PoliticsConvoy Shooting: Report Yourself Or Be Declared Wanted, Police Tells Melaye by Limitednow(op): 6:21pm On Jul 20, 2018
THE Nigeria Police is set to declare Senator Dino Melaye wanted if he fails to turn himself in to answer questions on allegations he accused the force of.

Senator Melaye had accused the police of shooting at his convoy on his way to inaugurate a project in his constituency on Thursday in Kogi State.

Reacting on Friday, the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Mr Ali Janga, noted that while the allegations were untrue, the police opened fire in defence of a purported shooting by some individuals in the lawmaker’s convoy.

The police boss stated this on Friday while addressing newsmen in his office.

“Unidentified civilians inside (a vehicle in the convoy) decided to open fire on my policemen. You don’t expect the police to fold their arms; eventually they replied and opened fire too,” Janga said.

“Dino has been going round telling people that he was attacked by unidentified people armed men; no, they were real police officers.

“They were there on assignment. Nobody attacked Dino but rather, his convoy attacked my policemen and they repelled,” he added.

The commissioner while condemning the alleged assault on the police officers at the scene of the incident, said the lawmaker has been invited for questioning and that the police would be forced to declare the embattled lawmaker wanted, should he refuse to ignore their invitation.

“We are going after him (Melaye) and if we cannot see him, we will declare him wanted and we will send his name for watchlisting,” Janga said.

PoliticsI Am Still A Member Of APC – Ortom Clarifies by Limitednow(op): 5:24pm On Jul 19, 2018
SAMUEL Ortom, Benue governor, has said he is still a member of the ruling All Progressive Congress, (APC).

Governor Ortom backtracked days after he said he was no longer in the APC as he was issued a red card.

“As for party, I’ve been given the red card and I’m now outside the pitch. So, if I have been given the red card and I’m standing outside, that means I’m a free man,” Ortom had said.

“I don’t know what will happen next but I’m waiting. If others approach me, then I will tell the Benue people that I’m joining another football club,” he added.

His decision to reconsider his stance on the party was because of the outcome of a meeting he had with Adams Oshiomhole, the national chairman of the APC on Thursday at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.

“I was given red card by the senator who is their leader in Benue state and I took it as serious enough,” the governor restated on Thursday.

“But the leadership of the party told me that the decision of the party leadership at the national level is superior to any individual and I think that is good enough.

”We have spoken to him (Oshiomole), he has spoken to me, stakeholders are going to be spoken to and that is where I belong. We have not concluded the matter, it is an ongoing process because I have always stood for peace and I always want peace to prevail.

“I am here in APC, a member of APC, I am still flying the flag of APC and I only said I was given red card. I’ve been corrected by the national secretariat,” Ortom said.

Thanking the leadership for their intervention, he said he hoped they (leaders) would be able to resolve the matter.

On his part, Oshiomhole said the party does not issue red card to its members.

“APC does not have a red card in our cupboard so we can’t give what we don’t have.

“We recognised that in several states there could be legitimate legal issues, there could be agreements, disagreements, some contestations and this we are familiar with,” he said.

PoliticsWhy Ortom Gave Himself Red Card – APC by Limitednow(op): 3:37pm On Jul 19, 2018
THE All Progressive Congress (APC) has denied ousting Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, from the party.

Governor Ortom had earlier in the week claimed he was given a red card to exit the party.

But reacting, the Benue State chapter of APC denying the allegation said instead it was the governor that gave himself the said ‘red card.’

The party’s National leadership had earlier described the report as rumour.

In a statement on Thursday the state chapter said its demand for good governance on behalf of the people of the state was why the governor issued the red card to himself in a bid to shy away from accountability.

BELOW IS THE STATEMENT EMAILED TO HEADLINE

“The Benue State Chapter of the All progressives Congress, APC, wishes to clear the air on the current issue trending on both conventional and social media on the Party’s purported issuance of ‘red card to the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom,” the party said.

