Celebrities / Swedish Police Find Drugs & A Stun Gun On Justin Bieber’s Tour Bus by Lanreclassic(m): 1:43am On Apr 26, 2013

Justin Bieber must be brought under check…His growing up seems to be fetching him a lot of problems with the law.
Swedish police have found drugs on pop sensation Justin Bieber’s tour bus.
Police spokesman Lars Bystrom revealed a small amount of drugs and a stun gun were found when officers raided the bus parked under the Globen concert venue in Stockholm, where Bieber was performing on Wednesday.
They have refused to reveal identify which drugs were discovered on the blacked out bus – but said officers ordered the search after they ‘smelt cannabis’ coming from the vehicle earlier that evening.
Come on Justin Bieber…What the heck is going on with you?

Politics / Protesters Paralyse Activities At Lagos Governor’s Office by Lanreclassic(m): 1:25am On Jan 22, 2013
ACTIVITES at Lagos Island Local Government and the Governor’s office, Alausa, Ikeja, were paralysed, yesterday, as hundreds of Lagos Island Fashion Dealers Association members, protested over the continued closure of Breadfruit Street by Governor Babatunde Fashola.

This came as members of the State House of Assembly, urged the State Master Bakers and Caterers Association to come up with ways including sending a bill to House to check quackery in industry.

Chairman, House Committee on Health Services, Suuru Avoseh, gave the advice during a meeting between the Committee and association of Master Baker and Caterers, yesterday, at the assembly complex, Alausa, Ikeja.

The aggrieved traders who trooped to the streets as early as 9:00 a.m., marched through various streets on the ever busy Central Business District, CBD,, chanting anti- government slogans to express their displeasure over the continued closure of the street largely occupied by foot wears traders.

It would be recalled that fire gutted Euroasia Plaza, a five-storey building housing the traders and a branch of a commercial bank, on October 27, 2012, prompting the governor to order its immediate closure.

Some of the streets occupied by the traders affected by the closure include Martins Street, Broad Street, Balogun Street and others.

On Broad Street, the traders mounted road blocks and disrupted free flow of traffic.

The traders displayed placards with inscriptions such as: “We want our stalls reopened, Three months after Euroasia inferno, we are tired of sitting at home, Is there government in Nigeria, Our children are suffering, Please, Fashola, come to our aid and others.”

The traders said “all we want is for Governor Babatunde Fashola to order that our stalls be re-opened for us to commence business activities.

The inferno wasn’t as bad as the Jankara fire-crackers explosion. And their market has been re-opened.”

Chairman of the association, Mr. Arinze Ugonabo, said “Since the incident, the government has relocated pupils of St. Paul Primary School on the street. But we have not been allowed to make use of our shops.

One would have expected the state government to compensate the traders, but what we received from the government was closure.

The traders later trooped to the Governor’s Office, Alausa, and barricaded the premises.

They barricaded the entrance to the Governor’s Office and other roads, obstructing the free flow of traffic for several hours.

Politics / 16 Policemen Burnt To Death In Auto Crash by Lanreclassic(m): 7:35am On Jan 21, 2013
SIXTEEN policemen, who had just passed out of Police College were yesterday burnt to death at Omua-Aran area of Kwara State following an auto crash involving a Mercedes Benz car and Hummer bus.

Eye witnesses told Vanguard that the accident occurred at about 9:00 a.m in front of the Federal Government Girls College, Omu-Aran in Irepodun Local Government Area of the state.

The Toyota Hummer bus which the policemen chattered was travelling from Ilorin to Nasarawa State, while the Mercedes Benz car with number plate Kaduna AB 347 BKA was coming from the opposite direction and rammed into the “police vehicle.”

It was said the impact caused the fire to erupt. Rescuers were said to have arrived too late as the two vehicles were said to have been burnt into ashes before their arrival.

However, there were three survivors who were rushed to Omu-Aran General Hospital where they are receiving treatment.

Vanguard checks also revealed that the policemen were indigenes of Kwara who were trained in Lagos. They reportedly made a detour to Ilorin enroute Nasarawa State where they were allegedly posted to before they met their untimely death.

Confirming the accident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Fabode Femi, who said the police were aware of the accident, however, added that he was yet to confirm the number of casualty.

He assured that he would brief the press as soon as he was able to get the accurate figure of the victims.

