I don't understand

How will a commercial bank mistakingly transfer 280 million to someone's account?

A POS operator will most likely be using a savings account; 5 million kpere

So how did he receive 280 million in it?

When they discovered that it was a mistake(a big lie), why not place a lien on the account?

So, they let him roam all around Kwara, looking and pricing houses, cars and pay for Hajj...

Like...They saw him do these withdrawals and did nothing?

So Binani and Aisha Buhari are cousin. cheesy

Buhari was meant to marry Binani before he later married Aisha. Both women have a running personal beef. No wonder Aisha supported Ribadu against her cousin during the APC primaries.

Wahala no Dey finish. 😂

In this same Lagos, A lady made a video and tweet celebrating Tinubu victory at the Presidential election, the video went viral with a lot of people cursing her and her generation. Some days later, the lady was sacked at where she worked because it was owned by a Peter Obi supporter. You should come and see the kind trolling the lady got after loosing her job.

Anyways, I hope Tonia keeps her job and hope she learnt her lessons.

I don't even understand the politicking

Could it be that Atiku supported Binani was that why Seyi Makinde of G5 openly went to Yola to support Fintiri

Cos why will Seyi make that publicly stunt trip, I suspect it's to counter someone

I also remember Binani campaigning with Atikus posters
Finitri na confirm Atiku boy and Tinubu did supported Binani.

Ribadu took her to court after the primaries that she tampered with the delegate list but Tinubu persuaded Ribadu to withdraw the suit and let go. Ribadu agreed. Tinubu and Buhari did campaign for her when the campaign train went to Adamawa and she did campaigned for Tinubu also but Ribadu stayed away from her campaign.

Ribadu will most likely be the minister from Adamawa in preparation for 2027 Governorship election. That ticket too sure for ham unless something drastic happens as 4yrs is a long time in politics, anything can happen.

I have no idea what Makonde was doing in Yola.

The 25% FCT issue is a case of ignorant people that do not understand the constitution. Yakubu does not have a duty to accomodate the ignorance of people.

The IREV issue is a different case which I didn’t really follow in detail. So there may or may not be a case there.

Only cold blooded desperation can make any informed person try to use that 25% FCT claim.
Yakubu does not have to cater to desperadoes. His job is to read out the results. Ignorant people and desperadoes can go and waste their money in the courts depending on 25% FCT claim. grin

Yeah I have watched 12 angry men. Both the original and the remake. It’s a classic.

There is no perfect system. You have to look at it from the point of the founding fathers and the original US citizens who had just escaped nearly 200 years of British tyranny.

Those guys didn’t even want a President at first. Their aim was to ensure that 1 man under pressure from centralised authority could not punish the common man. They preferred to give such powers to their peers. Unfortunately not all men are created equal in society.

Both the jury system and the system with verdict by judges have flaws.
True. No perfect system exist anywhere but you can always try to get the best out of any chosen system we decide to go with.

The Jury system was created to ensure a defendant is tried by his/ her fellow citizens who meet strict moral/ legal criteria. The idea behind the Jury system is to reduce the direct influence of the Government on the Judiciary. A jury must have a unanimous vote to get a favorable judgment in most cases.
The process of selecting a Jury for a case is quite exhaustive, I must tell you, depending on the gravity of the case. Each county has a pool of potential juries it keeps and updates based on records like criminal and legal histories; you have to be an upstanding citizen of the country. I am in the pool of juries for the State where I currently reside and have gotten quite close to getting picked. There are some criticism of the jury system, like personal biases and other issues but the fundamental idea is to reduce the influence of 1 person (The Judge) who is appointed by the Government.
Thank you. If the selective process is strict and not just anyone can be a jury, I think it’s fine in a way.

The movie just brings out a fresh perspective for me in viewing how the jury system can wrongly send a man to die because of their own personal bias or issues.

I believe the judge alone being a trained professional is better.

I’d rather my fate in a judges hand than a jury especially as a black man.

It is democratizing the process. Will you rather have your fate decided by 12 people or 1 judge

Where is bias likely to be prevalent, 12 regular everyday people or 1 judge

I think for some cases like death penalty, everyone have to agree and just one disagreement will change everything
I believe lawyers and judges are in best position to argue and judge cases and not someone who has no knowledge of the law and can use bias to vote Yes or No.

If you watch the movie I’m talking about, some of these guys voted Yes because they felt the guy was guilty not because the evidence says he was guilty. One even voted guilty because he hated those that are from the trenches, another one voted guilty because of what his son did, another one voted guilty because everyone was voting guilty.

I don’t know if you are the one that paid their boss or what.

