Chapter 46

Mona Hassan woke up from a restless night’s sleep that had seen her tossing and turning on her thousand thread count Egyptian cotton sheets. The expensive sheets hadn’t provided any comfort from the memories and nightmares that lurked just below the surface of her mind.

She wished she had the ability to erase them forever, but they were like a scar that didn’t want to heal. It looked like it had healed on the surface, but one small scratch and the scar reopened only to bleed again.

Lola was still asleep in her basket on the other side of the room, she had trained her to wake up when she heard her stir, but today, well for now she would overlook that infraction and she would let her sleep a little bit longer.

That was a mistake, as the memories she tried to keep at bay seeped through in 4D clarity. The memories decided that now was the time to come out and torment her.

She was briefly transported to the time when she had been in exactly the same position as Lola; only for her it had been her Uncle that she had had to kneel in front of on the bed every morning and wake him up the way he had brutally trained her to do.

She had learnt that duty the very hard way.

Mona grew up in a house where though they were not rich, they were not poor. Her Mother and Father were in love, they had their ups and downs as most couples did, but they loved each other. Her Mother was beautiful and had been spoilt by her parents, her Father had spoilt her Mother as well.

The brief time Mona had spent with her parents had been full of happy memories.

The one thing that caused a lot of friction in her parent’s relationship was her Father’s estrangement from his family. It pained her Mother that her Father was ostracised and did not get to enjoy the family wealth.

As far as her Mother was concerned it was her Father’s right to have part of that wealth and the privilege that came with it in the town they lived in.

The family, in reality the men; had a thriving family business. Her Father had married outside of their faith and tribe and as a result of that his family had disowned him. When Mona and her Mum were in town the other family members ignored them, they were treated like they did not exist.

The other people in the town ignored them as well, as the women in the town looked at her Mother with scorn. What did she have that they did not possess? Why had he gone outside of their town to find a wife?

The rest of her Father’s brothers were well off; however, there was a deadly rivalry between the brothers, even though they had the same father they all had different mothers. Which explained the rivalry between them, they hated each other as most children in polygamous homes did.

On Mona’s tenth birthday everything changed when her Dad died suddenly. Her Mum suspected he had been poisoned, Mona was too young to know whether that was possible or even true. What she did know was that her life took a turn for the worse. Her Mum having never worked in her life was pregnant, a widow and could not cope with all the demands for bills that kept turning up like a rash.

Things got to a head when Mona was threatened with expulsion from school due to non-payment of school fees.

Mona was a gifted child, all her teachers had told her parents again and again at each parents evening. By the time Mona was ten she could read, write and speak English and French fluently. But she never flaunted it or displayed that she had that skill; as far as her family was concerned the only language she could speak was Arabic.
Plus in their part of the world what was the point of learning all those languages, when she would get married off to someone before she was even out of school.

As a last resort and not wanting Mona to miss out on school and her education. Mona’s Mother had swallowed her pride and had gone bowl in hand and knees on the floor to her late husband’s brother to ask for help with Mona’s school fees and upkeep.

At ten Mona had started developing into a beautiful young girl, that detail had not escaped her Uncle’s attention.

Her Uncle, her late Father’s elder brother and was the first boy of the family; he had 4 wives and ran his house with an iron rod and violence.

His wives lived in fear of him, unfortunately they could not divorce him as it would bring dishonour on their own families. They would either be sent back to their husband or be offered ways to end their lives; if they even thought about bringing shame on their families. So the women stuck it out and tried to avoid their husband as much as they could get away with.

Her Mother had begged and cried to her Uncle to ask if Mona could stay with him while she continued school as she could not afford it.
Her Mother in a last ditch attempt of desperation, suggested that Mona could help around the house, the unsaid barter had not escaped her Uncle’s notice.

In hindsight what additional help did a man with 4 wives really need?

If only she knew at the time, that the help all the wives’ needed was to get their violent sexual sadist husband off their backs, Mona’s Mum might have said no.

Her Uncle after two days of begging on her Mother’s part agreed for Mona to come and live with him.

Mona’s Mum said she would come back and get her, she needed time to get herself together. She was going to go back to her parents’ house and have the baby and would come back and get Mona once she started work.

Mona never saw her mother again.

As the next wave of horrific memories were about to come to wash over her, she clamped them shut.

Lola still hadn’t appeared, she was now in a bad mood and someone had to pay.

‘Lola why are you not here on your knees between my legs?’ she shouted.

‘If you don’t get your stupid face here now, you know what will happen to you.’ She continued.

She picked up the cane next to the bed as she waited for Lola to make an appearance.

She was her Uncle's niece after all.

