so we would have a girl or a boy
4/8 + 4/8 = 1
possible outcome (1 ) decide by the total outcome( =1/8

Hi guys! I want you guys to help me with a li2 probability question. The question goes thus: if we are to choose two person from 4 boys nd 5 girls. What is the probability of choosing a girl?

You're mixing it up.if you're to choose without replacement both will reduce,ur numerator n denominator,that's why we have the 4/8.

don't get me wrong. I'm nt disputing that d denominator won't reduce. My point is that the second person to be selected could either be a boy or a girl. Hence, the possible out come = 1 while d total outcome = 8 nd dat will result to 1/8 instead of ur own 4/8.

well, i can't ascertain how correct I am. but, I think your answer could only be correct on the condition that 'IF 2 GIRLS ARE TO BE SELECTED' i.e the first girl=5/9 x the second girl = 4/8 nd that will give us 5/18 OR the condition that 'A BOY ND A GIRL ARE TO BE SELECTED' which will also result to 5/18

Possible outcome= [2,6 3,5 4,4 5,3 6,2]=5
pr of obtaining a total of 8= 5/36

2. Girls=5
boys=4
total outcome=9
NB. There is a condition that a girl must be chosen therefore, pr [of choosing a girl]= number of girls /total outcome= 5/9.
Now, we have 4 girls nd 4 boys left.
The new total outcome=8
pr of choosing d 2nd person=1/8.
Total pr=5/9*1/8= 5/72.
