Politics / Give Okorocha His Certificate Of Return – Court Orders INEC by Limitednow: 1:09pm On Jun 07, 2019
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue immediate past governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, his certificate of return.

Mr Okorocha who ran Imo West senatorial election was declared winner of the race but the electoral body refused issuing him his certificate of return.

INEC said the refusal to issue the senator-elect the document is because the declaration that produced him as winner of the February 23 exercise was done in duress.

But ruling on the issue on Friday, the presiding judge, Justice Okon Abang, frowned at the decision of INEC.

Mr Abang who ordered the immediate issuance of certificate to the former governor said the action of the electoral body was “lawless.”

The judge said any person declared a winner by the returning officer remains a winner until petitioners succeed in upturning the declaration at the election tribunal.

Politics / Senate Presidency: Why I Stepped Down For Lawan – Goje by Limitednow: 1:59pm On Jun 06, 2019
Danjuma Goje, lawmaker representing Gombe Central has withdrawn from the presidency race of the 9th Senate.

Mr Goje withdrew from the race after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday at the presidential villa, Abuja.

The former governor of Gombe State, accompanied by his colleague at the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, who is the preferred candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for the position met with the president.

Nasir El-rufai, Kaduna State governor, was said to have brokered the meeting between the legislators and the Nigerian leader.

Addressing State House Correspondents after the gathering, Mr Goje said he decided to step down because he was advised to do so.

He said President Muhammadu Buhari advised him to shelve his ambition and allow Mr Lawan who has been chosen by the party to contest the position.

Gone is not the only lawmaker who has been opposing the preferred candidate of the APC for the top job. Ali Ndume, another lawmaker from Borno, has refused to step down for Lawan despite threats of expulsion by the party.

The election for the top job holds next week Tuesday.

Politics / #8thsenatevaledictory: See How Nigerians Reacted As Saraki-led Senate Ends Today by Limitednow: 11:49am On Jun 06, 2019
The 8th Nigerian Senate under Bukola Saraki is expected to wind down its constitutional duties today paving way for the inauguration of the 9th Senate on June 11.

Mr Saraki emerged Senate President during his days in the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) against the wish of the party, and was deputised by Ike Ekweremadu from the opposing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The emergence of the top lawmaker to lead the legislative arm of government was largely seen as an attempt to thwart the aim of some political godfathers in the ruling party who wanted to install a stooge.

Several efforts to oust him from his position often met brick walls with the Senate President atimes outsmarting his opponents.

The Kwara lawmaker who later defected to the PDP enjoyed the support of his colleagues despite their political differences and this could be said to be responsible for his stay in office until the expiration of his tenure.

The PDP Director-General in this year’s presidential election will not be returning to the 9th Senate because he lost his re-election bid.

The Senate under Saraki has at different occasions clashed with the executive arm of government headed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Mr Buhari has often blamed the National Assembly as responsible for his administration’s inability to deliver on some of its campaign promises, policies and programmes.

One Thursday morning, one of the aides of the Senate President, Olu Onemola, on Twitter described the tenure of his principal at the red chamber as an impact-filled, productive and responsive one in the country’s history.

This has led to reactions from Nigerians on the micro-blogging site with hashtag #8thSenateValedictory.

Below are some of the reactions brought to you by POLITICS TIMES.

Politics / Atiku Not Fulani – PDP Chieftain Reveals Where Ex-vp Hails From by Limitednow: 5:17pm On Jun 05, 2019
Atiku Abubakar, the 2019 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not a Fulani by tribe, a chieftain of the opposition party has said.

Mr Abubakar, a former vice president, is believed to hail from the Fulani tribe. The PDP candidate also tried playing the tribal politics when he went to campaign in some Northern States.

He had tribally criticised President Muhammadu Buhari who at the time sought a second term in office on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Widely known as Atiku, the former vice president said the incumbent Nigerian leader is not an authentic Fulani.

“A real Fulani man would not drag his followers into extreme poverty like what is happening under the All Progressives Congress administration,” the PDP candidate said when he visited Jigawa State to sell his candidacy to the people.