In the Presidential election, all the results that were announced were announced by the RO of each state. Yakubu didn’t announce of result for any state, all he did was tabulate the result that each state RO announced and declared a winner based on those results.

How exactly is it the same thing with what the REC did?

It was established to protect citizens from the excesses of tyrannical authority whereby judges could be used to deal with citizens.

Most of the founding fathers of the US were against centralisation of power or authority in any form.
While that is understandable, it just comes into consideration that the jury system sometimes is flawed.

If you’ve watched the 2 movies I mentioned, you might understand where I’m coming from.

The Banker for example, the 2 black guys were sent to jail and all the assets in their names were consficated by a all white jury for a crime they didn’t commit.

Jury selection is open to all citizens, As a citizen you can get a mail in your house asking you to come for jury duty.

So the jury can be anyone

Juror Selection
Each district court randomly selects citizens’ names from lists of registered voters and people with drivers licenses who live in that district. The people randomly selected complete a questionnaire to help determine if they are qualified to serve on a jury. Those qualified are randomly chosen to be summoned to appear for jury duty. This selection process helps to make sure that jurors represent a cross section of the community, without regard to race, gender, national origin, age, or political affiliation.

Watching the 12 angry men, it’s not a wonder that the US has a lot of wrongly convicted inmates. The man I find annoying the most is the one that voted Yes just so he can go and watch ball when he knows that if the verdicts is Yes, it’s death penalty for the 19yr old guy.

Even when he later voted No, it was because he just want them to get it over with so he can go watch ball. You have to begin to wonder the process the court takes to appoint him a jury.

Who has watched 12 Angry Men and The Banker?

12 angry men was a movie that’s produced ahead of its time. It’s brings fresh perspective as to the bias or otherwise that the jury takes in making a judgement.

The Banker is a true life story of 2 black men in the 1960s and the challenges the black man has to go through to own a house, do business or take a loan from the bank.

Those 2 movies are highly recommended.

I think INEC has done the right thing in this case . People complaining INEC only suspended him obviously didn’t know INEC can’t do beyond that ; they can’t sack him(since they didn’t appoint him but the president ), neither can they prosecute him since it’s police duty to do that .

The only throng wey remain na for INEC to show workings of the final result which they promised Thursday
Yeah. I think they have handled the situation very well with transparency. The one thing remaining is for them to show workings on Thursday.

There are deeper problems in the country beyond just the wording of the electoral law.

In another situation the RO might be the one the get the 2b naira and prematurely announce the winner. What happens then?

The disconnect between crime and punishment in Nigeria is amazing.
INEC has called for the IGP to investigate and prosecute the REC.

They have also called on the SGF to report the actions of the REC since the REC was appointed by the President and approved by the National Assembly.

At the time, it did seem like a good idea. I know I was very much in support of him signing it. I also don't think that these things are necessarily blunders.

Let's look at the aspect of the electoral law that Binani is trying to exploit. It makes sense that if the RO is unable to announce results due to illness, accident or any other reason, then someone else can be delegated to do it on his behalf.

I believe those who put them had good intentions but our criminal politicians are exploiting it. Of course, I may be wrong. It could also be that the holes were deliberately planted and hidden in fine print cheesy
It was a good idea yes but that draft was rushed with a lot of loopholes which these lawmakers intentionally put there for their own gain.

Buhari rejected that bill twice telling them to go and work on the bill and remove all those controversial inputs but it seems somehow there are plenty loopholes available to be exploited in the law.

We are fully back to the Obj days when all you had to do was pay INEC to write results. Whatever gains we made before now in our electoral process has been totally reversed.
Buhari should never have signed that new electoral act into law. He should’ve insisted on them rectifying all these blunders.

That's not ho u interpret such statements na haba. If u are picking a phrase out of a complete sentence to interpret it in a way that favours ur argument, then there's practically no need for the electoral law itself . U have to look at the whole sentence and understand what the sentence is saying.

I can tell u that if the case gets to the supreme court, the position of Senator Abbo and the rest of APC people clinging on to that section 149 will not stand. The law empowers Returning officer to declare election results ad that is what has been happening till Adamawa happened. It makes no sense that the law that empowers Returning officer to declare result will somehow allow just anybody working with INEC to usurp the power of the returning officer.
You do know the Federal High Court in Abuja ruled on this yesterday stopping INEC from reversing the announcement made by the REC citing this exact same section.

It’s even more annoying that it was a Senator that raised that clause meaning they knew the exact reason why the clause was there. It was for this kind of scenario.

Like I said before, our lawmakers are crooks.
