TAO11:You're using logic & facts with a dimwitted Bini imperialist. He wants Bini to retain their colonialism of other smaller tribes while those ones are fighting not to remain vassals of an extinct empire. It is similar to a Turk putting nose in affairs of Saudi Arabia because Turkey, through the Ottoman empire once held power over Saudi. Kolewerk ! Empires come & go. Even the British empire is in its last days. He's no different from an average Nigerian Fulani who wants them to retain control over Hausas and even extend beyond Hausaland. People like that will never learn. Let him keep dwelling on old glory and not focus on forging new ones. PS: All but one of my paternal aunts and uncles are from an Itsekiri mom. Dear OP, Though your question is directed at Urhobo people, I feel urged to make a contribution. I will urge you to share your father's properties EQUALLY with your sisters, there's no length too far females can't go when they feel cheated. There's no share you will get that wouldn't multiply if you are shrewd. The world we live in is tough for both genders, don't deprive your sisters of a fair additional means of income. Abeg |

AntiChristian:FIRSTLY, As a Yòrùbá man that I am, it is cultural for us to call whoever we didn't give birth to our son or daughter when they do what we please. YHWH doesn't "need" a "son" like you wrongly stated above. Besides, Jesus wasn't the only one called "Son of God." Adam was call "Son of God" in Luke 3: 38 Angels were called "Sons of God" in Genesis 6: 1 - 4; etc. God is our father and we are his children (2 Corinthians 6: 18) SECONDLY, Before Jesus came to earth, sins were being atoned for (since time immemorial) by sacrificing blood (of birds & cattle) such as requested in Leviticus 5: 7. But since humans willingly sin with the belief that they will atone for it with animals, that loophole had to be blocked. How? By shedding one last blood to atone for all further sins. But since it's the sin of men that has to be atoned for, a man's blood has to be used the final atonement, a ransom to buy back perfect human life that Adam corrupted. But sin is in the DNA of men and dirty blood can't atone for sins (just as dirty water can't wash a plate clean). So Jesus, among all God's angels volunteered to be reduced to a man so as to shed a pure blood for the final shedding of blood to redeem one's self. PHILIPPIANS 2: 6 - 11 reads: 6: rather, he made himself nothing 7: by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, 8: he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place 9: and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, 10: in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, 11: to the glory of God the Father. engrchykae:Firstly, until 2015, there has been no democratically elected president in Nigeria since 1957 that isn't an alliance between The North & The Igbos, so I laugh whenever I read comments suggesting Yòrùbás have been governing Nigeria with the Fulanis as if the Igbos aren't the original "One Nigeria" super glue. . Tafawa Balewa & Azikiwe VS Awolowo (1957) . Shehu Shagari & Alex Ekueme VS Awolowo (2 times) . Obasanjo (PDP) VS Olu Falae (AD) (Falae was the consensus candidate in the South West; you can check the election % for that year) . Musa Yar'adua & Jonathan (PDP) VS Nuhu Ribadu & Segun Agbaje (ACN) (2011) Till . Buhari & Osinbajo (APC) VS Jonathan & Sambo (PDP) The Igbos candidate has always won till 2015 BACK TO THE MAIN TOPIC: What you should remember is that we now live in the 21st century. Any aggression not properly calculated will result in further losses because USA, China and Russia now call the shots. And any nation that wants to break away needs to be friend to ALL world powers. Let's assume the Igbos aren't as cowardly as the Yòrùbás, and an aggression like that of 1966 happens again between Igbos and Fulani & friends under the Nigeria brand, do you think the Igbos will win? Let's further assume that the Igbos win the weapon battle, "Nigeria" will win the war at the United Nations. "How?" you may ask, if you remember before Corona outbreak, in January 2020 precisely, China was planning to invade Hong Kong because Hong Kong is claiming independence, they have also been recognised by MOST countries in the world, BUT China claims sovereignty over them, and if the country you're trying to break away from still claims sovereignty over you, according to the United Nations, you are going no where. In the case of Sudan VS South Sudan, Sudan was willing for South Sudan to go. BUT in the cases of: China VS Taiwan China VS Hong Kong Spain VS Catalonia, etc The United Nations clause of sovereignty still stands. Jesus said: If you want to build a house, you first calculate the cost. Calculating the cost is what the Yòrùbás have done till March 2021, now the next step is in motion. |

