Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, has promised to make a remarkable difference if he is re-elected in the forthcoming general election. In 2015, Buhari wooed voters with his promises to lift the nation’s troubled economy, end decades of corruption and win the war against Boko Haram. But, the drumbeat changed for the President who declared his intention to contest for a second term in the 2019 presidential election earlier in the year. However, the President has urged Nigerians to give him a second chance to do better and make a difference while addressing Nigerians living in theUnited States of America on Friday. “I will leave some difference in that office,” the President said. Buhari further stated that one of the major issues facing Nigeria isthe elites who are looting the country’s funds and he recalled how he locked some of them up during his service as the head of state.“In 1983, military officers gathered, and made me Head of State. I packed the politicians into jail, told them they were guilty until they could prove their innocence,” Buhari said. “We seized what they had looted, but after I myself was put in detention, the politicians were given back what they had looted. How many elite complained about that?” he added. The President stated that when he was chairman of the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF), he constructed roads from Lagos to Abuja, to Onitsha, to Port Harcourt. Since then, the roads were not done, between 1999 and2015, “yet the elite did not say a word,” “I was called Baba Go Slow. Those who were going fast, where did they get to?” he added. He, therefore, stated that his loyalty is with the ordinary people of Nigeria who had always supported him during the time he contested and didn’t win and not with the elite who always sing foul of him.“Three times I contested elections; three times I went to court after the elections were rigged against me. No justice, but I said ‘God dey.’“It was mainly the ordinary people that stood by me. That is why I am always conscious of them. They are my constituency. Even pregnant women on the queue would fall into labour, go to have their babies, and still come back to vote for me. I will keep doing my best for the country.” He also urged Nigerians in the diaspora to return home and invest in the country. http://guardian.ng/news/i-will-do-better-in-my-second-term-buhari/ |

The Borno State commissioner of police, Damian Chukwu, has suspended the state’s Central Motor Traffic Division (CMTD) until investigations into allegations of extortion levelled against its operatives by motorcycle riders in the state are concluded. The Keke-NAPEP operators have also accused the local government authorities in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council of collecting “illegal levies” even without providing any park. PREMIUM TIMES earlier on Monday reported how Maiduguri, the state capital, was rocked by protests by the riders over alleged police maltreatment. Hundreds of commercial tricycle riders barricaded all major routes and highways to register their displeasure. Despite the deployment of soldiers and the use of teargas on the riders by the police, the protest, which had stagnated movement in most part of the city, went on for hours. PREMIUM TIMES gathered that the protesters only decided to move their vehicles off the roadsfollowing the intervention of the Borno State government. Speaking on the development, Mr Chukwu said though things have been put under control, the police had gone extra steps to launch an investigation into the allegations levelled against CMTD. He also said the unit would cease functioning until the investigations are concluded.“In the morning hours of today, different groups of tricycle operators mobilised themselves and blocked some roundabouts within Maiduguri Metropolis, claiming illegal collection of levies by local government authorities without provision of motorparks,” the official said.“The protesters also alleged harassment and extortion by security personnel especially theCentral Motor Traffic Division, Maiduguri. “The Borno State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice and I promptly intervened and the situation was brought under control. No loss of life or injury sustained; and no damage to property recorded. Normalcy has returned with free flow of vehicular traffic and persons. “In the meantime, I have disbanded the Central Motor Traffic Division pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation by the State,” he added. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/278327-borno-police-suspend-traffic-division-over-commercial-riders-protest.html?_e_pi_=7%2CPAGE_ID10%2C6116880943

