The state Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos State, Mustapha Adekunle (Sego) has tackled the state treasurer of the union ,Suleiman Ojora (Kudeti) for taking appointment with the National President of the union, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo. Ojora, who was Oluomo's deputy when he was the state Chairman of union, was appointed by Oluomo as his Chief of Staff when he (Oluomo) became the National President. Addressing members of the union in Lagos on Friday, Sego said Ojora did not and has not officially informed him of his appointment as Oluomo's Chief of State. "My treasurer has not told me of his appointment in Abuja. May be he will tell me when he puts the issues of the past behind him." Ojora, who sat second to the right of Sego during the meeting, was cut unaware of Sego's comment. He simply nodded his head and laughed over the matter. There has been no love lost between MC Oluomo and Sego since the former handed over the reins of power to Sego last year. It took the intervention of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu before MC Oluomo agreed to handover to Sego. MC Oluomo was then persuaded to contest for the National President of the union. https://newsday.com.ng/nurtw-crisis-mustapha-sego-tackles-treasurer-for-taking-appointment-with-mc-oluomo/ |

A growing number of Yoruba conservatives have expressed strong opposition to Beulah Adeoye’s candidacy for Oyo State Governor. The backlash stems from Adeoye’s marriage to an Igbo woman, Ifeoma, and his decision to give his children Igbo names, Anayo and Ananya. Critics argue that Adeoye’s actions demonstrate a lack of pride in his Yoruba heritage and may indicate divided loyalty. “When your children’s names are Anayo and Ananya, your wife is Ifeoma, and you are Beulah, then you say you are Yoruba, I have my doubt,” stated a concerned citizen online. “At least you are not proud to be a Yoruba, that apart, Yoruba land does not want divided loyalty in our politics anymore if you want our vote” This sentiment is echoed by other Yoruba conservatives, who insist that Adeoye’s cultural identity is at odds with his desire to lead Oyo State. “Anyone with children who goes by the name Andela, Anaya or Anayo can’t rule any Yoruba state,” commented by seunmsg on Nairaland. “My advice, don’t waste your money” Adeoye’s interest has raised a heated debate about cultural identity, loyalty, and leadership in Oyo state. Adeoye wants to contest for the governorship seat under Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Adeoye who hails from Gbenagbena Compound in Ipapo in Itesiwaju Local Government Area officially joined the PDP on December 22, 2024. As the election approaches, it remains to be seen whether Adeoye can overcome the opposition and win the support of Yoruba voters. https://newsday.com.ng/yoruba-conservatives-reject-beulah-adeoyes-governorship-bid-over-igbo-ties/ |

Kinsmen of former Rivers governor, Dr. Peter Odili have pleaded with the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike to forgive their brother over his recent statement against him (Wike). Odili had remarked, without naming anyone, that Governor Siminialayi Fubara had effectively thwarted attempts by one individual to turn the state into a personal domain. In response Wike had claimed that Odili had taken ownership of the state for himself and asserted that he had revitalized Odili and his family, arguing that Odili had no grounds to criticize him. Weighing on the matter, Odili's kinsmen who spoke on Friday at a New Year luncheon organised by Wike in Port Harcourt, frowned at the attack by Odili on Wike, stating that it was unnecessary. The kinsmen said it was wrong for Odili, who they referred to as their father, to attack Wike after he (Odili) has rated the minister as the best governor Rivers State has produced. They pleaded with Wike to forgive Odili, stressing that Odili's comments were due to his old age. https://newsday.com.ng/forgive-his-utterances-against-you-odilis-kinsmen-beg-wike/