engrchykae:Leopard = Àmòtékùn Seriously though, what Igbo people consider bravery (physical fight like "shoot me, I shoot you" doesn't sit well with me. And here's why: YOU ARE FIGHTING THE BATTLE ON YOUR TURF ! It irks me when I read that ESN is fighting with Nigerian police or army in Igboland. USA is currently the strongest country in the world militarily, but she never brings the battle to her doorstep. That is wisdom. USA has "fought" war against Vietnam, Afghanistan, etc, but the "war" never got to their doorstep. The only three wars I remember that got to USA shook them like kids. 1. The Burning of Washington in 1814 by Britain 2. The bombing of Pearl Harbour by the Japanese 3. September 11, 2001 The Leopard, to me, is likely the most intelligent of all wild cats. The mistake Ojukwu made during the civil war, which I don't think an inexperienced person on military strategy like me can make is no doing enough aerial bombing of the enemy turf. I don't want to continue saying much here for a certain reason. Yoruba people say "Ogbón ju agbára lo" (Intelligence is better than strength). The yawning of a tiger is not as a result of cowardice. Even without shooting one bullet, we Yòrùbás will always overcome our enemies. I'm dropping my pen here. 1 Like 1 Share |

The reason I suppose Black countries aren't as progressive as others is because we have been "educated" to look outside for all good things. We have been "educated" that what we have is worthless. I believe it's until we start looking inwards like the Asian tigers that flushed colonial mindset off, until we start believing what we have at hand can be harnessed into some good or better before we can make any meaningful progress. All the positive balance in Black countries has been tampered with. 11 Likes |

Timonaira: Firstly, in 1920, Amodu Tijani Oluwa , a traditional chief (Idejo) in Lagos, (a descendant of Olofin Ogunfunminire, the progenitor of the Awori people) challenged the compulsory acquisition without compensation of his family land in Apapa by the British Administrators of Lagos. His family branch of the descendants of Olofin Ogunfunminire has the dominion of all villages in Apapa before the Brits forcefully grabbed parts of their land. He lost his appeal at the Supreme Court (Nigeria) and took the case to the Privy Court Council in London. Herbert Olayinka Macaulay (the man on one naira note & coin) was his lawyer & secretary. They won the case. CASE REFERENCE: Amodu Tijani vs. The Secretary of the Southern Provinces (1921) So how is Apapa Ijawland? Timonaira:Ijora people (Ijora-Badia), just like the people in Apapa, Ebute-Metta, Iddo, Otto, Isheri, Ìkòyí, Irú (Victoria Island), Iganmu, Agboyi, Ogudu, Ojo, Itire, Mushin, Isolo, Ijanikin, etc. in Lagos are descendants of Olofin Ogunfunminire. Truthshots:I guess that makes MacGregor the master to all the kings in Nigeria at that time. Plus I didn't write the Governor's Gazette of 28th February 1903, W. MacGregor did as is required by London, and he said he INVITED the Oonirisa to settle the dispute. Truthshots:Funnily, there's no written or oral record to prove this. Truthshots: When you first mentioned that Ooni of Ile-Ifè means Ooni of Ifa in one of your first comments, I tried to avoid talking about it BUT for the sake of Ifa priests, let me educate you again. What you imply means the Ooni is an Ifa priest, but IFA priests doesn't aspire for money, power or anything other than divination & healing for their clients as instructed by Òrúnmìlà (which is Ifa himself). Also, they are not to use their knowledge to enrich themselves (just like the Ìyá Mí Àjé [which some people translate as Witches). Let me digress a bit. People that heal others spiritually are likely to be poor. An example is why God instructed the Israelites to pay tithes to the children of Levi, because spiritual healing & cleansing is a divine work and aspiring for power & money can't work alongside it. Pastors that are aware of this are very likely to hammer on payment of tithes because that's their "divine" source of income. Back to my point, if Òrúnmìlà, who is if Ifa himself instructs his followers not to be avaricious, how then can an Ifa priest become a king? How? This is similar to a Levite aspiring for kingship in old Israel. It is impossible. Let's assume the Ooni of Ile-Ifè means Ooni of Ifa, how can a Babalawo assume a position of power in Yorubaland? You people's sense of reasoning is not functioning at all Truthshots: Lastly, kingship in Yorubaland involves ruling families E.g. For Ile-Ifè, the ruling families are: 1. The Oshinkola House, Iremo 2. The Ogboru House, Ilare 3. The Giesi House, More 4. The Lafogido House, Okerewe Each of this ruling families know how many of their sons & daughter has reigned on the throne, they know how many of the children of other families has reigned, they also know who's family is next to produce the Oonirisa, and in a case of dispute, like it happened last year among the Oniru family of Lagos, oral history will be cited like it has always been done before the British introduced us to Latin letters 2 Likes 2 Shares |

