TRUE Be Told
Politics / It's A Shame Nigeria Still Imports, Eggs, Toothpick, Sugar, Wheat - CBN Gov by Leaventainment: 4:11pm On Jun 25, 2015
The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, says it is a shameful thing that Nigeria to still be importing some basic items such as wheat, eggs, toothpicks and others into the country when such items should be produced in Nigeria. Speaking at a news conference yesterday June 24th, Mr Emefiiele said to discourage the importation of such items, the CBN, banks and bureaux de change offices will henceforth seize to offer foreign exchange to business men & women who import such goods.

According to Mr Emefiele, the move by the CBN is to encourage the production of such items in Nigeria.
"Most of you are aware of the often-quoted number of N1.3 trillion, which is what we spend on average importing rice, fish, sugar, and wheat every year. I am saying it is shameful that we have to import toothpick. I am saying that it is shameful for us to import fish in sauce canned, fish in sauce and sardine. I am saying it is shameful. Before I was born palm kernel was taken out of Nigeria and taken to another country and today we go to that country and import palm oil. It is shameful. It is shameful that items that we used to produce in this country we now begin to import them.
It is shameful and we need to stop them. That is what we are saying. Only last week, I met the Governor of Kebbi State and he lamented the unfortunate situation in that state. Where people, our own farmers, have committed themselves to producing rice and have produced paddy and we have paddy glut in Kebbi State today. As I speak, the government has spent its money buying paddy from the rice farmers, almost close to 200,000 of paddy rice. Aside from that, Kebbi State farmers have unpurchased paddy rice close to 800,000 tons. And yet we patronise imported rice.
For our benefits, those rice imported to the country are those that have spent at least seven years in their stores and yet we have rice that is produced today in Nigeria and we are running away from them. The only way we can encourage people who are producing rice to go back to the farms is to do what we have done today. How can we keep complaining about the depreciation of the naira when all we do as a people is to import everything from ordinary Geisha and toothpicks to even eggs? These are some of the fundamental reasons behind the bank’s recent announcement.”he said
He warned that any bank or bureau de change outlet that offers foreign exchange to any business owner who imports such goods will be sanctioned
"Foreign exchange will not be provided by the Central Bank of Nigeria, the banks or by bureaux de change. If we find people flouting it, luckily these people we have mentioned are under our regulation, we know how to deal with them"he said

Politics / Why Buhari Won’t Intervene In NASS Crisis – Aide by Leaventainment: 4:03pm On Jun 25, 2015
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, on Thursday said President Muhammadu Buhari would not intervene in the leadership crisis currently rocking the National Assembly until the All Progressives Congress’ state governors ask him to do so.

Shehu said this while featuring on Sunrise, a programme of a Lagos-based private television station, ChannelsTV.

He said Buhari would only step into the matter at the point when the APC state governors inform him that they cannot fix the problem.

He said that was necessary because the governors had during a meeting they had with the President on Tuesday night promised to handle the issue.

He said, “When the governors met with the President, they told him that ‘we are the leaders in our states and we have influence over all of these senators. They come from our places and from us and we can handle it.’

“The President will step into the crisis at the point when the governors say they can no longer fix it.”

In the event that he decides to intervene, the presidential spokesman said Buhari would not do that to the level of imposing leaders on the lawmakers.

Shehu said Buhari’s position on the matter had remained that the National Assembly is an independent arm of government and he would not be seen meddling in their affairs.

He said the governors while advising the President to maintain his posture, asked him to allow them handle the matter their own way.

He said the President has a responsibility to the party and to the nation.

He also said despite what was currently playing out in the National Assembly, the situation had not gone out of control.

“The President has a responsibility to the party, the President has a responsibility to the nation and as far as we are looking at the situation it has not gotten out of control. It is still within manageable parameters, it is a little storm we will overcome and Nigerians better get used to it,” he added.

Apparently reacting to a statement credited to the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Muhammed, that Buhari is not the leader of the party, Shehu said the President was the leader.

“Does it need to be said? I don’t think it needs to be said that the President is the leader of his party. There’s no question about it,” he declared.

He added that there is need for Nigerians to understand the basics of politics as the country is no more in the military era when decrees are made by a single leader.

“Politics, as its theory says, is basically about contest for interests and these interests may be fully defined by political party programme, while some of these things may be outside political party programme,” he said.

While corroborating Buhari’s claim that he inherited virtually empty treasury, the presidential spokesman challenged Nigerians to ask a former Minister of National Planning, Dr. Abubakar Suleiman, to give further explanations on the $30billion he claimed the former government left behind.

Politics / Assassins Are After My Lawyer – Suspended PDP Chairman by Leaventainment: 3:35pm On Jun 25, 2015
Suspended Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, Bayelsa State chapter, Col. Sam Inokoba (retd.), has told the State High Court that strange persons suspected to be hired assassins are trailing his lead counsel, Chief Sylvanus Abila.

Inokoba, who said his lawyer was being trailed day and night, stated that the development started since he (Abila) began to handle the suit challenging the decision of the PDP to expel nine leaders of the party in the state.

The embattled Inokoba, while speaking during the court’s session presided over by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Kate Abiri, said his counsel “now receives strange phone calls asides being trailed by certain unknown faces within Yenagoa.”

Inokoba said Abila, who was engaged to carry out his legitimate duty as a legal practitioner, should not be intimidated for any reason in the course of the various court proceedings instituted to regain his mandate as the authentic and elected State Chairman of the PDP.

At the hearing, a fresh substantive suit challenging the appointment of Chief Serena Dokubo-Spiff as Acting State Chairman of the PDP was filed before the court.

In the originating summons filed by Abila, lead counsel for Inokoba, the plaintiff was asking the court to nullify the appointment of an Acting Chairman as he said it was contrary to the relevant sections of the PDP’s constitution.

There are two substantive cases before the court in the suit numbers YHC/86/2015 filed on the June 15, 2015 and YHC/80/2015 filed on June 8, 2015. These cases were filed after an earlier one was withdrawn.

In the new suits, the plaintiff prayed the court to declare the action of the PDP Disciplinary Committee headed by Mr.Cleopas Moses null and void for contravening the party’s constitution.

Inokoba is also seeking an order of interlocutory injunction restraining the 1st to 10th defendants which included Governor Seriake Dickson and Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Kemasuode Wodu, from taking any further investigation of alleged misconduct against him pending the determination of the substantive suits.

In the suit number YHC/80/2015, the defendants are Governor Seriake Dickson as 1st defendant, Attorney-General as 2nd defendant and Chief Serena Dokubo-Spiff as 3rd defendant.

In the suit, the plaintiff asked the court to determine whether Chief Dokubo-Spiff could hold the office of Acting State PDP Chairman while at the same time serving as a Commissioner in the Bayelsa State Judicial Commission.

Inokoba said as the duly elected State Chairman of the PDP, he was also seeking an order restraining Dokubo-Spiff from parading himself as the Acting State Chairman of the PDP in Bayelsa State.

In this suit, both the Governor and the Attorney-General had been duly served by the court baillif but Chief Dokubo-Spiff had reportedly been evading service.

To be able to get Chief Dokubo-Spiff served, Abila has filed an ex parte motion to use substituted service by pasting the court processes at the entrance to the PDP Secretariat along Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha Road in Yenagoa.

Abila restated that it would be a disrespect to the judicial system and abuse for Chief Dokubo-Spiff or anyone to continue to refer to him as Acting Chairman of the party when a substantive case challenging that position was before a law court.