Episode 10 by Lleigh

I had been very upset when my Mum had screamed at me, why was she so angry at me for letting the Uncle in. I had been lucky with him he had given me sweets and I was hoping to share them with my Mum later that evening, I was hoping that they would cheer her up too, my Mum liked sweets as well.

She used to buy me a lot of sweets, them she stopped. It had made me very sad.

My intention had been to go back and apologise to my Mum I knew she was still in a lot pain from what the other Uncle had done to her. I did not want to cause her any more upset.

I was still unsure why had the other Uncle had hurt her, I wondered. Especially when she had been complaining about her poo. I was confused and sad.

I turned back from walking to my room to go and say sorry to my Mum, I walked as quietly as possible.

As I walked into the parlour, I saw the Uncle trying to kiss my Mum I felt a sudden flash of jealousy. After all he had told me that he was wouldn't do it to any other person.

“So people can’t keep to their words?” I asked myself.

I saw my Mum push him away from the kiss. The Uncle looked angry and all of sudden I saw Uncle Tony grab her by the arm forcefully. I saw the look of pain on my Mum. I don’t know if the Uncle saw the look of pain on my Mum’s face or he was just angry with my Mum, for not coming out to see him.

It was like he did not care?

Was this the same Uncle that had been so nice to me earlier?

Why was he being horrible to my Mum?

I heard him say to my Mum.

‘As I said Bose, I am not going home today without cuming.’ His voice did not sound kind to my ears.

‘Now get on your knees and look after this.’ I heard the Uncle say.

‘Tessy has been very accommodating, you have taught her well.’

I felt some kind of strange pride at those words, the Uncle thought my Mum was a good mother and I was being a good daughter for her. Maybe once she heard that she would stop beating me.

‘Like Mother like daughter.’

I heard my mother sobbing, ‘Tony I am tired, please can we do it another day?’

I heard my Mum beg the Uncle.

I did not understand what they were talking about, so I decided to tip toe back to the wall in the hallway. Where I could see them and hear them; but my mom, if she looked back, would not be able to see me.

‘Do you want me to call Tessy?’ The Uncle asked my Mum.

‘Please Tony, I beg you please leave her alone she is a child.’

‘I will do what you want just please leave her alone.’ I heard my Mum beg Uncle Tony.

The Uncle then said, ‘I saw that other man leave your house not so long ago. How come he can have you and I can’t.’

‘Now get here and look after this, if you misbehave. I don’t need to tell you what will happen.’

I was confused as to what the Uncle was talking about.

What did he need looking after?

‘Because you were being selfish and not living up to your side of the agreement that you made to me earlier. We will do our business here in the living room that will show you, not to deny me what you promised and raised my expectations for. You B!tch.’

I saw my Mother look back, to see if I was near. I shrank back into the wall so that she would not see me. I wanted to see what business they were going to do.

Was Uncle a seller of sweets? Maybe my Mum could buy some off him and start a sweet business at home I thought. Then the Uncle that made her cry would not come back.

That wasn’t good he had called her B!tch instead of Bose. I felt sorry for my Mum at that moment.

I decided to move a bit so that I could see what business the Uncle wanted to give my Mother.

I saw him pull out his wee wee and put it in my Mum’s mouth.

I was shocked.

Why was my Mum having the man’s wee wee in her mouth.

I remembered the other uncle who made her poo herself he had a snake in his trousers, at least Uncle Tony did not have one.

I watched in wonder and a strange kind of feeling of not liking what the uncle was doing, washed over me.

He pulled his wee wee out from my Mum’s and ‘Jesus’ a snake had appeared.

It was huge, where had it come from?

Was that what the Uncle had wanted to show me earlier when he put his hand in his trousers?

He took the snake and slapped my Mum’s face with it.

The snake was nodding up and down, as he shoved it again into my Mum’s mouth.

I covered my mouth in shock, how could that thing fit into my Mum’s mouth?

Jesus, I whispered to myself.

He pulled her hair back, so that her face was looking up at him.

‘SVck it well you B!tch.’

This time he slapped her face with his hand, I was angry.

Why was the Uncle doing this.

My Mum was crying I could see tears running down her face.

‘Tessy is so much more accommodating than you Bose.’ I heard him say.

What did that mean I thought to myself?

Please stop hurting my Mum, I prayed silently in the corner I was hiding.

He pulled the snake out of my Mum’s mouth and pushed her onto the floor.

‘I think I should treat you just like the ashawo you are and take you here on the floor.’

‘Please Tony,’ my Mother begged, ‘Let us go to my room.’

He pushed her harder onto the floor and ripped off the dress she was wearing. She only had her pants on and she was not wearing a bra.

