Good afternoon all,

I am sorry (yes I trully am) about my absence.

Things got hard elsewhere and unfortunately I could not keep up with my commitment here.
Life throws us curveballs sometimes.

I had drop my writing to put food on the table.
A few other significant life reflecting events also happened.

Anyway no more morbid thoughts of what happened.

I hope everyone and their nearest and dearest are doing well and are ok.
I really missed my NL family

Trying to catch up with my stuff here before I say when I will post. But it will be soon.

Thank you all for reading in my absence and keeping the thread alive.

Tunde woke up abruptly and opened his eyes. He realised that he had just woken up from a very vivid intense dream, the experience left him troubled and afraid. It had been so real, he swore he could still feel the taste of the gutter he had seen in his dream, in his mouth.
It had been revolting, no gutter could smell like that in real life.

He was lying on his side, he stared blankly at the wall opposite him, as tried to orientate himself.

Where was he?

His heart was pounding and beating rapidly in response either to the dream or where he was.

He moved his head and blinked his eyes a few times and finally remembered where he was.

He remembered a nurse telling him that he had suffered a heart attack in a coffee shop and that he had been admitted to hospital, everything after that was vague.

He saw a nurse on the other side of the room speaking to another patient, he was thirsty and needed some water.
He feebly put a hand up to get her attention but she did not see him.

He tried to move to get to the water jug and plastic glass on the side table but he realised that he was a bit too weak to get up. So he decided to wait a bit and gather his strength or he would wait until the nurse came over to look at him.

He closed his eyes briefly, as he remembered in stark detail the dream he just had.
He rarely dreamed and the few times he had it had be a forewarning regarding pivotal events in his life.

The dream in question that he had just awoken from, had been about Linda and Enitan; it had looked and felt so real he thought to himself.
It was as if something was being shown to him, he was sure that there was a message in what he had being shown.

It was as if someone had taken him by the hand and walked him through Linda’s life with him being an unseen spectator.

Her life had been an eye opener and made for some uncomfortable viewing on his part.

The scales had finally fallen from his eyes, Linda was a perverted money grabbing gold digger.

How could he have been so blind?

He had met Linda through his friend Ike, at his club where she had been introduced to him as a caterer. Thinking about it now, he wondered what she had really been catering for?

It certainly hadn’t been food, he had never seen dirty pots in the kitchen, yet she always claimed that she cooked for him.

She had been in his club canvassing for men, men who were stupid enough to part with their hard earned cash.
He had fallen into her trap, but he had to accept his complicity as he had encouraged her.

He had been so fVcking stupid.

He had also been flush with the money at the time he had met Linda; even though the money wasn’t his, it was Enitan’s. He had felt invincible and powerful; he had wanted to show off to someone and who better to show off to.
Than to the girls that flocked the club, the girls who were only there for one thing.

Enitan had put down the money for them to start their construction business; Enitan’s money that had come from her inheritance and a loan she had personally taken out at work. She had willingly handed the money over to him, she had trusted him and God knows how he had repaid her.

Even in his weakened state the guilt pangs he was now feeling were devastating. His heart started beating rapidly as he thought about the money he had spent on Linda that he should not have spent.

Whoever said guilt was not a burden on the heart lied, he could feel the weight on his heart as if it were a heavy lead ballon.

All the time he had goaded Enitan, not once had she thrown it in his face, or tried cutting him down to size regarding the source of his pompousness all over town. He tried to rake his hand through his hair as these thoughts went through his mind, but he couldn’t lift his arm.

Enitan please forgive me, he whispered.

He wished and hoped he had the opportunity to speak to his daughter Tobi and warn her about marriage and men; warn her about men like him.

In one part of the dream he had been in a room where Linda was speaking to a man about him. It was evident that the man she was speaking to was a babalawo.

Chai he thought.

Linda had finished him.

She had given the man some of his stuff and she had also handed over his semen.

How had she secured that, stupid man he said to himself, he had never used any protection with Linda.

He had bought the whole I am not one of the girls routine from her.

