Do you notice the way christians tender arguments like "Jesus is the Word and the word is God" or "Christ (who assumedly knew he would rise again) SACRIFICED his life for our sins? Seriously you guys are nuts! Thats the only explanation for being able to speak insanity so freely! |
Yeah! You were too engrossed with the anti-calvinist parts of the bible to remember the calvinist parts like "and if those days are not cut short, even the very elect shall go astray"... Or "its not by power nor by might, but its by the grace of God" ... Or "it is not of the the runner but by God who sheweth mercy"? My dear, the problem is not calvinism at all! The problem lies in your bible which blatantly states that 2 2 is 4 in this chapter, only to say its 6 in the next! Hence, you are right (according to the bible) and marc arthur is also right (according to the bible). And am sure people like you will be quick to point out that the bible is inequivocal, divinely inspired and has no contradictions? |
He's obviously established so you keep finding reasons to remain in a falling building. I don't think he's gonna marry you. I think he promised all those other girls the same thing. Hence, confront him and quit if u still can |
If you were a boko haram member, will you let the president know your moves? I think you are casting blames indiscriminately. What would you do if you were in the presidenu.s shoes? |
This man obviously foresaw the accident as the words he used reasonably relates with the details of the accident. However, most of us here who do not attend his church, nor believe In Christianity feel it must be a hoax and i can understand that, especially in view of the fact that am an atheist in the real sense of the word. But we must realize that not everything in life can be explained. He may not be from God. He may not be the type of man we like. He may be banned from entering certain countries, but the fact remains that he prophesied a national disaster and it came to pass and for that, he deserves to be treated with a little more seriousness and respect! My fellow atheists, i advise you all to think twice before calling a man with such powers "a con", "dumb", and other unprintable names. It not only portrays ignorance on our part, it goes a long way to show we are even less realistic than our theist counterparts. I hope i've made a point |
From what i saw in that article, the story is very likely to be true but then, what does it matter? M.K.O. Abiola was an honorable man who put food on the tables of millions and sent thousands to school and even if he burnt a billion Bibles, i'll always revere him, my being a Christian notwithstanding. If only our present politicians will borrow a leaf from him, you would all probably be too advanced to be making storms over the burning of religious war manuals. |
Exactly! Are you into prostitution? Because you seriously sound like you are |
I've never seen a work of criticism so constructively structured all week long! This article says it all and though don't blame GEJ too much... I loved every word! |
I feel u jo |
Just what i thought! A full page of sentimental and pointless arguments and who has proved or disproved anything? No one! Just follow whichever suits you jo and forget about questions without answers |
I used to ask such questions too but you must realize that not everything can be explained. People don't believe in Christianity because its true. They believe in it because they've been programmed to by the environment and we can't also ignore the fact that it affects lives positively. Hence, reason should be abrogated while faith is perpetrated. You need to ignore questions like this one as you'll never find answers to them and they'll only confuse you. In the end, no argument can prove or disprove that the whole Christianity thing is real or fake |
Men... Lots of texts up there but WHAT EXACTLY IS YOUR POINT ![]() |
jambogini: kWhy do Nigerians love thinking in the box? Do you expect to get into most sought-after tertiary institutions without any form of screening or competition whatsoever? Americans and foreign nations have their own way of doing it and over here; this is our own way of doing it. Jamb is probably corrupt, but it is because of you Nigerians. You revere miracle centres and dole out huge sums of money to invilgators and yet, when it disfavours you, you come back here to ventilate deserved grievances. You should scale through Jamb and afterwards; scale through POst UME. That way, you are sure you truly deserve the admission! Has any of you gotten 300 without malpractices and you were denied admission? YOu guys should go pick your books and stop being comfortable in mediocrity. If i get 205 in an examination like Jamb; i would simply hide myself lest anyone asks me what i scored and its just the truth! How can you be asked 400 questions on subjects you are supposed to have been studying for 6 years and you fail 195 ![]() |
I dont think its the government's fault at all. Every Nigerian student wants to go to university, and yet, not every Nigerian student is academically excellent. Hence, if you are not good enough for the competition, and yet, you go ahead to join the competition; Why shouldnt you fail? Everyone ought to know themselves, as well as their strengths and weaknesses. Getting 200 -220 and expecting admission is mere wishful thinking except if you have some powers that be working behind you and its that simple. Hence, if you cant secure something much higher, why not try other places where you are likely to make it? I've seen really brilliant people make it into the universities of their choice and i know people still make it on merit. But the question is CAN YOU BEAT THE COMPETITION? its that simple. IF you cant, you'll only waste your time and money and come back to nairaland to abuse Jamb and its officials. |
This story has a comic touch. Whoever wrote this enjoyed writing it and as such, i think its fiction. However, if there's any truth in it, then i'll advise the author to forgive herself first, and start life afresh. Let go of the past! |
