Lol, so, you're still stuck on this topic? I appreciate the time taken to express your opinions, but honestly, it's obvious you don't know as much about this as you think.

Think about it: If someone who doesn't know Yoruba comes across the language, they might mistake it for English, just like you're mixing up Ajami script with Arabic. The truth is, what you're calling the "Yoruba alphabet" is really just modified English letters with some added sounds that are unique to Yoruba, such as the letter "GB" you mentioned among other letters. All together, they're called the Yoruba alphabet. Whether you agree or not, we call them modified English letters because they borrow from English—unless the Yoruba have some totally different writing system that doesn't look like English letters.

Similarly, Hausa people traditionally couldn't read anything unless it was written in Arabic script. Like Yoruba, they modified the Arabic alphabet to capture unique Hausa sounds not present in Arabic. An example is "ط" with a dot below it, representing the "Da" in Boko writing, and "ري" representing the "ri" sound. Combining these syllables gives "طري" or "Dari," meaning "hundred" in Hausa. Furthermore, I pointed out the dot underneath the letter 'ط' because my phone's doesn't have Ajami characters, some of which include additional dots underneath or on top of some letters. This is similar to the limitations you might face when writing Yoruba on your phone, since you can't add the necessary dots and symbols found in the Yoruba alphabet. If you're familiar with writing in Yoruba, you may likely relate to this challenge.

Moreover, the Boko writing system later developed by the Hausa, functions just like the modified English alphabets used by Yoruba and Igbo. Other languages, such as Urdu and Farsi, also adapted Arabic alphabets for their writing systems. If you can't get past the idea that Ajami is Arabic, it's probably because you don't know enough about it yet. To understand the difference, you need to keep an open mind.

I can tell that you really don't like Ajami because of its Islamic roots. Both Yoruba and Hausa people learned and adapted English or Arabic alphabets to write their languages after converting to Christianity and Islam respectively. So what's the grouse about the Hausa's Ajami writing system for? I can also see your bias here: When English-looking letters are used for writing Yoruba, it's Yoruba, but when Arabic-looking letters are used for writing Hausa, it's still Arabic. I've explained this over and over, but it seems some people would rather stay confused than admit that Ajami is not the same thing as the Arabic language. grin

First and foremost, I don't know who you began the topic with and your reason for saying, "I still stick with this topic", that's by the way.
There is no need beating round the bush, your knowledge on this topic is inadequate, perhaps you will help yourself by doing more research.
My summary, which you are still in argument with is ...

Ajami is a form of Arabic text, go and do your various research, go through various literatures, ajami was adapted from Arabic , simple and story.

Yoruba alphabets were adapted from Latin ones, no story.

Lastly, in Nigeria politics is applied to balance things out, no story.

Only a Fool cannot see the Foolishness and uselessness of the current Nigerian educational system...

Job seekers instead of Job Creators are massively produced yearly and you think that is normal ?

You are Probably Abnormal..

Look at the lives of the Truly Rich people around the world and you will notice that they are Job Creators.

If your educational system is not teaching students how to be Job Creators then that system will produce future broke ass individuals.

Even the students that manages to secure employment after graduation rarely gets into the top 2% of the Richest people because they are not Job Creators...

The Richest man in Africa is not an employee but an employer of Labour..

If your Nigerian educational system mean well for the students why are they not training them to be Job Creators ?

Why is Entrepreneurship not taught in most schools ?

Why is Investment Principles not in the Curriculum of most schools ?

Why is Venture Capitalism not encouraged in our Higher Institution ?

Because the System is a Scam...

It is designed to mass produce job seekers.

Never forget this.....

A Salary is what your employer pays you for you to forget your dreams in life

Once you are an employee collecting salaries, you are more likely to kiss your dreams good bye.