He heard the babalawo say to her that from now on Tunde would do anything for her, without questioning.
So what he had found in the flat hadn't been a figment of his imagination after all.

He needed to warn his friend Ike, as his name had also been in a jar at the back of her wardrobe.
Yuk he had been dipping his wick into the same place as his friend.

How many men at his club was she actually sleeping with?

How many men had she infected?

He saw the man tell her again that Tunde would now do anything for her after he had cast the spell for her.
It had worked, everything she had asked for he had given her, he hadn’t even thought to himself that hold on, why am I doing this.

He also heard the man say to her that his wife was not going to be easy to get rid of. The man had been talking about Enitan.

He had felt his heart skip a beat even in his dream; Linda.

Linda had been willing to get rid of Enitan?

Mo gbe o, he thought to himself

Linda was a wicked soul. But why?

Linda had five men’s destiny in her hands from what he had seen, why go for so many?

How much money did a woman need?

But his conscience came to the fore, as he remembered the way he had treated his wife. He had also been a willing participant in denigrating his wife at every turn.

He had beaten her more times than he could remember, just seeing her had enraged him.

Poor Enitan, he must have been off his rocket for real or he had been high on expired beans for him to treat her that way.

He thought back to the way he had talked about her to their son. He and his son had nearly come to blows, the respect his son had for him as an elder and Father had prevented his son for punching him; it had been that bad. He did not know if he would see his son again, they had not spoken since that day more than a year ago.

Enitan please forgive me he whispered again.

The scene moved on from there to Linda being on a plane. She was going to Dubai; he remembered handing over the rent money he had just collected to Linda, for her trip to Dubai. That had been money that should have gone into some repairs at one of their residences. He had also initially planned to give some of the money to the twins for maintenance at school.
Instead when the kids had come to him he had told them to leave him alone and go to their Mother.

Before the scene began, the dream had shown him the most foul and smelling gutter he had ever come across in his life, there were cat sized rats and rodent sized maggots in it. In the dream he was dipping his leg into the vile repugnant depths of the gutter, the message could not have been clearer.

The next scene showed him what Linda had been doing in Dubai. She hadn't gone there to buy stuff as she had told him, she had gone there to consort with more men. Only the men she had gone to see were the most jaded of human beings he had even seen. If the gutter scene hadn’t warned him before he was now shown the real meaning behind the gutter metaphor.

The things he saw her do with the men, made the bile come up his throat even now as he remembered the dream. She had negotiated money with the men for the acts she did, she had consented willingly for those men and things to do what they wanted, all in the name of money.

Linda, why? Why did you do this, what kind of money obsession do you have.

Linda had definitely given him the syphilis there was no doubt about that; the syphilis that had ended up being his death sentence.
If only he had heeded to Enitan’s health warnings, when she had tried to talk to him.

However he also acknowledged his own actions in the matter at hand, if he hadn’t felt compelled to have a side chick, he would not be in this mess.

Enitan had been the best wife anyone could ask for. She was beautiful, intelligent, loyal and hard working. She had been a real home maker and he had messed it up fatally for a piece of money grabbing arse like Linda.

He lifted up his hand again to the nurse, but she did not see him.

Chapter 48

Enitan watched as Dele got into his car ready to drive away and waved to him as he pulled out of the road.

She pulled the blinds and rested her head on the window. She was emotionally drained, the news she had received from the doctor had shocked her.

Dele turning up on her doorstep had not helped, she had wanted to be alone and reflect on the events she currently found herself in.

What was she going to do?

What was she going to say to tell his kids?

The consequences of people’s actions were sometimes more far reaching than people realised.

She had left the hospital the minute the Doctor had told her about Tunde’s diagnosis. She was still in shock.

Tunde what have you done to yourself, she thought to herself as she moved away from the window and cleared away the cups from her living room.

Tunde had always messed around during their marriage, but she never had incontrovertible proof. Whenever she had confronted him he had always lied, until this Linda girl had turned up when everything had changed.

Where had he met her?

She had not been able to tell Dele what Tunde had been diagnosed with and as far as she was concerned she would never tell him.

She was still contemplating what she would tell his kids.

