By 2031, APC will present a Northerner of which Atiku still qualifies to contest; Obi cannot.
But it is Obi that should step down for Atiku in 2027 No northerner should've contested in 2023 and this upcoming 2027. It's just the born to rule mentality that they have the votes to make themselves President. |

As regards the ADC, one would think now that Obi is out of the party shebi Atiku will clinch his consensus ticket and nobody will have issues with him . But see the same ADC having two factions; even Atiku's faction still have issues with Amaechi kicking against the same consensus they were forcing Obi to kiss the ring and accept. You would agree with every well meaning Nigerian that Buhari's government was the worst thing that ever happened to this country. Then Tinubu's administration taking over from Buhari hasn't really done better like most pro-Tinubu pseudo analysts want us to believe.
I just don't like it when start muddling waters to make it seem like the country was in ruins before APC took over. No it wasn't! We were expecting something better, not worse like it has gotten in the past 11 years and counting. I think trying to do all reforms at once is the Achilles heel of this administration. BlueRayDick: 1.Why do you think each government including Tinubu's always celebrate when the naira gains against the dollar in the foreign exchange market?
2. When FG claims governors now have as much as x3 of previous FAAC allocations under Tinubu's government, are they referring to Naira or dollars? 1. If I remembered correctly, I once posted here that Tinubu and Cardoso are intentionally keeping the exchange rate at that 1300 - 1400 range to enable them actually fund the budget. Personally I feel a stronger naira means cheaper dollars and that's why they celebrate it. 2. It's in terms of Naira equivalent, the dollar equivalent is most likely the same or even lesser. It's also why I don't parrot that nonsense anymore because when you factor in the increase in price of most goods and services due to the exchange rate, you will see it cancel out wherever increase in FAAC allocation that they get. |

BlueRayDick: There's nothing mischievous about staying the amount each government borrowed in naira.
Naira is the currency we spend in this country and that's what the common man can relate with.Sometimes we need analysts like these to put things into perspective to give people imagination of what exactly is going on with governannce under this administration.
Whatever becomes of exchange rate between Naira and dollar is a function of various government's actions and inactions..... You can't start blaming Jonathan for what naira has become today when Jonathan left government 11 years ago.
The excuse in the past was that government was borrowing to pay salaries and we don't have enough to develop the country after paying subsidies. Today they keep borrowing more than we did in the past and they are not paying subsidy anymore. I actually went back to the link you posted and I just realised the guy that made that statement was just looking for a banger headline. The facts don't align. First, our debt profile is not a hidden document, it's open for anyone to see and scrutinize for themselves. Our total debt today is 159 trillion naira. Secondly, Buhari handed over a total debt of 87 trillion naira to Tinubu. That's around $103 billion. Thirdly, when Buhari was leaving office, he used Emefiele to pin the 25 trillion ways and means payment into public debt further increasing the domestic debt. Fourth, Buhari left an external loan of $43.16 billion, as at today, our external loan is $51.86 billion which means this administration has borrowed $8.7billion which if you use today exchange rate is 11.9 trillion naira plus another 15.3 trillion on domestic debt which brings his total debt to 27.2 trillion naira Fifth, the writer of that post was being deliberately mischievous using a base of 12 trillion debt which Jonathan left in office when Buhari already balloon the national debt to 87 trillion naira before he left. Of course exchange rate is an important part of national debt, the debts that Jonathan and Buhari left that Tinubu is servicing now, he will still have to source the $$ in today's exchange rate. To make it eve clearer for you, when Jonathan handed over to Buhari, the total national debt was $63 billion which in naira was 12 trillion naira that the mischievous man quoted. According to Okonjo Iweala, Jonathan only borrowed $21 billion out of this $63 billion debt. When Buhari left office, the total national debt is $103 billion which is 87 trillion naira using the official exchange rate then. If you look at it critically, Buhari didn't borrow X2 of what Jonathan left but the naira equivalent is x7. Why is that? Because Buhari exchange rate at the end of his tenure is significantly higher than GEJ own. If you keep going downward further, you'll notice the same pattern. 1 billion dollars under Obasanjo is not the same as 1 billion dollars under GEJ. Same way 1 billion dollars under Abacha is not the same as 1 billion dollars under Obasanjo Time value of money, inflation and exchange rate all play a part. |

