Correspondent, Osogbo Osun State government on Thursday signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Korean investors, Synctop Corporation Limited, for the establishment of $400 million (N60 billion) agricultural company in the state. Under the arrangement, the project is expected to generate 127,000 employment and boost the economy of the state when it takes off in 90 days. It would be recalled that the investors, led by Mr Moon Kyungsoo, early last month presented a proposal to invest in agriculture in the state to the tune of $400 million with the state providing 10 per cent counterpart fund of the total amount (N6 billion). Aregbesola described the signing of the agreement as historic, as he was able to bring investor to the state within his short stay in office without extra kobo of the state being spent, except the cost of the pen and the ink with which the agreement was typed. According to him, “My joy is predicated on two clear platforms. The first is the prospect of generating 127,000 employments when this project kicks off. I have no doubt that this project would go a long way in tackling the monster of unemployment in our country, particularly our state. Even for that alone, no effort will be spared by us to ensure that this project works. “Secondly, my joy is the promise of boosting the economy of the state. If there is anything this agrarian state requires badly, it is the possibility of using this primary engagement of our people to drive its economy. I am more than expectant in looking at how our collaboration will bring about this and I believe that this will work successfully”, the governor hoped. Aregbesola noted that the state was not just going into the agreement because it desires it, saying that all technicalities, procurement evaluation and other specified government procedures have all been fulfilled. In government, he said, no matter how promising a proposal might be, it must be scrutinised and approved by all the government agencies involve in the civil service before one can beat his chest effective process had been followed. The governor added that “I am happy to say to the whole world that this is not just a question of running through ones desire, but all arms of government that should look at this critically looked at it and the Solicitor-General even confirmed that it has passed the acid test of all the arms that should look at it”. “We are equally joyful that we do not have to go round the world in a mindless and reckless push for inventors as it was done by some people here for seven and a half years and nothing was brought except debt”, he reiterated. While promising that the state would meet its obligations of the agreement, he enjoined the investors to also be faithful to the state and discharge their responsibilities under the agreement, just as he called on the people of the state that would benefit from the agreement to discharge their responsibilities as law abiding, responsible, decent and reliable citizens. Speaking earlier, the linkage between the state and the investors, Dr Adebayo Adewusi confirmed that once the government fulfills its obligation, the project would take in the state within the next 90 days. Describing the signing of the agreement as the most important aspect of the project, Adewusi urged the state government and the Koreans not to derail from the seriousness they have given the project so far. http://independentngonline.com/DailyIndependent/Article.aspx?id=36478 |
@AdamuW & zPixel: Noted, and points well taken. Thanx guys! |
Dolemite or whatever , you’re entitled to your opinion , infact u don’t even have to be right sef to express yourself, coz just like a buttthole everyone’s got an opinion, but atleast make your opinion count by exhibiting some basic grasp of the subject matter lest you begin to sound like a whinning biatcsch which is what u’re sounding more like. First of all, your dislike of my animation doesn’t add nor take away anything from my life, I’ve gotten paid for the job and my client’s satisfaction is my utmost concern, u so you can whine all you want bro. To my mind, u’ve not mentioned anything that remotely suggests that you know anything about the animation production pipeline nor what it entails, yet you’re blindly criticizing the effort that birthed your object of criticism. That, atleast to my mind, abysmally discredits your opinion, even though you’re still entitled to it. Ironically, this same animation you and your inconsequential cohorts are passionately knocking has been well received internationally; I recently got an offer to direct an animated series from a 2-D studio based in Durban, S.A on account of this same animation. Also, over the weekend I met with an Egyptian professor (who’s on a visit to Nigeria for the recently concluded AMAA Awards – his animation narrowly beat mine to the Best Animation award/prize at last year’s AMAA Awards), he lectures animation at a university in cairo and he remarked, upon seeing this work, that even his animation does not move as well as mine, and that he once had to decline a job from Europe coz the style and standard of animation requested by the client was more like mine, as opposed to his more limited-animation/flash-like style. Even better sef, my client has made it clear that more work is surely coming my way within weeks sef. So perhaps u can now understand why your opinion ain’t worth diddly squat! But you’re free to continue your campaign bro, while I keep counting bank funds. SOJ and Adamu, you guys are my inspiration, moreso coz you’re well established in the BUSINESS-SIDE of this production game, unlike some of these guys who think all they need to succeed in life is watching cartoons and romanticizing the mechanics and technicalities of motion, without an iota of experience on the field. I remember my first meeting with SOJ, he was the first person to make me realize that in the production bizness, most clients can indeed be RUTHLESS (to borrow from my brother Adamu). I recall u (SOJ) asking me how long it’ll take me to do a minute animated commercial and my response was something like a month, to which your gently retorted that clients will almost NEVER give me that much time. That right there was my baptism. Since then experience has reinforced that lecture ever more clearly. I’ve actually lost uncountable jobs that would have paid me good money coz I kept harping on ‘more time for quality’ bullshyntt, but I’ve learned (even though the hard way) that these ppl just want results in terms of delivery and meeting deadlines, quality is secondary (not that it doesn’t matter, but they’re willing to sacrifice that if you can atleast do an o.k job in record time!) over time that I had to come up with a system’ll enable me work faster and not loose these jobs, even though at the expense of some quality. If the clients r so concerned about quality, they wouldn’t mind going to PIXAR animation for the job – a job that’ll prolly run for just a few months on air before it becomes old -- if only for bragging rights. For me, I got responsibilities, and I gotta make money, and if animation is not gonna bring me money then you can bet that I’ll switch to something more profitable in a heartbeat! I actually have a five-minute short in the pipeline, a pilot actually, which is a culmination of intense efforts on my part to pitch an idea to one of the Old generation banks (it took me years to even get an audience), thankfully they bought the idea and actually commissioned the pilot, though not for as much as it could’ve been but I’m willing to make the sacrifice for now. The hope is the pilot will give birth to a kid’s series. They saw the pencil tests and LOVED IT. I met a fellow Nigerian animator who has been working an animated short since 2006 (five years ago), very good animator, yet he’s only achieved 4-minutes of the project since then! Even Disney spends YEARS developing and producing their cartoons. That’s just to give you an idea of how long it can take to do a thoroughly good job. I know enoff American animators who spend years on their animated shorts (5-6minutes length) just coz they want the best quality obtainable, so what r we talking about? Guys, I tell you right now that it’s not easy staying in bizness in this country, especially if you’re doing what I’m doing. SOJ (and probably Adamu) has been at it for way much longer so he knows what I’m talking about. For the rest, sorry if you’re disappointed but like Tupac said, “that’s the way it is”. |
A big thanx 2 all for ur critiques and commendations. I had merely 5 days 2 deliver d job - as in, There was no time 2 plan or nothing, just got d brief/script and pretty much had 2 start animating staightahead. Say wat u like but dat job gulped over a thousand drawings and is a resul t of 5 nerve-racking days and sleepless nites. D client didn't care how long it took as long as d deadline was met and thank God I managed 2 deliver d job o. In d end I didn't/dont think its my best job yet but my clients at abuja were ecstatic about wat they saw and immidiately commissioned a second one which I only completed and delivered 2 days ago. Blieve it or not, dis gig is definitely a gamechanger 4 me coz I made GOOD MONEY and CONNECTIONS in 'high places' with even brighter prospects 4 d future. Adamu has prettymuch summed it all. If u gonna make a living outta advertising d client's deadline is lawn and just pray he's happy - which is mighty fine 2 me. Animation is business as much as it is art and 4 me I gat a wife and family 2 feed so it aint all abt fancy drawings and movement, d jobs hav 2 come or else after a while it wnt b worth ur while. Generally d reviews have been mixd but am glad more ppl seem 2 like the job dan not (moreso my abuja clients) so dats mighty fine. |