“We wish to State categorically that the Benue State chapter of the APC has not at any point given a red card to Governor Samuel Ortom or any other member of the party. Rather, the party at its last State Congress in Makurdi endorsed the Governor, Samuel Ortom, and leader of the party in the State, Senator (Dr.) George Akume for another term in office.

“The endorsement of the Governor and leader of the party was meant to further unite the party in the state and provide a stable political atmosphere for the governor and the leader of the party to deliver better dividends of democracy to the people of the state.

“In return for the endorsement by the State chapter of the party, we demanded from the Governor on behalf of the people of Benue State improved welfare for the people of the State. These demands became necessary due to the fact that despite several interventions by the Federal Government in form of bailouts, Paris Club Refunds, budgetary supports coupled with the huge borrowings by his administration amongst others, the State is still clouded with huge salary arrears and unpaid pensions of retired civil servants, huge deficits of basic infrastructure and porous security situation bedeviling the State.

“It is consequence upon these that as a party, we demanded explanations on the handling of affairs especially issues bothering on security in the State.

“We are grossly embarrassed that these issues raised with the governor in confidence for the purpose of repositioning governance to better the lot of Benue people and position the party on the path of victory ahead of the 2019 general elections is been juxtaposed and treated unclad without regard to the code of secrecy on which premise we laid our demands for better governance.

“It is however disheartening that the Governor, apparently trying to shy away from accountability and to portray the party in bad light before the unsuspecting members of the public, resorted to public show over the matter that should have been treated and resolved internally. This is surely not how to reciprocate the blind trust, respect, honour and confidence reposed on Mr. Samuel Ortom when he joined the party and was made its flag bearer within 24 hours after coming a distant third (3rd position) in the then PDP primaries.

“While urging our teaming stakeholders, supporters and fans to remain calm in the face of this turn of event in our political history, we wish to restate our commitment to the ideas of good governance which encompasses transparency, accountability, justice, mutual respect and fairness which we do not only preach but have made integral part of our party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Thank you.

Ortom’s Reported Exit Is A Rumour – APC

THE All Progressive Congress (APC) has described the exit of Benue Governor, Samuel Ortom, as a rumour.
https://www.headlineng.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Samuel-Ortom-Benue-Governor.jpg
Mr Ortom on Monday announced his exit from the APC. The governor said he was chased out hence his decision to leave.

He also hinted of decamping to any party that woos him.

Reacting, the APC who did not believe reports of the governor’s action said Ortom, known for his integrity, could not have dumped the party without first notifying it.

The National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, stated this while addressing newsmen shortly after the meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC),

“The party will not comment on the basis of rumour,” Oshiomhole said.

“I am sure that eventually we will find out the facts of the matter and we will now act.

“Governor Ortom is a respected, prominent member of the APC and he has said repeatedly to me that he will not leave the APC unless he was pushed out,” he added.

Governor Ortom, on Monday, while swearing in a newly appointed Special Adviser on Local Government and Cheftaincy Affairs, Jerome Torshimbe, at the banquet hall of the Government House in Makurdi, the state capital, noted that the APC gave him a red card.

“As for party, I’ve been given the red card and I’m now outside the pitch. So, if I have been given the red card and I’m standing outside, that means I’m a free man,” said Ortom.

“I don’t know what will happen next but I’m waiting. If others approach me, then I will tell the Benue people that I’m joining another football club,” he said.

PoliticsEkiti Election: Fayose Reacts Fayemi’s Victory by Limitednow(op): 4:54pm On Jul 16, 2018
OUTGOING Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has finally reacted to the victory of Kayode Fayemi.
https://www.headlineng.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Fayose.jpg
The governor-elect who contested on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) defeated Kolapo Olusola, Fayose’s deputy and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).

An undaunted Fayose who reacted on Monday said President Muhammadu Buhari demonstrated truly that “he is not a democrat, but a dictator and fascist per excellence.”

“It is only Buhari that will pride himself with the security shooting sporadically at polling centres , scaring people to pave the way for the APC thugs to snatch ballot boxes,” he said in a tweet via his twitter account.

