Almost all threats to our National Security today have their roots in State Governors' sponsorship of local militia forces whether you are talking Niger Delta militants or Boko Haram.

If Police are allowed to fall into State Governors hands, most Northern Police will be reduced to mere hisbah Police for the implementation of Sharia Law, they wont even know or care about the secular laws they are meant to uphold after a while. South-South Police will be used for bunkering activities etc, and all Governors around the country will use them as illegal private Security outfit for the persecution of opponents.

Police must stay Federal, simples.

I disagree that’s it’s a poorly conceived idea.

Whether we like it or not, a decentralized police will still be the way to go. We must find a way to curb the excessive of the State Gov. whatever cons you can think of that state police brings, the pro outweighs them.

Even as it is, state government still controls police in their respective states even though they still hide under the fact that police is under the command of the FG. It’s a convenient excuse for them. Each state must be responsible for the security in their state else this insecurity will just keep growing.

Police currently have the Police Service Commission which recommend IG, AIG and the likes for the President to appoint. The same can be replicated in each state. Make the Police unit independent and their funding should be a first line charge from the federation account.

Something has to give.

I tell you something. Nigeria has a lot of security challenges. In Buharis village bandits no allow dem rest almost everywhere in the country killings are going on that military cannot curtail. Traveling by road from Abuja to Kaduna is like traveling through Allepo or Fallujah

Insecurity is at all time high one of my childhood friends who worked in telecom was kidnapped on the way to a site not long ago and his company had to pay a ransom to get his released

Same in Katsina, Zamfara, Benue Kaduna Taraba Tiv/Jukun etc

They cannot afford another addition to the already bad situation whether in Lekki Oyigbo or Lagos

The relative peace we enjoy in the south we don't know what others are facing elsewhere

When I said we have to seriously start considering State policing, Ibime says we should continue with this centralized police force.

The Nigeria Police force has 600k officers. How can 600k officers effectively police over 200m people?

I remember when I was tackling State Govs here and the kind attack I receive.

PMB is proposing a change to the revenue sharing formula whereby states and local govt will get more share than the FG.

SG: 26.72%
LG: 20.60%

Funny enough, the State Govs will probably win the case against the FG with the kind of judiciary that we have.
