THE GOOD LIFE– Episode 2- 'Happy Are The Sad'

Derwin Gray.

You will become happy when what breaks God’s heart breaks your heart: sin, injustice, suffering. (Matthew 5:4 CSB & Isaiah 61:1-2).

This is because the God’s kind of happiness is rooted in purpose, rooted in God’s redemptive plan and the redeemer Himself, Jesus.

Also, this happiness can’t be stolen because you are in God’s hand.
Mourn in Greek is translated as “lament” and it means a wailing, a crying, a deep hurt, not just at personal sin but at corporate and systemic sin.

Lament is a holy hurt, this hurt pushes us deep into faith, hope, love and into knowing Jesus and His redemptive purposes. Mourning and lamenting within the understanding of the
gospel is intrinsic to the gospel because what breaks our heart moves us into the world to look for the brokenhearted.

The key to our comfort is becoming a comforting agent to those who are brokenhearted. We must not forget that Jesus came to preach to
the brokenhearted and He begins to preach in us and through us, in His presence, power and goodness. If you dismiss grief, you forfeit
growth. Psalms 34:18(CSB)

Happy are the sad because they:
1. Repent of sin and embrace the atonement individually and corporately. (Isaiah 6:1-7& Psalm 32:1)
We find it easier to repent of our personal sins than corporate sins.
To repent over something that you didn’t do is more of “lament”, it is acknowledging the wrong about it and the benefits you might have
gotten from such wrong thing(s).

We get this kind of repentance(individual and corporate sin) from Isaiah 6:5. “Then I said, Woe is me for I am ruined because I am a man of unclean lips (Personal sin) and live among a people of unclean lips (Corporate sin), and
because my eyes have seen the king, the LORD of Armies.

One of the signs that you are maturing and growing as a follower of Christ is that you don’t think so highly of yourself, not that your self-
esteem is low, but you get so infatuated with the grace and greatness of God.

The more we mature in Christ, the more dependent we are on Christ and this leads us to confessing and acknowledging that the only good thing in us is Jesus.

Jesus is now our atonement. He’s the High Priest who went into the Holy of Holies and though His Blood He atoned for our sins so that we
don’t have to go through the rituals and sacrifice as it was done under the old covenant. There is a joy and happiness that comes from knowing that we are covered by Jesus such that when God the Father looks at us, He sees Jesus, the blood of Jesus and what is true of Jesus becomes true of us; and as we walk in intimacy with Jesus, we see who we can truly be.

2. Join Jesus in bringing redemptive Justice to the world.(Isaiah 6:1-8, Hebrews 13:3, Isaiah 1:17)

Redemptive here is an Old Testament word rooted in the Exodus that when God set the nation of Israel free through Passover which
was the blood of the Lamb over the doorpost they were set free from captivity in Egypt and set free from slavery.

Jesus is the new Passover because through his blood we are set free from the power of sin and
the power of death.

Redemptive justice means wanting to see God’s love touch every corridor of the world beginning with me and to the world. We join Jesus in His mission of redemptive justice which means evangelism.

When we lament (both personal and corporate sin) and repent, we are sent. We are sent on behalf of our gracious God. Putting ourselves
in other people’s shoes expands our capacity to love. Hebrews 13:3, Isaiah 1:17

Food for thought: What injustice are you standing in front of today in your society; saying not today and not under my watch. We must not forget that Jesus fought for us so that we can fight with faith, hope and love for those who are oppressed, depraved and mistreated.

THE GOOD LIFE– Episode 1- Happy are the Beggars

Derwin Gray

The good life is about Jesus’ word as taught in the Beatitudes.
Matthew 5:1-12 (CSB). Jesus showed in the Beatitudes a living portrait of what it is to be Human. It is a living portrait of Jesus Himself.

Trying to find true and lasting happiness outside of Christ is like chasing your shadow.

Since 2008, over 4,000 books have been written on how to be happy. In the year 2000, there were actually about 50 books on happiness. In recent times, there seem to be a constant chase in humans to find that which truly makes for true
happiness. What if we got happiness all wrong and we are becoming the wrong kind of people?

In our world today, happiness has been equated to doing things (like getting good grades, money etc.) and getting things (wealth, material possession like cars houses etc.).

Happiness isn’t confined to the things we get, although these things are good and of necessity, it is about becoming who we were meant to be.

