Crime / Armed Robbers Kill Guard, As Police Arrest One, Recover 2 Vehicles(pics) by LeeMason(m): 9:42am On May 20, 2021
One member of a suspected armed robbery gang that operated and killed a security guard in a warehouse at Sango-Otta, Ogun State, has been nabbed.

The dare devil robbers were determined to operate on the warehouse at Ipamesan area of Sango but felt the guard would obstruct them, and first had to kill him to gain access into the warehouse.

While still busy looting the warehouse, a distress call was put across to Sango-Otta Police Divisional Headquarters, a call the DPO, CSP Godwin Idehai, quickly responded to, mobilized his patrol team and raced to the scene.

According to the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the armed robbers, who had earlier snatched two vehicles, fled the Ipamesan robbery scene towards Joju, with the operatives chasing them.

At a point, when the policemen almost caught up with them, the marauders opened fire on them, all in a bid to escape. A retaliatory superior firepower of the detectives forced the armed robbers to finally flee, abandoning the two vehicles, a Lexus Jeep and Toyota Matrix car.

While escaping, the PPRO said, the policemen still went after them and succeeded in the apprehension of one of them, identified as Henry Obe.

In Oyeyemi's words: "Due to the superior firepower of the policemen, they abandoned the two robbed vehicles, a Lexus RS 330, with registration number FKJ 691 FW, snatched from one Dosumu Kazeem, and a Toyota Matrix car, marked MUS 835 FW, snatched from one Ibrahim Lateef, and took to their heels. The team pursued them, and one of the robbers, later identified as Henry Obe, was arrested in the process.

"It was later discovered, that the hoodlums had shot a guard attached to a warehouse, owned by one Yinka Oduwale, before gaining access and looted the said warehouse. The guard was rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead", the Police spokesman said.

The two vehicles, one long gun, 41 laptops, 2DVD players, 2 phones and 3 tablet gadgets, were said to have been recovered from the robbers.

"Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation. He also directed the crack detectives to go after the remaining members of the gang, with the view to bring them to justice within the shortest possible period", the statement added.

About 1,000 residents have been evacuated from an Indonesian village after a massive fire at a nearby oil refinery.

The inferno at the Pertamina Balongan Refinery in West Java province sent huge plumes of orange flames and black smoke over four storage tanks on the refinery’s grounds early Monday morning. A spokesman for Pertamina says five people are being treated for burns.

The cause of the fire is unknown, although the blaze started during a lightning storm. Agence France Presse says one person had died from a heart attack after an explosion at the Pertamine plant, located about 225 kilometers east of Jakarta.

Pertamina chief executive Nicke Widyawati said operations at the plant have been shut down as rescue crews continue to battle the blaze..

Politics / Prepare To Own, Run Modular Refineries- Pap To Ex-agitators by LeeMason(m): 4:43pm On Mar 18, 2021
The Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP, has called on its beneficiaries to get ready to learn the periquisites of owning and running modular refineries following ongoing measures by the Federal Government to integrate artisanal refiners into the oil and gas sector.

The Sole Administrator, PAP, Col. Milland Dixon Dikio, said the scheme was ready to train the ex-agitators into the business of refining crude oil to intensify manpower development and increase refining capacity for economic prosperity.

In a statement signed by the Special Adviser, Media to the Interim Administrator, Nneotaobase Egbe, said Dikio spoke in Abuja at a summit organized by the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning in collaboration with the Office of Senior Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs and Economic Diversification.

Diko represented by his Special Adviser on Finance and Projects, Mr. Godwin Ekpo, at the summit entitled, Integrating Local Artisanal Modular Refineries to Nigeria’s Mainstream Oil Sector, said training and engaging ex-agitators on local refining of crude oil would facilitate rapid development of the region.

He said it would minimise oil theft, reduce unemployment in the region, minimise pollution and give them and the locals a sense of belonging.

His words : “Getting our delegates to participate actively in this artisanal and modular refining initiative will among other things give them a sense of belonging, minimize oil theft, reduce unemployment in the region, minimize pollution and provide pipeline surveillance and eradicate pipeline vandalization.”