The Nigerian educational system remains a Major Scam until Job Creators are created on a yearly basis.
Your head is not correct and you are the one perhaps and your father who are abnormal and not me.
I will keep telling you for the upteen time that only an idiot and brainless entity will proclaim EDUCATION as a scam anywhere.
Since you have pronounced, qualify or define it EDUCATION, then it's no more a scam.
If you are educated and you be able to even type on Nairaland, it's no more a scam, you should blame your lack of ingenuity and dullness, your inability to think outside the box.
Look at this lazy nonentity with fake statistics only 2% of those who made it are salary earners, you must be kidding with your fake news called statistics.
Your father must be poor, you are from a poor background, that's why you assume if you are earning salaries then you can't make it, infact your head is not correct with this una motivation talk that salary earners won't rise their heads to fulfill their dreams.
When some salary earners earn millions in a month and let's even forget hundreds of thousands some earn in a month, go to various lucrative sectors and get what they get paid in dollars, is it not education that got them to that position or you think because they know your father? these idiots will talk as if salary earners don't build mansions, it depends on what you do mehn, and these best lucrative positions are manned by educated people, and so be it job creator or working for someone, you get revenue, so what's the issue?! and if you want to quit salary work and invest, at least you can start from your savings, since capital is key.
They will talk as if salary earnings means 5 thousand naira per month, jokers.

So that's the sense I want to get across to una head, Nigeria can still improve a lot in her education doesn't mean EDUCATION itself is a scam, because with it, you can leverage, if your brain is not sawdust filled.
All curricula don't have to be industrial or technological based, there are people in other fields who have achieved greatness via education, and the practical education or industrial ones too we have to improve on that, not that they are not present at all but population produced year in, year out must be accommodated by various institutions, and these institutions don't grow at the same rate population are growing, hence you find people in fields which are not theirs while studying in school, but undergo little training and fit in(the education they had made it possible for them to adapt quickly) , and get this wrong impression off your mind that all graduates must be job creators, you are a shallow thinker if you think that's the case, and you rather go through various departments to see for yourself.

Nonsense, even Dangote and Obasanjo went back to school, a richest man is not bla bla bla....go and check thousands of millions of educated people earning salaries in various fields and they are success in their own rights.

EDUCATION ANYWHERE IS NEVER A SCAM, what you can use as a form of improvisation to achieve your aim here or outside the country is never a scam, only you and other idiots will argue against that.

I won't waste your time, I am going to give you a short list of why Kamala Harris Lost to Donald Trump.

1.) Americans are not ready to allow a woman lead them as President. In as much as they champion gender equality, they understand the dangers of electing a woman, a black or mixed raced as the POTUS. The current generation of Americans now are not ready for that risk.

2.) Americans don't joke with Israel's security. Whoever told Kamala Harris to criticize Israel, publicly condemning Israel defense of her homeland from Moslem terrorists attacks was wrong. She should have kept her mouth shut.

3.) In as much as Americans support freedom, equality and liberalism, the way Kamala Harris supports LGBT, Abortion, genderless madness and other anti Christian wokeism practices became worrisome to so many real Americans not the fake Americans wannabes.

4.) Most Americans are tired of Ukraine Russian war and they believe Trump can put an end to the war and save the world from a possible 3rd world war or nuclear battle. The Americans of today love fun and enjoyment more than anything and not ready to go to any war like Americans of the 1940s to 1990s cheesy

5.) Islamic Terrorists Madness in MiddleEast and the rising popularity of Iran. Americans believe only Trump can put a stop to Iran's madness in the MiddleEast.

6.) Migrant Influx. Many White Americans are tired of migrants trooping into their country. They believe if this is not checked, America will lose its glory in no distant time so they want a President that can be bold enough to stop or slow down migration to a great extent.

And Kamala Harris has been in support of allowing migrants in while Trump is against undocumented migrants coming into the US, especially those from Moslem countries, Africa, Haiti, Colombia and Mexico.

These are the main reasons Kamala Harris Lost.
LGBTQI and freedom thing is not Kamala Harris putting them on her head is an American thing to believe in freedom, fairness and equity, Trump is a formidable candidate and he has won so be it, if he lost people would still bring list why he lost but others on the list may be factors though.

Although you're right that the text on the army logo is standard Arabic (as mentioned in my previous comment), but the script on our naira notes is not. As an educational psychologist who can speak and write Arabic fluently, I'd like to share some insights on the topic.

