izzou: Larride, you're starting to sound somehow with what you just typed, but let's leave it at that
I'm more concerned about how you have totally shifted the blame of the Massacre rumors from the government to the people. Now let me give a breakdown of the events on that day, and tell me why the people shouldn't believe a massacre happened, or even if it didn't, why the government shouldn't be blamed
-Sanwo-olu imposed a curfew at 4pm but shifted it to 8pm - The NA arrived at the Toll gate before 8pm and starting shooting (You and I agree to this) -The LASG came online around 10pm and denied the event, promising to investigate -Sanwo olu came the next morning stating that he never ordered the Army to do so -The NA gave three conflicting reports that the video was fake, and then it was photoshopped, and then they were instructed by Sanwo-olu to do that, and then again, it was blanks that was fired
All what I typed up there are all in Nairaland to see. It's devoid of eye witnesses and rumours
So how do you expect people to just believe that nothing happened, when the government itself has given enough reasons for anyone to believe it happened
Like I said, my worries are not whether the massacre is a lie or not. It's about how people with the same thoughts as you quickly jump to debunk it like that's the main issue.
The government was not plain and sincere from the beginning. You should spend more time talking about that I don’t know if most times you guy read another post and then think I’m the one that write the post and then respond back to me. Maybe you need to go and read all my post on this subject matter from the beginning to the end before you start drawing inference that doesn’t correlate. It’s even laughable the way you skip pass my answer to your question to start talking about what government said or has not said. As if that’s the bone of contention. As at today 11/18/2020, it is easy to prove human rights violations against the Nigerian Army than trying to prove they committed massacre at Lekki tollgate. There are no evidence to prove a massacre happened. The fact is Soldiers were at the Lekki tollgate, soldiers opened fire and there are 2 confirmed death and several injured. It is that human rights violation angle that the Lagos State Judicial panel should be focusing on so as to get justice for those that died and compensation for those that were injured but rather we are trying to prove that a massacre happened or not. If I still have to break this down for you, maybe you should tell me your local language and I should post in it because I don’t understand what’s hard to understand in my post. |

odizeey: Holding all variables constant, the way your writing tone is, it looks like you are giving the government s pass because they killed one or two (according you you). Whether it's one or a cripple that was killed, that's a massacre to a family. Someone's hope has been cut down.
Our argument should not be one the number of people killed but on the number of years the perpetrators of this crime should spend in jail.
USA can go on a rescue mission for a citizen but we can excuse the government because they killed one? No, that is not my tone and most times it’s because most of you here have conditioned your mind to see one thing irrespective of what I post here. Whether it is 1 or 2 that died that night, the goal should be getting them justice. Right now those that have died whether 1 or 2 or 5 are not even remotely close to getting justice because those that should be helping them get justice are trying to prove that a massacre happened. |

BlueRayDick: Na wa o. U obviously don’t know how u are sounding now.
U will make assumptions based on the account of someone who clearly stated she left the scene in between the shooting , but have vowed never to believe the account of Dj switch who was present all tru the night and even made a live video who is to have a glimpse of the horror show.
Is this what party loyalty does to people ? DJ switch account is not the only account of what happened that night and moreover DJ switch has contradicting herself severally. She first claimed more than 72 people were killed, then she claimed 12 people were killed then she claimed she’s not sure of the total number of people killed but she singlehandedly carried 7 dead bodies and dropped it at the feet of the soldiers? Which account exactly do you want me to believe? Meanwhile there’s another eye witness account who actually carried people to the hospital who claimed he didn’t see any bodies and he only evacuated those injured to the hospital. Let me make my point very clear. The event of Oct 20 (whether Army shot to the air or not) is enough ground to accuse the army of abuse of human rights violations without exaggerations. Govt are experts in using subterfuge and you cannot use lies to push truth. What govt does is attack the lies and in one full scope label both the lies and the truth fake news. There was no need to claim a massacre happened when there was no evidence of it. The arrays of pics of the supposed massacre that littered social media that night and the following morning were debunked to be fake news and thus the govt got the perfect cover to shift the focus away from the human rights violation to the authenticity or otherwise of the various claims arising. That’s what I and Ibime have been trying to point out to you. Now the Lagos State Judicial panel of inquiry has shifted focus to the event of the Lekki tollgate and most of it is trying to prove whether a massacre happened or not and at the end of the day if it was later confirmed that no massacre took place, the military would have shifted the focus away from their officers involved in the shootings. If you refer back to the discussion I had with airmark on the night of the shootings, I told air.mark that I believe the army were at the scene of the shootings and for a military that has several records of human rights abuse, it doesn’t need to add exaggeration to nail them but now they have the perfect cover to escape “human rights violations” against its officers. (That’s if they are not found guilty). Meanwhile injecting party and loyalty whatever into your argument every now and then doesn’t make you smart or more logical. Cheers. |