[quote author=zenmaster post=61281840]FIVE reasons why Yoruba men marry Igbo ladies: 1. Igbo women are home builders It would be nice for us not to be sentimental when considering this issue. Igbo women are extremely dedicated in marriage. Now there would always be a few stray ones like we have in other tribes too; but when it comes to the effort they put into marriages, those ladies are quite commendable. Marriage means a great deal to them and divorce is a word they do not really entertain. Yoruba men go for them because they see the prospects in them. READ ALSO: 10 popular street foods Nigerians cannot do without eating 2. They are excellent cooks There are a number of leaves and vegetables that are being made into soups by the Igbo ladies. Most of them know how to cook and would feed a man until he cannot eat any longer. Yoruba men know that they would taste different types of vegetables when they are married to Igbo ladies. we all know the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. 3. Love knows no tribe Some Yoruba men end up marrying Igbo ladies not because they had it planned out but because love happened. Love knows no tribe. At this point, they have no control over the person their hearts choose. Not giving in to love may subject them to a lifetime of unhappiness at the long run. Moreover, they do not marry these ladies by force, there is usually a strong mutual consent by the parties involved as it is essential for them to work as a unit in order to gain the support of their family members. 4. They are accommodating Igbo people love having a full house; it is not strange finding uncles, aunties, nephews, cousins and distant relations spending holiday with them. Although they chat a lot, they enjoy good company. There are bad eggs among them too who have little or no tolerance for people. Yoruba men know that marrying Igbo ladies who are well cultured and behaved will help them keep their family members together. Over time, the family members may start to see the good in them and love them too. READ ALSO: 7 irritating lies Nigerian girls would always tell 5. They belong to one Nigeria Sometimes, men do not pay attention to tribal issues and condescending statements that may bring a tribe down. As far as they are concerned, the Igbo ladies are Nigerians like them too. For this reason, a Yoruba man could decide to choose his life partner from that tribe and live with her for the rest of his life. After all, marrying outside one's tribe is not an offence that is punishable under law. As a matter of fact, it promotes cultural integration and helps the people of the country to bond better. source https://www.naij.com/892789-5-amazing-ways-hear-voice-of-god-wants-speak.html#892789 OP made one major mistake; they belong to the illegal Biafra |

The human body is incredibly resilient. When you donate a pint of blood, you lose about 3.5 trillion red blood cells, but your body quickly replaces them. You can even lose large chunks of vital organs and live. For example, people can live relatively normal lives with just half a brain). Other organs can be removed in their entirety without having too much impact on your life. Here are some of the "non-vital organs". Spleen This organ sits on the left side of the abdomen, towards the back under the ribs. It is most commonly removed as a result of injury. Because it sits close the ribs, it is vulnerable to abdominal trauma. It is enclosed by a tissue paper-like capsule, which easily tears, allowing blood to leak from the damaged spleen. If not diagnosed and treated, it will result in death. When you look inside the spleen, it has two notable colours. A dark red colour and small pockets of white. These link to the functions. The red is involved in storing and recycling red blood cells, while the white is linked to storage of white cells and platelets. You can comfortably live without a spleen. This is because the liver plays a role in recycling red blood cells and their components. Similarly, other lymphoid tissues in the body help with the immune function of the spleen. Stomach The stomach performs four main functions: mechanical digestion by contracting to smash up food, chemical digestion by releasing acid to help chemically break up food, and then absorption and secretion. The stomach is sometimes surgically removed as a result of cancer or trauma. In 2012, a British woman had to have her stomach removed after ingesting a cocktail that contained liquid nitrogen. When the stomach is removed, surgeons attach the oesophagus (gullet) directly to the small intestines. With a good recovery, people can eat a normal diet alongside vitamin supplements. Reproductive organs The primary reproductive organs in the male and female are the testes and ovaries, respectively. These structures are paired and people can still have children with only one functioning. The removal of one or both are usually the result of cancer, or in males, trauma, often as a result of violence, sports or road traffic accidents. In females, the uterus (womb) may also be removed. This procedure (hysterectomy) stops women from having children and also halts the menstrual cycle in pre-menopausal women. Research suggests that women who have their ovaries removed do not have a reduced life expectancy. Interestingly, in some male populations, removal of both testicles may lead to an increase in life expectancy. Colon The colon (or large intestine) is a tube that is about six-feet in length and has four named parts: ascending, transverse, descending and sigmoid. The primary functions are to resorb water and prepare faeces by compacting it together. The presence of cancer or other diseases can result in the need to remove some or all of the colon. Most people recover well after this surgery, although they notice a change in bowel habits. A diet of soft foods is initially recommended to aid the healing process. Gallbladder The gallbladder sits under the liver on the upper-right side of the abdomen, just under the ribs. It stores something called bile. Bile is constantly produced by the liver to help break down fats, but when not needed in digestion, it is stored in the gallbladder. When the intestines detect fats, a hormone is released causing the gallbladder to contract, forcing bile into the intestines to help digest fat. However, excess cholesterol in bile can form gallstones, which can block the tiny pipes that move bile around. When this happens, people may need their gallbladder removed. The surgery is known as (cholecystectomy. Every year, about 70,000 people have this procedure in the UK. Many people have gallstones that don't cause any symptoms, others are not so fortunate. In 2015, an Indian woman had 12,000 gallstones removed – a world record. Appendix The appendix is a small blind-ended worm-like structure at the junction of the large and the small bowel. Initially thought to be vestigial, it is now believed to be involved in being a "safe-house" for the good bacteria of the bowel, enabling them to repopulate when needed. Due to the blind-ended nature of the appendix, when intestinal contents enter it, it can be difficult for them to escape and so it becomes inflamed. This is called appendicitis. In severe cases, the appendix needs to be surgically removed. A word of warning though: just because you've had your appendix out, doesn't mean it can't come back and cause you pain again. There are some cases where the stump of the appendix might not be fully removed, and this can become inflamed again, causing "stumpitis". People who have had their appendix removed notice no difference to their life. Kidneys Most people have two kidneys, but you can survive with just one – or even none (with the aid of dialysis). The role of the kidneys is to filter the blood to maintain water and electrolyte balance, as well as the acid-base balance. It does this by acting like a sieve, using a variety of processes to hold onto the useful things, such as proteins, cells and nutrients that the body needs. More importantly, it gets rid of many things we don't need, letting them pass through the sieve to leave the kidneys as urine. There are many reasons people have to have a kidney – or both kidneys – removed: inherited conditions, damage from drugs and alcohol, or even infection. If a person has both kidneys fail, they are placed onto dialysis. This comes in two forms: haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. The first uses a machine containing dextrose solution to clean the blood, the other uses a special catheter inserted into the abdomen to allow dextrose solution to be passed in and out manually. Both methods draw waste out of the body. If a person is placed on dialysis, their life expectancy depends on many things, including the type of dialysis, sex, other diseases the person may have and their age. Recent research has shown someone placed on dialysis at age 20 can expect to live for 16-18 years, whereas someone in their 60s may only live for five years.