The script used on naira notes is called "Ajami," which is an adaptation of the Arabic alphabet for writing Hausa. It was developed because Hausa has additional sounds not found in Arabic. Similarly, after accepting Christianity, Yoruba and Igbo people adopted the English/Latin alphabet with modifications to accommodate their unique sounds.

For instance, in our N100 naira note, "Naira ofu nari" is Igbo written in the basic Latin alphabet, "Ogorun Naira" is Yoruba also written in Latin alphabet, and "Naira dari/نَيْرَ طَرِى" is Hausa written in the English-based "boko" script and "Ajami" respectively. While these scripts may use alphabets from other languages, they represent the indigenous languages they were adapted for, not the original language of the alphabet. So, even though the Ajami script on naira notes resembles Arabic, it's not the Arabic language. Just like an English speaker wouldn't understand the modified English alphabets used to write Igbo or Yoruba, a native Arabic speaker may not be able to read properly or understand Ajami either. This is why the other guy said the Arab he showed our naira note couldn't understand the "Ajami" that's because Ajami is not Arabic.

Moreover, if the situation were reversed and Yoruba hadn't adopted Christianity or learned English, if you're Yoruba, you might incorrectly claim that "Naira dari" (which means N100 naira) written in the "boko" writing system is "English" and tied to Christianity and therefore it should be expunged from our naira notes. This highlights how misconceptions can arise from a lack of understanding of linguistic adaptations and their historical context.

Lastly, the Ajami script on naira notes represents a part of Nigeria's history and cultural heritage, showcasing the diverse linguistic influences in our country. This is why it hasn't been removed from naira notes. It serves as a reminder of our history and the development of language and writing systems in Nigeria. Our children may ask about it, and we can share the story of our linguistic journey as a nation.

Peace!
Hogwash!
Yoruba alphabets go thus A, B D,E, E, F, G GB, H I, J e.t.c Igbo also has similar alphabets, so if compute sentence using the above alphabets e.g Ade (crown) , I have not used english alphabets but only used yoruba alphabets, so you don't say this is modified english alphabets.

And in the case of what you called modified form of Arabic and claim is not Arabic, no, that's not correct, you may say it's not standard Arabic, accepted, but it's still a form of Arabic.

Just like in pidgin English, pidgin English is a form of English because, only English speakers will have idea of the language while a non English speakers e g Spanish speakers will never understand pidgin English.

So modified form of Arabic is still Arabic, forget politics.

The reason we do a lot of what we do in Nigeria is for politics,

The British are our Colonial masters, so English is our lingua franca, and they didn't enforce religion on anyone even though they are Christians, but we just want to balance everything out politically in this country, if English then Arabic.
Yes ou mentioned historical importance, is ajami the only language we should preserve for life? what about other thousands of languages, do we then bring them on our national identities?

There is no Hausa man that won't understand 500, 100, 50 naira e.t.c and the value, without unnecessary inscription of one useless ajami, (even our elderly market women understand the money and their values with frequent use) all for politics.

airsaylongcome:
How is it a contradiction? Aren't there many non-English languages written with English alphabets? Pidgin English is written in English alphabets. Does that make Pidgin English, English? Or are Yoruba and Igbo, languages written English alphabets, also "English"?

FYI, what is written on the Nigerian Army logo and I believe the older Naira notes (₦1 note I remember had it) is called "ajami" from the Arabic word ajamiya. A quick look on Wikipedia says the following:

"Ajami (Arabic: عجمي‎, ʿajamī) or Ajamiyya (Arabic: عجمية‎, ʿajamiyyah), which comes from the Arabic root for 'foreign' or 'stranger', is an Arabic-derived script used for writing African languages, particularly Songhai, Mandé, Hausa and Swahili, although many other languages are also written using the script, including Mooré, Pulaar, Wolof, and Yoruba."

So even in some contexts, Yoruba has been written in ajami.