Truthshots:Precolonial maps you say? The map that RESULTED in Badagry being in Nigeria instead of Benin Republic? Ketou, Sabe, Ajase (Porto Novo) etc. in Benin Republic instead of Nigeria? Split of Borgu kingdom between Nigeria & Benin Republic? Split of Hausas between Nigeria & Niger Republic? That's your reference for accuracy? Irú/Imahin (Victoria Island), Ìkòyí, Gushi (Elegushi), up till the border of Èpé are chiefdoms of lesser power to Lagos Island till the 1990's, yet a part of the history of Victoria Island reads: "A large part of the Island was originally part of jurisdiction of the Oniru chieftaincy family of Lagos with tenants inhabiting the land. In 1948, the Lagos Executive Development Board paid 250,000 pounds as compensation for the land acquired from the Oniru family and an additional 150,000 pounds as compensation for the inhabitants and shrines destroyed. The inhabitants were later resettled at Maroko village" In Yorubaland, there's no way a Baále or family will get paid that money if they are under a king, it is the king that gets the money because all lands belong to the king and Baále are only land administrators appointed by kings. BUT the Oniru chieftaincy family got the money because they are not under any king (of Lagos Island in this case) like you were implying. Truthshots:You really want me to go all the way with you, but I'll keep restraining myself and only drop hints with you. I, for example wasn't alive in the time of my great grandfather, but oral history was handed down to me, so no stranger (from faraway) can tell my family story better than we on the family tree, and though we weren't witnesses, but will document such history. Plus oral history are mostly useful in terms of land disputes and other disputes E.g. Based on history , Ooni Olubuse I was invited by the then Governor of Lagos in 1903 , Sir W. MacGregor , to adjudicate in a festering dispute between the Akarigbo of Remo and the Elepe of Epe in Sagamu as to whether the Elepe was entitled , by right, to the wearing of a beaded crown , as Oba. If the statement you made that "...nobody witnessed his ancestors therefore nobody can tell you what went on in the period of his ancestors" is true, what did MacGregor rely on to make his judgement? Plus is it not undocumented history that will later become documented? I'm starting to think you are still in secondary school because of you level of cognition and might not be worth my time, but I'll still continue with this write up, with hopes that it attracts someone that will answer my question in the first post. Truthshots:This is the reason I am seriously doubting your cognitive skills because I educated you earlier that Lagos Island is the jurisdiction of the Oba of Lagos. His authority stops at Obalende from which the Onikoyi's territory starts onto Irú/Imahin (Victoria Island), etc.. The only part the Bini can claim at that time was Lagos Island in the same way the British can lay claim to Nigeria before October 1963 when Nigeria became a republic. Furthermore, all the kings in Yorubaland starting from the 1st to the current one are usually documented. And the Oniru dynasty starts thus: Onigefon – (1589-1620); Mabogunje – (1621-1654); Ihuntayi – (1655-1687); etc Also note that the Oniru, Ojora, Olotto, etc. all claim to be descendants of Olofin Ogunfunminire (some through Aromire, his descendant), this Olofin, the progenitor of the Awori people is a migrant from Ilè-Ifè. In fact, the current Ojora of Ijora (on Lagos Mainland) and the former Oniru are 1st cousins. You can't tell Awori people their history, they will tell you instead. I still need answers to my question in the first post, knowledgeable Ijaw people, kindly give an answer. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Truthshots: I told myself not to get involved in this particular conversation you are driving at, but I'll do it this once and may not talk about it again. Plus I really need someone to answer my question in the topic and derailing this thread would be bad for that. Firstly, the domain of the Oba of Lagos is from Obalende - Idumota, but for the sake of easy geographical understanding, I'll refer to the domain as Lagos Island (this excludes Victoria Island, Ìkòyí etc which has their independent monarchy (Irú [a descendant of Olofin] and Ìkòyí respectively). If you visit Iga Idungaran, the current location of the palace of the Oba of Lagos [Island], you will see people willing to tell you their unfiltered history. Also, to set records straight are why Yòrùbás place regards for Oriki. The relationship between Lagos Island and Bini is like the relationship Britain had with Nigeria before October 1st 1960. If you check the map of the British empire by 1900, you will see how much control Britain had on the world. Emphasis on the word "control." Because people discussing about this topic mostly mistaken control for being indigenous. Britain controlled Nigeria in 1954 for example doesn't mean they are indigenous to Nigeria. The same applies to Lagos Island & Bini. The monarchy of Lagos [Island] is of Bini origin, but before the monarchy, Aromire, one of the children of Olofin Ogunfunminire, the progenitor of the Awori people, was in charge of that part of Lagos Island. As a matter of fact, Iga Idungaran which is the name of the palace of the Oba of Lagos [Island] roughly translates "Palace at the pepper farm." The monarchy has chiefs, the Idejo who are descendants of Ogunfunminire (Obanikoro, Bajulaiye & Ashogbon are chiefs of Bini origin). Furthermore, the Aromire family, to my surprise are still very much relevant on Lagos Island, encompassing Victoria Island and Ìkòyí, and on the Lagos Mainland parts by the lagoon shore (Ijora-Badia, Iddo, Iganmu, Otto and environs). This is far beyond the jurisdiction of the Oba of Lagos. I got to know they STILL wield so much power on Lagos Island (and environs) in a rant by Chief Abisoye Oshodi about Bola Tinubu and Rilwan Akiolu (the Oba of Lagos [Island). Also, an interview of the Ojora if Ijora enlightened me further about him and other kings who descended from Aromire. Whoever is in doubt that the Idejo, children of Olofin Ogunfunminire are the oònile (landlords) of Lagos [Island] and its mainland environs (this is beyond Oba of Lagos' jurisdiction) should know that this issue was INDIRECTLY settled/clarified in 1920 when Chief Amodu Tijani, the Oluwa of Lagos, took the British colonialists to the Privy Council in London. I think Herbert Macaulay was his lawyer. Judgement was made in 1921 in favour of Chief Oluwa. The lesser kings of Lagos, the Idejos, who lost power to the colonial rulers, contested the rights to their land for decades in the 20th century. Whoever doesn't believe this can make research by accessing the documents of this case. PS: Whoever has answers to my question in the first post should please comment. 9 Likes 5 Shares |