He also lambasted presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, describing him as a fair weather fellow. The latter had mocked the governor in an article he published after Fayemi was declared winner of the election.

Shehu had described Fayose as a deceiver.

“The President should bury his head in shame for using the police, army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and INEC to snatch the mandate given to Olusola and deliver it to Fayemi “whom Ekiti people rejected.

“What Buhari won as referendum from Ekiti people , Nigerians, and international community is shame, big shame.

“If APC truly won, why was it that there was no jubilation in Ekiti ? That victory of Kayode Fayemi is pyrrhic, we will reclaim the stolen mandate in the court by the power of God.

“As for me, I am Peter Ayodele Fayose , I hold with my head high. I can never be suppressed. I don’t lose battles and I will not lose this. By the power of God, I will laugh last.

“The President should note what the Bible says which applies to him: “He that wears the armour should not boast as he that removes it.

“May God rescue our country,” he added.

On Shehu, Fayose said: “that fellow is not to be accorded any attention. Being a fair weather friend, he would soon desert his current pay masters.

“Garba Shehu was in the Presidency courtesy Atiku Abubakar for eight years and came back for this current dispensation still courtesy Abubakar. Now, he has abandoned the person who brought him to the limelight.”

PoliticsWhy Federal Legislators Formed Parliamentary Support Group At NASS by Limitednow(op): 1:44pm On Jun 09, 2018
ABDULMUMIN Jibrin, a member of Parliamentary Support Group (PSG) at the National Assembly has revealed why the group was formed.

The group made up of a gathering of legislators loyal to President Muhammadu Buhari sprung up during the recent amendment of the electoral act bill which sought to change the conduct of election sequence in the country.

The amendments proposed by the two chambers at the National Assembly sought to make some changes in the electoral act including changing the sequence of the 2019 election.

The federal lawmakers want their election to come up first, followed by that of state lawmakers and governors, and lastly the presidential election.

It was the adoption of the report by the two chambers that gave birth to the Parliamentary Support Group with its members accusing the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, of influencing it. Saraki on noticing the formation of the group disbanded it at upper legislative chamber.

The members of the group at the Senate known by HEADLINE include Senators Abdullahi Adamu and Ovie Omo-Agege. At the House of Reps, Jibrin is the only known member of the group as at press time.

When sent to Mr Buhari for his assent, he refused endorsing the bill citing infringement on the rights of the Independent National Electoral Commiasion, (INEC).

“The amendment to the sequence of elections in Section 25 of the principal act, may infringe upon the constitutionally guaranteed discretion of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to organise, undertake and supervise elections provided in Section 15(A) of the third statue to the Constitution,” Buhari said among other reasons he gave.

With the rejection of amendments by the president, the National Assembly threatened to override the president’s veto. A protest against the resolution from the group at the Senate got one of its member temporarily prevented from plenary though the suspended lawmaker has formally resumed.

After a joint closed door session on Tuesday the National Assembly tendered some resolutions it said needs the urgent attention of the president. It also threatened to exercise its constitutional power if its demands were not adhered to. Again this did not go down well with the PSG.

In a statement on Tuesday evening, the group said most people who spoke at the session were members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claiming its members tactically avoided airing their views to prevent violent confrontation during the session. The statement was signed by Jibrin and this may earn him another legislative sanction after he resumed from a 180 legislative days suspension for allegations of budget padding.

HEADLINE could not ascertain as at press time if the legislator got the approval of the members of his group before releasing the statement.

Analysing why PSG was formed on Thursday, Jibrin said this was because of the incessant attack on the person of the president from the National Assembly. He said the attack has also ridiculed the All Progressive Congress (APC)-led government.

“The Parliamentary Support Group PSG which primary objective is to support @MBuhari has come to stay in the House of Representatives and the National Assembly at large. The PSG in both chambers are working closely, comparing notes and integrating its programs and action plans,” Jibrin said.

“The PSG has become necessary because of the unabated attack on Mr President on the floor of the House. An action that has severally embarrassed the President and portray the APC lead government in bad light.