The Federal Ministry of Health has told Nigerians to avoid the consumption of monkeys, bush meat and dead animal as doing so could expose one to the risk of Monkey Pox disease. Currently in Bayelsa State, a medical doctor and no fewer than 10 persons have reportedly been quarantined as a result of the virus. The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, gave the advice in a statement by the Director, Media and Public Relations in the ministry, Boade Akinola, on Thursday According to the minister, the disease neither had a cure nor a vaccine, noting, however, that there was no cause for alarm as it was mild. The statement read in part, “He (Adewole) said the virus was mild and there was no known treatment and no preventive vaccines , hence the public should be at alert and avoid crowded places as much as possible. “He advised the public to avoid eating dead animals, bushmeat and particularly bush monkeys.”The minister also revealed that test samples had been sent to the World Health Organisation (laboratory ) in Senegal but the result was still being awaited. He, however, called on Nigerians, who had symptoms of fever, back pain and rashes resembling chicken pox, to report to the hospital. It added, “The symptoms include headache, fever, back pains and in advanced cases, rashes bigger than those caused by chicken pox.” |

Maize farmers in Oyo State on Thursday said they had found solution to the menace of armyworms which had been destroying their farms The Chairman, Maize Growers Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (MAGPAMAN) in the state, Mr Israel Oluwagbemileke, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan. Oluwagbemileke said farmers in the state were spraying juice extracted from Dogoyaro leaves on the crop to kill the pests. He said the treatment had yielded high result, adding, “we boil Dogoyaro leaves, allow it to cool and then spray it on the crop early in the morning or towards evening. “Within few minutes after spraying, the pests will die. They die as soon as the water touches them,” he said. He stressed that the spray should be applied periodically, at least two weeks interval. The chairman said the first application of the juice should take place after two or three weeks of planting to protect the crop from the pest. He, however, said that the juice should be sprayed immediately if the farm is already affected. “After spraying, the leaves become green and the crop begin to germinate well; maize farmers in the state have been using the method.” Oluwagbemileke said that dogoyaro leaves could also be used to preserve grains. “Get the leaves and dry it under a shade and later grind it, put the produce in bag and spread the powder on it. “Arrange the bags one after the other and keep spreading the powder before putting each bag on top. “The good thing is that the grain treated with the powder can stay for a maximum of one year. It cannot affect the quality of the produce,” he said. |
