Education / ASUU Strike May Be Called Off Soon As FG Blinks by lawsbanks: 8:38am On Oct 17, 2013
Towards ending the ongoing ASUU strike, the Federal Government has committed to spending N200 billion in the 2014 budget on the universities as well as on each of the next three-four years until the universities are brought to world-class standard.  This is in addition to the N100 billion dedicated and already made available for 2013.
The government has also increased to N40 billion as a first installment, funds for the payment of earned allowances to the striking lecturers, an improvement from the N30 billion previously released.
This information is contained in an internal Federal University of Otuoke statement by Professor Bolaji Aluko, its Vice-Chancellor, seen on Wednesday night by SaharaReporters.
On the earned allowances, he explained, “Government will top it up with further releases once universities are through with the disbursement of this new figure of N40 million, so Vice-Chancellors are urged to expedite this disbursement within the shortest possible time using guiding templates that have been sent by the CVC,” the circular said.
Professor Aluko said the development followed meetings on September 19 and Oct 11 of representatives of the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, led by CVC Chairman, Prof. Hamisu of ATBU and ASUU Representatives led by its President, Dr. N. Fagge with the Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Arc. Namadi. Sambo, Minister of Education Barr. N. Wike and others.
Of great interest to stakeholders, Vice-President Sambo, appealing to ASUU to call off the strike, apologized for the "take-it-or-leave-it" comments credited to the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala at the onset of the strike.  The Minister did not seem to have been involved in either meeting, perhaps as the government’s way of soothing the feelings of the university teachers.
Other points of agreement at the meetings include the following:
Project Prioritization: Universities will now be allowed to determine their priorities and not be “rail-roaded” into implementing a pre-determined set of projects with respect to the NEEDS assessment. Decisions are not to be centralized.
TETFund Intervention: Government assured that the operations of the TETFund will not be impaired, and that the regular TETFund intervention disbursement to Universities will continue, unaffected. So the NEEDS assessment capital outlays are in addition to regular TETFund intervention.
Project Monitoring: A new Implementation Monitoring Committee (IMC) for the NEEDS Assessment intervention for universities has been set up to take over from the Suswan Committee. The new one is under the Federal Ministry of Education and chaired by the Honorable Minister of Education. In addition, to build confidence and ensure faithful implementation and prevent any relapse as before, the Vice President will meet quarterly with the IMC to monitor progress.
Blueprint: ASUU was mandated to submit a blue print for revitalizing the Universities to the Vice President.
Prof. Aluko further stated that a signed document will soon be issued to itemize the full issues on which the consensus he had outlined here, as brokered by AVCNU, was reached.

alexleo:

From what that verse said, its obvious he left the faith because paul said Demas deserted him because of the love of this present world. His statement didn't suggest that demas left him because of a difference he had with him on the issue of a particular teaching or doctrine but the LOVE OF THIS PRESENT WORLD. And of course Jesus said- whosoever loveth the world, the love of the father is not in him.
if you have read through paul's sojourn you will realize that he is a man that makes risky journeys even when prophets told him about the doom to befall him in a certain city, he still went ahead.......Demas must have left paul for the fear of physical death and probably a lot of stress, love of family, etc,.......that scripture is inconclusive of Demas leaving the faith.......pls be fair on Demas

Politics / Hoodlums Fight Over Money Found On Crash Victims by lawsbanks: 5:35am On Oct 04, 2013
Some hoodlums on Thursday were seen exchanging blows and throwing bottles at one another over the money they found on the dead victims of the Associated Airline plane crash.

When our correspondent got to the scene of the incident, he observed that the hoodlums had turned the road leading to the crash site to a boxing ground.

It was learnt that when the hoodlums were assisting in the evacuation of the victims, they allegedly searched the victims’ pockets for money and other valuable things.

It was also learnt that they fight ensued due to alleged ‘insincerity’ in the sharing of the money they stole from the dead.

One of the hoodlums, identified simply as Loko, was heard saying, “You won’t believe that after the whole rescue thing, we luckily found money and they don’t want to share it equally.”

