the governor didn't abandon all the ongoing projects, some are left for the mean time and to be revisited later. like I said earlier the ijoko / ota road is still on going with workers on site, that same ijoko road leads to agbado the OP is complaining about. maybe attention would be switched to the abandoned one in agbado once the ijoko road is completed. it is unfair to complain all the time especially when we know the current state.

some ppl will pretend as if they just drop down from mars and they are oblivious of the current economic climate in the country. many state govt are no longer executing capital projects anymore, I was in ijoko just over the weekend, a lot of work is going on , on that road, it's the same road that leads to agbado the OP is talking about and trying to deceive uninformed ppl that the govnor has done nothing in that part of the state. Since the return to democracy in 1999, no previous ogun state govt has touched any part of the boarder towns to lagos in ogun. you ppl will still not give credit to the governor that has given residents of those areas a sense of belonging

OGB was the governor for 8yrs did nothing .instead of u to critisize that u r saying rubbish here on naira land.

LAGOS—As the Yuletide activities kicks off nationwide, Lagos
State Government, through the state Emergency Management
Agency, LASEMA, has urged parents and guardians to warn
their children and wards to desist from the use of fireworks,
popularly called “banger,” even as it warned sellers against the
sale of the items.
General Manager LASEMA, Mr. Michael Akindele who gave the
warning yesterday, in his Alausa office, said that a special team
consisting of the agency, the police and other security
operatives have been mobilized to apprehend offenders within
the ambit of the law for prosecution.
He warned dealers and end users of fireworks to steer clear of
the state because of the potential hazard of the item to the
people and the environment.
Akindele reiterated the earlier ban on the use of the device by
Lagos State Police Commissioner in order to further ensure
safety of lives and properties in the state.
He recalled the ordeal of December 26, 2012 Jankara fire
outbreak caused by the storage of fireworks in some of the
shops leading to loss of lives and properties worth millions of
naira.
Akindele noted that the noise created by fireworks and the
large amounts of debris and fallout left over after shooting
may also cause health hazards and environmental nuisance
which could degenerate to disaster under certain conditions
and inimical to health of the communities and neighborhoods
where the users live.
“The careless use of fireworks may be dangerous to the users as
they stand the risks of sustaining burns and wounds as well as
harming bystanders or cause fire outbreak when thrown on
inflammable materials, in this period of fuel scarcity and
potential storage of it in homes and other public places,” he
said.

ENUGU—Students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, yesterday, urged the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu to quickly intervene over the compulsory laptop fee foisted on them by the university authority. New students of the university, who spoke to newsmen in separate interviews, described the N75,000 compulsory laptop levy as arbitrary. It was gathered that the university administration had recently introduced a mandatory policy, wherein all the students are being forced to own a laptop. One of the new students described the policy as inhuman, noting that, “it is so sad that they are making education so difficult for the poor. “With this policy, we would now be paying close to N200,000 in a federal university per session. This is wickedness. “As I speak to you, I’m helpless because my parents don’t have that kind of money. It is wrong for anyone to make computer ownership compulsory. It should be a matter of choice. The management should not use us to make money.” Also speaking another student called on the education minister to call the vice chancellor to order. “We are begging the minister to urgently intervene because they are turning this university to a market place. “If the vice chancellor is interested in doing laptop business, he should find a market for it, not placing such burden on poor students. “Some of our parents are leaving on N18,000 minimum wage; now they want them to pay N200,000 as school fees for one session. This is wickedness of the highest order. This computer ownership should be by choice,” he stated.

The recommendation by the Senate that all results for entry into tertiary institutions should last for three years will distort and delay the future of students across the country, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board has stated. The organisation therefore said it would be in the interest of the public for stakeholders to answer critical questions regarding such a policy. The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, said this in Abuja during the opening ceremony of JAMB-UNEB Benchmark on Item Banking. He argued that such a policy would obstruct the education progress of students across board. Ojerinde said that expressing reservations about the Senate position did not in any way signify opposition to cutting cost. He said, “There are complexities in this thing, until we are able to clear it. When you say you will use JAMB results for three years, is it an achievement test or aptitude test? However, are we delaying his or her life? Are we postponing his or her life by telling them to stay at home? If by next year he doesn’t get the cut off points, what happens? “I have nothing against the idea, because we will tell the children, ‘those bluffing Polytechnics and College of Education, go there and waste their time’, if it is a waste of time.” Ojerinde also informed journalists that cyber cafés across the country would no longer be allowed to register candidates for tertiary education examinations. “In the final analysis, cyber cafes are not allowed to register candidates for a number of reasons. Cyber cafés may have their address here today, tomorrow they are somewhere else,” he emphasised. He stated that if registration code was given to cyber cafés, they may mess the process up, thereby, creating crisis for JAMB. The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, represented by the Director of Tertiary Education, Hajia Hindatu Abdullahi, stated that “the results of large scale examinations conducted by examination bodies, such as JAMB, NECO and NABTEB, are necessary for decision making and should therefore be credible.” She said, “Consequently, the deployment of technology is very imperative if the results must be reliable. The role of technology in education cannot be over emphasised. Electronic item banking is consequent on the use of technology for item analysis and calibration.”