Atiku lost the election to Buhari who began his second term last week and has since approached the tribunal challenging the outcome of the exercise.

A new twist has been added as a former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has insisted that the PDP candidate is not from the Fulani tribe.

Mr Fani-Kayode made the claim on Wednesday while warning Bola Tinubu, national leader of the APC, about the latter’s alliance with the Buhari administration.

Politics / Why Buhari, Osinbajo Are Hated By Some Nigerians – Lauretta Onochie by Limitednow: 10:02pm On Jun 03, 2019
The presidency has opined why its principal, President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, are being hated by some Nigerians.

Messrs Buhari and Osinbajo began their second term reign last week. Their first term in 2015 was historical and the first time the opposition candidate will unseat a sitting president.

When the duo took over power, Nigerians were expecting a total deviation from the manner with which governance was administered during the reign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Critics of the Buhari administration has often accused him of dividing Nigerians alone ethnic and religious lines.

Some accused him of turning blind eyes to corruption allegations against his allies and cronies despite claiming to rid the country of the anti-graft activities while dealing with opposition politicians.

His party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) earlier in the year promised to pardon those who looted the nation’s treasury only if they joining the now ruling party.

Stating why the president and his vice is being hated by some Nigerians, Lauretta Onochie, the president’s special assistant on social media, said this was because the duo are stumbling block to those intending to loot the nation’s treasury.

Politics / Shehu Sani Reveals What Must Be Done Before Creation Of State Police by Limitednow: 6:54pm On Jun 03, 2019
Shehu Sani, lawmaker representing Kaduna Central at the Senate has revealed what must be done for the creation of state and local government police to take effect.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on Monday received the report of the presidential panel on the reform of special anti-robbery squad (SARS), at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The report recommended the creation of state police to help curtail the rising insecurity across the country.

Receiving the report, the president thanked the panel for their work and directed Mohammed Adamu, the inspector-general of police to meet with the NHRC to work out the modalities of implementing the report within three months from the day it was received.

But the outgoing lawmaker has said before the creation of the force, the Nigerian Constitution has to be amended as this is the only way possible for the implementation of the report.

Politics / State Police: Why Nigerians Should Not Be Excited Yet – Fani-kayode by Limitednow: 6:34pm On Jun 03, 2019
Nigerians have been told not to get excited that their clamour for state police will be met under the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

This is coming from a former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, a known critic of the present administration.

POLITICS TIMES gathered that some online reports including a national daily had claimed the president has given his assent for the creation of state and local governments police.

This led to some Nigerians being cheerful that the insecurity facing the country will soon be brought to an end.

Advising Nigerians to camp their nervous, the former minister said there is no way the incumbent president will implement state policing. He argued that only Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could enforce the creation of state police.

Politics / Oshiomhole Talks Before Thinking – Oyegun Backs Resignation Call Of APC Chairman by Limitednow: 10:45pm On Jun 02, 2019
John Oyegun, former national chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) says Adams Oshiomhole, the incumbent chairman of the ruling party talks before thinking.

Mr Oyegun also threw his political weight behind the recent call for the resignation of the former Edo state governor.

The travails of Mr Oshiomhole began last year during the party's primaries to pick its candidates for this year's general election.

Some of the aggrieved aspirants who lost the tickets of the party accused the former governor of receiving kickbacks from the highest bidder for the tickets of the party. They also urged the top official to step aside.

Recently, the deputy national chairman of the APC, Lawan Shuaibu, called on Oshiomhole to resign, accusing him of incompetence.

Stakeholders of the ruling party in the South South region recently attributed the travails of the APC chairman to the legacy of his predecessor, Mr Oyegun.

But denying the allegation, the former party chairman backed the call for the resignation of the former governor saying the latter talks before thinking.

Oyegun said the continued stay in office of the embattled chairman is degrading and demarketing the party, rather than seek to bring more people on board.