mechanics:In truth, the Bible said "the two shall become one", but in our current reality, the two are separate entities pretending to be one. Husbands feel it's their right to selfishly fulfill their sexual desires outside their marriage. Wives feel it's their right to spend their money at their discretion with no input from the husband whatsoever, but she has a major stake in the husband's finances in the name of "maintaining the home." The husband will refer to their house as "my house," the wife will refer to utensils she bought as hers as well, not theirs. Our current realities aren't according to biblical suggestions at all. Mrscarter: I honestly think one's mental health is also an asset (at least for people like me in the creative industry), so the guy stated terms that will make him stay in the marriage if adhered to, and if broken, could affect his mental health. Therefore I think a prenup covers (or should cover) more than wealth & riches. E.g. In a case where a man wants to throw out his wife from THEIR home, a prenup could serve as an insurance for the lady. Also, I hope you read the part the guy asked what could be added or taken out? I think this suggests he wants CLARITY that the girl is marrying him for love and not because he has been her benefactor (I didn't post this part of the story cuz it will extend the whole thing) Will you sign (or negotiate) a prenup if offered? Or you'll rather walk away? |
Romance / My Boyfriend Wants Me To Sign Terms And Conditions Before Marriage by LeoThaGreat(m): 5:22pm On Mar 16, 2021 |
I was browsing through a Ghanaian website when I saw this article that interests me. It was about a confused lady asking for what to do because her boyfriend gave her a prenuptial agreement (terms & conditions for marriage) to sign before he can proceed to legalise their relationship. This reminded me of Kim Kardashian & Kanye West and other Western couples that sign prenups before getting wed. The prenup covers what to do during the marriage and what happens in case of a divorce. This lady's story was long so I decided to cut out the agreement part to paste them here. One day, he asked me, “When we marry, how should we manage our finances?” I said, “I have no idea. you’re the man. What do you think?” He only nodded but said nothing. My questions are: 1. If you were a guy, will you propose such a prenuptial agreement to serve as a guideline (and safe house) before getting wed? 2. If you were a lady, will you agree to (or negotiate some clauses in) such a prenuptial agreement, or you'll throw it all away? 4 Likes 4 Shares |