The president’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, who made this known in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, said the broadcast would be at 7a.m.

“All electronic media stations are kindly requested to join the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) for the broadcast,’’ the statement said.

It’s me again. First, I want to congratulate you for attaining 100 days in office. I can imagine that surviving 100 days has not been an easy walk, in a country that has been messed up since you left office unceremoniously in 1985. Upon your return to power, May 29 2015, you have done terrifically well within first 100 days. You’ve done so well that your predecessors have been stunned and Nigerians have not been able to comprehend what spell was cast on them all the while. You should have been life president.

Mr. President, within 100days and without a Minister of Power, you have single handedly generated electricity to almost 5000Mega Watts. This is what one of your predecessors spent a whopping $16billion trying to achieve in 8years, but you achieved it without spending a dime and in no time. Nigerians everywhere are complaining of constant power supply which is damaging the food in their freezers, because they are not used to constant power and cannot differentiate between the freezer and fridge compartments of their refrigerators. Mr. President, I now believe that miracles are real, for real. Within these 100 days, Mr. President, our rail systems have started working. The Kano – Port Harcourt train services you started constructing on May 29, when you hit the ground running are fully in operation since July, just two months after. Before you settled down, you started the construction of Port Harcourt refinery and ensured that it worked, now the Kaduna refinery is already working at over 90 percent efficiency, producing 1.5million litres of Premium Motor Spirit per day and saving Nigeria $5.33million just within 60 days. Baba, you are a miracle worker o.

On Corruption Issue On corruption, I heard that since you were declared winner, even before you were sworn in office, alleged criminals who looted our commonwealth have been trooping your residence to restitute. I even read somewhere that one former Minister returned $250million to you and I asked, did she do so via Internet banking or POS and to which bank account please? Baba, we didn’t know that you were more fearful than the law. We need to institutionalize you and have a law court called Buhari court of restitutions instead of the special courts you are about to create on corruption. Recently, you have been doing quite a lot to stem the rise of the dollar against Naira, well done. I read in Financial Times of August 16, 2015 that you got angry at the rise of the dollar and started cutting down trees in Abuja so that the dollar will fall against the Naira because dollars grow on trees, right? Sai Buhari.
Mr. President, I also read that the National Bureau of Statistics just released our economic growth rate at 2.35 percent when you met it at 6.45 percent. Baba, we need your miraculous works to be done here. If you cannot improve our economy don’t make it worse.

On assets declaration, I heard you have declared your “modest” assets to high heavens to the point where hosts of angels are clapping and singing your praise for not being a disappointment, as one of them. You didn’t allow the impunity that comes with occupying Aso villa to overwhelm you to the point of not giving a damn. You came to the Villa and you were not of the village and the village behavior was not found in you. Presidency Denial Recently, you have been on denial spree. Through your spokesmen, you have denied that you didn’t promise to publish assets publicly. You said it was your party, the APC that made the campaign promise. Baba, You would recall that during the National Assembly leadership saga involving Senate and House of Representatives leaderships respectively, you kept admonishing Senator Bukola Saraki and Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara to respect party supremacy. How come you do not want the same party supremacy to bind you on assets declaration? Oh, I forgot we are in animal farm.

During the campaign, you talked about your 100 days covenant while answering a question in Chatham House, London. Recently, Your Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity said it was your party that made the covenant with Nigerians, not you. While we were about to recover from that shocker, your party’s national publicity secretary came on air to say, the party never made such promise. Since all we have been hearing is probe, probe, probe. To be taken seriously, we would like you to probe yourself and your party, the APC on the campaign promises fraud. Charity they say begins at home. So, physician, heal thyself first.

