If you want to increase school fees, there ought to be lay down of things to follow. The government increased the school fees without any options for the students |

Pandemonium as suspected herdsmen hit Ekiti, 2 killed, 3 hospitalised There was pandemonium in Iyemero Ekiti, in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State in the early hours of Monday when suspected herders unleashed mayhem in the area. Two people allegedly lost their lives while three other persons were seriously injured during an attack with many displaced from their residences by the assailants. An eyewitness said one of the dead was Mr Danjuma Ali, a farmer while the identity of the second person, whose body has been deposited in the morgue of the General hospital, Ikole Ekiti is still sketchy. Those undergoing treatment at the emergency section of the Federal Teaching Hospital (FETHI), Ido Ekiti include Mrs Jennifer Akoko , Mr Joseph Achebe and one other victim. The source said: “It has happened again today; it has been a recurrent killing. Some herders called Bororo stormed the farmstead and shot those innocent people. “They came around 1 am and were there till dawn. Our farmers are all afraid to go their farmsteads. They all rushed to the palace of Oba Ebenezer Agboola Ogungbemi, the Olu of Iyemero Ekiti to take refuge. “We are mourning today at Iyemero; we are not happy about this incident and the government must do something about it,” the source said. The Olu of Iyemero , Oba Ogungbemi and Olu-in-Council, restated their calls for the establishment of a police station in the town to curb the activities of the vampires. The monarch, who spoke through the palace spokesman, Chief Ariyo Abejide, said there was an urgent need for the teeming population of farmers in the farmstead to be protected and secured by the security agencies from another imminent attack by the marauders. “These Fulani herders stormed the community through the border of Iyemero at Eruku in Kwara State. This makes Iyemero a porous exit and entrant; this portends danger and insecurity for the community, Ikole local government and the state in general.”

The first Igbo alphabet-character set and Igbo primer (Isoama-Ibo) was published by Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther (a Yoruba man from Osogun) in 1857. How can you now claim superiority over the Yoruba race and even carelessly affirm that your forebears should be thanked for bringing enlightenment to Yoruba Land? |
The first storey building in Nigeria was built in Marina, Badagry in 1845, long before some of hinterland people gave up the idea of conical mud houses with thatched roofs which some boastfully called 'ancient mansions.' How can you now claim your grand-sires developed Lagos? Please if you are one of those spreading the fiction, I expect you to desist from self-delusion and collective amnesia forthwith. |