Happiness is not about good things happening to us, however good things does happen to us
daily, it’s about God making us good.

The happiness Jesus taught in the sermon on the mount is not affected by circumstances, it is about the internal and eternal work of a loving God who shaped us with His nail-pierced hands.
“Blessed” in Greek means “Makarios” which literally means to be happy and supremely blest.

Our happiness is connected to our love for God and God’s love for us which moves us to be whole human beings. As we embrace God’s kind of happiness, we also become holy.

‘Holy’ here simply means I am a functioning human being like God created me to be.

How Do We Experience True Happiness?
By:
1. Becoming a Beggar (Matthew 5:3, Ephesians 2:3-7) Matthew 5:3 (Paraphrased) “Happy are those who are spiritually bankrupt, for without God they cannot live, exist and be the people they were created to be.

Despite everything we have, we are spiritual beggars. God is the standard of all morality and compared to God who is revealed in Christ, witnessed to us by the Holy Spirit, none of
us are good. The good God wants to be our goodness.

2. Repenting of our Pride. (James 4:6-8, Psalm 89:15-18 NLT) Pride in its essence means “self-sufficiency”. This is when we become more focused on ourselves and what we can do. A
sign of spiritual maturity is not depending on God less but depending on Jesus more. Doing things for God’s glory not our own glory. Self- sufficiency leads to sin.

3. Receiving and living from the unending riches of Christ Jesus. (2 Corinthians 8:9, Psalms 32:1 CSB)

Through faith in Christ we supernaturally are incorporated into His life so that everything that is true about Him is true about us too and this is not based on what we do or haven’t done, but on
what He does.

The unending riches of Christ includes Love,
Forgiveness, His Presence, Happiness, Power etc.
Power here isn’t about exotic things. Power is found in Matthew 5:45, "But I say love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you and Romans 12, "Overcome evil with good." Romans 12 leave vengeance to the Lord.

Likewise, happiness here is not you walking around smiling like a clown it's a happiness that's deeper and beautiful and more profound and we understand it's a happiness that leads to
holiness.

As you're satisfied in Jesus you will become holy like Jesus.

Soul Tattoo: Happy are the beggars, for only they receive the unending riches of Christ.

Romance / Re: What Happened Between My Girlfriend And My Mother by LifePortConnect: 12:42pm On May 18, 2020
funkmrflexx:
We Have Been Dating For 1 Year and 6 months now. I’ve met her parents, we wanted to get married last year but her dad told me to wait till she finishes school which is supposed to be next year. I’m 25 years old and she’s 22 .

But the problem is that she Has very bad anger issues. I mean she can destroy your property when she’s angry and I’m the quiet type. I don’t like hitting a lady execpt once in a while a general brain resetting slap. When she starts she doesn’t listen to anyone. Not me, not even her parents. So anytime she’s angry like this I will just find a way to make her laugh. Both of you can just be eating and she will get angry if you ate the fleshy part of the meat and left oily part for her (we have quarreled because of that I mean serious quarrel) . Sometimes I get tired of the whole situation. At the end even when she’s wrong I’ll let her for peace to reign. So I try to manage the anger at home so it shouldn’t go out

My girlfriend then said she doesn’t like mango that if I want to eat my mango I should carry it myself. Then my mom (she is the type that always shouts at every body. The real wahala woman) told her that if she can’t carry the mango then she should just put it on my head for me to carry na (If you no fit carry the mango u for kuku put am for e head make e carry am na).

That was the only thing my mom said. Then she sparked. Started shouting at my mom. That she should stop talking to her like that, that she doesn’t like it. In fact she’s going home. So she carried her bag and started going home. Every one in the compound started saying it’s ok (Na dat thing why dem tell u Dey make u Dey vex so) she was still shouting. I was even try to calm her down but no way. She was still shouting. Even my sister who had never seen her angry before became angry (na so you b? She said). I was really disappointed In her

The issue is what even made me angry is how she reacted. If she didn’t like what my mom said made her angry. At least she should have waited till we got home (this was the first time we were both sleeping over) then she would tell me. Or she could have called my sister and told her what my mom said. After all the fracas, she went inside the room till we left. I just told everybody to just leave her.

