Business / Re: How To Confirm Registeration With CAC by LOUDmedia(m): 12:07pm On Apr 14, 2013
Confirming the validity of your registration can be done in 2 ways:
1. Submit a new name search in the exact name as it appears on your certificate. If indeed your company name was registered, CAC will deny the new name submission and quote that that same name exist on their database with the reference or incorporation number.
2. Go to the nearest CAC to request a certified true copy of the exact documents of the registered company. You are expected to have fulfilled an up-to-date payment of annual returns to do this. This is a more guaranteed option.

Business / Re: How To Get A Company Tax Clearance Certificate In Nigeria by LOUDmedia(m): 7:10am On Apr 10, 2013
Topdogs85: A TIN can only be issued by the FIRS and not the CAC. the business registration number issued by the CAC is different from the TIN. You can walk into the FIRS office closer to the registered address for the generation of your TIN. However this should be done not later than 6 months from incorporation or commencement of business which ever is earlier. You will then be required to file monthly VAT returns even without any trading. Failure to do so would lead to the imposition of penalties and interest thereon. For a TCC, its issuance is free if all conditions are satisfied. For a company yet to commence business, one of the conditions is the payment of a pre-operational levy of 25K for the first year and 20k in subsequent years.

Please note that the above payment only applies to registered companies. Registered business names (individuals, partnerships) do not need to obtain TCC from the FIRS but the state board of internal revenue where they are located. For more information you can contact me on topdogs85@yahoo.com

Thanks for the info. Good one.

Tried sending you a mail via "topdogs85@yahoo.com", but returned undelivered.

Please, provide a valid email. Need to have a chat with you.

Business / Re: Trademark Registration in Nigeria by LOUDmedia(m): 12:15am On Apr 07, 2013
A TradeMark is a sign, name, mark, symbol, design or a combination of these used to identify a product or service
from that of another. A trademark is owned by the proprietor who registered it and cannot be used by any other persons or institution. This can legally protect your trademark from use by a competitor. TradeMarks may include a name, logo, slogan, domain name, shape, colour or sound.

Requirements for Registration of a TradeMark
1. The regular applicant's details
2. The Trademark information and Goods/Services covered by such trademark
3. Any supporting document where necessary
4. A Power of Attorney granting the agent to act on your behalf.

The duration of registering a TradeMark could take up to 3 to 4 months. This is inclusive of the initial search which could last 3 to 4 weeks, and a 2 months waiting to allow for opposition when the application for TM is published in the TradeMark Journal.

LOUDmedia:

I just sent an email to GTBank to confirm this. Once they respond to the mail, I will let you know about the outcome.

GTB just responded as follows (the email reads in part):
Dear Esteemed Customer,
Thank you for your patronage.
You do not have to get any clarification from EFCC before you can have an account with us.
Business / Re: Company Registration: Questions People Ask & Answers! by LOUDmedia(m): 3:36pm On Apr 01, 2013
arbitrage:

Yeah, I signed a GTBank reference form for a colleague yesterday in which he showed me the things they wrote that he must get. Apart from those requirements you mentioned, that other item was listed as part of the requirements and the writing was not clear to me. It looked like scumi but it was to be obtained from EFCC. So he was asking me where EFCC office is located in the Island.

I just sent an email to GTBank to confirm this. Once they respond to the mail, I will let you know about the outcome.

goryorhal: Thanks for your enlightment.,..i will like to ask some questions..i intend opening a personal buziness for the sales of wrist watch,perfumes..how can i go about the registering?
How much will i be charged and what are the steps and requirements?
Thanks

I guess you are thinking about registering a biz name (Sole Proprietorship)?
There are two options opened to you:
1. Go to the nearest CAC office in your state. Pick up name availability search form. Once your preferrred name is approved, complete the process and your certificate will be ready in days. The Customer Service department at the CAC will give you directions on how to go about it.
2. Get an accredited professional to do the job for you. Only accredited agents CAN register a company on behalf of clients at the CAC, otherwise you'll be asked to appear in person at the CAC to complete your registration.

We help individuals and corporate clients to register new companies at the CAC. We have logistics in place to serve you anywhere in Nigeria. Check my profile or signature for website address to see our current pricing. (Can't post links here cos of the antispam bot).

arbitrage: Is it true that your registered company cannot have a corporate bank account with banks (e.g GTbank) without collecting another document/registration called scum from EFCC?

I don't know what you meant by "scum", but that's not true. Apart from the regular Know Your Customer (KYC) documents and info the banks do requests from their customers, banks will also request your Tax Identification Number (TIN) and TIN is issued at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

I have never heard of getting some approval at the EFCC before you can open a biz account.
Business To Business / Re: What Is The Current Price Of Business Name Registration At Cac? by LOUDmedia(m): 9:46pm On Mar 31, 2013
I am sure you must have put in for this registration since last year?! If not, I can only wonder why you are just being told that company registration fees has more than doubled - because the fees had been increased with effect from January 1, 2013.