‘I know you like it rough Bose, you will scream for me well well, tonight as I Bleep you hard.’

‘You will scream and tell me how much you want me baby, while I am Fvcking you and I am thinking that it is Tessy I am FVcking instead of your loose ass.’

I heard my Mum sob as the Uncle ripped her pants off and put the long thing between his waist inside my Mum.

I did not know what the Uncle was talking about, but it made me feel nice that the Uncle wanted to think of me.

I don’t know how it happened I must have moved or gasped, but the next thing I knew I saw the Uncle look in my direction as her pulled his snake out of my mum and blew me a kiss.

It was long, very black, with veins all over it, and I wondered what kind of creature I was staring at.

I suddenly felt something tickle me between my legs. What was I feeling?

Teespice:
quick question,

I understand this story quite alright but do I have to read the river as a stand off novel or as a prequel to the auction.

I asked because going through a particular post you said that both stories are interwoven kinda. certain things that happened in the river is the reason why the auction came to be.

correct me of I am wrong.

ps- your sense of imagination is out of this world.

Teespice you do not need to read the River. The River is stand alone.

Thank you for reading and commenting.

Chapter 21

John, the pathologist, Devine and Commander James.

She hadn’t seen the Commander in ages, this must be serious, she thought.

She did a mental double take, there was also someone else in the room. He was quiet and was watching the drama that was about to unfold with keen interest, for once he was not glaring.

She looked towards her handler confused.

‘What is going on here?’ Eliora asked, as she looked at Ken Parker her handler.

‘Please take a seat Eliora.’ Ken said.

He looked away from her and turned to Commander James.

Commander James had always been one of her keenest supporters, his demeanour was not as friendly as it usually was, it was off.
John and Devine were also looking at her in a very strange way.

What was going on?

She did not need more shocks, she had received enough in the last 24 hours to last her a lifetime.

Meanwhile, the boy for once was all eyes and ears, there was rapt attention on his face; looking at him one would have thought he was about to learn how Father Christmas got through chimneys. Although, she was very sure he had lost all illusions about the magic of Father Christmas a long time ago.

She took a seat, the four men had dotted themselves around the table in a semi-circle, the last chair had been left for her.

It was interrogating techniques 101; that alone signalled to Eliora that something was amiss.

Well, the fact that the boy had also joined the semi-circle made it a very strange tableau, she thought wryly.

Eliora turned her face and attention to the Commander.

‘So is anyone going to tell me what is going on here?’ Eliora asked, with an arched eyebrow.

‘Eliora, was there any reason why you asked John to widen the parameters on the DNA search for Child Peter?’ Devine asked her.

‘No Sir, I just thought that with the body we found at Sheerness and the similarities between the murders, I thought we might have a connection.’ She responded.

‘I know I did ask John to tap into any database he had access to and to also run a mitochondrial test.’
‘He did tap into the ones he had access to?’ she asked, as she looked over at John. The obvious emphasis on ‘the ones’ was not lost on anyone in the room.

John’s face went red, that answered her question and made her look at him with interest.

How had he accessed those databases he had no rights accessing? She left that question for another day, after she found out why she had been hauled in front of the Met inquisition committee.

‘Eliora, do you have any children?’ Commander James asked.

‘Excuse me?’

‘What?’ Eliora responded.

The question was very off centre, very similar to the techniques she had used she to question people.

‘Do you have any children?’ He repeated the question.

‘I don’t have children Sir.’

‘My first shot at motherhood was snatched away from me by that explosion.’ Eliora said.

‘Are you sure?’ The Commander asked again.

Eliora was now getting p!ssed off. What was going on?

She decided to calm down, the fact that the boy was here told her this was no ordinary meeting.
Something was amiss.

‘Sure about what Sir’? She asked.

The questioning was riling her, she could go straight to the source of the questions, but she never invaded people’s thoughts if she did not have to.

Sometimes knowing what people thought about you wasn’t all what is was cracked up to be. It could be a huge source of disappointment.

She took a deep breath.

‘Sir, do you mind telling me what is going on?’ Eliora said as she looked at the men in the room.

John chimed in ‘The DNA results you requested came back with a hit.’ he said.

‘I widened the parameters as you said and I looked at mitochondria DNA.’ John continued.

‘That was a stroke, of genius. I don’t know why we never thought about it before.’ He said, as he stared at Devine.

The accusation obvious, Devine had been found wanting in his handling of the cold case.

John turned his face back towards Eliora, ‘according to the lab results we have found the Mother of Child Peter.’ He looked at her as he dropped the bombshell.

