I am also a Warrior like you, but a milder form(sc), and to the glory of God I will be graduating with a First Class Degree in Medical Laboratory science.

Though I rarely have episodes, I manage my situations in school to avoid it.


I don't know the course you want to study or the one your parents wants you to study, but whatever course you want to study should never stress you physically. My dream was to become an Engineer but my Dad discouraged me of this due to my condition and I found solace in my new found love.



Your course of study shouldn't make you depress because you have Many battles yet to fight. The world is not fair to anyone and dont expect a leveled playing ground. So far the course is not stressful then anything worth doing is worth doing well.



My advise to you and other warriors as a comrade in battle, equip yourself mentally and be a formidable foe. Make academics your passion, because any other area of life requires physical exertion which we won't be able to compete with others.

Programming has no age limit. Many real life programmers are old and mature men. Forget about those who are just making online noise on Nairaland calling themselves programmers and discouraging you. Many of them are just learner's and dreamers, they have never developed any tangible application before.

Many serious programmers don't have time for online chatting, they are either indoor coding or chasing programming contracts. You only need to be focus and be self-decipline. Pitch your tent with one or two particular languages based on areas of good modern programming languages you like to major and stop being driven away by big names in programming languages.

You need to first settle with areas you want to focus like building desktop applications (that can run on Windows, Mac, Linux and Raspberry Pi), you can also major in Mobile App (that can run on Android, iOS or window mobile), you may also decide to pitch your tent with website development (using languages like html, CSS, JavaScript, Php and mysql ..using coding approach or using third-party applications like Dreamweaver, frontpage, Joomla or WordPress etc).

If you are good with electronic or you studied computer engineering or electronic engineering or have background experiences in electronic, you may also want to focus on embedded systems programming ( where you program ICs, microcontrollers, Arduino, and iot and automation related programming).

Programming field is wide and learning curve has no end, but first settle about areas you like so you can come to second stage of choosing programming languages that you can flow with to acheive your dream. There are millions of existing programming languages, but be guided don't be lost here.

Any reasonable modern programming language can acheive what you want, pick one or two and stay focus till you grow in programming to explore other languages for fun. Another question you must answer by yourself is why you want to learn programming? Is it for fun or you want to choose it as career?

If it is for career, I will advise you to combine mobile application development with your web development interest. With mobile, even if there is no contract job, you can develop simple application that you can put on Google play or iOS side or sell in your local market if you package it well and earn money while you are waiting for contract job on web development.

Learning programming initially is hard and demands concentration and high sense of discipline, but the end is always joyous as you can quickly become financially independent. So, many serious programmers today all over the world are old men who are still in 60,70 and 80 years old.

You can do your undergrand study, forget about online noise of those people programming with mouth. While younger ones are comming up, old men who created opportunity or invented something during Fortran, Cobol and VB1 to 6 etc are also counting on their experiences to blend with other new languages to remain relevant in the programming market to maintain their inventions

I don't have much time to explain in detail by writing, but believe me, you are still very young in programming world if you wish to learn and your experience will also count in identifying and solving real-life problems when you master any programming of your choice. If you remain focus, in two years, you should be one of the problem solvers the world is waiting for.

It has being few months since I began to learn a language( python to be precise). Data science / Machine learning is my proposed fort.

From your advise above, I can see that you didn't make mention of data science at all. I have being doing some findings, (quora, Reddit) people's opinion and i have reached a logical conclusion that Data science has more teachers than practitioners. And in suport of this, advert for learning data science is much more than job placement.
As you stated above, I am trying to switch path, thinking of Java. ( app developer).
Data science is cool to me, but I don't want to be committed to a venture that won't be profitable. I am not saying Data science is not lucrative, but I want something favorable in my environment ( Nigeria labor market).

Wendy literally signed the death order of his brother, the day she asked him to stay albeit the husband opinion that he should leave.
As Helen said, mental and there line of business don't go together. But strongheadness of Wendy makes her myopic.

Now that Helen is dead, who will be making the tough decisions for the Brydes?? Hopefully Wendy, because they need it. If not for the intervention of Helen, the therapist would have in one way or the other implicated them.

I'm so sorry I haven't made any posts in 2 days. Truth is I've had conjunctivitis (both eye) for more than a week now and it's still present despite all drugs prescribed making it quite difficult to type coz looking at my screen for a long time is quite strenuous .

Living with Sickle cell anemia has always being an herculean task, but I give thanks to God. Due to the nature of my of my HB which Sc, I rarely have crisis nowadays, it had even been years that I have crisis last.

Even though I rarely have crisis, am not stress free. Any little hectic activity wears me out; even reading for long hours also stress me out.

Myopic Astigmatism has also being my issue for sometime now. Any little exposure to strong ray of light gives me headache and blurs my vision.



With my limited knowledge of these condition, Hb SS is not a death sentence. I just see it as a little aberration in haemopoesis that can be corrected. Eating of balance diet, regular intake of Vit B12, Folic acid , and living a good lifestyle by alcohol abstinence, prevention of body dehydration ( regularly drinking water), staying away from extremely cold area, will all help in promoting ones health.

Don't get confused by all these people talking one thing or the other here, that is nairaland for you; most of them don't know when someone is serious.

Let me tell you something, there is something they call "mutation", its a kind of variation or alteration in the genotype of the offsprings. Normally, parents with AA and AA genotype will never have an offspring with AS but if mutation occurs, there is alteration and they will have an offspring with AS genotype, atleast one. Likewise parents with AA and AS like your parents are supposed to have offsprings with AA and AS gentypes but if mutation occurs, one of you is likely to have SS and its unfoortunate you happen to be the one that the mutation occured, so they are your parents and dont feel bad. You can get married to a guy with AA and have AS offsprings and you live your normal like. I am AA and I can get married to any lady regardless of her genotype so long there is love.

Mutation is always rare but it happens sometimes, so don't listen to these people. Goodluck.