So where's the contradiction you spoke about? I had given a native Arabic speaker one of our Naira notes to read the he inscription and it was completely unintelligible to them
All the the long thrash doesn't hold water, you can't tell me something it's not Arabic yet you say is written in Arabic alphabet, then such speaker is not intelligent.

So if i write "Obasanjo" or "Ojukwu" that means they are written in English alphabets? You are wrong! they automatically become Yoruba and Igbo name respectively.

And the 'Pidgin English' you cited is also a form of English, the 'pidgin' preceding it is an adjective describing or qualifying the type of English it is, the broken one.

Even in Arabics, there are dialects or modified forms.
You cited Songhai, mande e.t.c, any connection towards Arabic, even not in it's purest form is still Arabic.

I can write in Ondo or Ijebu dialect, they are both Yoruba languages and a Yoruba from Oyo or Osun may not understand, it still doesn't say what i have written in those dialects are not Yoruba dialects or standard Yoruba derivatives, so if someone from Saudi Arabic can't understand what is written on the uniform as you said just because of its modified form, they are still connected to Arabic, of course, there are modified Arabic across Arabic speaking comunities, even among Shuwab Arabs in the North and some nearby countries, there is slight deviation from the standard but some may still understand the standard Arabic.

Bottom line, deviation from the standard or inability to understand the derived form doesn't say it's no more connected to the source which is Arabic..

Why can't non controversial or lingua franca be used? Creation of confusion, Nonsense!

If you go to some Christian weddings, you may hear worldly songs during the reception. Some churches too may sing or change some worldly songs into Christian songs.. If someone corrects them, they may say "Christianity is in the heart, and on that day we go see who enter heaven" ..

The truth is that a Christian loving worldly songs is fake. You may speak in tongues, cry during worship etc. But if you love worldly music, you are fake or weak Christian..

I John 2:15 says "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him"
A fanatic & judge like you should get his brain 🧠 fixed, what's is worldly song, what's is Christian song? Should music not be judged by its content, Secular or Christian?

So in your rigid head, listening to a song "🎶Children listen to your parents 🎶" or 🎶F'ibukun f'oluwa oo Iwo okan mi, koma se gbagbe ore re lorimi🎶 by "King Sunny Ade," translation Bless God oh my soul and forget not his benefits over me"

Would you rather be born a Qatari or a Nigerian?

Many Nigerians would trade the democratic system for the higher standard of living enjoyed in countries like Qatar, which operates under monarchies (different from the system in UK and the Netherlands)

"Democracy" offers the illusion of choice and freedom, but it falls short. The recent Israeli genocide in 2024 has further undermined the argument for democracy or a so-called democratic principle.

All governments will abuse its power for its own benefits. The difference is one will gaslight you into thinking they truly uphold these principles. Others don't.

Whether it is a monarchy, a democracy, or a dictatorship, if a government can deliver a high quality of life, many people will overlook the flaws until the Western powers decide the government does not benefit them and then it is not democratic enough for them, and incite others against them.

Do people just wake up and call for military rule? are they even supposed to be calling for military rule? infact in this modern time, any shenanigan of military government can lead to formation of different militia groups and won't augur well for any society, is it not guns the idiots in uniform rely upon?! but that aside, only a fool will just quote people out of contest "calling for military rule" is it not the silliness of these thieves and election riggers who claim they practice democracy that make people to compare them with military government?, are people supposed to be calling for military government?
Infact I even feared on the radio that the government in agbada or bagariga should govern well in Africa because part of the acclaimed reasons these uncultured men in uniform seize power is as a result of what they call bad governance and one deposed idiot on radio known as Sandra was over zealous and taking people out of contest, that one is calling for military rule, bad job!
If a nation is peaceful and progressive are we not going to enjoy it together and if it's the other way round, are we not going to face it? so we always want the best for our country.

Funny how soldier thinks he's Government. Person wey dey follow order? undecided

Government don't follow order, they make order.

Soldier man, you're not government, rather a government puppet. Stop feeling yourself!
You lack understanding, they are arm or extension of government.
Not all of them will be at the top at the same time, there must be hierarchy, soldiers are part and are in the side of government.