Why I won’t appear before Fayemi's Fact-Finding Committee on Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State – Lere Olayinka My attention has been drawn to announcements on radio in Ekiti State and publications on Social Media, suggesting my invitation to appear before the Fact-Finding Committee set up by the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi on the activities of the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State BSES), owners of Ekiti Radio 91.5FM and Ekiti Television (EKTV). While it is an established fact that as I write today, November 14, 2018, I am yet to receive any official invitation from the so-called committee to that effect; I wish to state expressly that I am not under any obligation to appear before the committee or any other one for that matter. From its actions so far, especially the Press Statement in which it referred to the date of yesterday as November 23, 2018, it is clear that the said Committee was not properly briefed on its scope, powers and functions, hence its ill decision to embark on a naked dance at Oja Oba Market, advertising its ignorance to the entire world by acting like a judicial panel or a court of law. I, therefore wish to inform those who set the committee up for a pre-determined purpose that I, Lere Olayinka will not appear before any committee of a government that was faultily established with the stolen mandate of Ekiti people. Most importantly, since one of the major reasons for setting up the committee is to find out what led to the closure of Ekiti FM 91.5 and EKTV on July 14, 2018, I advise the committee to seek audience with Governor Kayode Fayemi, who engineered the closure through his Abuja collaborators. It is an undisputable/notorious fact that the closure of Ekiti Radio and Television was part of the grand plot to take the State by force and also illegally. Since that sinister motive has been achieved and Fayemi is now the imposing governor, he should rather see to the reopening of the broadcast stations instead of seeking to rub the mud of his act of wickedness against Ekiti and the innocent staff of the BSES who only did their jobs as directed by their employer on others. It is on record that the N2m recommencement fee imposed by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) was paid. Yet, the suspension was not lifted. It is also on record that while receiving his Certificate of Return from INEC, Fayemi boasted openly that the Radio and Television stations won't be reopened until October 16, 2018. Therefore, Fayemi, the mastermind of the closure of EKTV and Ekiti Radio should reopen the stations. Also, since the Committee is FACT-FINDING, the number one priority should have been the reopening of the stations so that the members can have unhindered access to records of the Corporation haven been locked in the offices since July 14, 2018. My question is; can a Fact-Finding Committee function effectively without having access to the corporations' requisite documents and equipments? Furthermore, there are Civil Servants who are Directors in the BSES. These Director's are the custodians of the Corporation’s relevant information and they are the ones that can be summoned by the Fact-Finding Committee, not an individual, personnel or group of persons who are no longer in the employment of government. The committee is therefore advised to seek relevant information on BSES from the Directors of Administration and Supplies, Finance, Engineering and others. Also, as said earlier, the committee should appeal to Governor Fayemi to get the stations reopened so that proper assessment of the stations’ functional and non-functional equipments can be carried out. And on a lighter mood, since we are now in the era of Executive Orders in Ekiti, may be the governor can as well sign “Executive Order 419” to reopen the radio and television stations that he closed to prevent the Ayo Fayose-led government from communicating with the good people of Ekiti who rely on the broadcast stations for information after the July 14, 2018 governorship election was rigged as planned. Let me conclude for now by urging members of the so-called committee as well as those helping them to appraise their ignorance and ill decisions to advise Governor Fayemi to first wash his hands clean so that when next he is coming to equity, he will come with clean hands. Lere Olayinka Media Aide to former Governor Ayodele Fayose November 14, 2018. |

OWERRI—The workload of serving judicial officers in Imo State may remain high till further notice, as Governor Rochas Okorocha is said to have put the appointment of new judges on hold. A very credible government source which reached Vanguard weekend, disclosed that “the governor has already written the State chairman of the State Judicial Service Commission, JSC, who also doubles as the State Chief Judge, Justice Paschal Nnadi, directing that the processes for the appointment of new judges should be put on hold till further notice. The same source revealed that “the only person that survived the governor’s current sledgehammer was the Acting President of the State’s Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Christy Anwuka, whose name had earlier been sent to the National Judicial Council, NJC, for confirmation of her appointment.” Although Vanguard gathered that “sometime this year, Governor Okorocha granted approval for the appointment of new judges to commence in the state, he however, changed his mind and blamed paucity of funds for his current action.” Our source revealed that as required by the regulations of the NJC, lawyers were invited soon after the JSC received the initial governor’s approval, to apply for appointment. “The lawyers applied and the serving judges sent in their nominations from the list of candidates who applied. The successful applicants were shortlisted and sent to the JSC, a constitutional body responsible for recommending to the NJC, qualified lawyers to be appointed judges”, the source said. Vanguard equally gathered that “the shortlisted candidates were screened by the Department of State Security, DSS, and on November 7, 2018, the JSC interviewed the first batch of the applicants.” Read more at: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/11/okorocha-puts-appointment-of-new-judges-on-hold/

On this day in 1815, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, a pioneering champion of women’s rights, was born in Johnstown, N.Y. In advocating women’s suffrage in her manifesto, the Declaration of Rights and Sentiments, Stanton forged ahead of Lucretia Mott, a Quaker minister who joined Stanton in organizing the Seneca Falls Convention of 1848. At the pathbreaking two-day conclave, Stanton, moving beyond the cause of voting rights, argued for a woman’s right to higher education, a professional life and a separate legal identity, including the right to own property and obtain a divorce. “The history of mankind is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations on the part of man toward woman, having in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over her,” Stanton wrote. “To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world. ... Wherever we turn, the history of woman is sad and dark, without any alleviating circumstances, nothing from which we can draw consolation.” She became a key collaborator of Susan B. Anthony, another pioneering suffragist, who valued her organizational ability. In 1854, Stanton received an unprecedented invitation to address the New York Legislature. Her speech led to legislation, passed in 1860, that granted married women separate rights to their wages and to equal guardianship of their children.

