Yea cause having one language and dominant religion can never be the reason for a country's development
Am not saying it's the main reason. It solves part of the society problem and in another way creates problems for multilingual countries

Why do you think every political thread must one way or another refer to Igbos?

Don't turn this thread into one of your biafra/afonja threads...
The person I quoted understood my point because we were both making references to many places.
Go around the thread and read my responses to the comment. If the mention of Biafra trigger emotions in you..you can find your way out of the thread

As a side note, most developed or high income stable nations have these trajectory fundamentals

1. A dominant ethnic group
2. A dominant language
3. A dominant religion
4. A dominant culfure
5. A dominant "ethos".

That means my observation was correct. But Nigeria proved this parameters wrong once during the regional system

Not exactly, I am itsekiri. Our language is similar to Ilaje and Ijebu dialects. Having said that, I lived and schooled in various parts of Yoruba land, so I have friends from various dialects. I once had an Ondo girlfriend, when she spoke her Yoruba dialect, I could not understand a word.
Hmm interesting. So you mean they were entirely different languages at a time?

Yes culture is the key, many people take pride in culture. To solve this the big ethnic group should be willing to adopt one tradition each from the smaller minorities

This will make the minorities not to fill that there are being swallowed or that their culture will die off. It will get a bond of trust.
Someone was also suggesting the minorities copy the culture of the majority to fit in undecided

Kinematics:
Development is beyond language. The culture of the people matters a lot. Most developed countries have almost same culture. Once the way of life is similar, development or recession moves faster.

Being monolingual has a role to play, but not as influential as the culture of the people. Same culture, same goals, same values are more important for development.

If the culture is good then development comes faster. Japan is a good example. The advancement in the Japanese society is beyond language, but the way of life(Culture) of the people.

In Africa especially. Until we change our way of life and do away with some archaic belief, we shall remain underdeveloped.
If we like let the whole naija or Africa speak one language, as long as we still have our beliefs and way of life we shall remain the way we are.
Our beliefs and way of life? Am not understanding that part

But Somalia is almost a monoethnic country (over 85% are Somalis) and they are permanently at war. The irony is the war is between different Somali factions.

StaffofOrayan:
I don't believe culture, religion or language has much to do with growth and development.

Look at organizations that cut across the globe like FIFA or the UN or the International Space Station or even multi national companies, the day their goals differ is the day it all starts to crumble.

I think the most important thing is having a common goal, or having any type of goal at all.
Nigerian politicians are notorious for having no plans or ideology, likewise their party, they have zero coherent policies, they cross carpet when their political fortunes are dwindling.

If all it took to develop was a common language and culture then states and regions should show a higher level of development,

For any country to develop, the citizens have to understand local politics, it's even more important to development than national politics,
Parties have to be ideological and for that to happen, THE PEOPLE need to wake up vote for ideology. Except a good leader can be prayed into existence.

No matter how small an entity is, it can still be split even smaller, that said, our goals in Nigeria seems to be VERY different, especially if you compare the north and south.

And why is that common goal working for a monoethnic Europe but not for a multiethnic Africa?

Is America paradise? Russia has always had our back. Its propaganda that made Nigeria to affiliate with the US when it obvious we aren't benefiting so much. As far as I am concerned, America is doing us less. Yes, we need that kind of signal to the US. In fact it's coming at the right time that we can see that South Africa is lesser than Nigeria. The western world will only try to make South Africa superior. And when the real game starts, be sure that Britain is right behind Nigeria like Olumo rock and all EU will follow the terrain. Now that Russia is behind us, we just need to manage Islamic episodes very well so that Russian partners in the middle east will not be angered. That's all. Can you imagine that weak Jonathan swallowed all to the extend of smuggling in raw cash to South Africa just because he wants favor from the US. America blocked all ways to buy weapons but wants us to follow their rules. Nonsense! That's how they frustrated Iran to the stage those ones started making nuclear weapons.

Is it America that keeps taking millions of naira for Visa, yet denying Nigerians are who to depend on? The US Visa system is the poorest. Cant they follow the way Britain and Canada are doing it. Yet they will start saying we are problems. They are their own problems. Just imagine. 1 min visa interview. Is that normal? And that's the biased way the country does everything she believes is right. No one can correct her. No one. But they always learn from affiliations like this. US is about losing Nigeria. I just pray someone as stubborn as PMB succeeds him. Osinbajo looks stubborn too. He has the gut if he has the power. Not people who will go lick US a.s.s.

It's obvious you didn't understand what am saying..your opinion though

Not exactly correct. There was nothing like Yoruba language pre colonialisation. There was Oyo, ijebu, Ijesha, egun, etc languages. It was Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowder that created the standard Yoruba language in the 1850s, from Oyo and Ibadan dialects, in order to translate the Bible into a universal (yoruba ) language. It would have been impractical to translate the English Bible to the tens of languages in the Oyo kingdom at that time.

Most people known as Yoruba today were ethnic groups contained in the old Oyo empire.
If those languages were not mutually intelligible it wouldn't have been possible
