Hello! I am a student of UNICAL who has always had interest in Web Development. I recently started building this project for a client and was hoping to improve it by designing a better user interface, only for me to be notified just about a week ago by this client that he had already built the script himself. This pissed me greatly, because I knew what I sacrificed to build the script thus far.

Well, while I got angry, I didn't show my anger in any noticeable manner. I also shared part of the blames because my academics delayed the project completion to a large extent. Too many commitments in school and then you're as well trying to make ends meet. If you're there, or have been there, then you'll get the flow of the gist better.

OK enough of the stories, I mainly focused in the development aspect of the script but recently added some designs to make the script colourful. So, basically, the project is not fully completed due to my tight academic schedules and I have no use for the script at all. By incomplete, I mean there are just very few features that have not been added such as banning a user and limiting multiple reposting which is a "spammy" activity.

In fact, below are the features the forum script currently has:

1. Admin End
=> Add user
=> Manage
=> Create unlimited categories/forums
=> Site settings/control panel
=> Etc

2. User End
=> Front end chat box
=> User signup
=> User login
=> User profile
=> Notifications system
=> Forgot password/password recovery
=> Quote a reply in a thread
=> Attach an image to a reply
=> Etc

Other features not implemented
1. Emailer system
2. Ability for an admin to ban a user
3. Admin can't control multi-posting by spammy users
4. Plus other errors which I may not have spotted during development.

He is right, Codelgniter is cool but I will advice any aspiring developer to learn laravel, it is the fastest growing and most used PHP framework, though personally I prefer symfony even laravel was built with symfony, but I won't recommend it to a php developer with little experience as symfony is for advance PHP developer.

But I just find the processes involved in running Laravel very unpleasant. Running Laravel requires the developer to have an internet connection enabled, right?

My brother learn Modern PHP frameworks. like Laravel, symfony, etc; The world of building an app today is for easy interchanging of data using API. You have to build an app that you can share you data securely with the world. If the owner of this nairaland built his app that way he would have been one of the top tech social sites.

He clearly has no point bro and that's probably because he hasn't done his research well. CodeIgniter remains one of the most widely used and easily understood PHP frameworks today.

you've just said it. it is programmed by humans which means it is to be used by same humans to get things done, especially those who don't want to bother them self coding from scratch. there is no time to reinventing the wheels. what has already been made and working . just apply it and that is it.

if everyone is a programmer, there will not be jobs for programmers. the same op would not open a thread asking for such feature when he can code it.

And your types will always be the ones to flood Nairaland with all sort of threads claiming to be web developers while the real developers stay mute! Anyway, technology has just made it so. Enjoy.

Layout looks good but the yellow colour can have your visitors slightly covering their eyes when navigating. Besides, yellow and brown doesn't actually blend.

The framework is codeigniter.

If it's CodeIgniter, then you probably have an issue with your base_url configuration. Specify your base_url and that should solve your problem.

Came up with this last night using the CodeIgniter PHP framework. Since it was built in a rush, there are certain features I have deliberately not included. I will deploy it here when I finish implementing the two remaining features. Please not that no signup is required for users to cast their virtual votes, and for security reasons I won't share the technique used. But it's a very simple technique.

I decided not to use users mobile phone numbers as unique identifiers since such method can easily be compromised by using ficticious phone numbers to cast votes.

Thats a good idea, maybe, to vote you will have to enter your number, LGA and state which will be stored in a database so that everyone can only vote once

This is the best and cost-effective way so far!!!! Let me know when anything serious starts.

No bro... It's no WordPress. I am building everything from scratch using my favourite frameworks: Codeigniter and Bootstrap 4. Demo and source codes will be shared soon.

See, I'll say it all depends on what you mean by "Maths Knowledge". Personally, I don't believe one needs to acquire "special" knowledge of Maths in order to learn programming! In fact, I came to realize that learning how to program and then actually programming makes it easier to understand maths; not vice versa. I have seen some math guys struggling with programming. Although this claim is in no way scientific, but I can tell you that since the purpose of programming is to solve problems, having programming skills invariably means you're armed to "solve math problems". So do away with the premise that Math is a prerequisite for learning programming.

Glad you stopped by bro... I'll drop the demo link when i am done with the development, design and testing...

The development aspect of the project is done. My designer was designing the interfaces as at the time of writing this.