Politics / JAMBS Claim Responsibility For Soldiers Ambushed In Kogi by Lanreclassic(m): 7:18am On Jan 21, 2013
NEW terrorist group, JAMA’ATU ANSARUL MUSLIMINA FI BILADIS-SUDAN (a.k.a JAMBS), has claimed responsibility for Saturday’s attack on Nigerian’s troops in Kogi State.JAMBS, believed to be a breakaway faction of the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram, said in a statement on Saturday ,that the soldiers were attacked in order to warn Nigeria against joining Western powers in their “aim to demolish the Islamic empire of Mali.”
The soldiers, on their way to Mali as part of African peacekeeping mission, were ambushed by the JAMBS members , who threw Improvised Explosive Devices at their convoy along Okene-Lokoja Road. Two soldiers and many others were said to be injured during a gun battle that ensued.
JAMBS claim came on a day that the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, was
flown abroad for treatment after Saturday’s attack on his convoy. Bayero’s driver and three others died in the attack.
In a terse statement posted by an online publication, Dessert Herald, on Sunday, a person claiming to be the Leader of JAMBS, Abu usamatal Ansary, warned Nigeria and other African to be ready for “ more difficulties” as they embarked on restoring peace to Mali.
The statement reads, “We, members of JAMA’ATU ANSARUL MUSLIMINA FI BILADIS-SUDAN, are gladly informing the general public, especially those in black Africa, that with the aid and guidance of Allah, we on January 19, 2013 at Itape, Ekehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, successfully executed our first attempt in attacking the Nigerian troops that were aiming to demolish the Islamic Empire of Mali.
“We are equipped and waiting for any slightest attempt of Nigerian army moving towards the Islamic Empire of Mali. And we are warning African countries to stop helping Western countries in fighting against Islam and Muslims; if not, we are sternly assuring them, particularly the Nigerian government to be prepared and be utmost ready to face difficulties from JAMBS anywhere and anytime. May Allah help us and grant our wishes.”
When contacted, the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj.- Gen Bola Koleosho, said he had not seen the statement by the group.
He said the terrorists were giving Okenne a bad name which the people must resist.
He said “I have not seen it (the claim by JAMBS). I am just hearing it. We are not issuing any statement now.
“The only thing I see is that it could affect the image of Okenne as a town. Commuters passing through the town are already dreading it. They are giving the town a bad name. And I know that law-abiding people in the town would resist it.”
Meanwhile, the Nigerian troops arrived Bamako, the Malian capital on Sunday.
Mali, a neighbouring West African country, has been in the throes of Islamic insurgency since March 2012 when mutinous soldiers in Bamako overthrew President Amadou Toumani Touré.
The soldiers said they were angry over the government’s alleged mishandling of a rebellion by nomadic Tuareg rebels in the country’s vast northern desert.
Following on the heels of the coup, the Tuareg rebels first seized much of the north and then were themselves pushed out by Islamist extremists.
The Nigerian soldiers are part of the West African intervention troops in the crisis.
Meanwhile, the Emir of Kano’s departure to London at about 1.35 pm Sunday was witnessed by the state’s Deputy Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Islamic scholars and top government officials.
The 83-year-old Emir, said to have been hit in the attack on his convoy, travelled in a private jet which took off around 1.30pm on Sunday for London . He travelled in company with his two sons-the Ciroman Kano, Sanusi Ado Bayero; and Turakin Kano, District Head of Nassarawa, Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero, who were also hit by bullets during the attack on the Emir.
Ganduje told journalists at the airport that three suspects had been arrested by security agencies in connection with the attack.
The deputy governor said the suspects had been cooperating with security agencies in their investigations. He described the incident as “very unfortunate” but said the Emir was “very stable.”
He said, “We thank God that his royal highness was able to survive the attack, as you can see now, the Emir is leaving for medical check-up in London.
“We embarked on massive prayers to seek God’s support to expose those behind this crime. I spoke with the Emir and he narrated to me how it happened.”
Special Adviser to the Governor on Emirate Affairs, Alhaji Tijjani Sanka, told journalists that Bayor had earlier planned a trip to London before the attack.
Also on Sunday, the Northern States Governors’ Forum described the attack on the Emir as a terrorist act.
Chairman of the forum and Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu called on the government to quickly check the spate of violence in the country.
The northern umbrella group, Arewa Consultative Forum, expressed shock at the attack and called for thorough investigation, while the Islamic body, Jama’atu Nasril Islam, said governments at all levels should give security of lives and property utmost priority.
“The JNI condemns, in strongest term, this dastardly act that led to loss of innocent lives, and again reiterates its earlier calls to governments at all levels to give security of lives and properties of citizens the utmost priority it deserves,” the group said in a statement on Sunday.
Also, the Peoples Democratic Party described the attack on Bayero as an assault on the traditional institution.
A statement by its National Publicity Secretary , Olisa Metuh, said it was deeply saddened by the wave of attacks in the country and urged those behind the acts to have a rethink.
It added that there was no justification for bloodletting and urged Nigerians to learn to live harmoniously with one another.
It advised those who had grievances to seek legitimate means of getting redress instead of resorting to violence.

