Nigerians on social media have condemned the Federal Government of Nigeria over their decision to lend the sum of $1.2 billion from Brazil.

The Minister of Finance, budget and national planning, Zainab Ahmed had on Tuesday during her appearance before the house of representatives committee on finance, said the money is meant to fund agricultural programmes.

Ahmed urged the national assembly to approve the $1.2 billion loan from the Brazilian government for the “Green Imperative Programme”.

The Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, has asked the incumbent Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade to step aside to enable an interim administration to teach him about governance.

According to Daily Trust, the monarch disclosed this when Liyel Imoke, the former governor of the state visited him on Saturday, October 31, 2020.

He however accused Governor Ayodele of being responsible for the looting, vandalism in the state, claiming that the governor was not holding regular security meetings.

The monarch said, “He (Ayade) has not been holding security meetings regularly.

Former San Francisco 49er Dana Stubblefield was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.

He was charged and convicted for raping a developmentally disabled woman. The jury found Stubblefield lured the disabled lady to his home with the promise of a job.

The sentence was issued by a judge in San Jose after denying a defense motion for a new trial, the Mercury News reported.

Last week, the Sixth District Court of Appeal denied a related petition filed on behalf of Stubblefield by his attorneys.

A jury in July found Stubblefield, 49, guilty of raping the woman with the threat of a gun. He was also convicted of forcible oral copulation and false imprisonment.

He has been held in the Santa Clara County Main Jail since the verdict. Stubblefield began his 11-year lineman career in the NFL with the 49ers in 1993 as the league’s defensive rookie of the year.

He later won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors in 1997 before leaving the team to play for Washington.

He returned to the Bay Area to finish his career, playing with the 49ers in 2000-01 and the Raiders in 2003.

The Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), Otunba Segun Runsewe has announced the death of his mother, Mrs Felicia Runsewe nee Adesmosun.

The deceased fondly called Mama Kaduna died at aged 94 years. She lived and worked in Kaduna as a prosperous business woman for about 60years before retiring to Lagos where she passed on in the early hours of Saturday, October 17.

Two secondary school students have reportedly died from an auto accident in Ilorin, Kwara state capital. An additional five persons also sustained serious injuries during the accident.

Ekohotblog.com confirmed that a fatal accident happened at gas Odota area along Ilorin-Ogbomoso high on Wednesday.

Eyewitness told our correspondent that the accident, which occurred around 2pm at Gas Odota junction, opposite Alade filling station, was caused by a commercial cab picking passengers in an unauthorised way.

A mother has allegedly burnt her 11-year-old son’s hands for taking food from the pot without her permission.

The news has been making rounds on the internet with the source claiming that the mother allegedly placed the victim’s hand directly on fire and roasted it severely.

Ekohotblog.com learned that the incident happened on Friday at No. 33 Afaha Ikot Obio Nkan Street, Udo Udoma avenue in Ibesipko LGA in Akwa Ibom state where he lived with his father, Clement, a Keke NAPEP driver, and his biological mother, an orange seller.

Eyewitness confirmed that this is not the first time this is happening to the little boy as scars from older torture were seen on the body of the 11-year-old boy.

There’s a burn scar on his stomach alongside other scars on his body.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state said he is not aware of the case of child abuse but will investigate and revert as soon as possible.

Kwara state government have announced Monday, October 5, 2020 as resumption date for both Public and private schools in the State. Also, Tertiary institutions are however, expected to resume on October 12, 2020.

The state Commissioner for Communications, Afolabi Oshatimehin, announced this in a statement in Ilorin, on Wednesday. The Commissioner said “With various trainings held for teachers, on how to protect themselves and students, from COVID-19 infection, improved manpower in monitoring and case tracings, and appreciable guarantee of some protection for the children, the government hereby directs the reopening of elementary schools from October 5, 2020.

“Similarly, state owned tertiary institutions are to reopen from October 12, 2020, or as may be determined by their respective governance structures,” the statement added. According to the commissioner, “COVID-19 is still with us.