“While we focus on mobilizing support for Mr President in the House, we challenge the leadership of the APC caucus in the House of Representatives to stand up and be counted in support of our party, the APC and government. We hope they will do the needful.”

PSG Denies Plot To Impeach Dogara

The group also denied allegation of plotting the removal of Yakubu Dogara, Speaker of the House of Representatives stating why it began the collection of signatures at the lower chamber.

“We wish to categorically state that the ongoing taking of signatures of Members in the House of Representatives by the PSG is NOT for the purpose of impeaching the Speaker but to reaffirm our support for Mr President and consolidate his support base in the House.”

FORMER Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has reacted to allegation of frame-up by his principal, Olusegun Obasanjo, against the federal government.

Atiku who served under Obasanjo warned warned government against acts he said could aggravate tension in the country.

READ ATIKU’S STATEMENT BELOW:

Statement By former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Alarm Raised By former President Olusegun Obasanjo

I have received with serious concern the purported alert raised by former President Olusegun Obasanjo of an alleged plot by the government to arrest him on trumped up charges.

I am disturbed by this turn of events in our dear country considering the huge price that was paid for us to have democracy.

I wish to advise that government and its agents should retrace their steps to avoid aggravating the already over heated polity.

The alert by President Obasanjo is coming against the backdrop of earlier alerts by some leaders, especially those of the opposition of deliberate and orchestrated attempt to intimidate and frame them up.

I wish to state without equivocation that President Obasanjo is a historical figure in Nigeria’s democracy and that the primary purpose of government is to provide security of lives and property of all citizens and residents irrespective of their status, political affiliation, religious inclination and ethnic leanings.

Our nation has lost so much precious lives and property that we can no longer afford to travel that road again.

I wish to appeal to President Buhari to call the security agencies to order in order to douse the tension in the land.

THE Federal Government has reacted to allegation of frame-up levelled against it by former president, Olusegun Obasanjo.

Mr Obasanjo on Friday alleged that the government was plotting his arrest on false charges, detaining him indefinitely as punishment for speaking out against the government’s maladministration and ineptitude.

Information Minister, Lai Mohammed, in a statement issued in Lagos on Friday, reacted on behalf of the government said the Buhari Administration will not be distracted by “frivolous allegations from any quarter, especially those cleverly choreographed to divert attention from a widely-acclaimed presidential proclamation and to shore up support for a waning and egotistical cause”.

You’re All Reaping What You Sowed, Jonathan’s Aide Tells Obasanjo, Others

RENO Omokri, ex-preaidential aide to former president, Goodluck Jonathan, has tactically told his principal’s predecessor, former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, that his frame-up allegation was the fruit of what he sowed.

Omokri also described the travails of Senate President Bukola Saraki and that of Senator Dino Melaye as what they fostered.

The trio were among leading opposition politicians who kicked against the re-election of Jonathan in the 2015 poll.

Raising his alarm on Friday, Mr Obasanjo claimed that incumbent president, Muhammadu Buhari was nursing a plan to frame him up and detain him behind bars indefinitely.

The former President, who backed Mr. Buhari’s election in 2015, but has since turned one of the fiercest critics of the administration and urged the president not to seek re-election in an open letter said the latest move by the Buhari-led federal government was because of his epistle to him.

In his latest statement, OBJ, as he is fondly called, also alleged that the government was making moves to re-open investigation into the activities of his administration using false witnesses and documents.

HEADLINE recalls that he had threw the challenge while reacting to a recent claim by Mr Buhari that he frittered away $16 billion on phoney electricity projects. Obasanjo while describing the president as ignorant challenged anybody who wish to set up another panel of enquiry to do so if unsatisfied with the report of two investigative panel that had exonerated him at that time.

However, Omokri making a biblical reference told the trio that they were reaping what they sowed having joined hands with the then opposition to oust his principal during the 2015 presidential election.

“First they accused @dino_melaye of murder then @BukolaSaraki of masterminding an armed robbery, I wonder which lie they‘ll bring up against Obj? Maybe that he is the sponsor of Evans the Kidnapper!