So when we got home I told her what she did was wrong that she shouldn’t have reacted like that. Na there war start. She started yelling and shouting at me that if my mom talks to everyone like that she won’t take it (my plan was to tell her that she should apologize to her. Because my mom already apologized that she won’t talk to her again like that. Which I know she will o . So we can just forget about the issue. But she never accepts she’s wrong ) She said I took her to my village to intimidate her in front of my family people, I was really angry and called her uncle and told him what happened. He said there was nothing wrong with what my mom told her (If you no fit carry the mango u for kuku put am for e head make e carry am na) and that he would talk to her .

I just think the things she went through in her family is affecting her physiological. And sometimes when I think about leaving her I feel pity because she can’t go back to her parents house.

You cannot remain in any relationship because of pity. You will end up hurting yourself. These are red flags already.

Apart from anger, she's also very rude. When you're given a gift, you appreciate even though you will give it away not going on to say you don't like it in the persons face not to talk of your future mother in-law. Hmmm

An angry person needs help(counselling & therapy) not a relationship.

Well, the red flags are numerous but the choice is still yours to make because you will eventually bear the consequences.

Dancing To The Rhythm of His Love (You)

RHYTHM – Episode 3 with Pastor Derwin Gray

Let’s go through some diagnostic procedures and check what’s going on in our hearts by asking these questions:
- Do you consistently feel that you don't measure up…maybe you don't measure up to your friends, you don't measure up at work, you don't measure up in your marriage, you don’t measure up to the person you are dating… you don't just measure up in life.
-Do you consistently feel like you're not enough, that you're not good enough, unworthy of love and you deserve to be treated the way you have been treated?

The truth is we allow people to treat us the way we feel about ourselves.

People continue with abusive, harmful and damaging relationship at the
end of the day because many of us feel like I am unworthy to be loved, I am unworthy to be treated with kindness and compassion, hence you see him/her doing you a favour by being in a relationship with you no matter how he/she treats you (like trash).
- When you talk to yourself (because the most important conversation you and I are ever going to have is talking to God and talking to ourselves – as a matter of fact we talk to ourselves more than anybody else), do you speak to yourself like someone you love? How much empathy and compassion do you have for yourself? How much grace do you have for yourself? How much encouraging words do you speak to yourself?

In this world, we are conditioned to love things that are beautiful to love things that are perfect. Yes, God is beautiful and perfect and you and I are not beautiful and we're not perfect at times we do ugly things, but God is telling us we can never love ourselves until we understand that God loved us when we were not perfect and unlovable.

The way we begin to love ourselves is to learn to dance to the rhythm of HIS love. Be honest with yourself and say I am not enough but
Jesus is my enough…outside of His love, I am unlovable but Jesus is my love…in Christ I have become something new and we learn how to dance to the rhythm of God's love, God wants you to see yourself as he sees you in Christ.

It is hard to love people around you when you don't love you. That insecurity clouds our minds and souls you, hence God wants us to see
ourselves as he sees us in Christ by opening our eyes to his amazing grace.
“Grace humbles us without degrading us and elevates us without inflating us.” – Dr. Ken Boa (1 Corinthians 6:17 CSB)

How Do You Dance to the RHYTHM of God’s Love?
-By remembering that in Christ, you are:
1. Loved (Psalms 86:3-5, 1 John 3:1 Zephaniah 3:17 NLT)
Always remember that in Christ you are loved. To be joined to Christ is the same thing as you are in Christ. You can't impress God - you are in
Christ Jesus and he has done the impressing for you. The Father loves you the way He loves His son Jesus…the way God the Father loves His
son is the way God the Father loves you.
John 3:1- See what great love the
Father has given us (some translations say lavished love). See what great love the Father has given us that we should be called God's children.
How can you not love yourself when God takes delight in you?

2. The Father’s Children (Ephesians 1:3-6 CSB) - Before time ever began, God decided that whoever trusts His son would be adopted…He
predestined us to be adopted as sons and daughters through Christ Jesus for himself. He's already signed the adoption papers not in ink but in the blood of Jesus…all you have to do is walk up and grab His hand and He will adopt you.

He has already paid the price, it wasn't with silver or gold,it was with the blood of Jesus. Jesus has verified you - Jesus is your verification. If nobody knows your name except for Jesus, that's enough and if everybody knows your name but Jesus doesn't know it, everybody knowing your name will never be enough - Jesus is our verification.

3. The Body of Christ (Romans 12:4-cool
We think our significance is going to come from accomplishments or what we've done or not done. But what makes us significant - we're the
body of Christ that's what makes us significant, not the number of IG, twitter or tik-tok followers you have. Your union with Jesus’ significance
is not something you strive for it's your birthright and it's not based on your accomplishments it's based on His accomplishments.