Over time, I ressigned using my left foot meaning only my right foot did all the job. Nowadays any time I try taking my left foot any where the brake pedal to give even the slightest pressure, it results to an error. I over depress the damn brake pedalangry Gosh I missed those sweet good ol' days when I do the two feet driving technique cry But... I shall bounce back someday wink
you're right about over pressing the brake when you use the left foot! It happened to me when I switched to automatic.....I guess its because the left foot is used to pressing the clutch down
Education / What Is Nans? National Association Of Nigerian Students? by lawsbanks: 2:17am On Aug 22, 2013
What is the usefulness of this association to the nigerian students? Who are those in the executives? What are they up to? Do they occupy this offices just to sap money from nigerian politicians? Or they are there to give awards to undeserving citizens for the sake of financial gains from this political figures? Not even a word from them since this strike started! Now this are the people that will want to become our minister of education, minister of finance, commisioners, and even president in future! They can't even say a word to this ugly situation that has put nigerian students in idle mode for more than 50 days. Obviously they are not concerned. I urge all nigerian students to use every media possible to speak up and shun cowardice!

@OP, i hope you wheren't expecting me to read all that?

Buh Nigerians wait a minute ooh - leta all of yhu would call the First Lady a "mere domestic appendage" and a "gbagaurian" but yhu all "wide appendages" and "grammarians" are composing wonderful piece and scripts for just one woman (DM-domestic appendage) !!

Niger i hail ooh, if she is really what you all are calling - why not snub her and behave as if she doesn't exists?

I really respect Jonathan if not for anything but his silence. It proves he is a leader and he is above all of you (me exclusive)

you can't expect a Lion to have word exchange with a fly, its impossible...thats what he is proving by his silence.
Mynd you, if there is anything i fear its "silence" . I prefer yhu insult me or reply me bad than for yhu to keep mute, it shows yhur being higher/wiser than me and it makes you unpredictable.

Now for those of you ranting that GeJ should call PeJ to other - i know yhu all would want him to publicly disgrace his own wife for you all to be self satisfied right? It simply shows y'all have no respect for the women. The woman who suffered with you when yhu where a nobody, strived with yhu till yhu made it to the top, should be left out as a mere domestic appendage now that yhu are the president right? Or because she is the First Lady she is no man's wife?

The woman "over do" her things ...a big "YES" to that, buh you all that understand the female and mankind would be able to know that "the stamarer get angry quicker than the one easy on speech"

The disable when insult feels the pain more when thesame stuff is said to the able. There are things you say to a man, he wil overlook buh the woman would bark. These yhu should put into yhur skull and try to understand what it is. Wole and others should know that its not all about being well known, they should try and have some emotional understanding of what they write. Publicly insulting(thereby calling it an advise) the first Lady does not show yhu a man of integrity, it shows yhu a man that attempt a problem as it is seen - instead of understanding it.
The Life is too short to be a hater, criticizer (whether constructive or wateva), we should learn to be humane sometimes!

prophet t.b joshua is a man of God and a prophet sent to our generation, you forgot to add the prediction of dana air crash and the various matches he has predicted. not even the devil can give such clear predictions, he may be criticised but i know and believe he is a man that have stood the test of time despite various criticisms. may God continually use him
Imanuel Jannah:
Popular Nigerian Pastor, Prophet, and Televengelist - T. B. Joshua is one of the most misunderstood preachers in Nigeria. I invite you to take a closer look at these 7 facts you may not have known about this charismatic leader of the Synagogue Church of all Nation, Lagos.

1. According to FORBES Magazine, T. B. Joshua is one of the wealthiest pastors in Nigeria. He is said to be worth roughly $10-15 million in cash.

2. Africa's greatest and most influential leaders visit him regularly. A few names are; late President John Atta-Mills of Ghana, Zimbabwean Prime Minister-Morgan Tsvangirai, Winnie Nelson Mandela, Patience Goodluck Jonathan, Former Zambian President-Kenneth Kaunda etc

3. Some of his predictions, as a prophet, are are true. Whereas, others are not. For instance, his Prediction of Michael Jackson's demise was exactly fulfilled, but his prophecy about the Boko Haram menace becoming history by 2012 was not fulfilled.

4. T. B. Joshua is one of the greatest Philanthropists in Nigeria. According to Forbes Magazine, He has given away about $20million in the last three years. He was given the national honour of OFR for his charitable work.

5. Major African celebrities are his fans. Nollywood actress - Tontoh Dikeh said she was able to break her 15yr smoking habit as a result of Prophet T. B. Joshua's influence. Camilla Mberekpe, Denise Williams of Ghana, John Fashanu etc are other top celebrity fans of the prophet.

6. T. B. Joshua's mother carried him for 1 year and 6 months in her womb before she gave birth to him

7. He is the most criticized Nigerian pastor. Some other pastors have gone as far as setting up blogs such as; TB Joshua Watch designed to scrutinise and crticise the man in the synagogue.

