Tell your to check the SIM registration...nimc fit go mumu
NSEstudent:
You'd have to define what you mean by "as Airtel wanted". I'm not even living life as God wanted. I mean, I try my best but no be every written stuff I dey follow, na Airtel I go follow their rules grin

I know this their rules may imply not to use the sim on MIFI but I have to. If not make them come carry am. I'm always on the move and it won't make economic sense to have two subs running at the same time.

I think they have done this before and it was fixed. It's the time between now that it's happening and when they fix it that is painful. Usually they will increase the expiry date after this but still...

FWIW, my guy who is having the esim, has not been able to browse since he acquired the ODU. Initially they removed the bundle, then they put it back and added the extra days, but then they said he was suspended, later they put the sub back. Now they said he can't browse because his alternate number is MTNN. Customer service gave 24 hours, then 48 hours, later 72 hours. But nothing is fixed.

If you're using the ODU exactly as airtel wanted and you are having a down time, kindly indicate. I have two routers here and they are both working perfectly
since i got mine I've not tempered with anything...just using it as Airtel wanted and I've never had any problems. My sub is supposed to expire today self and I've used more than 700gb

Na the new excuse?

Of course na physical sim. I can't be using eSim wey I no go fit commot put for portable router.
you're sure removing it from ODU and putting inside portable router is not what's causing the problem? I once had an Airtel sim card that came with my Mifi that i was using on my phone and all of a sudden it stopped working till i put it back into my Mifi

Same here oooo, it stopped working this morning, I just thought it was a normal downtime which will be resolved in maybe an hour or two, I just said to myself let me come to this thread and see if I am the only one affected and I saw your post , I went straight to my airtel app only to see my unlimited balance has been wiped , when I click on buy bundles, the unlimited plan is no longer showing, it’s now showing normal phone data plans , no router plans anymore , called customer care , they requested for the IMEI of my ODU, and said it will be resolved in 24 hours, this is unacceptable angry
you're using physical sim?
PhonesRe: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by lilclin(m):
Only people I've seen have these kind of issues are people who subscribed via 3rd party
NSEstudent:
Airtel has progressively become worse in the last couple of weeks.

First, speeds came down to less than 20mbs, and then less than 10 at night. Calling them with their promises didn't solve the problem nor made any improvements.

This morning, I was unable to browse. After restarting and the problem continued, I called them just to be told I have no sub.

As how?

My sub is supposed to expire on 9th - Friday, not today. They now said I should wait 24h. Wait 24hrs and suspend my work and everything else I do because you guys wear incompetence as cloths? Na wa o

I for sub the other ODU but that will steal a few days from me.

PhonesRe: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by lilclin(m): 8:52pm On Jan 03
Mine has been working fine. 6th of this month will make it one month so i will just leave it
NSEstudent:
If you are not having problem with it, you may continue using it.

One of my guys who used MTN with the new X17U eSim version had his ODU stop working even with active sub. I took it upon myself to call their CC several times, talked to the supervisors and they said it stopped working because of the alternate number and that the line is suspended.

I tried changing the alt number using the hbb link that was shared here, and just like people complained, we neither received OTP on the MTN nor on the email it was registered with. I told him to take to Airtel office. Perhaps that's what you should do. I haven't heard from him though.
PhonesRe: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by lilclin(m): 7:29pm On Jan 03
Is it possible to change this alternate number because they used my MTN for mine
NSEstudent:
I would say Huawei or ZTE if you can find them.

If they are not, you can get any one. The esim is no issue so long as it registers and works before you leave their office. You can quietly swap the esim for a physical one.

Don't let them use MTN as your alternate number. So you should register a fresh normal Airtel Sim before going, if you don't already have one.
PhonesRe: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by lilclin(m): 4:01pm On Jan 01
But you will need to buy new SIM?
Anelka2021:

NSEstudent:
Bro they are not. I think what you meant is that they are of similar structure. They look alike.

We have talked about ZLT X17M, X17U; ZTE G5F, HUAWEI MAX 6. These are different.

Or do you mean something else?
I mean most of them share same outdoor unit (the one mounted outside). It's the indoor unit that are different models. I'm talking from my own experience
PhonesRe: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by lilclin(m): 5:57pm On Dec 26, 2025
Share the ones that are not same
olujosh301:
Not all the outdoor units are the same brand/model or specs
PhonesRe: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by lilclin(m): 11:15am On Dec 26, 2025
All ODU I've seen have physical SIM because the outdoor units are same model and that's where you can insert SIM
OHIsIManuEL:
If I get the ODU, can I use the sim on the old 4g Smart box?
Also, how do I ensure I get the physical sim version?
PhonesRe: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by lilclin(m): 10:11pm On Dec 25, 2025
ODU performs better
Lilsameey:
Hi,
I use the airtel 5g smartbox and my current location is about 15-20 minutes walk to the nearest Airtel Mast and when I got the router last year, I used to get the 5g lights, infact all the lights are always on and green. But earlier this year, The 5g lights stopped displaying and sometimes just come on for few seconds or minutes and turn off. The service has detoriated drastically and now I only get four lights (without the 5g lights) on with the signal lights blue most times. I tried everything possible and infact, change the network to 4g and edit the bands to unselect most of them just like I saw on this threads.
Paying the #30k and getting $hitty 20mbps network while I see people using the #25k 50mbps ODU plan makes me feel terrible.
Does the ODU perform better than the 5g Smartbox and if anyone had a similiar experience?
I will really appreciate your feedbacks.
PhonesRe: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by lilclin(m): 4:48pm On Dec 24, 2025
I've not seen any ODU that doesn't have physical sim. It's the outdoor unit that you will find where you can insert SIM card or use the esim
Osyxcel:
It's normal for Airtel to want to keep costs low since their speed offerings will still be met by this. More devices will still come and you may never see some again.