The latest outbreak of the Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo is the worst in the country's history, the health ministry says. Almost 200 people have died since August, officials say, with more than 300 confirmed or probable cases. A vaccination programme has so far inoculated about 25,000 people. DR Congo has suffered long years of instability and efforts to relieve the disease have been hampered by attacks on medical workers. "At this point, 319 cases and 198 deaths have been registered," health minister Oly Ilunga said. "In view of these figures, my thoughts and my prayers go to the hundreds of families grieving, to the hundreds of orphans and the families which have been wiped out." About half the victims were from Beni, a city of 800,000 in the North Kivu region, the national health authority said. The current outbreak is the tenth DR Congo has suffered and the worst since the country's first epidemic in 1976, so early in the disease's history it had yet to be named. The outbreak in 1976 of what was then an unknown disease in a remote part of DR Congo sparked terror, but was brought under control by experts quickly identifying the virus' nature and using quarantines. Ebola is spread via small amounts of bodily fluid and infection often proves fatal. Early symptoms are flu-like, followed by vomiting, diarrhoea, a rash and internal and external bleeding. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-46167340 |

Lere Olayinka wrote : Senate President Bukola Saraki, I apologise on behalf of Oshiomhole Dear Senate President, My name is Lere Olayinka, a friend of the Irunmales of Oke Agbonna in Okemesi Ekiti, Ekiti State. I woke up today, to be told by the Irunmales that Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, that Iyamho, Edo man that was boasting up and down that he was going to remove you as Senate President has done Ben Johnson, Carl Levis as well as Usain Bolt and landed in USA just because he was grilled twice by the DSS. I was also told that men of the DSS are still waiting for him to return to Nija. They want to keep questioning him till he vomits what he ate and what he did not eat, even including his intestine. Haba! They want to use his proud eyes to scratch ground (won fe fi oju e gbo le). One of the Irunmales told me in confidence that you are the one he (Oshiomhole) offended. I asked the offence he committed and I was told he dared you, telling you that he will remove you from the position that Allah (Subhanahu wa ta'ala) gave you. For this, angry 777 Alfas in Ilorin are still reporting him to Allah (Subhanahu wa ta'ala). Also, some of your supporters took his matter to Oke Sobi (Sobi Hill) and Odo Oyun (River Oyun). For Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, things have fallen apart, the center is no longer holding and he is no longer at ease. They said he ran to USA to cool his hot head and to at least have small erection for that his yellow pawpaw wife that a certain Agbegilere known as Rochas Okorocha has been using koloro eyes to look. I am beginning to have pity on the man, especially because of his only foreign investment. I am therefore begging you to forgive and forget. Aimo lo nse Aliyu. He thought he was still an Obioma in the labour union. My Distinguished Senate President, I am on my bended knees, please forgive Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole. Kindly instruct those Ilorin Alfas to stop reminding Allah his sins. Omo Baba Oloye, tell your supporters to appeal to those gods of Odo Oyun and Oke Sobi, beg Afonja omo Morilewa and Shehu Alimi to forgive Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole. He must have learnt his lessons and he will never be rude to his seniors again. I am sure when he returns from where he ran to, he will come to you to apologise properly and probably bring nkan etutu (objects for sacrifice) and tuuba for the people of Ilorin Afonja o ni Quran. Thank you sir. Lere Olayinka 1, Irunmale Avenue, Agbonna Hilltop, Okemesi Ekiti 09/11/2018