The part that caught my attention, which also is the reason for this topic is where it was stated that: "During the time of the expansion of the Benin kingdom (1550), the Benin invaded Ukoruama (Lagos). The Arogbo Izon sent soldiers to defend the Ijo living in that region. Their army camp became known as Idumu-Arogbo later shortened to Idumagbo (Lagosians should be familiar with Idumagbo Avenue." Kindly note that in the earlier Portuguese maps of Yorubaland, the part now known as Lagos Island (or Èkó by Lagosians) is termed Kuramo. , from which Kuramo Beach (if it's still named as such) derived it's name. I'm trying to formulate factual history in my head, not distorted ones. Ijaw people in the house, what does "Ukoruama" mean? |

BigBashiru:Now you're forcing me to go an extra mile, and here goes an example: Dano milk is produced by Arla Foods. Peak milk is produced by FrieslandCampania. Both of them and other cheap milk in Nigeria are produced in Europe before being shipped here. There's a milk subsidy in Europe, so 1 litre of milk that may cost €3 may be sold for €0.95, the E.U will pay the difference to milk corporative organisations to keep good milk cheap in E.U zone. These organisations will then refine and package the milk (powder & evaporated) for sale in E.U. Butter will be extracted from the leftover milk they couldn't sell. The shaft remaining after butter was extracted will be fattened with vegetable fat and other ingredients (you can see on Dano Milk) then they will be shipped down to Nigeria as "powder milk." When they get there, Standard Organisation of Nigeria can easily reject them, BUT, the Europeans will withdraw some certain ECONOMIC deals from them (like Zimbabwe) because they "are rejecting European product." Nigeria can either allow their poison in, or call their bluff (you know the consequence of this). How then will there be job opportunities in the African milk industry when cheap milk is forcefully imported from Europe? Why won't Africans migrate for economic opportunities? (Addressing your topic) How then can Nigeria (or Africa) win at a game they didn't set the rules? If they decide to set a new game, these wild animals will fight back. They have perched on Africa's balls and they can't hit them aggressively, only systematically (not in Nigeria by the way because of people like you, maybe Ghana, Ivory Coast, Senegal because they aren't ignorant of 'the game'). Though, if it were up to me, and I was in charge of a West African country, I will pay subsidies on milk (to House of Chi, makers of Hollandia milk for example); but if I do, people trading in other commodities will feel sidelined. So it almost can't be possible in a democratic government, but in the style of Government Libya had with Ghadafi. Stop blaming the victim. 1 Like |

BigBashiru:These happen in countries where there is an economic problem. If you go to South America or South Asia, you might experience the same. The entire continent of Africa is yet to recover from being robbed blind by Europeans and their legacy (lumping up different nations of different ideologies into one country). If Europeans never created this problem, there wouldn't be any need to solve them. But the fact still remains some citizens of some African countries are proud of their country and are working towards making it better than it currently is. (E.g Kenyans & South Africans) YOU on the other hand, like many Nigerians isn't proud of YOUR country. Don't speak on behalf of other African countries, please. 2 Likes |

Ashirioluwa:Your country, Nigeria, isn't synonymous to Africa. Speak only on behalf of your country which is the only place you have first hand experience about, not the entire continent. 3 Likes |

If the situation really happened like the Sarki's son painted it, they will have only their clothes on with most properties lost in the fire. I'm starting to see why some Nairalanders are saying the Sarki & family are using Taqiyya 32 Likes 2 Shares |
