Akainzo:

This gets interesting. With this, you have proven that the flight originated from Abuja! So how come the Dana release stated that the flight left Lagos for Abuja, developed problem and then tried to get back to the Lagos airport

Which is the correct story??

Guy, there are conflicting stories. You know how nigerian reports are. Several news outlets reported the flight originated from Lagos to Abuja whilst others say that it wa a flight from Abuja to Lagos. Take for instance Vanguard reported that the flight flew in from Abuja towards lagos in this piece http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/06/jonathan-delares-3-days-of-mourning-for-plane-crash-victims/ and the NCAA ( nigerian Civil Aviation Authority) DG, Dr Harold Demuren confirmed flight originated from Abuja http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/06/investigation-into-dana-air-crash-has-begun-says-ncaa-boss/

Nobody is playing pranks tpia etc. Can u pls move on! A plane carrying over 160 people and the manifest that was previously published contained 130 or so names. Are ther not some names missing? Pls check this link where Amina's name was listed in the manifesto. http://www.nigerianeye.com/2012/06/manifest-of-dana-air-that-crashed-in.html. Rather than trying to discredit people, try and sympathise with pple who have lost loved ones.

Stop spreading rumors pls. . .The plane left from lagos to abuja. . .her status says she was travelling from abuja to lagos. . plssssss

Pls check your news reports> Flight left Abuja for Lagos. I have nothing to gain from posting such stories if false. 90% of news reports will tell u that it was a Lagos bound flight from Abuja. Few of our local news source are reporting that it was a lagos to Abuja flight which developed fault and was returning to the airport. Her friends in ABJ has confirmed the above but however I am not here to sensationalize news. I was just putting a human face to such a sad tragedy. Its up to u to believe what u want to believe.

Jokes Etc / Market Forces. What Do U Think?? by Lilboots(m): 4:46pm On May 25, 2012
Once upon a time in a village, a man appeared and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10. The villagers seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest and started catching them. The man bought thousands at $10 and as supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their effort. He further announced that he would now buy at $20. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again. Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms. The offer rate increased to $25 and the supply of monkeys became so little that it was an effort to even see a monkey, let alone catch it! The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at $100! However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on behalf of him. In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers. Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has collected. I will sell them to you at $75 and when the man returns from the city, you can sell it to him for $100 ." The villagers squeezed up with all their savings and bought all the monkeys. Then they never saw the man nor his assistant, only monkeys everywhere!! !

Hmm, the sight of that moi moi makes me so so hungry. Don't think it's been sold here in Bedford. I've eaten something akin to what you've got on the pic in south London in one the 9ja restaurants n it was so so sweet. Having moi moi for lunch? Enjoy! I don't have such ' luxuries' here. Lol

More Stories on This Section

I had travelled from Lagos to Port-Harcourt on Saturday, March, 10 2012, by 7.45a.m, in one of Nigeria’s airlines (name withheld by Daily Sun). The flight was smooth. When we touched down, an elderly man was complaining that his hand luggage had been swapped with another bag. I just laughed inside me, thinking that the man was not smart. I left the airport for the ceremony I went to attend in the Garden City.

I never knew it would be my turn to lament. As I opened my bag to bring out a bundle of N200 naira notes during the ceremony, I discovered that it had vanished. Evaporated into the thin air. The thing looked like cinema. I emptied my bag, searched and searched but the bundle of money was gone. It then dawned on me that the same fate that befell the man I disdained in the aircraft had befallen me. Thankfully, I had my ATM card, which I used to withdraw money.

I returned to Lagos the next day with the same airline, and after the plane had gained stability in the air, I asked to speak to the most senior air host. I gave my complaints, telling him it was informal, but just for his information.

They (two other crew members came to the back of the plane, beside the restroom) listened attentively to my story and sympathized deeply with me. But they gave me a rude shock when they said such happening was no longer new. According to them, it happens from Lagos to Port Harcourt, Lagos to Abuja, Lagos to Dubai, Lagos to UK and Lagos to USA. Bags have been missing in the past, with more than half a million naira gone; dollars have disappeared along international routes. They further explained that once a traveller passes through screening at the airport, everything in the bag is known and the cartel will put one of their agents on board to carry out the ‘business.’ I asked them to make a move to stop the evil, but they just laughed and said the cartel was powerful.

