I do not like to argue blindly, bros

If we are discussing, let us be realistic and not running here and there

Nigerian doctors deserve at least £5,000 per week.

Which government can pay that now?

Just start from here first.
You just dey swing go the extreme end with this pay talk.

How many doctors do we have in this country that government cannot pay properly since they have discovered just how important they are.
Literally allocate a part of our budget to the medical industry and pay them.. Then you can iron out requirements and whatnot.

You keep screaming how the US and UK pay more.
My guy the US and UK pay more for almost all jobs except 1..guess which..just guess....

OH yes to be a legislator 😂😂😂.

Once again not every doctor who japas actually wants to japa but these guys dey suffer shege.

I talked about hazard allowance before Unlimited22 and he has mentioned it.

Nawa.. I don tire to repeat myself

The solution is staring people in the face. But it doesn't affect them directly so they don't care.

Better working conditions, better remuneration. Gaskiya that is all.

The average salary in the English Championship is around 25-30k pounds per week if I'm not mistaken.
I have been a doctor officially since Feb 4, 2019. And in those 4+ years combined, I haven't earned up to a quarter of that.

How much do Nigerian lawmakers earn?

Go check the average starting salaries for agencies like NIMASA.

It's simple but nooooooo.....why should they want to leave? Who will we see to oppress??

Lol. the experienced doctors will leave and the younger ones will stay and you're assuming it'll be a lifesaver to you and millions.

There are only 12 consultant pediatric nephrologists in Nigeria and one of them, a professor, just left to become an INTERN in the US.

His salary as an intern is somewhere around 40-50k USD annually. His salary as a Professor and a consultant will be less than that if you calculate at 750, and you want people not to leave?

That aside, is the public school education only subsidised for health workers? Abi other professions have nothing to contribute to our country?
Honest question though. Coz I believe it would be a partial solution.

Do you think an increase of salary, and basically better compensation will help slow down the medical brain drain?

The lawmakers are skirting around the systemic problems facing the health sector and the country by extension. The level of japa we have now is as bad because of the APC's mismanagement in the past 8 years, and banning doctors from traveling out will not fix that problem.

This quick-fix policy that's being made a law has long-term implications which I'm sure our legislators haven't bothered to consider. When they're done with doctors I only wonder who else will fall in the chopping block.
People think this will stop at doctors.
You want to allow this stand and you think it won't extend to nursing, law, pharmacy, engineering, even IT related courses.

Again everybody who has gone and graduated from FG universities will be affected by this.

Peter Obi isn't the LP. I didn't vote and/or canvass for any other LP candidate asides Obi. He's the one I've known and whose sociopolitical journey I have followed with verifiable antecedence.

Only in coming heightened politicking/electioneering seasons would I be able to root for other candidates whose vetting process to verified candidacy I followed.

Obi isn't of the old hands.

That was the same way ASUU vowed to continue the strike. What happened?

After the doctors vowed to continue the strike, what now happened?

21st of September court ordered them to suspend strike, 27th of September they suspended the strike.

So you're saying the government met their demands in 6 days having not met it in more than one month before the court order grin

Ngige got a court order asking them to suspend the strike. Like ASUU they initially refused but reason prevailed eventually and they called off the strike.

This bill also sets a precedent for every other course.
Hope you people know.
As far as you go to a FG uni, you have subsidised education and this can be applied to you.

And let's ask ourselves why our education is subsidised in the first place.. We like mentioning the US and UK but we are not talking about how their economies provides enough jobs and options to do things compared to naija.

Nor be people dey argue in favour of fuel subsidy here.. How it will cause wahala because the government has not put things in place to help the citizens..

So which is it gan gan?

I mentioned them to further drive home a point.
That's more reason for doctors to not shift ground if they react to this bill.

No need to even use ASUU

These same doctors have gone on strike before or maybe they wanted to I can't remember clearly but I know that short man called Ngige conquered them and they either called off the strike or cancelled the planned strike.

If there's anything we have learnt from this APC government, no matter who you are, you can't fight them.
Ngige handled who?
You should use your search engine and check how the strike ended..

If a doctor goes on strike today, he is still open to negotiations. This is quite different from quitting and leaving

I don't know why you are using this example. I have been avoiding it because it doesn't match.

Or do doctors collect allowances from somewhere else when they are on strike?
You are stopping them from leaving.. You are not doing anything whatsoever to make employment worth it for them.. At the same time these doctors have consistently voiced their displeasure concerning what they earn.

And they watch politicians japa outside Nigeria to get treatment.

So why you think say doctors nor fit dey house for 3 months.. Offer private services once in awhile and still plan their japa..

Who you think say this thing go affect pass?

Bank EDs that earn well dey japa. People who work in Oil firms and earn good money, dey japa. PWc and KPMG guys that i admire in my Uber days, don full Canada.

So please, how well would you pay a doctor, that will make him denounce going to US and UK?

Let's be very realistic.

Can Tinubu pay £10/hour for a doctor?
Oga japa is not an easy process and alot of people will not japa if you offer them very good compensation.
At the very least you will even delay some to stay back longer before leaving.
People who are undergrads will also be affected and look forward to earning.

Not everyone that is japaing wants to japa and these are the people who these changes will convince to stay.