Dikio (rtd), who commended the organisers of the summit, said that the programme had trained over 3000 delegates in fabrication, pipeline and underwater welding, petroleum technology and engineering.

He revealed that the Bradama International Skill Works Ltd in Agadagba Obon, Ondo State, a training facility owned by an ex-agitator, Peter Bibopere Ajube aka General Shoot-at-Site, was one of the success stories of PAP.

He said the former agitator had successfully trained and employed delegates in fabrication and steel works, pipeline welding among others in his facility.

He also disclosed that the Amnesty Vocational Training Facility in Agadagba, Ondo State, which specialized in oil and gas activities was part of PAP’s initiatives to build manpower in the region.

The statement recalled that one of the intentions of Late President Musa Yar’Adua in setting up the PAP was to get the money invested in the programme to circulate within the region through massive manpower development and patronage of businesses located in the Niger Delta.

The statement further said that objective was to increase the buying power of the people and drive investment while mitigating the security issues adding that the current leadership of PAP was committed to restoring the mandate of the programme to its original intent.

Foreign Affairs / Judge Reinstates Murder Charge Against Derek Chauvin For George Floyds Death by LeeMason(m): 4:04pm On Mar 11, 2021
Former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin now faces an additional murder charge in the death of George Floyd after a Hennepin County judge reinstated a charge of third-degree murder on Thursday.

Chauvin already faced charges of second-degree unintentional murder and second-degree manslaughter, and jury selection in his trial began Tuesday. He has pleaded not guilty. It's unclear if the new charge could impact the trial's expected start date of March 29.

Chauvin was initially charged with third-degree murder in the days after Floyd's death, but Hennepin County District Court Judge Peter Cahill dismissed the count in October, saying it did not apply to the circumstances of this case. The state appealed that ruling and the Minnesota Court of Appeals ordered Cahill to reconsider the motion to reinstate the charge last week.
The third-degree murder charge, sometimes known as "depraved mind" murder, was most recently used in the trial against former Minneapolis Police officer Mohamed Noor. He was convicted of the charge after prosecutors said he fired his gun at a person outside of his squad car's window, killing Justine Ruszczyk and endangering his own partner.

Chauvin's defense attorney Eric Nelson argued in court Thursday that Noor's case was factually and procedurally different than Chauvin's interactions with Floyd, in which he knelt on Floyd's head and neck area for an extended period. However, prosecutors said the judge was bound to follow the appeals court's precedent.
Floyd's final moments were captured on disturbing police and bystander video, and his death led to unrest and fires in the city as well as worldwide protests against police brutality and racism. All four officers involved were fired, and Chauvin is being tried separately due to coronavirus-related limits on courtroom space.
According to Minnesota law, the maximum sentence for second-degree murder is 40 years and for third-degree murder it is 25 years.

Politics / We Did Not Embezzle N3BN Agric Loan, Scheme Ongoing- Bayelsa Govt by LeeMason(m): 4:32pm On Mar 07, 2021
The Bayelsa Government on Saturday denied allegations that the N3 billion Agriculture loan from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) was diverted by government officials.

Mr David Alagoa, Bayelsa Commissioner for Agriculture in a radio programme monitored by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yenagoa described the allegations as false, baseless and childish.

Dr John Idumange, a former General Manager of Bayelsa Broadcasting Corporation had alleged diversion of N3 billion agricultural loan obtained by the immediate past administration led by Chief Seriake Dickson.

Idumange, who was an aide on Research and Documentation to Dickson, who was governor from 2012 to 2020, claimed the present administration was diminishing the efforts of Dickson’s government.

He claimed that he had so far, recorded 17 cases of diversion of the N3 billion loan obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Idumange also claimed that he would report the alleged fraud to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) when the count reaches 25.

Meanwhile, former governor, Dickson had in a press statement on Friday, washed his hands off the allegations, and urged his supporters to close ranks and work for the success of Diri’s administration.

Speaking on the allegations, Alagoa said that the first tranche of N1.5 billion facility which was received in March 2020 for infrastructure has been deployed to upgrade the existing cassava processing plant and set up two rice mills.

He said that the facilities where the funds were spent on were available for any interested person to visit and inspect adding that the CBN has stringent inbuilt governance mechanisms to guard against abuse.

