I
akinvest:
Yesterday was flags off, but no update yet
Price is not usually announced on flag off day. Flag off day is simply a day officially declared for trading to commence, traders can begin to deliver materials to lagos thereafter..
Why it is synonymous with pricing is because full trading commences afterwards and exporters often release price they would pay for materials and local buying agents also often determine the price they will buy from farms and local markets.
There is no official price for cashew, it is not regulated by government unlike it is done in cote d's voice.

Cashew trading has been dramatic here in Ogbomosho especially with pricing. However, we are eagerly waiting for the flagoff tomorrow.

Another things is; hope we are all thinking of replacing those cashew plantations with new ones?
Yes my brother. Price is ridiculously High this season but thankfully the local players have also found the need to control the price urgently and they are working towards it but there are still some saboteurs among them.
Price will definitely be regulated on the flag off day. Really looking forward to it. Let's hope for the best.

GerogeI:
Hello Bro,
I would like to get involved in this years cashew nut season. Hope we can connect, are you based in Lagos?
I have some questions,
1. Why did the Indians stop buying the raw nuts even when production was increasing?
2. Are Nigerians only exporting unprocessed nuts? Is there any processing plant, if one wishes to export processed nuts?
3. How does one store cashew nuts? And how long do you store it, before it loses adequate amount of moisture?
Thanks
The Indians never stopped buying, they are always eager to buy at every point in time.

About 95% of raw cashew nuts is exported from nigeria annually. Only about 5% is processed locally

There are few processing companies in Nigeria.
OLAM is the biggest processor in Nigeria.
Abod success is also a good processor.
There are more processors

Once raw cashew nut is properly sun-dried, it can be kept for 1 year or more
The moisture content should be less than 10 %. Once this is achieved, it can be stored in a warehouse

Just to confirm, the cashew season starts in Feb and ends in May, right? I have never traded in cashew before, however I have researched the cashew business thoroughly so I am looking to trade now. I even have an idea of what kind of ROI I am targeting. How can I get started? Thanks!
Yes sir, the season starts from February to may/june.
But the season is late this year, so full commercial activities should start in march.
The crop is coming out gradually but not yet available in large commercial quantity.

na wa ohhhh, so someone must have 2.7million to be able to trade in cashew.
am very sure this post is not for struggling Nigerians.
You can be in the business without money. You can link buyers and sellers together and get paid on commission basis.

what wrong with you trade locally? you will be able to get a foreign buyer through people you supply locally but its a gradual process.

trade locally also pay alot. exporting agro product has to do with channel of trading if you really want to start selling to the foreign buyers.

but if you want to skip that then wait patiently and trade locally with time you will you will get there.

alternative..if you trade locally with any foreigners? you can as well tell them you have so so produce and you want them to help you connect with the buyer whenever to go back to there country ..i do that and it work for me but the only thing is i hate make a supply and waited long before getting paid and thats the reason i prefer trading locally.
Nice.