My question is: Who called you back - The CAC or an agent? When did you commence the registration and when were you called back?

kaysy: I have been on Nairaland since 2008, then i was very frequent in the romance section, subsequently i moved to education where my line of business is, but unfortunately i met a dreaded moderator who always made life unbearable for me there. i had no idea what a facebook page or a blog was, but this particular moderator pushed me to the wall (even when there was no trace of fraud at me) to an extent that i had to make very serious search about how to have my own forum or something closed to a website. I had no teacher, nobody to turn to as per helping me out, all i know and have today is by the grace of God and a product of Nairaland Moderator's attack. You can see my sites below in my signature, that's the only place to post such cos u get banned when u post them in your comments or they may edit your comment for u and remove the link u supplied.

I just like Seun's conscience cos i know he's doesn't even know how horrible his Mods are
A moderator has actually chased me into a more better and self controlled online office.

I have limited our company registration website address to my NL profile and signature because I can't just post links below my comments or risks being banned. I also avoid the use of certain words in my post (even if there are no links) or risks being banned too!!!

Hello Nairaland people. Just a quick question. URGENT!

I asked someone to register company for me in Abuja. and He asking me for photo Id's for all the directors. Is this required by CAC?

and what are the processes at present?

Thank you for your contributions

Your company registration agent is right on course! To register a company now, you'll need to provide a photocopy of Identification for all the subscribers and directors in the formation process. That's the new law. It started 1st January this year. You can't register a limited company without it.

We offer registration services too. Please, check our website details in my profile. Can't post links here cos of the anti-spam bot.

You all will agree with me that half of the registered users on NL have been inactive a long time as the supposed users had to create multiple accounts when their initial accounts where banned for one reason or the other. Even when you post a comment without links, you get banned!!! undecided

Business / The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) Ban "Touts" by LOUDmedia(m): 11:11pm On Mar 27, 2013
In a bid to sanitize operations and patronage at the Corporate Affairs Commission's offices nationwide, the nation's registrar of companies and allied matters has enforced strict compliance of the law that forbids unaccredited persons to engage in registration services on behalf of clients. This has long taken effect from March 1, 2013 as indicated on a notice conspiciously pasted at the agency's entrance.

In line with the above, only accredited persons and firms; directors/subscribers of a proposed company, and proprietors of a proposed business name can file registration at the CAC.

A visit to the Lagos office of the Federal Government agency to purchase 3 set of company registration forms for our clients today confirms the strict compliance of this policy as the ever-busy office saw only a number of persons engaging in business activities.
Business To Business / Re: 7 Reasons Nigerian Entrepreneurs Register an Overseas Company by LOUDmedia(m): 8:10am On Mar 26, 2013
7. MIGRATION. Entrepreneurs considering a migration or move to an overseas country may incorporate a company in the destination country pending the time of their travel.

The United Kingdom, for instance, grants an Entrepreneur Visa to persons outside the European Union to gain entry to the UK for business reasons.

The initial visa will give you 3 years in the UK; and if during that 3 years you can show that you met certain criteria, you can then apply for a further 2 years extension visa. Following the 5 years, you'll have the option of applying for permanent residency in the UK.

5. COMPETITION. The fact that competing businesses or brands are entering the overseas market and are doing well motivates enterpreneurs in similar businesses to follow suit.

6. INTERNATIONAL PAYMENT. There are quite a number of international banking options available to companies registered in overseas jurisdictions - whether you are currently established in the overseas country or operating the overseas company from Nigeria. Having a corporate checking account abroad makes international payment much more easier by direct deposits, cheques or international wire transfers.
Business To Business / Re: 7 Reasons Nigerian Entrepreneurs Register an Overseas Company by LOUDmedia(m): 7:45pm On Mar 25, 2013
4. CORPORATE IMAGE. In order to boost their corporate image in the eyes of customers, suppliers, investors and businesses, some enterpreneurs just register an overseas subsidiary of their Nigerian company. This gives their target audience an impression that they are a company with international networks. In situations like this, the "international entrepreneur" need not set up a brick-and-mortar office abroad, he/she only pays for a virtual registered office in such country plus a mailing and telephone forwarding service.
Business To Business / Re: 7 Reasons Nigerian Entrepreneurs Register an Overseas Company by LOUDmedia(m): 7:44pm On Mar 25, 2013
3. PROXIMITY TO INTERNATIONAL CLIENTS/CUSTOMERS. Truth be told, the Internet has done enough to bring businesses closer to buyers. However, for some reasons, several business transactions may still warrant a traditional business presence in the city or country of operation. An overseas office of a local company need not be that big, and may be a home business address, a paid virtual office, or a small/liason office just for the sake of getting customer feedback and linking back to the Nigerian office.