Alagoa dismissed claims made by Idumange who called into the programme to allege that a paltry sum of N50,000 was disbursed to few farmers whilst government officials shared the rest as false and without merit.

“It is either Idumange does not understand or does not want to understand or is on a mission to discredit this administration, let me state right here that we are open to criticism as we do not have a monopoly of knowledge.

“We welcome constructive criticisms as long as they are factual and true, but Idumange did not get his facts right and maybe the information at his disposal is from another state and not Bayelsa.

“I therefore, challenge him to prove that money was shared by government officials because no such thing happened and the projects for which the funds were meant are there for inspection.

“It is also false that N50,000 was disbursed to few beneficiaries. We have 3,500 beneficiaries who qualified even though we had planned for up to 6,000 farmers but due to financial inclusion issues.

“Many of the farmers who do not have functional bank accounts with Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) were screened out. So the 3,500 beneficiaries received N50,000 for land ploughing and preparation.

“The programme is structured in such a way that funds are remitted at various stages in the farming process, currently we are distributing inputs for rice and cassava farmers whitefish inputs would be distributed later this month.

“Our policy on Agriculture is to promote farming by resident to achieve food security, while the government assists them by mechanising the process and the tractors acquired are already in our custody ready for use,” Alagoa said.

Idumange alleged that more than one year after the first tranche of the loan was received, nothing has been achieved beyond land clearing but Alagoa noted that the lockdown occasioned by the COVID-19 slowed down the process.

Crime / Bayelsa State Vigilante Rescues A Woman From Kidnappers(photos) by LeeMason(m): 9:44am On Feb 26, 2021
The Bayelsa State Vigilante Force yesterday arrested two alleged kidnappers, who held one Mrs. Judith Adoga on gunpoint and forced her to different ATM points within Yenagoa metropolis where they withdrew undisclosed amount of money from her account.

According to Mrs. Adoga, a staff of the Ministry for Budget and Economic Planning, she was going to drop her friend along Imgbi Road, Amarata, when the kidnappers numbering four came in the guise of being environmental officials and held her captive.

She said "after I closed from work, my friend pleaded that I drop her off at Imgbi Road. When we got to Imgbi roundabout and my friend came down from my car, four men rounded up my car, saying they are officials of environmental sanitation authority. After saying so they entered my car, pointed me guns and asked me to drive.

"They forced me to give them my ATM card and take them to different ATM points where they withdrew all the money in my account. Afterwards, they then called my family members with my phone, demanding money that would serve as ransom for my release.

"So, it was at that point one my relations called the Chairman of the Bayelsa Vigilante Force who mobilized his men and rescued me from my abductors."

Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Bayelsa Vigilante Force, Hon. Doubiye Alagba and his Secretary, Hon. Innocent Kaliango said that when they got the distress call from a family member of the victim, the quickly mobilized their team and tracked the kidnappers to Tamic Road, Okutukutu, where two of the abductors were arrested while the other two escaped.

He gave the names of the two armed abductors as Engman Eniyi from Sangana Community in Brass LGA and Ebimobowe Tombofa from Igbenwari in Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA.

Speaking further, he said "this operation wouldn't have been successful without information, i have always stated it clearly that without information from members of the public, fighting crime, criminality other security challenges will know no success.

"We shouldn't play politics with security, security agencies need information to fight crime. The Bayelsa state government today, led by His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri is poised to bring insecurity to it barest minimum if only our people will corporate with security agencies.

"Bayelsa remains one of the safest state for business and its people to stay, we will continue doing our best to assist in fighting crime and criminality as enshrined in our mandate."

Meanwhile the suspects have been handed over to the Special Weapon Tactical team (SWAT) of the Nigeria Police Force, Bayelsa State Command for further investigation and prosecution.

Hello Nairalanders.

I need help setting up an LPG pump station like in the picture below. Inputs by professionals in this field would be highly appreciated.

How much would it cost to set up a single pump LPG dispenser and a 3-4tonnes (single) skid tank plus all relevant tools and equipment needed for the installation and connection.
How many KVA generator would I need to power the station.
Land has already been purchased and made available so please do not factor it in your estimation.