You didn't confirm if it uses physical SIM.
PhonesRe: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by lilclin(m): 10:42pm On Dec 23, 2025
You have to wait until current sub expires then resub
morikee:
Yeah it started working around midnight but the network is still throttled
PhonesRe: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by lilclin(m): 9:38pm On Dec 23, 2025
I have no idea on this so maybe when you reach their office you can find out
Tover:
Has anyone tested or use this odu , does it support physical Sim, I am planning to get on tomorrow
PhonesRe: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by lilclin(m): 9:36pm On Dec 23, 2025
I hope you've fixed it
morikee:
I think you're right i tried to add it on my Airtel app it's saying the number is invalid
PhonesRe: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by lilclin(m): 5:53pm On Dec 22, 2025
Sometimes the registration fails. I've seen people it happened to so check from Airtel office to be sure
morikee:
It's the internal eSim been using it for like 20 days +
PhonesRe: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by lilclin(m): 5:11pm On Dec 22, 2025
Check the SIM registration
morikee:
Out of no where my ODU eSIM no longer show network i had to open the device put on physical sim and it shows network so i was wondering what's the issue
PhonesRe: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by lilclin(m): 10:19am On Dec 22, 2025
Then know when to put lock on it so it can do you. About 3-4 devices are connected to mine and we haven't even used upto 350gb
morikee:
No be only me dey use am i mentioned that
PhonesRe: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by lilclin(m): 9:32am On Dec 22, 2025
I think 25k is a pretty good deal even with 1TB FUP
Mel1234:
I saw this somewhere about Airtel

The guy was suggesting that if you hit 1tb and speed gets throttled, you can call Airtel office to reset it, or you do it yourself.

However MTN now has 50mbps for 40k no FUP(it's not up to a month, so the fup isn't truly confirmed yet)(at least MTN claims no FUP)

If Airtel keeps doing the fup stuff, they might lose customers with need for more than 1tb monthly.
PhonesRe: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by lilclin(m): 9:30am On Dec 22, 2025
Na lie
morikee:
Exactly they now fully focus on the ODU
PhonesRe: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by lilclin(m): 6:35am On Dec 22, 2025
You're talking about a different plan altogether because what you just typed describes Airtel 20k router ultra plan that give you 100gb FUP and then 2gb daily for one month.....it's different form the 30k 20mbps unlimited plan
Ex0rrcist:
I think you're right, I noticed my data has been really bad for the past 3 days. Unusable in fact, I thought it's just a Airtel doing Airtel stuff, until I saw another thread of someone complaining of 100gb fup and your post too. I decided to check my data usage and I actually just hit 99.5gb on my router.

Note that this only affect the 20mbps plan. ODU looks like the cheapest route to unlimited plan for now.

That's good to hear. Enjoy
Unfaized:
Finally it's working well right now. I don't know if it was because of my initial complaint to Airtel yesterday or cause we turned the antenna one more time, but I noticed there's a new band 8 which wasn't present before and it corresponds with the improvement in speed.
PhonesRe: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by lilclin(m): 12:55pm On Dec 21, 2025
Ok. Goodluck
Unfaized:
Ok thanks. I am thinking of swapping to physical sim first. Because back then on the X25Pro all it took to fix this was to remove the sim card, clean and insert back, that's if all parameters are showing Ok.

Worked for me a few times. Will try swapping tomorrow. Will give feedback here.
PhonesRe: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by lilclin(m): 11:23am On Dec 21, 2025
If it's showing green then it should be working perfectly unless something is wrong so maybe just try the factory reset and see if it helps
Unfaized:
Yes it's showing green and all the parameters are looking great including signal strength and other values.

It's mounted on a dstv dish so I can turn it to face any direction. I've done that countless times to no avail.

Not even close. I was getting very good speeds until it rained. From the next day everything cast.

This usually happens once in a while but mainly with the older unlimited plan. If you go to move the ODU. At that point of movement the speed dramatically increases. But after that it's back to being terrible.
What's the colour of the ODU signal? Check if it's showing green. If it's not showing green then move it to another location