Hello everyone. I'm happy to know that the likes of xOthermilk and the rest of y'all Nigerian 2-D animation aficianodos are keeping the genre alive and kicking. I've been very busy lately hence my absence from this thread for sometime now. For about 3 months I've been working on a 7-minute length Classical animation short subject which I titled "THE AUDITION" (and which is now completely animated and in post-production), and thot I'd share a short (26-seconds) clip of the coloured pencil-test animation with you guys -- to wet your appetite. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0YjNq7GAX4 |
Interesting cast and storyline. Will watch out for it. |
Hey fellas, hope y'all doing great. 'Ve been out of circulation for a bit owing to some exciting developments in my animation-related endeavours. I got word that I was nominated in the "Creative Artist of the Year" category at the upcoming FUTURE AWARDS. Unforunately, I was unable to attend the nomination certificate presentation reception and 'after-party' (held at Terra Kulture, VI, last week thursday) as I was out of town at the time. But, God-willing, I'll be at the award-ceremony proper [come February 2010] -- and hopefully I'll win! ![]() Got lots of Animation-related gists that are sure to excite and interest everyone, but I'll save those for later. Brb!

Thank you all for you kind words. Been busy working hard to package/push the 'MASTER-CLASS' program and 've been fortunate enoff to win-over a few sponsors for the event. E go better! |
Lafem Animation has WON the "Best Animation" Award at the just concluded Abuja International Film Festival for the animated short subject titled "Lagos Sanitizer" (which is available on YouTube) and was made in honour of the visionary Lagos State Governor, Raji Fashola (S.A.N). Below is a screenshot from the animation Incidentally, I recently learned that a South-African animator copied the concept behind 'Lagos Sanitizer' and created an identical animation in FLASH.

@Soji: Wassup bro?! I'll tell you what, after our meeting I left with the impression that you're about to really BLOW-UP [like nitro] as Naija's most-promising indigenous tv producer [IMHO], and your best is definitely yet to come as your works speak HUGE volumes, mehn! I see you're already working your way into the top echelons of the ITPAN family (you're currently the Director of Publicity but to my eyes you be authentic ITPAN future-president-material -- in the mold of Mr. Femi Odugbemi). Forget the current S.A bandwagon/herd-mentality (as I like to call it), you just keep doing your thing and sooner than later you'll get your much-deserved props -- anyone that can still manage to survive and thrive under the harsh and merciless naija terrain is a success story in my book. I'll definitely check out your group. Keep it Lockd! ![]() |
AdamuW:Thanx a mil', AdamuW . I'll be uploading the film on youtube as soon as I get the chance. But it'll be screening in your 'neck of the woods', at the upcoming Abuja International Films Festival (along with some of our other works) from the 27th to the 30th of October 2009, at the Bolingo Hotels. |
I'm quite inspired by your persistent doggedness in pushing your work and putting it out there, that's the kind of spirit the industry needs to grow. Keep the fire burning.