“When Galatians 6:7 says ‘a man reaps what he sows’ never doubt it.

“All those who though they were showing Jonathan by manipulating the public against him in 2015, are now reaping what they sowed. The ‘dog and the baboon’ they brought to kill Jonathan have now turned on them,” Omokri tweeted on his twitter handle.

FORMER President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has accused incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari of planning to frame him up.

Mr Obasanjo made the allegation on Friday in a statement signed by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi.

Akinyemi dispatched the statements to journalists in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

The former president quoting his anonymous sources said his name was on the Watch List of Buhari’s administration.

Obasanjo said the security of his life cannot be guaranteed with the government’s latest move against him.

Obasanjo raising the alarm said since his State-of-the-Nation Special Statement on January 23, 2018, “the Federal Government had embarked on desperate efforts to frustrate, intimidate and blackmail him into abandoning what he termed ‘divine mandate to protect the rights of the people to better life and living'”.

The former Nigerian leader had urged the president not to seek a second term in office, citing underperformance. His advise has been waved away by Mr Buhari who has declared his intention to run in the 2019 election.

Mr Buhari recently accused Obasanjo of frittering away $16 billion on phoney electricity projects. Mr Obasanjo dismissed the claim saying the president was ignorant.

READ OBASANJO'S STATEMENT BELOW:

“Since Chief Olusegun Obasanjo declared in his State-of-the-Nation Special Statement on January 23, 2018, the desperation to frustrate, intimidate and blackmail him into abandoning his divine mandate to protect the rights of the people to better life and living continued unabated and has even taken a bizarre dimension.

“Impeccable security sources have alleged Chief Obasanjo’s name is on their Watch List and that the security of his life cannot be guaranteed.

“According to these informants, many of who are in the top echelon of the Nation’s security management and close to the corridors of power, the operatives are daily perfecting how to curtail the personal liberties of the former President and hang a crime on him.

“Ordinarily, we would not have dignified these reports with a response but for the fact that many of these informants are not known for flippant and frivolous talks. Secondly, this Government has demonstrably exhibited apathy, and in some cases, encouraged by its conduct, daily loss of lives and property in many States of the country, the office cannot be indifferent.

“We are currently in a nation where the Number Three citizen is currently being harangued and the Number Four citizen is facing similar threat within the same Government they serve. There is a groundswell of our nationals that live in fear that they could be hounded, harassed, maimed or even killed as the battle for 2019 takes this worrisome dimension.

“For Chief Obasanjo, this is a joke carried too far and being someone who do not act on unofficial information, he had cautioned all informants and adopted a wait-and-see attitude to the bestial propositions allegedly being contemplated to cow, cage and embarrass him.

“The content of the alleged beastly designs, it was learnt are two-fold for now. One, to seize his International Passport and clamp him into detention indefinitely, in order to prevent him from further expressing angst on the pervasive mediocrity in the quality of governance, economic management and in the protection of lives and property by the Government. But, since that could expose the Government to a swath of international condemnation, embarrassment and outrage, it is said that another plot being hatched is to cause the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to re-open investigation into the activities of Chief Obasanjo’s administration using false witnesses and documents. This will be a re- enactment of the Abacha era in which Chief Obasanjo was one of the principal victims.

PoliticsPolice Denies Withdrawing Saraki’s Invitation On Offa Robbery Allegations by Limitednow(op): 12:25am On Jun 08, 2018
THE Nigeria Police has denied withdrawing the invitation it extended to Senate President, Bukola Saraki, bordering on sponsorship of arrested Offa Robbery suspects.

According to the police on Sunday, five gang leaders claimed that they were political thugs of Mr Saraki and the Governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatah Ahmed. The top lawmaker was therefore urged to report himself to the force headquarters for questioning.

The duo separately denied having any links with the criminals shortly after the news broke. On Monday, Mr Saraki dispatched his aide to report to the force headquarters and report back to him with the formal invitation from the police.

