What has this got to do with the poster's request for help to take care of his ailing mother? Nigerians must learn to stop looking for ways to pull his fellow people down. What do you stand to gain by publicly saying this?
I think you need to be checked too! You must also be one of them if you know the poster so well.

When I first saw this post online at Ventures Africa (original source of the article), I also wondered why oil business was common among them!

Is it that Nigeria can't produce billionaires outside oil biz?

Business / Which Is The Most Visited Section On Nairaland? by LOUDmedia(m): 7:56pm On Jul 03, 2013
Of a truth, Nairaland is one website or may I say "forum" many Nigerians home and abroad, and citizens of other nations visit regularly. For some folks, they visit NL than they do for their Fb and twitter accounts. However, my point is, as varied as the sections are on NL (from Politics to Religion to Property, and so on), there are some sections I have never visited in my entire life as a member since 2008. More often than not, each time I launch the NL website, after reading the frontpage threads, I dash straight to the business section cheesy .Well, this is for obvious reasons. I need to get updates on what's happening in the Nigerian business space; feel the pulse of Nigerian biz pple; and of course, see how I can promote my business to NLanders.
If I must rate these sections by my interests and how often I visit them, I would say
1. Business
2. Politics (politics cos the Nigerian political arena is laughable with old news stories recycling itself everyday. For me, they ease tension and good for winding off) cheesy

What about you?

Question: Can a Holding Company be used to transact business?

Answer: YES. Although it is usual that the sole purpose of a ‘holding’ company is the legal ownership of other subsidiary companies, a holding company is not restricted from producing goods and delivering services.

bowlek10: I need registration Number for this international company in Nigeria- Nielson Company

I will be very grateful to received your reply

Your query is somewhat unclear.
How do you mean "registration number"?
Is is that the company has already been registered in Nigeria, and you need the company's RC number? If yes, I think the said company are in the best position to provide you this.
If you intend to register this company newly in Nigeria, that's a different issue.

Business / 3 Simple Ways To Start A Company in Nigeria by LOUDmedia(m): 11:20am On Jun 30, 2013
Want to Start a Company? Brace Yourself!! Recite this! Think. Create. Incorporate!! These seemingly three simple English Language words came alive in me as I lie in my bed recently on a Sunday evening to think of the next growth strategy for my company.

Like a flash, I was inspired by the thoughts of “Think, Create and Incorporate” that filtered through my mind.

THINK!
The world is full of invisible opportunities that only the eyes of the mind can unravel. A successful thinker can be likened to a miner – the deeper you dig, the better – as treasures aren’t found on the surface. Great ideas come when you subscribe to non-worrisome thinking. The most successful companies metamorphosed from a little thought to a large corporation.

Successful entrepreneurs know that ideas aren’t free – they come after many hours (at times, days and months) of brainstorming in order to identify opportunities, solve problems, create market niche, increase market share, or provide a need.

Whatever the reason for engaging in productive thinking, it exposes your mind and makes it receptive to brilliant ideas in its most raw form. The ability to think is not a skill – it’s a responsibility that must be consciously given adequate priority. Truth be told, you are no different from your thought pattern. An entrepreneur is no better than the quality of his or her thoughts. The level of success you command, to a large extent, is traceable to your mindset.

CREATE!
One of the outstanding products of engaging the mind productively is the ability to be creative and innovative. This power lies within the confines of every human being, but usually untapped. Creating winning businesses out of seemingly simple ideas is the joy of smart entrepreneurs. However, ideas that fly do not come as cheap as it sounds – they are worked at, not cried for. You must be ready to take absolute responsibility.

Even Bible history has it that in the beginning, God “created”. Prior to creation, however, the heaven and earth was without form and there was a “moving” (a thinking activity) on the face of the waters. The rest they say is history.

THINK & CREATE!
It’s high time we stopped whining about the vicissitudes of unemployment that stares at us in the face. It’s high time we put a stop to whatever unseen force that limits our capacity to be highflyers. It’s high time we sat down to think and churn out innovative ideas that is capable of alleviating the problems of the society which we live in. It’s high time we began to churn out business ideas aimed at improving on existing systems or norms.

Due to their interdependent nature, the ability to create enduring legacies rests on the courage to sit down and think. Give yourself to positive thinking.

INCORPORATE!
Finally, after a careful study of the market for your proposed business venture, give your idea a life by incorporating it into an appropriate business structure registered under the laws guiding company formation in your country.