Baba, need I remind you that you are Mai Gaskiya? Are you also going to deny that you didn’t promise unemployed graduates and the aged N5,000 monthly allowance? Are you also going to deny that you promised every pupil in school a meal per day? Are you going to deny that you promised to end Boko Haram by December, 2015? Are you also going to deny the revival of Ajaokuta steel company? Are you going to deny the promise to create three million jobs per year? Are you going to deny and denounce all the campaign promises and manifesto that looked like one of those unsolicited fraudulent emails one receives? It would be good to let us know that you can no longer fulfill any of the campaign promises you made instead of your supporters claiming the achievements of the past administration with your body language.

Yes to probing

My unequivocal answer to the question of whether President
Muhammadu Buhari should investigate the Goodluck Jonathan
administration for corruption is yes . This is not the first time I
would be saying this. It won’t be the last time either. At least for
as long as some people continue to act as if they can blackmail
everyone into silence on the matter by casting it as necessarily a
witch hunt, for that long would people like me continue to insist
we don’t all necessarily have to pretend that the Jonathan
administration was above board in spite of massive allegations and
sometimes proof of corruption against certain members of the
administration.
Although many supporters of that administration have tended to
portray the issue of probing as an attempt to get at Jonathan and
possibly have him jailed, that, in my view is not the point at all.
And it should not be except those making that claim, as the wife
of the former president, Patience, had alleged once in the heat of
the 2015 presidential campaign, are willing to accept the obvious
implication of their allegation. Which is that the former president
is corrupt. But I am sure that is neither their claim nor admission.
Their opposition to the issue of probe might be connected to the
possibility of the whole process being turned into a witch hunt of
the president. This is what Nigerians must watch against.
Otherwise, there is no reason in this world why Buhari should not
look into the past.


Selective approach

There have been a lot of talks in the past about probing former
office-holders whether at the federal, state or local government
level. But more often that not, nothing comes out of such talks.
Also when such warnings of probe are issued, they are often done
to scare and thereby silence opposition. Where probes are ever
attempted, they are dropped as soon as the individuals or groups
they are directed at read the writing on the wall correctly and
give up any challenge to the authority of those who have
succeeded them in office.
The possible exception in this case was the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission probe of some former office-holders
during the Obasanjo administration. Even that has been made
controversial by claims that the investigations were selective. This
might be true as those the Commission went for were often on the
wrong side of the Obasanjo administration. But that is not the
same thing as saying that those investigated had nothing to
answer for. Very often they were as guilty as sin.
The point some of us made on the issue of so-called selective
investigation of office-holders levelled against Obasanjo was that
whoever took over from him could continue from where he
stopped, that is go after those Obasanjo allegedly ignored in his
anti-corruption battles. But the fact that some people were not
probed should not be sufficient ground for letting everyone off
without question, or even rewarding them like is the case with a
former aviation minister found culpable of corruption but who is
now sitting pretty in the Nigeria’s upper legislative chamber as a
lawmaker.


Should have, would have, could have

If both Umar Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan chose to forfeit
their right to investigate the Obasanjo administration, it was
simply their own failure. Only they know why they failed or
refused to act. But that is hardly any reason why some people
should expect Buhari not to probe the immediate past
administration of Goodluck Jonathan.
Probing the Jonathan administration should not be confused with
probing Jonathan as a person, except something is found against
him. Jonathan’s major problem, his mistakes while in office, seems
to me to be more of omission than commission. He lacked control
over those who claimed to work for him. He allowed them free
rein to operate as they deemed fit with neither caution nor
control. He was too indulgent, too accommodating of all kinds of
nonsense to be an effective leader, much less one who commanded
the respect of even his own subordinates except the fawning ones.
My hunch therefore is that most of the rot that a possible probe
would uncover about the Jonathan administration would be
traceable mostly to his subordinates than to him personally. So far,
the allegations making the round of massive looting and siphoning
of funds abroad appear to justify my position.


The trail is still hot?

Although many of the potential culprits are beginning to feign ill
health and are accusing agents of the present administration of
harassment, we still must insist on their being probed while equally
insisting on the protection of their rights as citizens of this
country and as persons to be considered innocent until proven
guilty. But it simply won’t wash for them to continue to play the
ostrich in the vain hope that they won’t be held accountable for
their misdeeds.

There are solid grounds why the probe of past office holders
should start with the Jonathan administration. What happened
under that administration, the level of criminal negligence, to say
nothing of wilful destruction of the economy by corrupt office-
holders, is so stark and fresh for many Nigerians to see and feel.
The trail is still very hot and can be followed up for possible
discovery of unpardonable malfeasances.

