Chinese social media app, TikTok, is still able to access notes on iphone users' clipboard, Apple's beta iOS 14 release has revealed, showing that the app has not kept to its promise early this year to stop accessing sensitive information on customers phones.

TikTok came under fire earlier this year for accessing devices’ clipboards, and in a statement promised to end it's snopping actions, but users testing the new operating system of Iphone have found TikTok has not kept its promise.

When the TikTok app accesses the clipboard on a device with iOS 14, a notification appears at the top showing that TikTok was looking at the clipboard every free strokes even when it was running in the background, the Telegraph reports. A video shared on Twitter shows a user typing a comment in the app and every few seconds a banner alert appears, letting him know that TikTok has accessed his clipboard.

However, this app is not the only one sneaking in the shadows. The Telegraph notes the banner appears on devices running on iOS 14 when using other apps including AccuWeather, AliExpress, Call of Duty Mobile, Google News, Overstock and Patreon.

A TikTok spokesperson in response to the new allegations says the company has taken note of 'the action' and that it has submitted an update to the App Store to have the feature removed.

TikTok last year was fined $5.7 million by US authorities to settle charges that it illegally collected personal information from children. The Federal Trade Commission said in February 2019 the penalty meted towards the social network, which had been known as Musical.ly, was the largest ever in a children's privacy investigation.

The app, which has been surging in popularity with young smartphone users , failed to obtain parental consent from its underage users as required by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), FTC officials said. FTC chairman Joe Simons said:

'The operators of Musical.ly - now known as TikTok - knew many children were using the app, but they still failed to seek parental consent before collecting names, email addresses, and other personal information from users under the age of 13.’

'This record penalty should be a reminder to all online services and websites that target children: We take enforcement of COPPA very seriously, and we will not tolerate companies that flagrantly ignore the law.'

Oworo people of Lokoja local government area have rejected the judgment of a Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja, ceding Lokoja, Kogi and Ajaokuta council areas to the Attah Igala. The people insisted that they, not the Nupe/Bassa-Nge, were the first settlers in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi state.

Reacting to the court decision in a statement which was signed by eight other traditional rulers in
Lokoja, the Olu of Oworo, Mallam Mohammed Baiyerohi said that the Federal High Court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the suit as land matters are territorial in nature and reserved for the State High Court where the land is situated.

“The Attah’s Igala claims to the ownership of Lokoja on the basis of the sale of the model farm site to the British has no authentic basis because to the explorers, what did not belong to Etsu -Masaba of Bida must belong to the Attah of Igala since they were the two popular kingdoms they knew on their arrival along the course of Niger between Idah and Bida.

He maiontained that the explorers were either ignorant or were misled about the existence of smaller tribes like Oworo, Kakanda, Egbiraland Koto, Ebira Okene and Bunu not until they finally came to settle in Lokoja.

“The ‘sale’ can therefore not be considered as a trade transaction but an inducement to enable them carry out a peaceful and hitch-free activities as you cannot sell what you do not have. The Attah of Igala claims of ownership/Lordship or proprietary rights of the stretch of land along the bank of River Niger without a definite description and identity of the land is therefore,obnoxious, ambiguous, uncertain, speculative and misleading.The proof of ownership based on the agreement in the Deed of Cession between him and the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland in 16 September, 1841 before independence of Nigeria cannot be binding on sovereign nation, because the colonial contract agreement did not consider the interest of the first settlers of the land, and hence unforceable in the sovereign nation of Nigeria.

The traditional also said that a known fact that the Aboriginal inhabitants of Lokoja (Oworo) and latter settlers like Kakanda, Nupe/Bassa-Nge, Ebira Koto and Hausas have never paid taxes, dues, rents, royalties and even loyalties to the Attah of Igala in pre-colonial, colonial and post-colonial era.
According to the statement,the original inhabitants of Lokoja were neither consulted nor joined in the suit, and to that extent denied the right to fair hearing as enshrined in Section 36 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999) as amended,”

On the position of the Lokoja Traditional council stating the Nupe as first settlers in Lokoja, the
statement reads further,

“The Oworo people are opposed to the claims of Lokoja Traditional council release of 9th June, 2020 of the first settlers in Lokoja. It is a distortion of historical facts for the Lokoja Traditional council to have ascribed the first settlers/original inhabitants of Lokoja to Nupe/Bassa-Nge without recourse to the Oworo ethnic group or even the Hausa that came later to the town on trade expedition from the northern Nigeria.