Politics / Pat Utomi Joins ACN by Lanreclassic(m): 9:36pm On Dec 23, 2012

Pat Utomi: I encourage all opposition parties to join the ACN. As far as I’m concerned, Nigeria should run a PDP-ACN political party structure

A former presidential candidate and one of Nigeria’s foremost professor of political economy and management, Pat Utomi, has joined the opposition Action Congress of Nigeria.

Mr. Utomi, who contested the 2007 presidential election on the platform of the obscure African Democratic Party, announced his switch of party in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Sunday night.

“It has been pointed out to me that many Nigerians who have supported the work I have done in politics and community service are unaware of the fact that I’m now a member of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN),” the statement said. “I have been a member for more than a year.”

He said he decided to join the ACN, which is the dominant political platform Nigeria’s South-West geopolitical zone and in a part of the South-South, “because the progressive opposition in Nigeria has been unable to bring itself under one umbrella though many, myself included, have tried to bring this about by encouraging the subsuming of ego for the common progressive good.”

He continued, “This has proven very difficult and progressives cannot afford to dissipate their energies in various small armies while the enemies of the progressive struggle are disciplined enough to coalesce under the conservative/retrogressive Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“I would therefore encourage all opposition parties to join the ACN. As far as I’m concerned, Nigeria should run a PDP-ACN political party structure.”

Mr. Utomi, a successful businessman and former presidential adviser in the Second Republic’s government of Shehu Shagari, entered into full-time politics in 2007 when he joined the African Democratic Congress and contested that year’s presidential election on that platform.

But after his unimpressive showing in that election, Mr. Utomi tried hard to galvanise the country’s opposition parties to form a single party that could effectively challenge the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in subsequent elections.

After he failed in that effort, Pat Utomi formed another party, the Social Democratic Mega Party, on which platform he tried to contest for the 2011 presidential elections. He withdrew from the race in the last minutes.

Romance / The World's Tallest Teenage Girl,elisany Finds Love(photos & Video) by Lanreclassic(m): 9:26pm On Dec 23, 2012
Got this from the UK THE SUN and i felt its cool i share the story of a young teenage girl(17) who currently the world's tallest teenage girl.

It is difficult to believe that Elisany da Cruz Silva, is just 17, and she holds the record of the world’s tallest teen girl at 6ft 8in. But if you think that will make the boys feel intimidated by her height you got it wrong because Elisany is in a relationship with Francinaldo da Silva Carvalho, 22, who stands at 5ft 4in.nd such love comes with a high price – he has to practically stand on his toes and crane his neck to get a kiss.More pics after the cut

The construction worker said: “My friends say things like, ‘How do you hug her?’. I say, ‘There’s a way of doing everything’.”
Elisany, an aspiring model from Salinopolis, Brazil, is just an inch taller than Stoke City’s Peter Crouch — she has a form of gigantism due to a tumour on her pituitary gland.
She grew faster than her seven siblings from the age of 11 and hit 6ft 9in when she was 14. But her sudden growth caused pain in her limbs and joints.

Surgeons removed the gland two years ago and she shrank by an inch — but she could still not fit on the school bus and had to quit school due to teasing.
But she’s happy now with Francinaldo. She said: “What really attracted me was his personality, the way he acts with people and the way he acts with me.
“The only thing that really affects us is when we hang out holding hands — it seems like he is my little brother or son.

Politics / Park Emerges The First South Korea Woman President by Lanreclassic(m): 1:35pm On Dec 20, 2012

The daughter of a former military ruler won South Korea's presidential election on Wednesday and will become the country's first female leader, saying she would work to heal a divided society.

The 60-year old conservative, Park Geun-hye, will return to the presidential palace in Seoul where she served as her father's first lady in the 1970s, after her mother was assassinated by a North Korean-backed gunman.

With more than 88 percent of the votes counted, Park led with 51.6 percent to 48 percent for her left-wing challenger, human rights lawyer Moon Jae-in, giving her an unassailable lead that forced Moon to concede.

Her raucous, jubilant supporters braved sub-zero temperatures to chant her name and wave South Korean flags outside her house. When she reached her party headquarters, Park was greeted with shouts of "president".