It is said that one speaks to faces, but writes to minds. For many centuries now, the art of writing has been used to dethrone despotic regimes, educate minds, extirpate racism, militate against abuse of human rights and other social threats. Hence, writing is a very effective way of getting to people’s minds and making them do what they initially would not do. But it is irrefutable to say that not all writings eventually get to the mind of the people. There are some articles, letters, passages that people cannot suffer themselves to read for even a minute because they fail to reach the mind of their intended audience. And if a piece of writing fails to reach the mind of its reader, that writing is nothing but a waste of time. This article hereby provides a step by step approach to writing, so that at the end of this passage, the reader would be able to construct meaningful and mind-penetrating passages easily. First of all, before writing anything at all, one should be densely apprised on what one wants to write. Many people have picked up their pens to write at one time or the other, only to discover that they run out of words or points in the middle of their articles. They usually erroneously conclude that “they were not just cut out for writing” , but that’s not true. How can you write, when you do not know what to write? Its just like expecting your pen to flow, when there is no ink in it! If the words must flow incessantly, then you must read incessantly. It’s that simple! Before writing articles that are meant to educate readers, it is only pertinent that you study the topic you want to treat thoroughly, noting out points and facts as they arise. After fixating your self with information on what you are about to write on, the next thing you should do is to create an outline. This is very simple. Write out the points that you know will be the foundational points of your article or the basis of your arguments. This should be done in chronological order. It will help you to formulate your words accurately and pointedly. Now, an article can be perceived as warm, intimidating, monotonous, humorous, casual or emotional. It all depends on the tone of the author. You should choose the tone you want to use in your writing in accordance with the situation or theme you are addressing. This can be done by selecting your diction carefully. For instance, an article that is loosely constructed with many adverbs and colloquial expressions such as “You know”, “really”, “terribly”, e.t.c, will be considered jovial or casual by readers and this will definitely affect their reaction. Therefore you don’t want to use such words when writing to the president of your country. It is always advisable that you use simple, straightforward words and sentences as this will save you the confusion of having to discern your tone. Once you’ve chosen your tone, introduce your topic in such a way that your tone can be easily deciphered in your first sentence. Most people usually start their articles with generally accepted quotes and wise sayings but it is noteworthy to say that you would sound more formal, original and precise, if you went straight to the point. When elucidating a culture, an art or the history of a thing, you should clearly simplify the history of your subject matter. Here, you must give facts, facts and nothing but facts. That is why most writers would always run out of ink here if they did not enrich themselves before hand with the needed information. Be sure to keep your tenses free of unnecessary jaw breaking words as they can easily force the reader to misconstrue your teaching. Besides, who wants to read an article that will be sending him to the dictionary after every one minute? In the body of the writing, strive to maintain your tone. You will sound inconsistent, if you deviate from one tone to the other. By this time, you must have engraved your style of writing on the reader’s mind. You must maintain that style while exploring, expanding, and contracting your subject matter, avoid any word or expression that might create confusion and also make sure that every single punctuation, word, phrase, expression, and clause therein is absolutely necessary. Like Jesus Christ said; its not by thou many words that thou shall be heard” Before concluding, mildly inform your reader of your intention with a paragraph that begins with “finally”, in conclusion, e.t.c. if your writing is meant to educate, then it is impertinent for you to draw conclusions for your reader. For example, when writing an article on “ The History of Akwa Ibom State” it is improper for you to conclude with “Akwa Ibom is a good State” or even use sentences that point to that. Why? Because you are expected to state the facts and allow your already enlightened readers to draw their respective conclusions. However, you are allowed to draw personal conclusions if you are writing an article on a topic like “ The Bad side of Obasanjo”. This is because you are criticizing, not educating. You should be careful to keep your concluding tenses strong and consistent enough to consolidate the supposed trust, you;ve earned from your reader. After writing, prune your writing by removing every word that is uncalled for, especially adjectives and adverbs. It is needless to mention that you must ensure that your grammar, morphology and syntax are absolutely immaculate. You should call someone you trust his/her grammatical proficiency to proofread your work, if you do not trust your judgment. This is very necessary because, most readers will immediately write you off as more or less an illiterate if they find grammatical mistakes in your composition. I do not mean to contradict this article, but you should also note that its not a must that you should conform your self to these steps because writing is an art. Every art allows for flexibility and creativity. The basic question you should have in mind is; will these elicit the envisaged reaction of my reader? If yes, then do not hesitate to incorporate it! Keep writing till I write you again. |
Yeah, you are right. I was greatly insular to her pains up there and am more sorry than d adjective can express. Accept my sympathies, sister. Life's totally unpredictable |
Am really sensitive to your loss, sis. But you must understand that such an occurrance in no way invalidates the existence of God. Whether he exists or not, we humans must die one day and nothing guarantees us a day more to live. Hence, you should stop blaming any unseen being and accept what has happened 4 what it is. Someday, u'll die too and hopefully, rendezvous with them. But your misfortune shouldn't determine your religion |

very excellent, informed assertion. Why do people tear themselves to thread over nothing? I definitely know that if God exists, and is naive enough to send me to hell due to my unbelief, i wouldn't like him 4 anything, nor would i like to stay with him in his heaven. Hence, i'll lose nothing. If he doesn't exist, i'll simply die and go back to nothingness, and i'd still be losing nothing. |
Once you get to heaven, you are shown ur mansions built with Gold but u cant sleep in them remember? There's neither night nor day up there. U ar den shown ur streets made of gold, but when gold becomes that common, it becomes worthless... Just like sand... And no one would want to buy.. U can neither marry, have children, nor buy new cars. You can't even laugh, you'd be too busy singing praises unto God... Honestly, i don't doubt if heaven exists... I'm just having problems differentiating it from hell |
The truth is there's something about religion which we can't explain. Miracles are real and this points to the fact that there might be a God. On the other hand, the chaos on earth, and the innumerable gods proffered by the world makes one think otherwise. Hence, no matter what u believe, you can't be too sure. Its therefore only proper to lay d issue to rest as arguing, researching or praying about it won't make you any surer |