The government therefore, urges school authorities to ensure that all safety protocols are adhered to, including physical distancing, use of face masks, and constant washing of hands with soap and water, in order to flatten the curve of transmission of the virus.

“The government, similarly, wishes our students and teachers a safe stay in school, while promising to continue to do its best to keep the citizens safe at all times.”

The government warned that “Schools with scanty regards for safety protocols risk being shut.”

A former staff of First Bank of Nigeria Limited, Oreoluwa Adesakin has been sentenced to 98 years imprisonment for monetary extortion in the tune of N49m and $368,203.00 respectively.

The banker was sentenced on Monday, September 28, 2020 by Justice Muniru Olagunju of the Oyo State High Court.

Our correspondent learned that Adesakin, was found guilty of monetary extortion against her bosses to the tune of N49,320,652.32 (Forty-9,000,000, Three Hundred and Twenty Thousand, Six Hundred and Fifty-two Naira, Thirty-two Kobo), and extra $368,203.00 (Three Hundred and Sixty-8,000, Two Hundred and Three United States Dollars) belonging to the bank which she changed over to her own utilization.

The convict was arraigned by the Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), on 14-check charges, ranging fr stealing, fabrication and deceitful accounting.

A serving NYSC member, has accused the officers of the Nigeria Police Force in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State of brutality.

It all started on September 17 when men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad broke into her compound in search of Yahoo boys.

The corps member, whose name was given simply as Akinlabi to protect her identity, said she was sleeping but observed flashlight pointed to her face.

Narrating her ordeal on Tuesday, September 22, Akinlabi said, “On 17th of September 2020 by 2:00am, a team of people broke into our compound claiming to be SARS and searching for yahoo guys.

They broke my window net, pointed their torchlight at my face while asleep and commanded me to open the entrance door for them.

“I was scared to do as commanded because I couldn’t identify who they were, rather, I shouted and ran into the passage for help.

“On getting to the passage, I saw another set of people at the window threatening to deal with me if I did not open the door.

As I continued to shout for help, one of my neighbours opened her door for me and I entered her room and was shocked as they still came to the window of the woman insisting that we must open the door or they would break the door.

Lagos State police have apprehended two car snatchers who stabbed an Uber driver, ran away with his car.  

Ekohotblog learned that the car owner sustained deep and severe injuries on his face from the knife cut.

According to the car owner, the car was snatched around Lagos Business School on Sunday September 20 and driven to Ibeju Lekki.

Unknown to the robbers, the car had a tracker. The police went into action following a complaint filed by the owner of the car.

A video currently making rounds on social media has captured the moment some Police officers allegedly assaulted some Independent and National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials traveling back to Abuja after the just concluded Edo governorship election.

The incident happened on Monday September 21, 2020 along Auchi road in Edo state. Ekohotblog learned that the police van was registered with the plate number, ‘NPF2529D’.

It was gathered that one of the INEC drivers had confronted the Police officers for hitting the car he was driving.

When other INEC officials came down to introduce themselves, they were assaulted. Meanwhile, one of the INEC officials who video recorded the incident as evidence against the Police officers was allegedly struck on the head and ribs with a gun.

Popular online doctor, Dr Olufunmilayo has been accused by one Debo Odulana of trying to snatch his girlfriend.

According to the Dr Olufunmilayo’s tweets, Debo had called him out with over no issue. Olufunmilayo recounts that it all started Yesterday evening after he sent a congratulatory message to lady who won the Chevening UK scholarship.

Olufunmilayo said he woke up in the morning to see the Debo’s tweets, tagging him all sorts of names. Clarifying the situation, the US-based doctor said he had nothing with the lady in question, shared photos cconversation of his chat with the lady.

Troops of security operatives have laid siege on the hotel where Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike is lodging in Benin City, Edo State.