Grace is so unfair, the rhythm of God's love is so unfair because it's not dependent upon you, it is dependent upon the One who so loved the world
that He came to give us life.

Soul-tattoo: Read this affirmation daily - Father, Help me to believe that what You say about me is true. Help me to see what You see in me. Help me to take hold of who You say I am in Your beloved Son. Lord Jesus, Help me to believe I am loved with an unending Love. Help me to believe that I am clean and blameless because of Your precious blood. Help me believe that all that You say about me, and have done for me, is true. Holy Spirit, Help me believe that I am all that God says I am because of the grace of the One who is called The Great I Am. In Jesus name, Amen.

Since the Church cannot meet in the buildings at this time, why not use it for other beneficial purposes instead of just being locked up? This is a need he just met. RHYTHM – Episode 2 with Pastor Derwin Gray

The Rhythm of God’s Presence (Holy Spirit)

We are thankful that in this season of slowing down and staying at home that Jesus is captivating us afresh and we're going to be more
Jesus centered, Jesus focused and Jesus empowered. Through this we have the divine reset that is going to cause us to dance to the rhythm of God's grace.

As we continue into the Episode 2 of our RHYTHM series, we will be looking at the rhythm of God's presence.

What do you give someone that has everything? We try to give them our best and as a result of being human beings (being broken) we
think that God wants what we do, but the reality is this, it's to dance to the rhythm of God's grace
God simply wants you and that as we experience his presence we begin to dance to the rhythm of his purpose. His presence leads us to his loving purposes in our lives.

God is saying I've created you because I want a family to enjoy. I want you to experience my presence.

God has always desired a family that He could dwell with, and in doing so, His loving purposes for the world could be realized.
(Ezekiel 37:26-28 CSB)

How Do We Practice the Rhythm of God’s Presence?

By Remembering:
1)We are God’s dwelling. (Ephesians 2:19-22CSB, Hebrews 13:10-12 NLT). God has always wanted a dwelling God has always wanted his people to experience his presence. In the Garden of Eden we realize that in the cool of the day God walked with Adam and Eve that's an anthropomorphic term for his presence. All through the old
testament we see that God always want the children of Israel to experience his presence right from the giving of the 10 commandments to Moses, building the temple and everything that
comes with it.

When Jesus came, John 1:14 means God tabernacled and pitched his tent with us. Jesus replaces the temple with himself and then when
he ascends after his resurrection guess where the Holies of Holies is? If you follow Jesus you are the Holies of Holies! The God who has always wanted to be with you is the God who now indwells us.

2)We have the Counselor. (John 14:26 CSB, Galatians 5:16-25). The Greek word for counselor is “Paraclete” it means the Advocate - it's like a defense attorney in court. He's our advocate he
is with us. God will never leave us nor forsake us because his presence will not leave the children that his father has given to himself through Jesus.
When you remember that you are the Holies of
Holies, you are the sacred place that the king of kings lives in you, it changes our behavior.

3)We are a living sacrifice. (Romans 12:1-2). Do you know what a living sacrifice means? -A living dead thing - in other words there are
things we have to die to that impede what Christ wants to do in our lives. There are some relationships we need to die to there are some
habits that we need to die to there are some patterns of thinking that we need to die to so we can live.

4)We have His power, His ministry and His mission. (Acts 1:cool
Ministry is how we minister to each other as followers of Christ. Mission means how we minister to those outside of Christ. Open your
mouth, open your heart befriend people because they're made in the image of God but let them know that in Christ alone can they be clean. God desires for them to come and sit at his table and enjoy his presence that in God's presence is God's power that in God's presence is God's purpose for their lives. Christ wants to make us
new, he wants to turn caterpillars into butterflies, he wants to fill the world with a beautiful colorful array of butterflies he does this in Christ alone. We have access to the father through the spirit in Christ alone.

Soul-tattoo: Daily Prayer - Precious Holy Spirit, Remind me that I am in Christ and that Christ is in me. Remind me that He is my greatest treasure and that He is my life. Father, Remind me of Your mercy. Transform my mind with words of grace. May I be a living sacrifice! Lord Jesus, Remind me that Your ministry and
mission is my ministry and mission. In Jesus’ Name