“The Oworo are the first settlers in and around Lokoja, with their first settlement called ‘OKENGA’ On top of the Plateau now known as Mount Patti. All these development came before the colonial incursions into the town. Other tribes like Nupe, Bassa-Nge arrived after the Oworo and during the Nupe/Bida raids, while the Hausas came up as traders or in retinue of banished Emirs.

The founding father of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos State Chapter, John Uche has expressed regret over the balkanization of the Igbo apex socio-cultural organization.

Recall that Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State Chapter has three factions headed by Solomon Ogbonna, Nnamdi Nwaigwe and Ruben Nwakor. However, the faction of Solomon Ogbonna is the one recognized by the national body of the organization.

Speaking when one of the factional presidents, Col. Nwakor (rtd).paid him a courtesy visit, Chief Uche who was the first president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos State chapter said that the visions of Ohanaeze Ndigbo which are to unite, project, promote and protect Igbo interest are no longer being followed. He said instead of using Ohanaeze Ndigbo to unite the Igbo, some people are now using it as a money making venture by collecting money from different political parties .
However, he said that efforts are being made to separate the chaff from the grain and return the
organization to its original vision.

He commended Nwakor and his group for remembering his struggles for Ndigbo in Lagos State and coming on the courtesy visit. According to him,since he left office,about two decades ago,Nwakor and his group are the only leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo that has come on courtesy visit to him. In his contribution, Nwakor said that what inspired the visit was a line in the Nigeria`s national anthem which has it that the labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain. He regreted that the house that Chief Uche labour to build to build (Ohanaeze Ndigbo),has collapsed.

Speaking further, he said that as a well- meaning Igbo man, he is ready to help to put the house together.

Rather, the ex-Super Eagles star posted photos of himself alone to wish his fans a happy new year. They also did not celebrate each other on their 10th wedding anniversary last year which was looked out for.

However they did celebrate during their ninth wedding anniversary with a dinner in 2018. It was star studded with celebrity musicians, comedians and actors. The World Health Organisation (WHO),has endorsed dexamethasone as ‘cure’ drug for saving lives of critically ill coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients. Dexamethasone is a breakthrough in the global race to discover a safe and effective drug for treatment and prevention of the disease.

The WHO welcomed the initial clinical trial results from the United Kingdom (UK) that showed
dexamethasone, a corticosteroid, can be life-saving for patients who are critically ill with COVID-19. According to preliminary findings shared with WHO, for patients on ventilators, the treatment was shown to reduce mortality by about one third, and for patients requiring only oxygen, mortality was cut by about one fifth. The benefit was only seen in patients seriously ill with COVID-19 and was not observed in patients with milder disease.

WHO Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said:

“This is the first treatment to be shown to reduce mortality in patients with COVID-19 requiring oxygen or ventilator support.

“This is great news and I congratulate the government of the UK, the University of Oxford, and the many hospitals and patients in the UK who have contributed to this life-saving scientific breakthrough.”

Dexamethasone is a steroid that has been used since the 1960s to reduce inflammation in a range of conditions, including inflammatory disorders and certain cancers. It has been listed on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines since 1977 in multiple formulations, and is currently off-patent and affordably available in most countries.

The global health body, in a statement, yesterday, said:

“The researchers shared initial insights about the results of the trial with WHO, and we are looking forward to the full data analysis in the coming days. WHO will coordinate a meta-analysis to increase our overall understanding of this intervention. WHO clinical guidance will be updated to reflect how and when the drug should be used in COVID-19.”

The endorsement of dexamethasone came yesterday as President Muhammadu Buhari said Nigeria was ready to support any joint action plan at regional and global levels to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic and its fallout. He, therefore, urged the international community to support initiatives aimed at sharing knowledge from research and science to fight the disease.The president spoke at a virtual extraordinary China-Africa summit on solidarity against the COVID-19 organised by the Forum for China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

“As we face a common pervasive and invisible enemy, it is important that we all remain united
to save our shared humanity, because this virus knows no borders.”
‘’The fight against a global pandemic that continues to take so many lives, threaten livelihoods and
challenging the very fabric of societies, requires enhanced cooperation and worldwide solidarity.