‘It was a 95% match.’ He said, the excitement in his voice obvious for all to see.

Her eyes moved slightly to the sixth person in the room, there was real surprise on his face.

‘So why are you here questioning me?’ Eliora asked. ‘Shouldn’t you be questioning the owner of the dna?’

‘We are.’ said Commander James.

The room went silent.

Eliora stared at the Commander, he couldn’t not stare back as the black obsidian eyes stared at him.

Eliora was silent.

‘Eliora how old is your son?’ Devine asked the question.

Eliora stared at him vacantly.

Son?

‘I don’t have a son. I had a miscarriage and I did not ask for the sex of my child.’ She turned to Commander James, as she delivered the sentence.

He couldn’t return her gaze, he looked away.

The three men in the room looked at one another, real confusion was on their faces.

Eliora asked, ‘I still don’t understand what is going on?’

‘The cold case we call Child Peter, the results have come back.’ John said.
‘We got a hit,’ John stared at her.

‘I matched the results back to a sealed file.’

‘That sealed file belongs to you Eliora.’

What databases had this guy accessed Eliora thought as she stared at John.

‘Eliora, the DNA test results came back to you, can you explain.’

Eliora looked at him blankly, but she could tell he was serious.

‘I don’t have kids John, you must be mistaken or the DNA sample has been compromised.’

She turned her eye to the boy standing behind the Commander, had he been up to mischief?

‘I can prove that I don’t have a son. Check my personnel file. Plus child Peter’s age could not be accurately dated but we made him between five and six right?’

‘I was in Manchester and London at the time, someone would have noticed that I was pregnant.’

She could tell a light bulb was going off in Commander James head.

‘What was the result of the sample?’ she asked.

‘It was a 95% probability.’ John replied.

‘Interesting,’ Eliora murmured.

‘Well we will have to do the test again, somewhere along the line some kind of contamination must have taken place.’
‘That can be the only feasible answer, John.’ Eliora said, as relief washed over her temporarily.

There was no way a woman could be pregnant for 40 weeks have a child and not know. Even in the realm of her strangeness that would be hard to pull off.

Eliora’s problem solving skills and leadership skills came to the fore; this was nothing more than a mistake.

She noticed Commander James relax his stance a bit.

She turned to John, ‘we need to take another sample, actually take two, so that we don’t have any more confusion.’

‘I don’t have a son, I don’t what you guys are trying to do.’ She said vehemently.

‘Whoa Dee please don’t jump to conclusions,’ Commander James said.

‘No one is after you for anything Dee’, the softness he placed on her name not lost on her.

‘I am sure re-running the samples will settle the confusion.’ The Commander said.

Three samples were taken from her.

John bagged them in front of everyone and got another police officer to come and take them to the lab for testing.

‘Please can you ask them to put a rush on it.’ John told the police officer as he walked out of the door.

Sometime later an email came into John’s inbox.

John stared at the results in front of him he could not understand the results he had just received.

The DNA results had come back and they were not what he expected.

Chapter 20

Eliora’s handler, the person on the phone who had called her to notify her of the file breach was based in Vauxhall in south east London.

When she had assumed her new identity they had both thought that she would never need to come in. Gary Foster who had put a hit on her head was in prison serving three life sentences. But as a precaution they had both agreed on her having a second phone just in case.

What could happen in a backwater town like Sheerness, they had thought.

She had never had the need to use it until now and in the space of 24 hours she had used it twice.

She sent a text message from her second phone ‘coming in, on my way now, should be there in two hours.’

Thinking about the attempt on her life and the subsequent change of identity she wondered what had actually drawn her to her new name. She had been looking for something different, that didn’t sound so ethnic.

In her mind the new name sounded mysterious and very English.

Now she wondered if she hadn't unconsciously chosen the name as it reflected what she had been seeking at that point in her life.
Light, hope and guidance.

She had found it hard to hope for anything after the loss she had suffered.

Was it an unconscious thing, or had it been fate that drew her to that name.

She had gone from Dutotimi Willioms to Eliora Lucas.

The two names couldn’t be more different, she sighed.

Eliora decided to take the train, she was in no state to drive. She drove to the station and left her car in the car park and set off on the train. She had too much on her mind and she did not want to be distracted by driving and not able to concentrate properly. She was still getting over her meeting with Margaret the night before.

She was still in shock; three babies, she had two brothers out there somewhere.
Where were they?

What had happened to them?

How had they fared with their adoptive parents?

When she had left Margaret she was taking a nap; all the talking had worn her out. She decided that she was going to go back and talk to her. She had a lot more questions to ask her.

I hope she will be lucid Eliora thought to herself.

