Politics / Why More Nigerians Died Watching 2023 AFCON Than In All History - Professor by LoveLeadsLand(m): 5:05pm On Feb 11
Why More Nigerians Have Died Watching 2023 AFCON Than Those Who Have Died Watching The Tournament In All Of Its History - Professor

Desmond Nweke, a Nigerian professor at Pontifical Urban University, Rome, Italy says he knows why many Nigerians have died watching AFCON tournament this year. See what he has to say in a Facebook thread:

Part 1
I have a twinkling idea about this. So, kindly listen and tell me what you think about it. Feel free to tell me how right or wrong I may be.

To start with, I think I have read it for at least three times about different Nigerians who died watching this year's #AFCON tourney. One of them was a young youth corper. Another was a Nigerian businessman based in a West African country.

Hopefully, I will get them and share as comments below👇. YOU can equally help.

But this is to share one of the discoveries I'm making about Nigerians that are the reasons why Nigerians are suffering so much. It is deeply connected to this.

The government is a big problem here. But the government is not the main problem. The main problem is the people.

BITTER TRUTH: NIGERIANS ARE ACTUALLY PREDOMINANTLY LAZY

It’s one reason ideas don't thrive in the country. It’s because a predominant portion of the population is too lazy to get down and put in the work needed to acquire and digest knowledge.

It’s also why the knowledge industry is not thriving in Nigeria and in the rest of Africa. Mind you, I'm talking about the knowledge industry (where Coursera and Thinkific belong), not the certification industry (where our conventional education system belongs).

It is a typical case of “my people perish for a lack of knowledge” as an ancient author would say.

I have too many things to say about this. And I just want to say them all out at once. But let me go back and explain what all this has to do with too many Nigerians dying watching the AFCON tournament of this year… lest we trail off too much.

PART 2

WHAT ALL THIS HAVE TO DO WITH NIGERIA’S 2024 HIGH #AFCON DEATH RATE

It still beats my imagination that more Nigerians were likely to protest directly against a Goodluck Jonathan than against a Muhammadu Buhari or a Bola Tinubu. I will still share my findings on that in due course. It's really revealing about the kind of people that populate Nigeria overwhelmingly.

Here's an inkling though: Psychologically, bullies are more likely to attack the weak than to attack the oppressive overlord. That's the situation with Nigerians.

For an illustration, look at the number that came out to shout in the face of President Goodluck Jonathan and carried a coffin depicting his death. But the same Nigerians cleverly cowered under Buhari and Tinubu. And even if they had to protest, it mustn't be seen to be against the head itself but against a branch of the government (such as the police as it happened during #EndSARS).

But there is a level things get to and things happen by themselves. I found that the increased death rate of Nigerians watching the AFCON tournament is a manifestation of a protest happening under the hood.

Many Nigerians are hungry, so hungry they are unable to fight back at their real enemies. They have no one on whom to vent their frustration since they are afraid of the overlords. They sometimes try to vent it on their fellow citizens. But being equally hungry and therefore angry, those fellow citizens will often fight back.

Being a coward, which is typical of all bullies, the Nigerian goes back to his shell. Then, he looks for the easy way out which must be entertainment, the modern opium of the masses.

Hope you know what ‘opium’ is. It is what you consume to forget your problem temporarily. So, the Nigerian turns to entertainment to cover his hunger. He quarrels over football and the musicians and expresses his readiness to die for their sake. It's why out of the 20 most followed Nigerian Twitter accounts, 13 belong to entertainers, 3 to politicians, and only 4 to media platforms going by a StatiSense September 2023 publication…

Not that entertainment is not good. But, for a nation passing through what Nigeria is passing through, the deafeningly overwhelming interest of the citizens in entertainment rather than in the actual issues that build the Nation and therefore their destiny, is a clear manifestation of a deeply dysfunctional society. Of course a dysfunctional society is a manifestation of the dysfunctional mindsets of its population.

WHAT I MEAN BY ‘HUNGER’: SHOWING HOW IT AFFECTS NIGERIANS ACROSS BOARDS

Hunger here is not all about bare food, even when that is still a concern in Nigeria (which is a huge shame). ‘Hunger’ also includes businesses that are failing and other indices of micro and macroeconomics that are going down. So, don't ask me about the supposed ‘big man’ that died in a West African country.

‘Hunger’ also includes when there are too many people opening their mouths to you to feed them. Many Nigerians in the diaspora have been going through a lot, trying to pay bills and still have something left to send to their families and friends back home, many of whom have been impoverished mainly by a continuous succession of government high-handedness brought to a head by the current administration.

In a soon-to-be-published article, I'm going to share the screenshot of a conversation that took place on a platform for Nigerians in the UK recently. That illustration has a way of deepening the explanation of this.

Plus, this is getting too long for a Facebook comment. So, let me stop here for now. As I said, I will continue to comment further updates below. Then, in between, I’d like to know if I made sense or not or how much.

Part 3

AT LEAST FIVE NON-COMBATANT NIGERIANS LOST TO #AFCON2024 WAR SO FAR

This is from The Leadership Newspaper. According to this, as many as 5 Nigerians died watching #AFCON2024. Who says this huge data is not enough to say something real!?!