Lauretta Onochie, an aide to President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed what she will do if her principal decides to fire her.

Ms Onochie, a controversial aide of the president on social media, repeatedly accused of peddling fake news, said she doesn't spread informations that are untrue.

She recently earned herself a 2 billion suit from Atiku Abubakar, the 2019 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for alleging the former vice president travelled to a foreign land in shop of terrorists who will make the country ungovernable for her principal.

She has also clashed with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) whom she described as "can of worms" with aim of milking the country dry.

In a recent interview published on Sun Newspaper, she has hinted that she will flee from the country if relieved of her job.

The presidential aide also said she will continue to support her principal even after leaving the country as she will not fold her hands and watch opposition politicians lampoon Mr Buhari.

That adsense is not verified, it is clearly stated in adsense policies that you must reach $10 before been verified.

Aside you can confirm this by switching to the payment area of the account, if you can edit your name and contact details, that is proof that it's not yet verified.

I am talking about the new policy which I think will be applied to all adsense account.

Politics / Buhari's Aide Reels Out 3 Political Lessons Learnt From 2011, 2015 & 2019 Electi by Limitednow: 12:48pm On May 25, 2019
An aide to President Muhammadu Buhari has reeled out 3 political lessons he learnt from 2011, 2015 and 2019 elections.

Tolu Ogunlesi who oversees Digital Communications at the presidency has described the sessions as the biggest he has learnt so far.

The lessons - which featured rotational zoning, a former president, an incumbent president and a state - are listed below:

Party Primaries must be transparent. Political Parties disregard Internal democracy at own peril.

Incumbents can be defeated. Technology can be a gamechanger (PVCs, Card Readers).

Zoning is not sacrosanct.

CONDUCT OF PARTY PRIMARIES: The recent judgement of the Supreme Court on the internal wangling of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) is a case study.

The apex court affirming the earlier position of the Court of Appeal, voided the primaries that produced the APC candidates. This development clearly avails the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) an opportunity to mount the saddle of leadership in the state.

DEFEAT OF INCUMBENT: The 2015 presidential election that saw former president Goodluck Jonathan fail in his re-election bid is another event that should not be waved away.

Mr Jonathan with the aid of card readers lost to incumbent president Muhammadu Buhari who has been re-elected for another term of four years.

The historic victory was the first time in the country, an opposition candidate will trounced a sitting president.

VIOLATION OF ZONING: There is an unwritten agreement that power should rotate between the two protectorates in the country.

POLITICS TIMES recalls that the demise of former president Musa Yar'adua two years after been sworn into office led to the breaching of the accord as Mr Jonathan who deputized him took over the mantle of leadership and refused to honour the agreement by contesting and winning the 2011 presidential election.

The same scenario is being expected to play out as the 2023 general draws near. Some individuals considered influential in the Northern part of the country has insisted that power will not go to the South in the coming general election.

Their grievances is that President Buhari has done nothing for the protectorate. They also alleged the the administration of the Nigerian leader has been hijacked by a prominent politician from the southern protectorate.

Politics / Shehu Sani Kicks Against Radio Station, Death Sentence On Herdsmen by Limitednow: 10:25am On May 25, 2019
Senator Shehu Sani representing Kaduna Central at the Senate has revealed what must be done for peace to return to the country.

Insecurity in Nigeria has recently worsened with kidnappers, bandits, armed herdsmen and Boko Haram terrorists having a field day.

The Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari as one of its measures to protect lives and properties, is dialoguing with herdsmen believed to be responsible for violent crimes across the country.

The administration has also obtained a radio station to be aired in Fulani language aimed at educating the herders on the need for peaceful co-existence with their host communities.

On its part to tackle the security situation, Katsina State has prescribed death sentence for kidnappers, cattle rustlers, among others.

But weighing in, the Kaduna lawmaker has said the measures taken by the federal and state governments are not the best approach to confront the situation.

The outgoing Senator said for peace to return, the country must be restructured politically and economically.

He said this must be done in accordance with the 2014 national conference report recommendations.