She then remembered Margaret had mentioned journals. Her Mother’s journals were in the loft. How come she had never known they were there?

She them berated herself, she had just moved into the cottage. Margaret had lived there on her own for years. Eliora hadn’t wanted to move into the place. But Margaret had insisted she should move in, that it was going to be hers anyway once she was gone. She was still unpacking boxes so she had not had the chance to explore unseen places in the house.

Three of them, the number kept on going round and round in her head.

She still could not get over the shock. How come she had never known?

The story of her birth did not help answer the questions she had; instead it scared the sh!t out of her. For Margaret to be agitated up till now with whatever she had experienced that day, bore testament to the fact that it must have been very harrowing.

What had her mother encountered in that strange place she had gone to?

It was amazing to know that she was a mixed race person noone looking at her would not even believe it.

Her hair for instance; she had the coarsest hair known to any black woman, as much as she tried to embrace the natural movement the combs always thought otherwise. The hair was so thick she went through afro combs like tissues.

Her Mother had been blond? Blond.

The rush of information she was trying to process made her exhausted and light headed.

Nigeria that had been a surprise. She had a connection to Nigeria. It pleased her to know that, at least she could tell people that when they asked her about her heritage.

When people had asked her before she had said she did not know. People gave her strange looks, but one look from her made a lot of people stop asking questions pronto.

What had her Mother encountered in that place as she tried to remember the name of the place Margaret had mentioned? Yes, Ile-Ife, she would google it later.

The story Margaret had told her was just too scary and creepy not to be true.

It helped answer some of the questions she had. She had noticed she had certain strange abilities. she had not told anyone, but Danny had suspected but he had not come out directly to ask her point blank about certain things.

He had told her a few times he would not like to be questioned by her if he was a criminal.

Ceratin pivotal moments of her life came back in sharp focus. The explosion; it had not been luck or coincidence that had flipped the bath over and saved her. She would never forget what she saw that night, whenever she thought about that night the strange birthmark she had on her thigh started itching her.

She had tried to convince herself that it was the smoke, which had made her see things.

She had lost Danny and their unborn child that night, it had saved her, but not without devastating loss on Eliora’s part.

She sighed deeply as she watched the English countryside go by.

She googled her birth name. She could not rely totally on google as the only real thing it was good for was stuff in English. The results came back.

‘Stay with me’ it said.

Eliora thought back to what Margaret had told her about her mother, she had kept on saying the word. It was nice to know that her name had a meaning. She had always wondered how an orphan like her could have such an ethnic name. she had shortened it to Dee by time she got to secondary school.

That was another mystery how had she afforded to stay in Cobham Hall. Better yet how had Margaret an ex nun paid for her school fee’s? She had also been a boarder at one of the most prestigious girls’ school in Kent. Cobham Hall prided itself in producing well rounded self-sufficient girls. Emma Roberts had loved it so much after filming wild child, that the school had been inundated with queries.

There was an incident at the school that always stuck with her.

There had been a girl called Julie King, she had bullied Durotimi mercilessly, it had gone beyond light bullying it had been full of malice and murderous intent.
Rumour had it that up to 5 girls had left the school due to the bullying Julie had piled on them. One girl had attempted suicide as a result. Her father was the head of the board of school governors and her mother the head of the PTA at the time. So she had felt invincible.
As far as she was concerned she was the most important girl in the school and she took meanness to murderous heights.

The girls in her dorm, were in thrall of Julie and did everything she said to them without thinking. They all wanted to be in her good books so that they would be invited to her parties during the school holidays.

Durotimi never got invited, which was no surprise.

They called Durotimi ‘Midnight’ as they said they could never see her or find her at night time. Or they made out that they could not see her.

Julie decided to take the bullying she was heaping on Durotimi to new heights and played a horrific prank on her.

Karma they say is a b!tch and she certainly ain’t no good looking boy.

Something happened to Julie; the details were shrouded in mystery, all she knew was that she had a mental breakdown or some kind of something and she never came back to the school. She kept on saying to anyone who would listen to her that Durotimi was a witch, and was haunting her.

The headmistress had dismissed the whole Julie breakdown as the result of a guilty conscience and was relieved that she had finally been able to get rid of the horrific bully from the school.

Durotimi on the other hand had thought otherwise. Even then there were some strange things happening in her life.

Duro got to Victoria and took the tube to Vauxhall and her handler met her at reception and ushered her into an office.

There were three other men in the room waiting for her.

Well, Sammyhoe was a science student before he wrote very interesting stories. In fact, science students are known for their logic and ability to make the thing look factual. So far you have empathy you can write a good story.

Well said Divepen1