She thought back to that fateful day that had led to Tunde coming to her for s3x as she put the cups in the sink of her kitchen.

The state of her marriage at that time had been turbulent, anything she did or did not do was a source for argument and irritation on Tunde’s part. Tunde was always in a bad mood whenever he saw her, it was like her mere presence in the house annoyed and angered him.

Trivial things like the way she parked would set him off; she would always tried to appease him just for the sake of peace and harmony in the home.
Just for the sake of holding on to her marriage.

But that sense and duty of perseverance seemed to annoy Tunde more.

He would drop random remarks sometimes, after watching a film for instance, about the lengths women would go to just to stay married.

He was always goading her and from what she could see he was trying to provoke her to see how far he could push her to snap and breakdown.
It was obvious that he wanted her out of the house.

She had been close to snapping a few times. One particular day when he had slapped her when she had dared to question something he had said.
‘There can only be one captain on this ship and that is me, your opinion does not count,’ he had screamed at her.

That had been one of the days when she had nearly walked out, but her friends had persuaded her to stay. What you going through is normal they had said, marriage was not a bed of roses.

She always wondered why people used that phrase, roses were not the friendliest of flowers. The thorns sometimes stopped you dead in your tracks. Similar to what was going on in her life, the thorns Tunde kept on laying her way were sharp and painful.

She had spent a lot of that time crying and feeling sorry for herself. Lying to friends and her children regarding the bruises that showed up on her arms and face.

If only her children knew what she had gone through, she had made sure they never knew how vile their Father really was. They had come to their opinion of their Father based on the verbal abuse he had rained on her when they had been around.

Her friends who she had poured her heart out to, had kept on telling her to get closer to God and pray, that a miracle would happen.

Her friends had said that Tunde had been bewitched and it wasn’t normal the way he was behaving. She had prayed and fasted; she had lost sleep over her marriage and family but nothing had changed for her.

It seemed to make things worse, Tunde changed and she knew the reason why. It had been due to the new girl he was seeing. It was as if he was possessed and he wanted to get Enitan out of the house and bring her in.

She had been resolute in her resolve that neither Tunde nor Linda would drive her out of her matrimonial home.

She had been in bed that night drifting off to sleep when she heard him arrive home. He had gone to the other room to change, as she buried her head in bed annoyed that he had been particularly loud in coming home.

He had come into the room and sat on the side of the bed where she was lying and with no ado he had pulled her legs apart. This was a man who had not spoken to her in days and when he had, he had insulted terribly her in front of the kids.

It had been a hurtful and vindictive tirade from him as usual.

He continued trying to pull her leg’s apart.

‘Tunde please leave me alone.’

‘I am tired and I am trying to sleep.’

‘Are you trying to tell me I can’t sleep with my wife? He had asked her.

‘You should count yourself lucky that I want to sleep with an old woman like you.’ He had said, the smugness evident in his voice.

Tears pricked her eyes in the dark and a few slid down her cheeks, why was he being horrible to her.

He made her feel small and inconsequential in that moment.

When had Tunde become such a person?

Why was this man being horrible and nasty to her and still expected her to fulfil her wifely duties.

‘Why are you acting difficult nah,’ he had said.

He continued stroking her leg.

Tunde had not come near her by that time in more than 18 months. She had initially thought that allowing some intimacy might help change things for them.

But now she thought otherwise, after the insults he had just rained on her in what should have been an intimate moment.

He moved closer, and started taking off his trousers.

His trousers came off and he put a knee on the bed, and used his hand to part her legs.

The thought of sleep immediately disappeared from Enitan’s mind.

She wasn’t ready for him to treat her like a thing that he needed to help get rid of an itch.

This had to stop.

As he moved in closer Enitan pushed him away.

‘What’s the matter now?’ he said.

‘I am not allowing you to sleep with me if you don’t have a condom.’ She replied in the dark of the room.

He went quiet, the next thing she knew he had slapped her across the face.

Her hands went up to her face in shock. She moved to get up from the bed.

‘Why do I have to use condom?’ He asked her.