BlueRayDick: Guy ! Haba now...
1. The BBC said they initially shot in the air ( protesters and CNN confirmed they shot in the air as well as at protesters too)
2. The BBC reporter said they left the scene after 20 minutes of shooting . CNN has a footage of 101 minutes they analyzed that showed people were in pool of blood on the floor .
So in ur bid to defend the government u brought out a video of a reporter talking about the few minutes they spent at the scene before they left for their own safety .... Guy why ?
3. From the CNN footage it was confirmed the army were shooting from both ends . The BBC lady indirectly confirmed this by saying they had to identify themselves before they were giving safe passage. So somehow u think the army that that sardined protesters on both sides were trying to disperse them Abi?
Hey God ! Na wa o. I don’t even know what to say anymore Maybe you should watch the video again. The lady clearly said the soldiers were shooting sporadically into the air. She said it twice. She also said they shot for more than 20mins and they left the scene after about 30mins later. All other account of the event said the army came and started shooting at protesters. What with the bbc reporter said she witness, we can say those other account is a lie and what she said tally with what the General said at the Judicial panel. They didn’t spend few mins there, they spent almost half of the time the military spent there and she confirmed they were shooting in the air. Nowhere in that almost 5mins video did she remotely say the military shoot directly at people. For emphasis, I will say it again that she said it TWICE that the soldiers were shooting in the air. Like I said earlier, nothing will change your view that no massacre happened and that’s ok. You are free to hold whatever opinion you like. Truth is fact doesn’t support any claim that massacre happened. |

BlueRayDick: These are just semantics I’m not ready to start arguing about. You can decide to adopt any word to describe the show of horror we watched on live video that night.
U probably think it was because the incident was referred to “ massacre “ instead of the government’s preferred word “shootings “ , that was why the lootings, destruction of properties and other crimes followed.
Well let me break it to u; those who carried out those acts didn’t even care about the semantics..... the thugs who burnt down the government properties like high court , BRT etc cared less about that.
The CNN investigative video has confirmed what we’ve said all along :
1. People were killed by the army 2. Live bullets were fired
But guess what? The government has refused to be man enough to take responsibility. How do u still keep taking sides with government in spite of all this ? How ? https://twitter.com/goziconc/status/1329072190650662928?s=21That is BBC interview with one of their reporters that was on ground at the protest ground a day after the shootings. Smh .... baba continue believing what u wish to believe Did anyone disputed the fact that people died that night? Even Sanwoolu himself confirm that 2 people died. What is being disproved is that a massacre happened. |

BlueRayDick: Im not twisting what he said ; he quoted Sextion 217 2C of the cinstitution that allowed them to intervene when theres breakdown of law and order. He then confirmed under cross examination that the protesters at Lekki werw peaceful. Does it make sense to u to say u want to restore order amongst people u agree to Have been peaceful?
So u actualky believe the blank shots they fired in the air led to multiple gun shots wound sustained by protesters and those that have been confirmed dead ? Na wa o You are twisting what the general said. The general said it clearly that Gov Sanwoolu was the one that invited them to intervene to help restore law and order since police stations are been overrun. He quoted that part of the section where the Gov derive the power to invite the military to help restore law and order. You are talking as if the General said they were ordered to Lekki tollgate only. The Gov already imposed a curfew and invited the military to help enforce the curfew since the police were been attacked and their police stations burnt down. The General even expressed disappointment on why Sanwoolu could have initially deny inviting the military. The general said when their officer got to Lekki tollgate, they shot in the air to disperse the protesters as they have no reason to shoot into such a large crowd and that they were peaceful. There were no contradiction in what the general said. |