I suppose people should not carry money in a bag when travelling by air. If you must carry cash or other valuables, maintain eye contact throughout the duration of the flight (no sleeping, or napping, no dulling). Once, the plane taxis to a stop, grab your luggage at once, else someone will block your view while you are seated and the other agent will carry out the ‘business.’

My wife is still lamenting that the missing money could have made some difference in the kitchen. Please alert air travellers to be vigilant about their valuables. We are really living in perilous times.

Politics / Re: James Ibori Conviction: Nigerian Judicial System & EFCC Should Be Ashamed? by Lilboots(m): 6:55pm On Apr 18, 2012
kinguwem: The conviction of James Ibori in a UK court is a shame to Nigerians. The EFCC should be scrapped. All judiciary officers in the Ministry of Justice and judges who compromised his trial in Nigeria should be sacked. All the banks involved in the transfer of the looted funds abroad should be sanctioned. The nation's economy will collapse if massive looting of public funds is not controlled.

Shockingly nothing is said about this case in the corridors of powers in 9ja. The same judges would rule on other cases n d merry go round continues. Its a shame really. I was in London on the day of the trial n was so proud when I heard the news that this thief has been convicted. Proud that I live in a society where justice is upheld no matter who u r or how much u have. Sadly, I remember that I am not from here and that my roots lie in corruption-laden society where there is no solution in sight in the forseeable future

A shame really. watched the clip hours ago n couldn't help notice the massive scale of this guy's scam. It's a big shame that foriegners have to convict our thiefs for us. He has also confessed defrauding delta state and akwa ibom of their shares in V mobile (amounting to millions of pounds) alongside Victor Attah, erstwhile governor of A/ibom state, yet Vic Attah still walks around a free man in naija. The whole system is a mess.!! lipsrsealed

@erico2k2 => Thanks for your advice. Obviously she works part- time and the source of the money is not derived from the employment she is into. Even if she was a full time worker, I do not think she would have accumulated such savings in over 2 yrs whilst paying bills etc in the UK. The money (excess of £26K) was paid into her account over 2 yrs ago to carter for her studies e.t.c whilst she also works part time after school. So its not like the lump sum was paid into her account at once recently. Its been there for a long time and on top of that she also earns money and money is going and coming out of her account.
Whilst your observation might be right, erico2k2, I thought the main emphasis with the new rules was on availability of funds. Besides, when u look at her statement of account for the past year she has an income of about £500 plus monthly coming in and also there are outgoings too,but the balance remains at about £26k.
I will be presenting a 6 months recent statements (how many months are u expected to show this days??) which won't show anything abnormal.
I just wonder if there was anything in the arrangement cos I dont wanna have any slip-ups with my dependant visa.
Pls advice.

@Justwise- Thanx for the advice. She is wary of the 20 hours rule during school term. Obviously, she has a part-time job and schools as well. She doesn't work during school term apart from the odd hours here and there.

@Carnal -Thanx for replying. I think I would do that though I dont have much in my account ( abt N80K). I just wanted to be clear if the onus lies on her to prove that she can maintain me and not me proving that I can maintain myself cos' clearly I cannot do that with the funds in my account. I just wanted to be sure cos of these new laws that is applicable now.

Cheers

Student Dependant Visa ( with the new rules)

Hello All,
I intend joining my wife in the UK as she currently studying an undergraduate course in one of the Universities outside London. She willl be in her 2nd yr this Oct (of a 3yr course). I was wondering what documents to include as there are conflicting messages from the UKBA website and the BHC website. She would be sponsoring me (as in she has all the money for our expenses i.e £7,200 x 2 for living expenses plus her school fees). She has got almost £26,000 in her account showing money coming in and going out.
The question is I do not have much money in my personal account. One of the websites states that my wife (being the student) needs to show proof that she can take care of her dependants as well as herself. If that's the case then I am fine. Another website states that the dependants need to show proof that they can take care of themselves. Does it mean me showing my personal account as evidence or would using my wife's account be enough.
I was just wondering if there are members in the house who can advice me on what to do or if there has been anyone who has applied for student dependent visa with the new visa.
Cheers