Now, you have set for yourself a foundation for a truly successful company. See you at the top!

Cheers!

mikedanza: Before you place any blame on CAC kindly understand the rules governing reservation of name.
1. To reserve a name does not imply its yours indefinitely
2. It expires automatically after 30 days....unless....

60 days and not 30 days. However, you are not expected to wait till few days b4 expiration before you start filing registration.

ugees: You have to speak to a lawyer. only they can register a company for you. it should be less than 100k though, depending on the share size you want to get.

It's a wrong notion to think it's only lawyers that can file company registrations at the CAC.
CAC recognises only parties (lawyers, chartered accountants and chartered secretaries) accredited by them.
Also, firms that constitute accredited parties can also engage in registration services.

Yes, there are professionals who help clients get a brandable name for their businesses. Check my profile/signature for website details.

ITbomb: what is the maximum value of contract I can get with a registered enterprise in Nigeria compared with Limited Liability Company

There isn't anywhere where it's stated that you can use your biz name registration/limited liability coy to get a certain value of contracts. They are just biz structures which any1 considering must take into considering quite a number of factors before opting for.
However, some industry-related bizs and financial institutions won't just reckon with bizs owned by a sole proprietor for obvious reasons. Nonetheless, you can do biz worth millions of Naira with just your biz name.

I think you need to be more specific in your nature of biz so that I can offer better advice.

I am not a fan of any club home and abroad, but I can't but spot how Man Utd players took turns to lift the

What do you think? May be na water pass Uncle Yobo's joy.

Vicjustice:    For those of you who often wonder and ask "How Invitation Letter Should Look Like" I've decided to create this thread with some (self composed) samples of Letters Of Invitation.
Know that there is no standard composition or grammars required, but yet, the letter must include the basic guidelines essential to sufficiently Identify, Introduce, Describe, Persuade and Guarantee on both parties.

Thanks for this post. It's indeed helpful. I have a question: Can a Sole Proprietorship company be used to write a letter of invitation inviting someone into Nigeria from abroad? Or must it be a Limited Liability Company?

omogidi234: No be small thing oh! So each time one wants to post or reply, the rules must show up.

@ Server123, the penalty is 5, 000 Naira every month after the expiration of the 6 months grace period.

I was at the FIRS office today, and I still heard a Tax official telling someone who wanted to get his TIN Number to pay N10,000 penalty because he's just registering for TIN when his biz name cert read May 2012.
Business / Re: Company Registration: Questions People Ask & Answers! by LOUDmedia(m): 8:06pm On May 10, 2013
server123:

The accountant that I gave the job to said FIRS said I must pay N10,000 for penalty or I'll need to bribe workers there with N3,000 before that TIN will be released to me though it has been issued which I declined as I will prefer changing the name with the money and freshly getting a TIN.

Anyway!I'm not sure if it is the accountant that is just saying his own

Seriously, if you fail to apply for TIN within the specified duration (for new companies), you'll pay N10,000 as penalty. As for the bribe, it's unwise to do this, as it may thereafter be a problem.

Ok. Since it's only September last year, then you do not need any evidence of payment of Annual Returns.

As for the change of name, 5k.

server123:

Can a business name that has been registered with CAC be changed?

E.g Anizkay Infotech GlobalBiz MultiConcepts be changed to Anizkay Infotech MultiConcepts

Is there any penalty fee to pay at FIRS office if you go to their office after 6 months of registering your enterprise name with CAC to collect your TIN?

Yes, a business name CAN be changed! That's a post-incorporation service called "Change of Business Name". However, to change your business name, you must show evidence of filing of your company's Annual Returns to-date.

To answer your second question. Yes, there's a penalty to pay if you go to the FIRS after 6 months of registering your enterprise.

We wish to state categorically that we do accept and often carry on registration of companies for non-nigerians with full ownership/rights.

A pastor whose two storey building the Dana airplane crashed into in the June 3 air-mishap was reported to have put the Opebi office of Dana under lock and key.

The aggrieved man who was said to have arrived Dana office at about 5:30am on Wednesday 8th May, 2013 alledged the non-payment of compensation by Dana management for his building which turned into rubbles after the deadly crash.

Sunday, June 3 would for a long time remain in the memory of Nigerians especially victims of Flight 9J 992 which crashed in Lagos.