Receiving the formal invitation Mr Saraki claimed he was asked by the police to no longer border making his physical appearance but to pen down his explanation in writing which must be submitted latest 72 hours.

Reacting, the police on Wednesday debunked the lawmaker’s claim, reaffirming that it did not withdrew it earlier invitation to him.

“Under the law, there is what we call joint act, anybody that facilitated the commission of an offence is culpable in that offence. If you procure somebody to commit an offence such a person is equally culpable, He has a case to answer,” police spokesman, Mr Jimoh Moshood said while addressing journalists on the subject matter.

Continuing he said, “If you sponsor or provide opportunity like firearms or other resources for people to commit an offence, such a person is equally culpable no matter how highly placed.

“The invitation was never withdrawn, I read it to you that the Senate President was been invited to come and answer to all the allegations levelled against him by the five gangs leaders here.

“As we speak, it is not until when you take somebody into custody before you investigate the person. Infact investigation is carried out even before somebody is taken to custody and like I said earlier on the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki has a case to answer and the police are proceeding with the investigation.

“There has not been any statement from the police to indicate that that invitation has been withdrawn.”

When asked if the force was planning on arresting Mr Saraki should he fail to appear as earlier summoned, the police spokesman answered, “the investigator will determine that.”

The police also claimed it now has new evidences linking Saraki to the arrested suspects.

PoliticsIGP Idris To Challenge Senate’s Unfit Declaration In Court by Limitednow(op): 6:05pm On May 10, 2018
THE Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Ibrahim Idris has resolved to challenge the declaration of the Senate wherein he was declared unfit to hold public office.

Mr Idris’ position was made known by the commissioner of Police (Legal), Force Headquarters, Mr. David Igbodo, on Thursday while featuring on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

The police boss and the National Assembly have not been on the same page since the arrest of Senator Dino Melaye over offences bordering on alleged murder and unlawful possession of firearms among several others.

The Senate has summoned Mr Idris to appear before it for three consecutive times. He refused to honour the invitations.

His defiance led to him been declared unfit to hold public office.

“That declaration, we are going to challenge it (in court),” he said. “We want the court to interpret whether each time the IGP is invited to appear before the National Assembly (NASS), whether he must, as a matter of fact, appear in person.”

Defending his principal, Igbodo explained that the IGP acted in accordance with the law by delegating the DIG to represent him in an official capacity.

“Official functions of the IGP can be performed by the DIG or the Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs). So why are they insisting that it must be the IGP to appear in person?

“What is personal about it? The facts are known to the DIG (Operations). The facts are known to all the DIGs. They are expected to brief the NASS, why are they making it personal?”

Igbodo further accused the lawmakers of making the issue personal, wondering why the police chief cannot assign another senior officer on official assignments.

The police had earlier absolved the IGP of blames, stressing that he is not an enemy of democracy as declared by the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki.

Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, had in a statement on Wednesday said the police is rather the first defender of democracy in Nigeria.

He said, “It is important to correct the impression created in the minds of the people from the Senate’s resolution that the IGP is not and will not be an enemy to democracy.”

PoliticsPolice: Why Thugs Overpowered Us, Gained Entrance Into Senate And Stole The Mace by Limitednow(op): 12:15pm On May 10, 2018
THE Nigeria Police has narrated why thugs overpowered its personnel at the National Assembly, gained entrance into the legislative chamber of the Nigerian Senate in broad day light and stole the chamber’s symbol of authority, the Mace.

Thugs had last month attacked the Senate while plenary was on and carted away the Mace in the presence of lawmakers and security personnel.

The incident raised concerns in some quarters how the thugs were able to gain entrance into the chamber despite all the security personnel attached to the National Assembly.

Narrating how they were overpowered by the thugs, the Sergeant-at-Arms to the National Assembly, Brighton Danwalex, said lack of non-functional security gadgets to enhance operational capacity was why the hoodlums gained entrance into the complex and carted away the Mace.

Danwalex stated this when he appeared before an investigative hearing into the incident by joint ad hoc committee probing the incident on Wednesday.