‘’I seize this opportunity to reiterate the need for this summit to put humanity at the centre of our vision for common prosperity.

‘’We must learn lessons and share knowledge from research, as we develop more creative, responsive and humane health systems, improve crisis management protocols and support each other in the battle against COVID-19,’’ he said.

The Nigerian leader also used the occasion to commend the Chinese government, the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and the WHO for their actions and measures to help developing and middle-income countries in Africa to tackle the pandemic. On the UN, the President praised the Secretary-General, for launching COVID-19 response and recovery fund for low and middle-income countries to tackle the health emergency, address social and economic consequences of the crisis and, strengthen the recovery efforts of most vulnerable countries.


The leadership of the global health body, WHO, was commended for its advice that enabled Nigeria take measures and enlighten its people on steps to avoid contracting and spreading the virus. Similarly, President Buhari acknowledged that Chinese support had tremendously strengthened Nigeria’s effort in combating COVID-19, adding that President Xi’s strong support had further demonstrated the spirit of solidarity and enhanced the bond of partnership that existed among FOCAC member-states. President Buhari also provided an update on what his administration has done since the tragedy of the global pandemic hit the country.


‘’From the outset of the pandemic, we in Nigeria instituted strong surveillance and infection prevention as well as control measures and made provisions to strengthen our testing capacities.


‘’Several well-equipped treatment and isolation centers were set up across the country to increase bed capacity.


‘’In the spirit of international collaboration, medical experts in Nigeria participated by video link in
learning and experience-sharing exercises organized by experts from various countries, including China’’.


Furthermore, the President said the Nigerian government had trained several thousands of healthcare workers, provided personal protective equipment to ensure the safety of frontline workers, and offered incentives for their motivation. With regard to restrictions in movements occasioned by the need to contain the spread of the disease, Buhari said the Federal Government created the enabling environment for farmers to safely plant andharvest during this rainy season in order to ensure that food security was not compromised.


‘’In addition, we took steps for prompt transportation of agricultural products and food items from rural production areas to the consumers and to industrial processing zones.

‘’We have also developed practical policies to protect lives and livelihoods at the same time and to
ensure our economy continues to function as we maintain an aggressive response to the pandemic,’’ he said.


The Chinese President said the summit was convened to discuss joint response to COVID-19 and renew fraternity with Africa. He said the world must mobilise resources and do whatever it takes to protect lives, adding that China would do whatever it could to support procurement of supplies, sending medical experts, and in other diverse ways.

It would seem that the presidency has finally caved in to criticisms of lopsided appointments into key national positions in President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.

Against this backdrop, President Buhari is said to have, therefore, approved the reshuffling of service chiefs and others. Those believed to have been subsequently approved for replacement are the National Security Adviser (NSA), the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Naval Staff, the Chief of Air Staff, and the Comptroller- General of Cus­toms.

Investigations by Daily Independent reveal that apart from the service chiefs, the NSA and the Customs boss, some key staff at the presidency and heads of some Federal Government agencies would be replaced. It was further learnt that the shake-up was sequel to a memo from the new Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Agboola Gambari, suggesting that there was an emergency to reshuffle Buhari’s cabinet to accommodate people from the southern part of the country.

The Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media, Garba Shehu has described the shooting in Aso Rock House involving security personnel attached to the First Lady, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, as a minor incident.

In a statement, he said that some mischief makers just want to make a mountain out of a mole hill.
The statement went as follows, “The Presidency wishes to acknowledge concerns expressed by several members of the public regarding the recent incident among the occupants of the State House which escalation led to the arrest of some staff by the police.

This is to assure all and everyone that the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces,
Muhammadu Buhari, is not, and was not at any time in any form of danger arising, either from deadly infections or the reported incident by security personnel which is currently under investigation. This particular incident happened outside the main residence of the President.
Armed guards and other security personnel assigned to the State House receive the necessary training of especially weapons handling and where they come short, their relevant agencies have their rules and regulations to immediately address them.

Having authorized the proper investigation to be carried out into this unfortunate incident by the Police, the President has acted in compliance with the rule of law. That a minor occurrence is being used by some critics to justify attacks on the government and the person of President Muhammadu Buhari beggars belief. In this particular instance, the President says the law should be allowed to take its course.”