Governor Wike is the Chairman of the PDP National Campaign Council for Edo Governorship Election, currently on official assignment in Benin City for Saturday’s polls.

Governor Wike was said to have lodged at Best Western Hotel in the Government Reserved Area (GRA) of the state capital.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in a statement signed by the party’s Chairman in Rivers State, Akawor Desmond, claims that “security agencies have decided to harass and intimidate Governor Wike who has not done any wrong.”

Panel Submits Report On UNILAG Crisis Ekohotblog Reports, September 17, 2020 The Special Presidential Visitation Panel set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to look into the University of Lagos, crisis has submitted its report.

Ekohotblog recalled that the former vice chancellor, Ogundipe was removed from office by the Wale Babalakin-led Governing Council over allegations of financial infractions and others.

Still on the matter, the Chairman of the panel, Prof Tukur Sa’as submitted the report to the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu The panel was given two- week to complete its assignment upon inauguration on August 26, 2020.

A man boarded a bus using a snake as a face covering. Ekohotblog, September 16, 2020…The commuter used a big snake wrapped around his neck and mouth as face mask on a bus from Swinton to Manchester.

The incident happened on Monday, One of the passengers in the bus gave detailing insight on the event. According to the passenger, she thought the passenger was wearing a “funky mask” until she spotted it slithering over hand rails.

The eyewitness said she found the incident “really funny”, adding the animal did not seem to be bothering any of her fellow passengers. She said: “No-one batted an eyelid.”

Man Uses live Snake As Face Mask In Bus Transport bosses in Greater Manchester confirmed a snake was not a valid face covering.

According to the COVID-19 rules imposed on the state, using a face covering on public transport is mandatory, except for children under the age of 11 or those who are exempt for health or disability reasons.

A Transport for Greater Manchester spokesperson said: “Government guidance clearly states that this needn’t be a surgical mask, and that passengers can make their own or wear something suitable, such as a scarf or bandana.

“While there is a small degree of interpretation that can be applied to this, we do not believe it extends to the use of snakeskin – especially when still attached to the snake.”

Fake Amotekun Officer Arrested In Ibadan Ekohotblog, September 15, 2020.. A man identified as Kareem Isiaka Taiwo was on Monday arrested by security agents in Ibadan for posing as an officer of Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN), also known as Amotekun.

Ekohotblog noted that Taiwo tried to fraudulently swindle people of their money in the guise of being a recruitment officer.

Our reporter learned that the event that resulted in his arrest was when he pasted a notice at the Adamasingba Stadium venue of the State’s recruitment screening center with his name and phone number on Sunday.

Accident victim disappears after being rushed to a hospital by an unknown volunteer Ekohotblog, September 13, 2020….The family of an accident victim are asking for help to locate him after he was reportedly driven to the hospital by an unknown volunteered to offer him a ride in his bus to the hospital.

Our reporter learned that the accident victim, Daniel Igwe was involved in a road accident on Sunday 6th September 2020 at about 7:00pm along Ajah, Lekki Expressway.

Unfortunately, the lady who knocked him down zoomed off without offering a helping hand. According to eye witnesses, He was subsequently driven to a nearby hospital where he was given first aid treatment and adviced to go to the general hospital for full treatment.

Ondo Lawmakers Locked Out Of Assembly Complex Ekohotblog, September 10, 2020… Drama in Ondo state House of Assembly as two lawmakers were restricted by security from entering into the House, Ekohotblog reports.

Our correspondent gathered that the incident happened on Thursday. According to a 30 seconds video, making rounds on the internet, the two lawmakers, Mr Festus Akingbaso and Mr Rasheed Elegbeleye, were seen protesting against the action of the policemen at the gate.

The affected lawmakers who are representing Akoko North-East Constituency and Idanre Constituency, respectively were members of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Assembly.

During the protest, the security guard was spotted telling the lawmakers that the order to lock the gate came from the Speaker, Mr Bamidele Oloyeloogun.