Former governor of Lagos state, Babatunde Raji Fashola, is a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress. Because of his leadership and administrative style, Fashola is seen, especially by his admirers, as the major reason why Nigerians opted for a change in government at the federal level.
Recently, Fashola has come under intense criticism for “overinflated” or “elitist” contracts executed during his tenure. The information on these projects was published on the website of the Lagos state Bureau of Public Procurement. In his opinion piece for The Scoop, Bayo Adeyinka makes four deductions from Fashola’s present ordeal.

Lesson one: Fashola did not obey the law of power For a man who spent eight years in public office after a previous eight year stint as chief of staff and couldn’t build a political structure, Fashola is a political neophyte. Fashola’s naivety explains why he sought to push his own candidate against the wishes of his benefactor godfather at the last governorship elections – when it was clear he had no political base or platform. Fashola might understand the length and breadth of the roads in Lagos but he obviously doesn’t understand the dimensions of power. A man who couldn’t appoint his own deputy governor but thinks he can pull the rug under the feet of his godfather must be living in lala land. Fashola overestimated his capacity. His timing was wrong. His adversary was not ripe for picking. His strategy was poor. He could not understand the difference between governance and politics. He didn’t even control the State House of Assembly! He might have read Robert Greene’s 48 Laws of Power , but he didn’t master it. Robert Greene, while explaining one of the laws, wrote: “Deceive or outmanoeuvre some people and they will spend the rest of their lives seeking revenge. Choose your victims and opponents carefully, then – never offend or deceive the wrong person” . Fashola didn’t obey this law, and he’s paying dearly for it.

Lesson two: He dined with the Devil with a short spoon That’s one secret Tunde Bakare learnt when he was asked to sign an undated resignation letter when he contested as the vice- presidential candidate to President Buhari in 2011. That’s the secret Olorunnibe Mamora learnt when he was asked to back out of the senatorial elections in 2011. I hope the vice president, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, has learnt very well also having been in Jagaban’s corner for several years. It’s either absolute loyalty or nothing. It’s either full subservience, or you’re out. There is no in- between. You can’t look the master in the face. You must exhibit table manners when you go dining. If you still want to maintain your reputation, it’s better you don’t get involved at all. Lesson three: He does not understand the “fight” When I read his response to the N78m ‘websitegate’, I chuckled. One could sense that he wasn’t really willing to get into the mud like he wrote. Thankfully, he seemed to have known this was one battle he will never win. Fashola never had an input into who were his commissioners so it’s no wonder the serial leakages we’ve heard about in the last few weeks. We have to refer to Robert Greene again. Part of the explanation for law 15 states: “All great leaders since Moses have known that a feared enemy must be crushed completely. (Sometimes they have learned this the hard way.) If one ember is left alight, no matter how dimly it smoulders, a fire will eventually break out. More is lost through stopping halfway than through total annihilation: The enemy will recover, and will seek revenge. Crush him, not only in body but in spirit” . That’s what Jagaban and his team are doing to Fashola now. It’s a fight to finish. They still remember how Fashola was forgiven and given the second term ticket and what he eventually did to them.

Final lesson: There is a time to retreat and surrender Fashola has too much at stake and should quickly re-appraise current events so as to minimize the collateral damage already done to his reputation. Law 22 of Robert Greene’s book states: “When you are weaker, never fight for honour’s sake; choose surrender instead. Surrender gives you time to recover, time to torment and irritate your conqueror, time to wait for his power to wane. Do not give him the satisfaction of fighting and defeating you — surrender first. By turning the other cheek you infuriate and unsettle him. Make surrender a tool of power”. That is what I believe Fashola should do. There should be a rapprochement and it should start from him. I am a fan of Raji Fashola. I may not agree with him on every issue but I believe he’s one of the leading lights of his generation. I believe he stands head and shoulders above his contemporary governors in performance and espousing of ideas – maybe except Peter Obi. I believe he is one of the most qualified people to be in President Buhari’s cabinet. I believe his presence will give that cabinet a semblance of professionalism and seriousness. I think Jagaban should use that Yoruba methodology of using the right hand to deal with a child and drawing him closer with the left hand. One single Raji Fashola will add more value to PMB’s cabinet than several tens of others who may be appointed. That is why his constant pummelling by his own party won’t do anyone any good. People of goodwill need to step in and mediate urgently. Fashola is about to be consumed by the change he clamoured for.
