Nice one nollyj. This is really cool... I have a suggestion, I think after guys must have learned new stuffs about Android Development, this program should end with a challenge where all eligible participants should create a full functioning Android App so as to compliment everything they've learned.
This might really make it really interesting. |

This is a very nice idea i must say. Its great. I really love the app. The UI is even okay, you can release the app and look into the UI later. I'm also a developer and i must confess, i'm envious of your idea.
Look into material design and redesign the UI so that some people won't be able to say rubbish about it. GOOD JOB ONCE AGAIN. |

Seriously, this guy is dumb. You finally clear my doubt of you being a programmer, how can someone keep ranting over what he doesnt know for Gods sake. Shit!!!. Do you think nairaland is full of novice/dummy programmers? Even, a two weeks old Java programmer knows that storing different objects in an array is not possible. class User { private int userID; } class Admin { private int adminID; } User[] users = new User[2]; users[0] = new Admin();
Any real Java programmer must be very sure that the code above is not possible to implement. And here is seunthomas ranting about shit, hes not even ashame of himself. I really mean this, Go And Learn....i can help you with that if you need it. |
Programming › Re: What The Different Between ENUM And ARRAY In Java by lekropasky(m): 7:35pm On Oct 05, 2016*. Modified: 7:51pm On Oct 05, 2016 |
seunthomas: Some people will just open their mouth to sha talk sha.
Please knowledgeable Java programmer, explain this code which is an array of objects and holds different types of object:
class Test{
public static void main(String args[]){ boolean status=true; char c='Y'; int v=100; Object s[]=new Object[3]; s[0]=status; s[1]=c; s[2]=v;
System.out.println(s[0]); System.out.println(s[1]); System.out.println(s[2]);
} this code will never run. YES. Because, boolean, char, int are primitive types not object, if you had written this.... Object[] s = new Object[3] Integer number = new Integer(1); s[0] = number; //this is correct, remember, class Integer extends Object and thats why you can store it instance inside an array of Object. Your code is rubbish, what you need to understand is that all Java classes implicitly extends an Object class which makes them an Object. You tried to assign a primitive type value to an object, its very funny, i am not even sure you know the different between 'String' and 'int'. i cant believe this is coming from somebody that tried to implement his own JVM its a SHAME. I didnt even tried this when i was a dummy in Java. Its so sad. Go and learn bro. |

seunthomas: See this man ohhh.
Were you dey when i dey work on my own personal implementation of the JVM in 2006??
Me i read the documentatations you are talking about, i also read language specifications as well as understand the concept behind stuff very well.
Anyway, like i said ignorance is a killer.
Mr only single types can be stored in a Java Array. Seriously, this guy doesnt know anything at all about Java, and i am not even sure you know any other language, and thats the reason why you are arguing that array can hold more than one datatype/object, a new Java programmer that is learning with mind wont even say this, talkless of your 100years experience with Java. Its a pity. I dont even know why you do this, maybe because you want to nailed down some potential clients from here. Its a pity once again. |

seunthomas: a. It really does not matter if you use a GET or POST in your request. Just ensure that you send the traffic over SSL/HTTPS (this is just a minor prevention that can not stop determined Man in the middle attacks). b. SSL certificate pinning is a good way to reduce the chances of your traffic being sniffed by a third party. It can however be bypassed without much work on most rooted devices. c. Some apps do check to see if the device is rooted. If the device is rooted they wont run. This is also a precaution and combined with SSL certificate pinning will prevent about 80% of attacks. d. Another way to mitigate attacks would be to use a shared key thats known to the server. Then encrypt all requests from the client going to the server. This is how most of the payment processors send credit card details. If on a mobile device, ensure the encryption part is done in c/c++ code. For android developers, never encrypt data in Java, always do it in c/c++. There are very good android apk to java decompilers that can convert all your code back to raw or approximate java code. Will continue Lesson 4 later today. thanks. I kinda like the option d, but does that mean C/C++ codes are free from being reverse engineered?. |
Programming › Re: Lessons In How Not To Implement Application Security by lekropasky(m): 1:50pm On Sep 29, 2016 |
DanielTheGeek: That is what the Oauth authorization framework is meant for, you validate apps by sending them to the Oauth server to validate the app_token and app_scope and make sure the user gave permission to that app/person trying to connect.
By password, I guess you mean the api_secret, you should pass them through Oauth first for initial validation. Get Oauth 2.0 https://oauth.net/2/ . Another thing is, your API doesn't look properly designed (if that's the way it is in production) instead of /rest/login.php... Something like /api/v1.0/users/all... makes more sense, but if your API is private you can hard-code the credentials na, this one is public "ashewo" API... let me know if you need me to explain further. i have actually heard about this, and i remember that i tried to wrap it into my head, but i didnt get it. So, ill be glad if you can show me the basic implementation/example. Thanks. |
Programming › Re: Lessons In How Not To Implement Application Security by lekropasky(m): 10:50pm On Sep 28, 2016 |
FincoApps: First of all, using POST request would be better and at least remove the pasting to browser option
Secondly, this issue you just posted is actually not possible to prevent because any determined hacker would be able to reverse Engineer it.... Even Fb, WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat all cannot stop it... that's why You see apps like Inst10, Snap10, FaceBox... etc all available on BlackBerry
But some ways to make it difficult:
Doing some validations on the server to check the device the request is coming from
Doing some form of Key exchange For example, when a client opens the app, it securely get's an encrypted key and that key is sent with each other request made to the server - (Just a mild sample)
Encrypting the request itself so for example you have var postData = {}; postData["userid"] = "daddy"; postData["password"] = "finco"; postData["key"] = key;
var request = someEncryptionFunction(postData);
Then send the request variable as your request... the server would then decrypt using a common key
There are more sophisticated ways but trust me, they can all be reverse engineered and to me it's not hard to reverse engineer the communication of Applications with their server YEAH, thanks bro. Yes, using post request can prevent the request from being made from a browser, but do you know there are apps that works on rooted phones, these apps can sniff all the network request going in-and-out of the particular phone, and a post request can be abuse by using/creating an html form that it action points to your url --<form action =' http://www.example.com/rest/login.php' method = 'POST'>....this form can contain maybe two hidden fields with the username and password as the name, values being the crazy guess they have made. What i am trying to let you understand is that, there is a way to know if a request is being manipulated i.e its not made/comes from your app and thats what am tryna figure out...i hope i make a little sense |

Good Job is really going on here. I have some questions Boss. As a mobile app developer -Android, i am a noob when it comes to security, and it bother me alot. i have a software that communicate with a rest service, and i dont want some hackers to abuse my Rest Api, lets say i have a php file that handles user login with an address like -- http://www.example.com/rest/login.php?user=username&pass=password, someone can just reverse engineer my app, copy the url, paste it inside a browser and maybe grab the raw json that was meant to return to the client. How do i prevent this please? Sends token to server on every http request? How do i verify the token on the backend...i have a lot of questions....THANKS. |