Notorious bandit leader Bello Turji has reportedly resumed violent activities along the Shinkafi road in Zamfara State, defying recent pleas from senior Fulani leaders to abandon his threats. Intelligence Sources confirmed that Turji and his men have been targeting travelers and communities along the road, causing widespread panic and disrupting movement in the area. The attacks come just few hours after top Fulani leaders from Shinkafi, Moriki, and Zurmi met with Turji to urge him to reconsider his plans for violence and to lift his blockade of the Shinkafi-Gusau road. During the meeting, the leaders appealed for calm and implored Turji to abandon his plans for abductions and killings, particularly in Zamfara and neighboring Sokoto State. They also urged him to release his grip on critical routes to ensure the free movement of people and goods. However, Turji gave no guarantees during the meeting, and it now appears that their efforts were unsuccessful. https://newsday.com.ng/bello-turji-launches-attacks-despite-plea-from-fulani-leaders/ |
Some top Fulani leaders from the Shinkafi, Moriki, and Zurmi regions of Zamfara State convened a pivotal meeting with the notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, at Ruga Chida, situated east of Kware town. This meeting was primarily aimed at persuading Turji to reconsider his recent threats to instigate violence in the region. During the discussions, the Fulani leaders appealed to Turji to lift his blockade of the Shinkafi-Gusau road and abandon plans to attack vulnerable communities in the Isa and Sabon Birni local government areas, along with other settlements in Zamfara and Sokoto States. Turji’s threats have been reportedly triggered by the government’s detention of some of his close associates including Wurgi, who was arrested in recent weeks. The intervention by the Fulani leaders, commonly referred to as Ardo Ardo (community leaders), represents a significant effort to de-escalate the rising tensions within the region. Their optimistic outlook suggests that their appeals may lead Turji to soften his resolve, which he has publicly stated he would intensify in 2025 if his demands are not fulfilled, including threats of kidnappings and killings. However, sources indicate that Turji has not made any firm commitments to halt his intentions. Despite this uncertainty, the ongoing dialogue is perceived as a constructive step towards reaching a peaceful resolution. https://newsday.com.ng/top-fulani-leaders-hold-talks-with-bello-turji-to-curb-violence-in-zamfara/ |

Officers from the Makinde Police station, Oshodi , Lagos have illegally detained two principal officers of the DOORT Community Development Association (CDA) in Oshodi/Isolo local government. The two officers, Maruf Yusuf and Saheed Oladeinde, who are the Chairman and Secretary of the CDA, had gone to the Makinde Police station to assist the police in their investigation on the fire incident that happened at No 13 Olowokere Street on Monday, August 19. A 60 year-old man lost his life in the inferno, which began around 2am from one of the rooms in the building. It took the intervention of fire fighters from the Lagos State Fire Services and community members before the fire was put off. The corpse was then moved to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH), Yaba by the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU). Our correspondent gathered that the owners of the building had gone to Makinde Police Station on the day of the incident to report the case. However, in their statements they lied that there was no loss of life. The matter took a new dimension when family members of the deceased reported at the station to report of a missing person in the burnt building. It was gathered the IPO in charge of the matter, Inspector Peter, later allowed the property owners to change their statements after allegedly collecting money from them. But when family members of the deceased insisted on seeing the corpse, the owners of the property and some tenants were detained. To assist the police with their investigation, Yusuf and Oladeinde on their own went to the station to debunk the lie that no live was lost and provide information on where the corpse was taking to. After taking their statements, the IPO with the support of his wife, who is also a police officer, further quizzed the CDA officers on the matter. The CDA officers were then detained several hours at the station before they were moved to the Lagos State Criminal Intelligence Investigation Department (SCIID) Panti. Narrating their ordeals, Oladeinde said they had gone to the station to shed more light on the fire incident and assist the police in their investigation. He described their arrest as illegal and uncalled for, adding that the system always tried to deter patriotic citizens from assisting the police when the need arises. He said”, I and the Chairman had gone to Makinde Police Station in respect of the fire incident at 13 Olowokere Street. We went on our own in order to assist the police in their investigation. “After taking our statements, the IPO in charge of the matter, Inspector Peter detained us without explaining his reasons .We were later transferred to Panti. “While in the bus, they rough handled us and took our phones. “The ride to Panti left me perplexed as to why we were being detained for trying to assist the police. “ When we met the head of the department in Panti, DCP Ahmed Lateef, he listened to our case and instructed the police to follow the lead we have provided in identifying the whereabouts of the corpse by going to IDH in Yaba. “He transferred to the case to SP Bunu for further investigation. “SP Bunu in company of the family members, Inspector Peter and one other senior officer visited IDH and were shown the charred body of the deceased. “Despite our innocence, the officers refused to grant us bail. We were kept in the cell and spent the night there. “We were later released on Friday afternoon on the orders of DCP Lateef as no case was established against us. “Those two days were some of the worst days of my life, Oladeinde said “We demand that Inspector Peter of Makinde Police station should be investigated in this matter.” https://newsday.com.ng/oshodi-fire-incident-police-illegally-detain-community-leaders-who-are-key-witnesses/