“There is no functional walkie-talkie; we would have alerted all the exit points.

“The CCTV is not functioning and there is only one operational patrol vehicle and the entrance into the white house requires biometric doors,” he said.

Danwalex said that report from investigation after the incident revealed that a senator, Ali Ndume, instructed the men assigned to protect the mace not to touch it during the invasion.

According to him, it was wrong for them to take orders from Mr Ndume.

“Security men are having challenges with some legislators because they don’t want to follow checks,” Danwalex said.

Narrating his own side of what transpired, the Divisional Police Officer in the National Assembly, Sulu-Gambari Abdul said what happened was an internal conspiracy.

Mr Abdul said what played out at the National Assembly on the said day the incident occurred was a conspiracy between some security agencies and some lawmakers.

“There should be a synergy between security agencies and the lawmakers but in this case the attack came from the roof as the senators are not helping security matters.

“On April 16, there was an earlier hint that a group planned to invade the National Assembly and disrupt activities, which called for a build-up of security with two units of mobile police mobilised to the complex.

“However, on April 18, at about 11 a.m., my attention was drawn to a group protesting at the gate, and while I moved to address the group I was informed that some people were running away with the mace.

“I signalled all the entry points that nobody drives in or out but three men approached me identifying themselves as security operatives and requested to be allowed to go.

“The strain of blood on their clothes made me suspicious and I ordered that they should be arrested.

“In all, six people were arrested same day and handed over to the Force Headquarters alongside charms recovered from them.

“In addition, an unmarked Prado jeep and a Toyota Hilux were impounded and they are with the police.

“It was later that I observed that the protest was a diversionary attention to move me out and that the protesters were same group with those that attacked,” Abdul said.

What baffles me is that the message was not denied during the 2015 election and now when they are remembered what they said years back they now discovered that he never made the comments.

PoliticsBuhari: I Never Promised Not To Receive Treatment Abroad by Limitednow(op):
PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has said there was never a time he promised not to receive medical treatment abroad.

Buhari stated this while reacting to a statement in circulation quoting him as making the promise while speaking as a presidential candidate at Chatham House, London.

He was alleged to have asked: “What is the difference between me and those who elected us to represent them, absolutely nothing. Why should Nigerian president not fly with other Nigerian public? Why do I need to embark on a foreign trip as a president with a huge crowd with public funds? Why do I need to go for a medical trip abroad if we cannot make our hospital (sic) functional?”

But in a statement issued on Wednesday, the president’s spokesman, Femi Adesina said the comments are false and are “a new dimension in the plot to diminish the stature of President Muhammadu Buhari before millions of Nigerians who love and adore their president”.

“First, it was a pernicious twisting and misinterpretation of the words of the president by mischievous elements, perhaps they can earn him opprobrium and infamy When they see that the gambit is not achieving the desired results, they have now gone into utter fabrication of apocryphal statements, which they purvey through the social media,” he said.

“Fortunately, the Chatham House lecture of 2015 is in the public domain. The concoction by haters and agents of disunity is not part of the text of the lecture at all.

“The morbid minds that created the falsehood simply want to de-market and demean the president, having seen that defeating him in a free and fair electoral contest is a tall order.

“Therefore, they desire to instigate the electorate against him by creating statements that never existed, and attributing such to him.”

The presidential spokesman, however, added that the “dubious” people will not succeed, as Buhari’s reputation “has been built over time, and sustained for decades.”

“That is why he is widely acclaimed for integrity, transparency, honour, and accountability, both home and abroad. Negative minds can never erode or corrode this,” he said.

PoliticsIGP Idris: Why I Ignored Senate’s Invitation For The Third Time by Limitednow(op): 11:52pm On May 09, 2018
But in a statement signed by police spokesperson, Jimoh Moshood, the police boss said he failed to appear for a third time Wednesday because he found no reason to do so, having learnt that the invitation was “a deliberate blackmail, witch-hunting, unfortunate and mischievous” on the part of senators.

He described the lawmakers as people who are trying to blackmail him into perverting the course of justice.