This is an eyewitness account. I know u will still have reason to either disprove this or write it off entirely; but it's all good At what point do we actually put emotions aside and ask logical questions? Today makes it 28 days that the shooting happened, is it that after carting away the dead bodies, the Army also went to their houses and cart away their families and relatives? If after close to a month that the army opened fire directly at protesters and carted dead bodies away in 2 vans and we are yet to start seeing different missing person flooding both social media and offline, you have to begin to question what you actually believe in. Last week or thereabouts they have already started trending hashtag that DJ Switch didn’t make any allegations and all she did was do live stream of the shooting whereas DJ switch was the one that started the Army carted away bodies allegations. If you still believe massacre happened that night, I cannot disprove it for you so you can continue to believe what you believe in. |

BlueRayDick: I want to believe u missed the following parts of the post ;
No matter the name u decide to call it, the Nigerian army shot at unarmed protesters, people died on the spot, others died as a result of injuries and some are missing.
Anybody can keep making the government's argument for them.
You say the general didn't lie but he claimed in his testimony that the army came to intervene when the police was overwhelmed. The section of the constitution he quoted allows the army to intervene in civil unrest when the army has been overwhelmed, but when the cross examination started last week he confirmed the protesters at the toll gate were peaceful which immediately put to tatters his claim that they intervened becaue police was overwhelmed. The sitting was adjourned shortly after.
Like I said, General Taiwo will be under cross examination on Saturday.....anybody can say anything as their testimony in a judicial proceeding, it is under cross examination facts will be revealed. Don’t try to twist what the General said. He said Gov Sanwoolu asked the Army to intervene when the Police and their stations were being burnt. He also alluded to the fact that those protesting at Lekki tollgate were peaceful but that there were also some other charlatan at the other side. He said the army had no reason to open fire at protestors and only shoot in the air to disperse them. Now his testimonies at the Judicial panel can be challenged and fact check during cross examination. Moreover witnesses are still needed to come forward to say their own part of events that occurred especially those that have lost a loved one or have a missing person. The Judicial panel is sitting and proceeding is been live streamed, the army has gone to say their own side of the story, they will be cross examined, let witnesses from that night also go there and give their own side of the story so both can face each other and we know who is lieing. As at today, there’s no evidence that massacre happened at Lekki, it doesn’t however invalidate genuine concerns about the army having to shot to disperse peaceful protesters. |

BlueRayDick: I guess this lays to rest further arguments as to whether the massacre happened or not. The report covered a whole lot of grey areas the naysayers have continuously nimble on :
1. Name of dead protesters/ family members of those who lost their loved ones.
2. That the army did use live ammunitions. Even the country of supply for the live ammunitions was mentioned and it was confirmed Nigerian army has been buying and using same for years now .
3. That the army obviously cleared their mess by taking away the bodies as claimed by DJ Switch from inception.
Well , I’m waiting for Saturday when the General Taiwo guy will be under cross examination by the protesters’ counsel at the Lagos state panel. I want to see how well he can defend the lies he put out last week while giving his testimony. I know nothing serious will come out of the panel and it’s report , but I just want to see hypocrisy of the army, Sanwoolu and other players for what it is Maybe you watched another video/report apart from the one CNN put out for you to still say their video support that massacre happened at Lekki toll gate. Maybe the definition of massacre has changed overnight, I’m not sure. 1. From the video/report, CNN only reported 1 uncertified death and 1 missing person according to the brother. How does this prove massacre. Today make it 28 days that the shooting happened, if CNN can only report 1 uncertified death and 1 missing person, it led credence to the fact that no massacre happened. 2. There were several casing that were picked up even by protesters after the shooting that night and those casing were blank bullet. Whether the army used live bullet or not, I’m not sure but they did use blank bullet which the casings that were picked up after the protestors showed. 3. General Taiwo did not deny the fact that the army was at Lekki toll gate, neither did he deny that the soldiers shot though he claimed that they the soldiers shot in the air. We have seen mass shooting even in US and the casualties even from untrained shooters cannot be compared to what happened at Lekki where trained soldiers are said to have shot directly at protestors. The shooting (whether to the air or not) is bad enough to hold govt to account on than trying to push a massacre that never happened. The fact of that night still remains: Were Army deployed to Lekki toll gate? Yes Were did shooting at Lekki toll gate? Yes Did a massacre happened there? NO. It’s instructive to note that even CNN didn’t claim a massacre happened there. |