BlueRayDick: How many countries that u know within the space of 2 years borrowed x5 of what It had borrowed in its first 55 years post independence?
Saying "borrowing is not the problem" is actually a problem in itself. You don't anybody to tell u that the character and antecedents of those borrowing the funds already suggested it won't be put to good use. Anyone can play with numbers to give a desired result. It makes no sense to compare someone that borrows $1billion which will be 1.37 trillion naira in today exchange rate to someone like say GEJ who was borrowing at a pegged exchange rate of 150-200 which will make $1 billion around 150 billion naira. It's only when these analyst wants to be mischievous that they mention the naira equivalent as if all of the past Presidents were borrowing on the same exchange rate. The more important question is what the government is using all the loans for which we can't see it's impact. |

raumdeuter: So the security votes should it be withdrawn since they are not doing any security and handed to the FG right? Should the governors return the Security votes since they do not have the capacity to provide security, they shouldnt have the capacity to collect the money. Will you disagree
The legislative is a separate arm from the executive and he cannot tell them to just do anything they want
Many people in Nigeria on this thread including politicians have misgivings about state police so its not just what Tinubu will force through Yes I agree that the security votes should be withdrawn and written off the federal sharing formula. It's nonsense. You are giving the state Governors money for security when they have no power to actually operate as they should. Governors are chief security officer of NOTHING. Lets take Lagos as an example, the Lagos State government has a Security Trust Fund that big organisation and private individuals are expected to contribute to. Lagos use this trust fund to buy operational vehicles, helicopters, bikes, vans and the likes for the police yet these formations answers to someone in Abuja. Lagos even lobbied and the police agree to create RRS yet it's still a department under the federal police even though the Lagos State government pays them allowance, kit them and buy equipments for them yet LASG has little influence over them, even the commander of that unit is chosen from Abuja by the federal police. Since they moved the current IGP out of Lagos as commander of RRS, all othe commanders they have brought has been nothing to write home about and yet LASG that practically pay them well has zero say in who becomes their commander, the order comes from Abuja. Ridiculous LASG also set up the Lagos State Neighborhood Corps, those ones can't even carry arms, na pako them dey carry upandown, even if they notice chaos is about to happen somewhere, they'll still have to rely and call on the federal police 🤣 Those ones can decide to come to the scene when trouble don end. If the LASG wants to arm the Neighbourhood Corps, they'll have to be under the purview of the ministry of interior or NSA, totally taking control away from the state government. Should we talk about Amotekun? Do you see the kind of guns they carry? They cannot arm them with sophisticated weapons else FG will have to take control over them. Ridiculous What exactly are the Governors chief security of again? We run a senseless centralization of power in Abuja and the President must either break that system and give the Governors actual power to tackle insecurity in their domain or he will continue to take the blame, rightly so. |

raumdeuter: Until state police is a reality should FG cut off the security votes to states and manage everything from Abuja
Or what's the use of the security votes they get when the buck still always stop at presidency
What is delaying state police today BTW Egbon, the President cannot keep passing the blame to the Governors when as at today he still controls the police and the entire armed forces. Even the forest rangers are under the control of the FG. The final buck stops at his table. No excuses. We won’t make this excuse for another person, we shouldn’t be making it for Asiwaju. The Governor security votes are whatever, you are giving them money when they have zero operational control over the security outfits. It’s a travesty. They are still doing framework and bla bla bla with the IGP of police as the head. Again we are putting the cart ahead of the horse. Let the National Assembly do their damn job and come up with a bill outlining the structure, framework and funding of how the state police will be and how they will operate with the federal police. Repel the current Police Acts and allow each state to draw up their own police structure, framework, funding and recruitments. We just like over complicating simple issues. Those who have been entrusted with office should do their damn jobs. If Asiwaju wants to pass the blame to the Governors on insecurities, he should tel the NA to quickly come up with the state police bill, he kuku get whatever he wants from the National Assembly, this one shouldn’t be hard. For now, the blame rest squarely on the President neck, shoulder and body. |