The deceased include:

A serving member of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), identified as Samuel, who slumped and died at a viewing centre in Adamawa;

A former member of the House of Representatives, who represented Ika federal constituency of Delta State, Dr Cairo Ojougboh, who died while watching the game;

A deputy bursar of Kwara State University (KWASU), Alhaji Ayuba Abdullahi who gave up his ghost watching the high-tension encounter.

A sales representative in Ogun State, Mikail Osundiji, was also reported to have died during the tension-soaked match.

Unconfirmed reports also revealed that Anambra-born billionaire, Chief Osondu Nwoye, who lives in Ivory Coast, allegedly died while watching Wednesday‘s AFCON semifinal match between his country and South Africa.

It means further increase in the prices of things across boards. Tougher times ahead but, for the sake of our sanity, let's remember...

1. Tough times never lasts but tough people do.

2. Every problem is an opportunity if only you can take a second look.

3. Elections have consequences. So, let's use this opportunity to learn our hands-on bitter lessons.

Sports / Re: 'A Renewed Super Eagles With One Mandate': NFF Hails Tinubu by LoveLeadsLand(m): 4:59pm On Feb 03
grin

The NFF man quotes President Tinubu as saying,

‘Boys go there, believe in me.

‘You don’t have any problem and whatever issues you are facing, just believe in me. Go and do the job and you’ll see the result.’

Then he said,

That’s exactly what he told them, and you can see them doing the job.

“By the grace of God, I know he is going to reward them handsomely, which has never happened before in the history of Nigeria.

President Tinubu asked them to believe in him but the NFF man is telling them to believe in the grace of God. He even asked us to pray to God for them😂

I'm afraid that this praise-singing might constitute a jinx and deny us further victory. If you understand spiritual things, you'll agree with me here.

Lol. From Kano to Oyo to Enugu to Ákwå Ibom, Nigerians are the same religious but ungodly people. This is a graphic real proof of this. Trying to show that your tribe or religion is better than everyone else's is a lie from hell. Nigeria can become good, better, and best if only we can listen to our respective prophets (Jesus Christ and Navi Muhammad) and live by their precepts of love, fairness, truthfulness, etc. Otherwise, we're all doomed both in this world and in the next.

It's for people like you. When someone says the truth about the President, you leave what he said and begin to attack him clearly because Tinubu is from your side of the country.

No no no. Nigerians are always the greatest casualties of electoral manipulations. No matter what, Obi and Edeoga can never get to the point of saying "e bi n pa wa oh" or begging on social media.

In any case, Obidients should urge Obi to come out clear on some of the allegations being leveled against him. Like this argument going on on Twitter...

Everyone knows that Peter Obi is among the best hands to handle this country. Indeed, I see him becoming Nigeria's President one day. And that's why we should let him be thoroughly scrutinized ahead of 2027.

Heyaa..

The craziest thing about all these things, is that the so-called Labour Party are still entered recent elections without doing anything to prevent or overcome or be above the so-called “Electoral Fraud”, and yet they are still going to enter into more future elections without doing anything different.

They are there busily harvesting people's money for nomination forms, and leaving them out there all alone in the cold and wilderness.

Their crazy outing in the recent Imo State Election was the Father of all Planlessness ever recorded anywhere.!!
So tell us what they should do differently. You can see that they are pursuing electoral reforms.

Why? You kill a 19 year old just for acting erratically? As law enforcement agents, couldn't you have bound him? If it is your own citizen now you will take him to a psychiatrist. #Justice4AfolabiStephen.

This one probably japaed to escape police brutality and insecurity in Nigeria. Staying back to make the best out of Nigeria may well be the best option we have.

Nigeria has always been blessed with great talents but they are wasted due to mismanagement. I read recently that even Yahoo Yahoo and Japa Syndromes can be a source of economic advantage for Nigeria IF WELL MANAGED because these are talented youths. But, our government is only seeing it from a negative angle. We need wise leaders.

Someone like this would be dangerous to fight with...

Fubara stated that his administration would not be enmeshed in any dirty political war that would hinder the promising prospects of development in the state.

One day, a hawk flew whoooooooooo and carried a duckling and flew off. But the duckling's mother was calm.

After some times, the hawk said to himself, "this woman did not fight me when I carried her kid. She must have something really dangerous up her sleeves."

So the hawk brought back the duckling. Still hungry, he asked himself, "what next should I do?"

From the three branch where he perched, the hawk saw a hen rummaging on a refuse dump with her chicks. The hawk instantly flew and carried one of the chicks. The chick's mother flew up and fought against the hawk all to no avail.

As the hawk glided triumphantly back to its tree branch stead, he muttered to himself, "I can eat this with zero consequences seeing that she's all noise and no power".

The deepest seas are the calmest. The little stream makes all the noise. If Wike is wise, he should leave Fubara alone. That's the lesson in my story.

Let's do more of:
1. Achievements
2. Mutual tolerance
than always dwelling on tribal chauvinism. This can only create disaffection, drain our energies, and even cause war in the long run, thereby drawing back the hand of progress.

Even if the least populated tribe can throw up the biggest achievements in Nigeria, they will be more important than the most populated tribes without achievements.