Now that you know a little more about the popular prophet, what's your take on his activities?

Nairaland / General / Re: 10 Misconceptions About Nigerian Filling Stations. by lawsbanks: 7:32pm On Jul 05, 2013
Thanks for the information! But I'd like to ask of the known fact that when u carry a gallon to some filling stations, the gallon seldom gets filled while in some others u may begin to look for another gallon to put ur remaining fuel.......
Mobsync: 1. The filling station with most commercial transporters as customers is the best.

Ntoi tongue! You've been deceiving yourself. The filling station with alot commercial drivers and motorcyclists as customers is not usually the best. Their customer base depends on location and sometimes, how attractive the filling station looks- nothing else. Besides, transporters tend to use a particular station because they'll be offered some free fuel if they purchase a particular amount.

2. If the meter isn't rubbed, it would continue from the figure shown on the screen.

This’s untrue for digital meters used in filling stations. Once the machine's off, the meter starts from zero irrespective of what was on it when you arrived. It's only when the machine isn't off that it continues from the figure on the meter. But to be on the safer side, I suggest you always make sure the attendant rubs the meter.

3. The faster the pump dispensing speed, the smaller the fuel sold.

Today, we have super fast jets, boats, cars, missiles and yes, fuel dispensing pumps. Filling stations are supposed to be places you go, purchase fuel and leave as fast as possible thus, pumps are made to be fast with new variants made to be faster. So stop saying; "this your pump is too fast" after purchasing fuel or do you want to spend the whole day there?

4. Fuel remains in the hose after sales.

Some meters start reading the moment fuel leaves the pump to the hose while some, when the fuel leaves the underground tank, it depends on where the engine (turbine) is. So after being attended to, fuel remains on the hose, right? Not really.
Let me explain it like this; when you sip a drink with a straw and stop afterwards, you notice that droplets might remain in the straw and these droplets, as you've probably noticed are usually negligible. That's the same way a filling station pump operates. Due to the very high pressure used when dispensing the fuel, nothing remains in the hose and if something remains, it's usually negligible.

5. Filling stations always have change.

As you probably know, smaller denomination currencies are becoming an endangered species in Nigeria, with special thanks to Mr Sanusi Lamido of CBN who wants them scrapped and Nigerian banks who deploy only 1000 naira notes and in rare cases, 500 naira notes to their ATM's. Besides most customers who go to filling stations don't bring change and when they do, it's usually bad or faded money. People are also known to rob filling station attendants in the guise of seeking for change or like in my case, attempt to change "fake" money.

6. Filling stations run on generators 24/7.

Filling stations are like other regular businesses vying for survival. They also use PHCN but have usually have 2 or more generators on stand-by. So should there be power outage when you're being attended to, don't panic. Where your sales stopped would be displayed the moment power is restored. But note that after power's been restored, some pumps can't continue selling from there but start all over from zero so ensure you know how much fuel has been sold to you and how much more remains. Clear?

7. The attendant is a poor, hungry wrecked illiterate.

Just like me, some of these attendants are students of higher institutions on holiday or strike, , B.Sc, OND.HND, college of education graduates or even youth corpers awaiting posting. They're just doing the job to keep body and soul together. That's why if you frequent a filling station regularly, you'll notice that the attendants tend to be replaced frequently.

8. All filling station owners are rich.

Wrong! As explained earlier, filling stations are just like other businesses trying to survive. The owners are not usually "swimming" in money as most people believe. Infact, due to the unpredictable nature of the Nigerian oil sector, alot of these filling stations depend on bank loans to survive. Doubt me? Ask your banker friend.

9. The attendant must hold the nozzle during sales.

Back there at the filling station where I worked, I met customers who wanted me to hold the nozzle all through the sales. Fact is, nozzles have a knob which can be used to hold down the part the attendant presses down so when the attendant hangs the nozzle, stop shouting and making unnecessary noise, if no fuel is being sold, the meter won't read- chikena!

10. Filling stations sell air.

If you needed air, you should have visited a vulcanizer or simply left your tank open.
Liquid (not air) has to pass through the pump itself if the meter's to read. If the meter's reading, then it means fuel's being sold. Forget about putting your ear or hand near your fuel tank to know whether it's warm. AIR CAN'T BE SOLD, so stop deceiving yourself.

.

SOURCE: ME. I once worked at a filling station during my 100-200 level holidays and I got to know all these. I also wrote two articles about filling stations for aabnigeria.com but won’t be able to post them here due to their policies against copying full articles.
