My average monthly expenditure was shown in my account statement.
The 10X amount he is referring to is my closing balance which was accumulated over the years.
badboy92:

Did you explain the source of the 10x amount in your cover letter?

Your salary is very ok to sponsor your trip, so dilodavid advice is also a recommended step.

Was your average monthly expenditure same as what was shown in your account statement?

Have you traveled to the Uk before?

Hello and happy new year to everyone on the forum. Please help with the below refusal. I was previosly refused in August with the reason that the amount I intend to spend on my trip is more than 2 times my disposable income.
The refusal states I have other lump sum deposit apart from my salary which is clearly not the case.
Also the ECO states that the closing balance is 10X my monthly income. I dont know what this implies.

It is now almost 3 months since last refusal, can I reapply and reduce the number of days and budget for the trip. Hoping to visit over xmas to witness a likely white xmas.
giselle237:
Ur salary is 279k according to the letter. Maintenance income is 90k... according to how u filled ur form
Leaving u with DISPOSABLE INCOME of 189k
189k x2 is 378k
Ur planned budget was 500k...
this is the issue in ur refusal letter
U planned to spend almost 3 times ur salary. The ECO doesn't want that... ur case is not an isolated case... this is one of the 5 main reasons of UK visa application refusals

Good morning nairalanders.

Thanks

[The budget was for 12 days which is approximately 2 weeks and not 1 week. The documents i submitted supported my source of income and the ECO did not raise any concerns about that. The ECO refused on the ground of spending approximately 3 times my disposable income on vacation. I had a balance of 1.9m as at the time of application and spending 500k of my hard earned money on vacation is not too much. I think the ECO refused my application on a subjective decision.
justwise:

Two clear issues reading your refusal letter.. your budget for few days trip is high and it makes little sense to spend that much in less than a week especially if you first time traveler to the UK.

Second issue is..the documents you submitted did not support your source of income as you stated.

The ECO was not looking at your salary but your disposable income which is significantly low after all the expenses.

Refusal hurts but the more you re-read your refusal the more understand clearly why you were refused.

If you go through everything and believe that the ECO was wrong then you can write letter of reconsideration explaining why you disagreed with the decision

Thank you for sharing your opinion. How do i go about challenging this decision please.
NanaOne1:

These are some of the refusal reasons I find very disappointing.
How can the ECO conclude that spending three times of your salary on a one time life experience vacation amounts to no good use of that money. Purely this refusal reason does not hold in the light of any immigration law and it is purely a subjective reason the ECO gave you.
ECO did not raise any flags about the transactions in your account and didn't doubt any of your document. The ECO's only concern is with his own subjective reasoning that your budget is too much when you yourself you are not complaining and its also clearly evident that you will still have money in your account after your trip and since you have a stable job, you replenish that in just some few months.

If I was in your shoes, I will actually challenge this refusal reason instead of applying because with reapplying its either you are given or an opportunity for the ECO to raise other more serious issues which would be difficult to succumb. My take

They refuse for any flimsy reason possible. I would definitely reapply in few months. Thank you
giselle237:
Na wa.
Kpele.
They say your disposable income is about 187k and you spending 500k, almost 3 times your disposable income looks fishy. ECO feels why would you spend this amount on holiday for 12 days.. you saved for it na!

hmm these people..

Thank you for your prompt response. How soon can i reapply please. I am thinking of leaving it till October and maybe reapply for the Xmas break.
dilodavid:
I think you should apply again. Reduce the number of days you wish to spend in the UK, that will have a significant reduction in your budget for the trip. 400k should be fine. You must not do shopping, not mandatory. That amount should take care of your flight, hostel accommodation and living expenses in the UK.