An elated Park reached into the crowd to grasp hands of supporters wearing red scarves, her party's color.

A small electrical fire was on Thursday morning reported at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.

An eyewitness said the fire emanated from some cables, which apparently melted under heat, as some welders were working at the extension of ‘D’ Wing of the international airport.

Airport officials swiftly cut off power supply to the arrival and departure terminals, in order to forestall any untoward development and isolated the scene of the spark.

Fire fighters were also deployed in the affected area and were able to put the situation under control.

Securitymen also erected a metal barricade around the site.

Power supply was restored to the airport terminal within a few minutes.

Flight operations were, however, not affected while the incident lasted.

Politics / Nigeria, US relationship is beyond oil – US Consul General by Lanreclassic(m): 3:55pm On Dec 09, 2012
By Hugo Odiogor, Foreign Affairs Editor
LAGOS — THE US Consul General in Nigeria, Mr. Jeffery Hawkins, has advised Nigerians to look beyond oil trade in their assessment of the relations with his country.

The envoy who was on a media tour of the corporate headquarters of Vanguard Media Limited in Lagos said there were wide areas of interaction between Nigeria and the United States that must not be relegated to the background on the strength of whether the export of crude oil to the United States increases or declines particularly on the energy independence policy of the Obama administration.

Mr. Jeffery J. Hawkins, United State Consul General Lagos and Mrs. Dehab Ghebreab, Public Affairs Officer, United States Consulate General Lagos

Hawkins, who was accompanied by the Public Affairs Officer in the Consulate, Mrs. Dehab Ghebreab and Information Specialist Broadcast Media, Mrs. Joke Omotunde, said there were strong ties between Nigeria and the US especially in areas of security, education, cultural exchanges, military training and collaboration in regional and continental conflict resolution.

He said: “Nigeria is a huge country and you do not fully understand the country until you are inside it. The country has enormous energy which is found in the diversity of its people, who are very humorous.

The country has vast landmass and each area has something unique about it. We recognise Nigeria as the giant of Africa because of the size of the country in population, economy, the media and sustenance of democracy.”

He said the US recognised Nigeria’s leadership role in Africa, adding that the country was equally a strong player in global affairs.

According to the envoy, foreigners to Nigeria tended to see more of the positive sides than the areas of irritations that Nigerians complained of.

Hawkins said his visit to Vanguard was part of his familiarisation tour of the Nigerian media landscape, to understand the working of the media in Nigeria and the challenges of implementing the Freedom of Information Act.

The US team was received by the Editor, Mr. Mdeno Bayagbon; Deputy Editor, Mr. Eze Anaba; Foreign Affairs Editor, Mr. Hugo Odiogor; Business Editor, Mr. Omoh Gabriel; Political Editor, Emmanuel Aziken; and Corporate Affairs Manager, Mr. Victor Omoregie.

In his welcome remarks, Bayabgon told the envoy that Vanguard as a newspaper had been very supportive of the activities of the US mission in Nigeria. He commended the Consulate for finding positive lights with which to promote social and economic relations between the two countries.

According to the Editor, it is worth commending that the US ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Terrance McCaulley, was presently on a four-city tour in US to educate Americans on the process of “Doing Business in Nigeria.”

http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/12/nigeria-us-relationship-is-beyond-us-consul-general/
He said that is a measure of the confidence that the US mission has in Nigeria, regardless of the security challenges facing the country now.

It's no longer news that conversial Tonto Dikeh recently drooped her Single (crazically fit ) featuring Terry G, which seems to be making a head way in the music industry....Some unconfirmed source has it that Tonto Dikeh is now signed to TGP Entertainment Label.

Do you think Tonto signed to Terry's Label will increase Tonto rising profile?...Do you think this will be a great collabo?

Webmasters / Re: How Can We Make Nairaland More Beautiful? by Lanreclassic(m): 8:17am On Dec 06, 2012
Seun: The vibe I'm getting is that Nairaland is attractive enough...

I really wanted to post this as promised but i got banned due to some reasons best know to nairaland. Mr Seun let's face it,Nairaland was founded around 7 years ago, the CMS tool used them was one the best then.Things has really changed and our dear website has got to move on,I'm sure nairalander will agree that TV, Cars e.t.c made 7 years ago are not comparable to those made these days.My advice is that this topic is on the first page . This topic is a critical one .Few replies can't represent the general views of hundreds of thousands of Nairalanders.

Nairaland is the pride of Africa and the best has to be given to make it a better one and look more attractive.

-Movement for a better Nairaland!

Thanks
